Not great. Burgers are tiny, and the hotdogs are gross and tasted boiled. No good flavor besides sauces?

Oh man how can I start? Jay bees has to be one of the best hidden gems in the whole state of NC. From the friendly staff to the amazing fried pickles, Jay bees is where it's at! Nothing like biting into a burger and having to lick slaw and chili from your wrist that fell out the burger. So sloppy, so filling, so delicious!!! I had heard of Jay Bees famous hot dogs and they are definitive solid and burgers and fries are good. A little pricey for an old school place but definitely within range. The chill was not the best I have ever had. I would stop here if it was on the way to where I was going but I wouldn't go out of my way like I did on this occasion. I only have tried the hot dogs... so this review is based solely on my experience with them. I ordered one with chili, and one with chili and cheese. I'm kind of a purist, and I wanted to be able to taste the hot dog and the chili without other ingredients interfering. The hot dog is ok. Nothing special, and I've had better. The chili was a let down, I've had way better. Overall, I was actually pretty disappointed with the experience. Order came out pretty fast, no problems with service, but it just wasn't anything special. My advice is don't come here for the dogs... read more

The service is great. You will have to wait some time to get your food if the restaurant is full. But, luckily I came here early. I went for the first time recently and I loved everything I got! They corn dogs are SO GOOD! It's what every corn dog should taste like. The kraut dog was tasty, and the hash browns too. This place has cheap eats, but they do not care at all about gluten free. They told us if you can't eat it, go somewhere else, which is really poor service. So my sister ate a hot dog and I ate her fries. I don't know if we will ever be back. we just moved here and wanted to give local places our business, and having a gf bun in the freezer, take it out and grill it is too hard for you, than maybe we should eat at Groucho's, or Jersy Mikes. read more

Dined in today for lunch, tried the Chicago dog and it was great! Sport peppers were the real deal as was the nuclear green relish. Nice portion of tomato and pickle. I will definitely have it again. I had the cheese tots for a side, they drizzle cheese sauce over which was ok. I had hoped the cheese was inside but that's ok. Everything was served piping hot. The server was a little slow when she was taking my order but I must say that the FOOD was OUTSTANDING. I had a Chicago Dog and a Kraut Dog. My first bite of the Kraut Dog was good and the Kraut was cold (I prefer mine warm but it had a great taste. The Chicago Dog.......... ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. I have been to HUNDREDS of hot dog stands from New York City to San Diego and beyond but this hot dog was nothing short of Amazing. It is served with Onions, Relish, a Dill Pickle, slices of Tomatoes and peppers (if you like them). It is served on a Poppy Seed Bun and to say I wish I would have one of these by my home is an understatement. If and when I go back to the Mocksville/Statesville area.... We are staying in the area and decided to try Jay Bee's and we were not disappointed. The customer service is amazing and there is plenty of seating inside and out. We had the pork rinds, fried pickles, cheese burgers, fries, and Hot dogs. Everything was tasty. It's a ice cream type of fast food place. If your looking for more then I would keep going. After eating here I can see why Jay Bees is so popular. The specials are super cheap. This week was a footlong, fries, and a drink for 5.39. I had mine all the way with slaw, chili, mustard, and onions. I had never had a hotdog this way and really loved it. It is very messy but everything goes together well. The fries are amazing. They were crisp and not greasy. Tea was great and I also had a chocolate malt. I wish the shake had a little more malt in it but it was still good. My only complaint was that we had done the drive thru and since everything was wrapped in paper it was cold when we ate it. Next time we will have to eat inside. read more

Hometown favorite. Swung by JayBee's for the first time in years and grabbed a couple of hot dogs. They are still as great as ever and haven't changed one bit. If it aint broke, don't fix it. They keep it simple and it works. The drive through said that it may take time to fix food because they fix it upon order, but it went the normal speed of any other drive through. This is a tough review because Customer Service was amazing. Customer Service is a dead concept in our country, therefore, when you see it done well, it's compelling. On that front they were a 5 star establishment. Fast and very friendly. The food: simply awful. Here's the problem: if you're gonna state on your front sign that your hot dogs are "world famous" then you have got to deliver upon that promise. The worst experience a person can have is when something is "over-promised and under-delivered." That's Jay Bees as a whole. Hot dog was long but tiny. Lukewarm at best. Fries were much like McDonalds - shoe string type. Perhaps a preference for some but just a fry and nothing memorable or tasty. I also ordered a cheeseburger. It was simply tasteless. A frozen patty that had been short-order grilled to cook. Prices were great. So, in that respect, you do "get what you pay for" I suppose. If you're thinking about driving out there to eat, you'll do so much better somewhere else. Five Guys burger and fries makes these guys look like rank amateurs. Honestly ... I've prepared a far, far better hot dog on my grill at home. Bottom Line: if you say you're the best in world, you'd better deliver. read more

There is a sign that says not fast food so don't expect to go quickly you the drive through....or something along those lines. Yelp was super quick but wasn't to slow either. I really like coming here because they have such a variety...loads of toppings and choices. My favorite items here are the pimento cheeseburger, onion rings and the cherry yum yum. The fries are good.. they are similar to McDonald's fries... The hotdogs are very good but I love chili dogs and that is the only let down here. It is very bitter and taste like chili out of the can. I don't know why they don't make a homemade chili sauce! So I don't come here to get dogs. They use Dole soft serve and have a lot of great ice cream toppings that you can't find anywhere else like blueberry and butterscotch. Best hotdogs around. I've gone out of my way to get these particular hotdogs where I could have picked up a "common" dog anywhere along the route. These dogs satisfy people of all ages. Disappointed...I bumped into this place while working in Statesville. It wasn't quite lunch time so I finished working and researched the place. I got excited with the reviews. I had been craving a hot dog, and I wanted to like what I thought was a local gem. I got the ball park meal including fries with a strawberry shake and the hot apple pie. Hey! I was splurging. The hot dog was the most disappointing. It was average AT BEST. The bun was super soggy and gross. I've NEVER had a bun so soggy so for me, it may sadly be the world's worst hot dog. Since its supposed to be freshly prepared, I just can't understand how the bun would become so soggy so quickly. The fries were crispy and good, and the shake was pretty good. The apple pie tasted artificial, and I couldn't finish it. I don't know if I'll give them another try, but if so, I won't get another hot dog or an apple pie. This visit probably only deserved 2 1/2 stars. read more
