You pick a table to sit, place your order at the counter, seat yourself, and the food will arrive one item at a time. They also have snacks (Jay Bharat label) and sweets. We usually get couple of Curries, Paratha's, Poori's, Lassi, etc. Pros: Very affordable. (+1) Good portions. Value for the price (+1) Paneer with Paratha is a good deal. No matter how many times we frequent Jay Bharat, this has always been a staple order of mine. (+1) Not closed in the afternoon like the other restaurants in Little India. Cons: Limited seating. This place is actually all vegetarian. Super delicious! We got there at opening and got their khadvi (weekends only), vegetable dosa, and samosa platter. The khadvi was so good! It was my first time having this and it is a bit sour and soft. I loved it paired with mint chutney. The vegetable dosa was amazing as well. Perfectly golden pancake cut into 5 pieces with a side of orange sauce and another white thing..it was slightly sweet. Unfortunately I'm not that familiar with what it was and they were pretty busy so I didn't ask. It was good though and a bit spicy. The samosas were good also. Pretty standard. The platter included a "pizza" samosa which was spinach and cheese. Came with tamarind and mint chutney. The service was good. They smiled and were nice. You do need to order and pay at the front counter though. Tip apparently is optional. The waiter swiped my card and there was no section to leave tip. Today @ lunch time, we celebrated a life of my late sister in law in a company of 24 diners. The guju / South Indian-centric vegetarian affair was excellent with a variety that took me back to my college days! The place has a look of a freshness with comfortable upholstery, lighting and display counter w mouth watering delicacies and sweets. The service was of walk up ordering and dishes brought to one's table by the servers. My Gujarati thali was sumptuous and ea item in stainless steel sectional plate was a visual delight. There was a bit of a confusion as to who ordered what v what was brought to our tables which was understandable given the size of our party. After a satisfied meal, I only needed a siesta which I had. A repeat visit in not too distant future date will be a distinct possibility. read more

I haven't been to Jay Bharat since 2020 when, like most, I survived on takeout. At that time, everything was cooked to perfection, almost homemade. I recently took a few friends to try Gujarati food for the first time. I was excited for them to try a few of my favorites; however, I was disappointed with the quality of the food and the portion size. It wasn't by design but pure coincide that we found ourselves in Artesia on two consecutive weekends. And I'm enjoying trying out the (shock!) vegetarian fare. Who am I? I guess if I had to do vegetarian, Indian vegetarian is the way to go. Just as the last week, I had the masala dosa which probably was an unusual pick as Jai Bharath is a Gujarati establishment and specializes in Gujarati dishes, especially thalis. I wasn't feeling Gujarati though so stuck with the Dosa. I liked elements of it. I liked the tomatoes mixed in with the potato filling. It was also more spiced than Bhima's version. Surprisingly, the sambhar, a South Indian dish, was better here. The coconut chutney passed but had a watery consistency. The onion tomato chutney was wrong on so many levels. If they could bring the Bhimas' chutneys, I'd be very happy but alas, that cannot be. We also had the bhel puri which was alright. Nothing to rave about. I must say the star of the show was the delightful mohanthal which came with my husband's thali order. It was my first time trying this sweet and I would describe it like a mysorepak but not as sweet. I'd go back just for that. The service was okay. They did make it very clear that they were shutting down by staring us down. To be fair, we did come in 30 mins before they closed but maybe less staring and glaring next time? I have been here a couple of times now over the last 20 years. The place hasn't changed much. Has the feel of a roadside Indian restaurant. The food is good, there aren't many other places in Artesia that serve decent Gujarati food. However, the customer service is subpar. They haven't done anything to remodel the place in the 20 years I've been coming here, so it looks older and older every time. Just doesn't how to feel that the rest of the area does, as it is trying to become more vibrant. We got to thalies (khathyavadi and regular) last week, both were fine, nothing exciting nothing terrible. The pav bhaji was absolutely distasteful, how we. Horrible attitude from a guy who could barely speak English. People like this seem to be unaware that virus rates are rising daily, thanks to our wonderful government and its insistence on "opening the country up." They're going to be opening it up to a bunch of dead people. I have been going to Jay Bharat for years because I'm vegetarian, but following years of lousy customer service (they act like I'm an extra terrestrial because I'm not from Gudjurat), I've had it. I love coming to Jay Bharat. The only place I can find Undhiyu anytime!!! I usually get the Gujarati Thali. Their undhiyu I found to be a bit raw n undercooked, but, it still tasted great! Their food is always fresh. Their dosa n sambhar is simply amazing. I LOVE their khandvi!! We have bought their packaged snacks as well which also tasted great. The place is like a cafe. Nothing fancy, but very clean n nice. The young gentlemen at the front are really nice. I had asked for substitution of kadhi instead of daal in my Thali n they didn't give me any issues. Not sure about the negative reviews on the owner or the son..they were really nice to me n my husband. And the vadas they use for the pav vadas are also strange.. not authentic at all. And the manager kaka needs to find a smile to wear to work. While I really love the sweets at this place, the service given by the staff leaves a sour taste in my mouth. The guy at the counter is always very rude and never bothers to even greet you. We stopped by to grab a few sweets and it was almost time to close for them. But we saw a couple people inside and figured they are still open. The guy at the counter very rudely stated that we are closing, without even inquiring what we wanted. We stated we had to buy sweets and he said yeah, we can do that. I walked right out of the store. If he is not bothered about making a sale, then I can bloody well take my business elsewhere. There is no shortage of sweet stores in the area. This is my go-to restaurant for vegetarian Indian cuisine. The food is almost as good as what I experienced in India, and the place is extremely clean. There are a wide variety of dishes from various regions of India, so it is fun to experiment. My favorites are the paneer dosa, and the chole batura. The owners previously had a restaurant down the street, but they had to close it due to a rent increase. Consequently, this place gets very crowded, especially on the weekends. I have enjoyed a fairly quiet lunch around 2 PM during the week. Be sure and sample some of their delicious cookies. You can buy one, or a whole box, since they sell them by the pound. read more

Wish I could give this place 0 stars but there is no option on here for that. Absolutely horrendous customer service. Staff is super unfriendly and do not even acknowledge your presence. The quality of food was terrible as well. The Pav Bhaji we ordered was one of the worst dishes I have ever had in my life and the Gujarati Thali was very unsavory and mediocre. To top it off the stench from the restroom was noticed EVERYWHERE in the restaurant which made me nauseous and it was disgusting. Hi, I tried Kathwadi thali and it is simply super with all fresh taste, kichidi is good Bajra roti is so soft and delicious. Curries are medium spice and tastes good. Also tried Punjabi thali, it is fine. Kathwadi thali is my favorite. As per reviews, Dahi puri is recommended but I feel it is ok, little more freshness in the curry stuffed is expected. So you are on your way to Disneyland.. how can you make your day at the happiest place on earth even happier? Stuff your face with Indian food beforehand of course! You could either pay a ton to eat at the park or you could stop somewhere that isn't so close to home but has amazing food for super cheap. This is that place. The thali is amazing.. we tried the Gujarati Thali and the Kathiyawadi Thali. DELICIOUS although way too much food for 2 people. We were struggling to finish as much as we could because everything was so tasty. The veggie curries are filled with little nuts and go just right with the puffed up puri. Masala Khichadi, which is their house special rice, was really good! Everything down to the little carrots were spiced just right; everything was so flavorful. I can NOT wait to come back here! If it was down the street from me I'd be here every night! We also took home a box of sweets and they are so so so good. You don't have to be vegetarian to love this place- we aren't! Jay Bharat is another Indian restaurant on the Pioneer strip that specializes in Gujarati food. Its menu is very similar to that of Standard Sweet and Snacks which is just down the road and even the food at both places tastes similar. I've been to Jay Bharat a couple of times but for some reason keep going to Standard Sweet and Snacks more often. The ordering process at Jay Bharat is a little convoluted. You order at the counter at which time you will be asked to sit at a particular table with a request that you do not move to another table after ordering. I've never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to get the food which is surprising as the roti (levelled flatbread made from wheat) or rotla (levelled flatbread made from bajra or millet) is always freshly made. Over a period of time I've tried a bunch of the Gujarati dishes including the Kathiyawadi thali ($11.99) which comes with two Bajra (Millet) rotla, 2 vegetable curries, 1 kathod, Masala khichadi, Kadhi, Jeera chass, Raita, papad, gur, pickle and dessert. For those who do not want the entire thali can get the shak (curry) based dishes each of which come with two vegetable curries of the day, chass (buttermilk), gur (jaggery or concentrated palm sugar) and pickle. You have an option of pairing up the shak with roti ($5.49), puri ($5.49) or rotla ($5.99) as you see fit. Tastewise this is as legit as it can get. The undhiyo (mix vegetable curry) is exactly as you will find it back home. The meal is also typical Gujarati style that includes both sweet (gur) and spicy (pickles) condiments with the meal and chaas is always a great way to end your meal. Overall the meal will get you full without the heavy feeling that you get when eating Punjabi food. Solid Gujarati food at very affordable prices is how I would sum up Jay Bharat. Jay Bharat is a village-style Gujarati diner that is vegetarian friendly. Gujarati cuisine is primarily vegetarian due to influences from religious customs. There is an abundance of Gujarati restaurants in Little India, but what makes Jay Bharat special is their consistency over the past 2 decades. Ordering one of JB's thali is a way to experience a full Gujarati meal. Since I wanted to try other Gujarati restaurants on the Pioneer strip afterwards, I ordered the rotla shak. It's somewhat like a partial thali minus rice, with 2 choices of shak, rotla (millet bread), gur, garlic chutney, and buttermilk. Shak is a term used for Gujarati vegetarian curries. You can pick from a list of 5 seasonal shaks. Undhiyu is usually on the shak lineup in the winter and spring. It's a very traditional mixed vegetable stew from south Gujarat that is sweet, salty, spicy, and chewy. It contains an exotic mixture of potato cubes, beans, green plantain, green peas, and eggplant, all cooked in coconut and spices. What impressed me most about the gravy was the balance between spicy and subtle sweetness. Also notable for the undhiyu is the varying texture of the vegetables - crunchy green peas like nuts in the same bite as softened vegetables. It's an acquired taste and I'm not sure if everyone will enjoy it. Another shak that I recommend is the red chori. This is the same azuki beans used in Japanese desserts, but Indians cook it with spices in a curry. Red chori is wholesome, high in protein, and its nutty flavor is apparent when served in a light tomato curry. Perfect to complement with rotli or similar bread. Out of all the Gujarati restaurants I've tried in Little India, Jay Bharat is one of my favorites. I am a fan of their casual setting and the fact that tips are optional. Service was reasonable for a diner. Servers were attentive but did not seem to know the menu very welI, since I was served buttermilk and papad which are really only included in thalis. read more

As a first timer, the food was interesting and very tasty. I loved how they gave you a variety of food. The only thing that I didnt like was how they got irritated when I asked questions of what I was orsering...I mean yeah get mad if I ask 100 questions...but not on the 2nd question...the cashier was nice enough to explain to me the Indian candies. This place is great for vegetarians! I really love their selection of appetizers here. The prices are extremely inexpensive so you can order multiple dishes without breaking the bank. I always get the shev puri which is really good with their tamarind chutney. Their plain dosa is pretty foolproof choice too as well as their idli. I've also sampled quite a few of their pedas and barfis from the sweets bar and they are great. Great pistachio barfi if you're looking for sweets on the go. The service is also very fast so you can expect to get your food within 5-10 minutes. The restaurant's appearance is pretty modern compared to most Indian eateries in Artesia. No tacky tapestries or anything like that...great choice for casual Indian dining. The only downside is that they stop taking orders at 8:00 which seems pretty early to me but the entire street closes down at the same time so I guess it's justifiable. read more

Can't believe that off late we have been eating here at least once a week Lovely little Vegetarian Indian restaurant that tends to get a bit busy during weekend lunchtime! We totally love the Gujarati & Punjabi Thali that come with a wonderful spread including roti (heavy on ghee!), pulao, dal, 3 curries, appetizer, dessert, chas, raita & pappad!. If you like rotla & don't crave for srikhand, then the Kathiawadi Thali is also an interesting try. The green chutney and raita are absolutely delicious. I would also recommend their vada pav, khandvi, undhiyo & dahi puri. The corn chevda that is occasionaly served in the Guj thali is an interesting item that we have not found anywhere else. Its more like mashed sweet corn n dal which is made mouth watering with some green chilly spice. I would not give 5 stars because we have also had a couple of items which were just mediocre like pani puri & pav bhaji & this place is also not suitable for a group of more than 4 or 6 ppl.
