This is another one of my "treat-yo-self" places. It's old, full of regulars, and you better be prepared to wait in the drive-thru for service because it's always busy. This is the first place I had a Carolina Style hot dog ("all the way") and I don't want to eat it anywhere else. Their hot dogs are split and grilled and Carolina style has mustard, chili, onion and coleslaw. The combo is perfect. Their fries are good too. It's clean and the workers are friendly. I definitely love coming here every so often. (P.S. When influencers do best hot dogs of NC, Jay Bee's is always on the list!)

Best footlong hot dog in the area! Chili has a very distinct flavor, slaw is awesome, and fries are always hot and fresh. Well ran and clean dining room with friendly staff. Cookies are great and the Dole Whip is a great dessert treat especially in the summer.

Carnage from a too wet Chicago dog (that wasn't really a Chicago dog)

I have passed the billboard for Jay Bee's on I-40 many times going to and fro on trips to the mountains. The sign boasts that their hot dogs, at least their footlongs, are famous. I don't see why. They are decent, but not worthy of fame. I ordered three different dogs: All the way: the most disappointing dog of the day. The wiener was average, the slaw was good but wet (creating a soggy mess). The chili was bland, and the entire thing was served to me stone cold. Chicago Dog: pretty good, with a good tasting all-beef wiener, but it, too, was too wet and disintegrated in my hands. As I was eating it, I thought to myself, "This is pretty good, but it seems to be missing something". Upon inspection, I quickly realized that it did not have sport peppers on it. This sin of omission can get you killed in Chicago. And it makes it NOT a Chicago dog. If you want an authentic Chicago dog, I strongly suggest Mike's Chicago dog in Asheboro. Pimento Cheese Dog: best dog of the day, the pimento cheese was mild, but good, and the wiener was grilled and had a nice flavor. I also had some fries, which were above average. The staff was friendly enough. You order at the counter, sit down, then they call your number and you pick it up. Their drink fountain also has the oddly alluring Patio Red Cherry Soda which tastes reminiscent of cherry cough medicine, only better, and smells like Sucrets. Meh.

This place must be a local gem. Wasnt too busy when we arrived around 11am. However by 11:30am it started getting packed. Love the small-time place with awesome prices. Everyone was extremely friendly. I ordered a Number 1. World famous footlong with chili and slaw. Its not a black tie event. However, I VERY much enjoyed it. Light hearted with small prices. My pals all got dessert, which they all looked great!

Short Version - The food is solid (minus the fries) - The staff are very friendly - Jay Bees deserves 3 1/2 stars but Yelp doesn't allow for 1/2 stars - Recommend Long Version Jay Bees is a local place just on the edge of Statesville, right off 64. Well known for their hot dogs but they also sells burgers, shakes and ice cream. They have several hot dogs including a Southern style (chili, slaw, onions, mustard) and a Chicago dog. If you are traveling down highway 64 close to Statesville, and have a hankering for a hot dog and a shake, then I would highly recommend this place. Jay Bees is a local joint and I would rather spend my money with someone local rather than one of the major chains. Regarding the food, the dogs are pretty decent They do use a cheese whiz like spread for the cheese on the dogs but it still tastes good. I read reviews here praising the fries but that was the only part of the meal I did not like. Mine tasted like cheap quality frozen fries. Maybe I caught them on a bad fry night or perhaps they switched to another type of french fries.

I got the large BBQ tray with pulled pork, hushpuppies, and white slaw (because white slaw is obviously the correct choice) plus fried cream corn nuggets after my girlfriend recently turned me onto them. Randy's feels like it's been serving the same loyal customers longer than I've been alive. I actually did a double take when I saw a sign saying they accept personal checks. I'm sorry... what year is it? The pork was good though not life-changing, not something I'm asking Santa for at Christmas, but solid / familiar NC BBQ. The white slaw was damn near perfect: finely chopped, fresh, and just needed a little more sweetness and creaminess for me. The hushpuppies were fried balls of heaven, and the corn nuggets were awesome too. My only real complaint: $22 for lunch. Guys... come on. I understand BBQ takes time and effort, but pulled pork isn't gold. A few ounces of pork and a handful of hushpuppies shouldn't have me checking my credit score afterward. Overall, I liked Randy's... it was an old-school BBQ joint with excellent sides and clearly a loyal following. Would I stop again if I'm in Statesville? Absolutely. Would I drive out of my way for it? Probably not. Would I enjoy paying $22 again? Definitely not.

We found this restaurant the first day and went back each time. I love biscuits and try them everywhere I can and these are delicious! I always get some to take home. 3) The pancakes were delicious and you can ask them to bake the blueberries into them - yum! 4) The Hungry Man's Platter was perfect and filling. 5) The Greek omelet and Chicken Gyro were delicious. 6) And the cakes... so amazing. You see them first, up front in the cooler. We were told they are hand made and we can guarantee they are so good. We took two slices home as the chocolate ones are quite rich so we have one slice to enjoy for several meals. I have not had a better cake, and we'd be willing to drive 50 miles to get this cake if we needed cake for something. 7) The wait staff were all wonderful. Brooke in particular was so enjoyable and helpful. But everyone who served us was really nice. 8) The prices are all quite reasonable. And they have daily specials with even better prices. 9) The only thing to take note of is the menu on Google, or their old website, is not current. The current menu is much more comprehensive (also has Mexican, Greek, and Italian meals). I think I found the current menu, which I've attached. Not sure if this is the full new menu, but most of it is there.

We arrived just in the nick of time before their 2pm closing time during the weekday. My friends were acquainted with the server and the owner. Our server was very friendly and welcomed and thanked me for giving them a try. After we all finished chatting she took our drink order. We were all indecisive about our selection since there were many delicious items to select. They 3 of my friends decided to try something they hadn't tried yet. It was all to me so it was hard to select immediately. But, I finally decided on the Strawberry Grilled Cheese sandwich and side selection was the orzo with spinach. Our orders arrived and we sampled each others sandwiches. I did like the strawberry grilled cheese. I didn't think it would pair well, but I was wrong. I thought the same about the Fig Grilled Sandwich. I think I will have that next time. Or I might try some of the other interesting Grilled Sandwiches. The orzo dish was a refreshing dish and went well with the sandwich. This place is decorated cute and it is spacious inside with booth and table seatings available. My friends told me it is busy on the weekends. Our visit was on a Friday. It could have been very busy earlier but when we were seated there were plenty of tables available.
