out to salisbury looking for trouble (etchings, actually) and found this instead. yea for this!! not sure how I got turned around leaving downtown and it really doesn't matter except that there I was lost and hungry... after a quick search Yelp resolves half of my issues by pointing me here so here I went. yea Yelp!! a few minutes later while rolling down main street I come across Yostie's beckoning me in with scented promises of hotdogs and pepperoni rolls... Kind of a little nothing of a place in the best possible way: insufficient parking up front (but plenty across the street) simple painted signage on the building, stainless steel counters, and commercial baking racks. perfect!! Menu boards are hung at the register with descriptions and prices and all that stuff but somehow I'm not making any sense when it's most important. I managed to figure out that the two dog lunch special adds chips and a soda for a buck and a half so I went with that... plus a pint of chili... and a sack of cheese rolls. found my soda, found a seat and a few minutes later my lunch found me. butcher paper wrapped dogs were loaded down with a fine-textured beanless chili and onions in typical carolina fashion, oddly enough slaw is not an option here (yea virginia!) unfortunately neither are relish, tomato, dill spear or sport peppers. still, chili dog is a nice change of pace. finished lunch, bussed my table, figured out where I was and got headed to where I needed to be with a sack of cheesey yeast rolls and a pint of chili in tow. and so, fully provisioned, I called it a day.

Their chili dog - with their very thick, spicy chili.

This tiny place, located in Faith, NC ( several miles outside Salisbury ) apparently started out as a bakery, and then added hot dogs, and other items. They make an interesting hot dog - and it is interesting because of the home made chili they put on their hot dogs, and on their spaghetti, as well. They advertise that the chili is made fresh daily using 100% ground beef and spices, nothing else. The chili comes in either mild or spicy, and is among the thickest, meatest chilis I've ever run into. Even the mild chili is pretty spicy for a hot dog chili, and the spicy version really has so heat to it. As I said, this is an interesting chili dog, and would make a nice change of pace, but the chili simply dominates the dog, and it is all you taste, especially with the spicy chili. Dog goes for $1.75. The Pepperoni Roll is a thich roll (slightly larger than their hot dog bun) with 4 or 5 strips of pepperoni encased inside - tasty, but mostly this is about the bread. Sells for $1.50. The Pasta Salad consists of spaghetti, olives, veggies, and a slightly sweet dressing - ok, but the sweetness becomes cloying. The chili on the spaghetti (Cincinatti style) works better, but still will dominated the dish. Interesting dishes from a nice little, family run place, is a beautiful, little town. You could make a much worse road trip.

This place has all the makings of a Great place a good location , Low over head , family owned and operated . But.... here is the thing what is it? A Hot dog Joint? A Bakery ? A restaurant? To me Do not try and sell cheap food to make a buck !!! Ok they have Baked Spaghetti? Is that we we did in College with left over spaghetti put cheese on it and put it in the oven? Hot dogs with their " So called " chili that well do you have a can opener ? Then they have the Cincinnati ( Style) Chili Spaghetti what makes it that way is it because, its on pasta? I had Chili in Ohio in one of the biggest company's in the state( Skyline) and it had so much nutmeg in it I tasted it for days YUK Bakery ...I had their Pepperoni rolls that I thought would be tasty hot dog buns( they make) with nasty cheap Pepperoni inside come on people!! The Best thing I had was the Cheese straws a Southern Classic but, even here they where $15.00 a pound this is a little town? One street light that only comes on when the fire truck comes out of the station. $15 a pound? Do not get me wrong these are good people hard working I just think that they have to much food here that can I say nasty? Sorry Nasty!!! Stick to what you do best and do not charge a arm and a leg for it ! Sort of like a blind man trying to play golf in the dark always trying to hit the ball.. 2 stars because, they CAN do better will they I DOUBT IT.

Our server, I forget her name, was the epitome of hospitality and service. She anticipated our needs (refills, to go containers etc) - chatted about the history or the restaurant and town - providing suggestions not just for dinner but attractions on our way to our destination. She was just so very cool. The food was great - I opted for Greek Spaghetti. Different than I've had before but enjoyed it all the same. It was like the flavor was liquid or broth form, pooled at the bottom of the dish. Another version I had was dry, like Pesto. Anyway - when I figured out all the goodness was at the bottom of the plate - it was all over from there. Mixed it up a little. Toss in a little crushed red peppers for taste. Then inhaled it all until it was all gone. The al dente noodles. Charred chicken. All just right. The service for me made it an excellent experience. Food was good and I enjoyed it enough that if I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely stop in - but not before trying other places first. But if I lived in the area, I'd be a regular.

I ordered a 9oz steak, my mother ordered a 6oz, when the lady who I'm assuming is a food runner brought out our plates I politely asked her if my steak was 9 ounces because it looked about the same size as my mothers 6oz and she replied in an incredibly snarky tone saying, "I bring out whatever you order so what's infront of you is what you ordered" and the she just rudely walked off. I cut into my steak and it was raw, I order medium rare every single time and hardly ever send back food, when I told our waiter (who I feel bad for, he was incredibly nice and he had to run around extra because of everything) he noted that it looked "really bad" that's how raw it was, no biggie I let him take it back to be cooked properly and the same lady brought the steak back to my table and said something else in a rude tone, I didn't catch what she said but I sure did hear how she said it. The steak had not been fixed, they simply heated the specific area I cut into, when I cut it completely in half it looked the exact same as it did when it was first taken back. The waiter (again I cannot stress this enough, he did nothing wrong and was very patient and understanding) ended up getting me a whole new one that I took to go, he brought it to me and had me check that it was cooked right and it was perfectly fine the second time. My issue is with the lady who ran the food out, she was INCREDIBLY rude, I have never written a negative review before and never really found it worth it but this lady was so incredibly unprofessional and someone in management needs to address that and shut that behavior down. She looked to be of a more "mature" age, had grayish/salt and pepper hair, a lot of ear jewelry (mostly in gold) and thick rimmed black glasses in a bit of a Cat eye type style. Have no idea what her name is, hopefully that description is enough.

My grandmother had the marinated chicken with a baked potato and salad. We both ended up sending our meals back to order something else. Her chicken was dry and tough, and my ribeye was the toughest ribeye I have ever eaten. The salads and baked potatoes were very good. We then ordered chicken quesadillas, which were mediocre at best. The service was awful. We could not even tell who our waitress was because after taking our order, we never saw her again. Someone else brought the food. I had to get up and find someone to address the issues with the steak and chicken. No one apologized, except the cashier, who was very kind and polite. The manager was seated in a booth with other waitresses and never bothered to come by or apologize for either the food or the service. This was my third time at Rockwell Diner, and it will be my last, which is unfortunate because I like to support local businesses. The first time, the food was good, but the service was less than stellar. The second time, the food was just okay and the service still was not good. Today was the final straw.

Our server was tired (given it was 8:00PM) but was very helpful and was willing to do whatever to make us happy. I ordered a medium rare ribeye, and I received a medium ribeye. My dad ordered a medium ribeye, and received a medium rare ribeye. I guess they put our steaks on the wrong plate?! Idk, but it's fine. I like creamy horseradish with my steak, and asked for the ingredients to make it and said I would make it myself, but our server made it for me! That was very kind of her! They have 36 different sides that you can choose from. I got a side salad with ranch and fries. Their salad came with shredded lettuce pieces which was odd and kind of hard to eat. The side house salad just comes with grape tomatoes and purple onions on it. The ranch is nothing special. The fries had nothing wrong with them and hit the spot! Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, which is a good thing and should be the number one goal of a restaurant (and they met it). I can't be too mad at Cagney's for my medium steak.

If it wasn't for that sad fact, we would have stopped ordering a long time ago. I think tonight is going to be the last time we give them our business. They left one of the sides off of my order, the rice that came with my dad's meal wasn't cooked properly. And the main portion of his meal didn't seem as though it was prepared properly, he said it didn't taste quite right. These would ordinarily be small issues, but they happen ALL THE TIME. We only order from there every couple of months or so, but in the last couple of years they mess up so often it's ridiculous. The last time we ordered from them, the food was decent, pretty good actually. But that was one time in a string of screw ups. I've worked in several restaurants myself over the years. I know how difficult a Saturday night can be, especially if you're busy. But, it would take maybe 30 seconds, not much longer, to check the boxes/bags of an order to make sure all the parts are there. Cagney's in Granite Quarry better thank their lucky stars that they are at least conveniently located for some of the people in our little town...if it wasn't for that, as far as I'm concerned, they'd have to close down if they screw up everybody else's meals the way they do ours so consistently.
