When I started to look for an engagement ring for my now wife I went to half a dozen jewelry stores from Weatherford to OKC to Tulsa, just because I was on the road at the time. I stopped in at Jay's Jewelry and they were quick to educate me of the process and their recommendations considering that I had family diamond rings that I wanted to use the diamonds in the making of a new ring. They helped me design a completely custom ring using the diamonds that I had, in addition to some that they sold me. I could not have been more pleased with the people or the process. My daughters 2 and they refused to pierce her ears bc she wouldn't let the lady look while i was doing paper work. so she told me she won't force a child to pierce their ears or, her words, "if I pierce one and then she fights me on the other I will only pierce the one." A kid isn't going to sit still for that anyways. They wouldn't even work with us or let us hold her hands down bc "it's traumatizing" meanwhile we HAVE to hold our children down for vaccinations. I have lived in Chickasha for 7 years and have never been outright appalled and DISGUSTED by a business so much that I feel like warning you and sharing my experience that spurred this. Saturday I took my ring into jays jewelers to have the bands on each side removed. This way I could choose to wear the bands without the main ring if I wanted. I was warned that if I removed the bands the main ring would have more wear on it, but I was not bothered by that chance. I had the ring initially without bands. I was the only one in the shop after a few people had been helped and left (take note 1). The man behind the counter is using his magnifying glasses to inspect my ring. He points out that there's some discoloration on a band (take note 2). I shortly explained I've used another jeweler in town to make and attach my bands. Throughout the somewhat 5 minutes of him looking at my ring, me talking about it, me holding it and explaining, him holding it and looking again...that was the only remark he had (take note 3). He gives me a slip, tells me it will have to be cleaned and then they can start, it could be a week or two. Come Tuesday. I get a call. They have cleaned my ring and are now noticing it has been drastically cut on the bottom prongs from the jeweler (the one I went to previously for my bands) when setting the bands. So much that the ring has no support and wouldn't likely do well without the bands and something about it looking "shattered" but I don't remember that part because they also tell me it looks BENT. They want me to come look at it. I immediately did not have a good feeling about this. We come in and wait for the ring. Almost immediately they say "oh you got the call" "oh you're the one we had to call". And the male chimes in to say that I might want to get a new ring. I am not amused at this point. The ring is brought out and they show me the GASH on my bottom prongs. It looks like someone took a nail file to it to emphasize a major cut, with obvious metal scrape marks left behind. The head of my ring is also drastically BENT. So much that it was noticeable right away and absolutely NOT how I knew my ring looked before I left it with them. I literally lost it as civilly as I could. I said it's funny how on Saturday I dropped it off and it didn't look like this and now conveniently this has happened? I asked how they didn't notice it bent this much when they were staring at it for 5 minutes on Saturday. The guy was quick to say there were a lot of people in the shop. Okay refer to take note #1. So then I ask how he had time to notice the discoloration, point it out, hold the ring and talk about it and not see it drastically bent? take note #2. He was quick to say he only looked at it for a few seconds. HA. Up until this point I had let him talk his whole game. But when I continued to ask specific questions he would cut me off and continue to reiterate the same lie they wanted me to believe. I finally stopped him to say "I let you finish without cutting you off, now are you gonna allow me to talk without being cut off?" Then I start to explain how I watched him with his magnifying glasses sit and stare at it as we discussed the ring and the discoloration and he wants me to believe either of us would not notice how BENT it was, like it is now? take note #3. He couldn't back track anymore so a lady worker stepped in to remind me of their 75 year reputation and why would they do such a thing? I ask how reputation has anything to do with how my ring has been handled here? She said "you must not be from Chickasha". We obviously haven't bought their lie and called them out on the downright destruction of my ring. They try to show us one picture they took from the top view of the ring and say, "look see how this is angled down. It was bent all along". Why no side view pic then? Wouldn't that prove so much more. They think this sad excuse of a picture is going to defend their statements. HA! But you're right. I must not be from Chickasha because I refuse to be treated this way and lied to as well as having my property destroyed. I guess not being from Chickasha gives me the liberty to warn all of you of the scam you're walking into if you take a chance on this business. You pose a major risk of your jewelry being tampered with if you don't have all your jewelry from them or not a major known member/family of the community. So please take pictures of all sides of your ring before giving it to any one. All I have is the sheer fact that when I dropped my ring off it didn't have a gash in the prongs or bent at all and now it does. This guy was somehow allowed into the oklahoma jewelers association hall of fame. But the only place he really earned is in the Hall of Shame. I went with some scrap jewelry to get an estimate on value. It wasn't much but just trying to get a rough estimate. The initial gentleman that I dealt with was polite. He assured me that it wouldn't be long & that other gentleman would be coming out with my jewelry. The other Guy, I wouldn't call him a Gentleman by any means he was rude & arrogant. It was almost like I was an Inconvenience. He stated what he could do & when ask about my stones the question was avoided. He then proceeded to tell me that not all of it was Gold some was Silver, (which I knew but they failed to listen to me when I tried to tell them when I first entered the establishment.) All in all I was told that they could only offer me said price because of what his company could afford at that time. My Question is- Isn't their a particular going rate at time for said Gold, Jewelry, Diamonds- ETC. & who in their right mind just doesn't take in to consideration the Diamonds in said jewelry. Do people really just let their Diamonds go for free with scrap jewelry if they aren't interested in purchasing them... read more
