I'm always on the lookout for a great bakery and I was really excited to try Jax. I called and placed an order in advance which included everything bagels, a loaf of multi grain bread, crossiants, a berry danish, a Nutella berry danish, a slice of banana bread and chocolate chip cookies. My order was waiting for me when I arrived and everything in the case looked so good that I decided to get a few extra cookies. Everything was delicious and so fresh. My favorites were the Nutella berry danish and the bagels the danish was the perfect combination of sweet and the bagels were so tasty. The multi grain bread felt heavy but when I toasted it, it was so light and fresh. I really enjoyed my experience and I can't wait to go back and try some other things! read more

Picked up curbside today, I had the Tomato Bisque Soup w/bread, even though I was shorted on the bread (which I can overlook as they were slammed) the soup was "OUTSTANDING"!!! It has an excellent flavor that I would highly recommend, I just wish there had been more as it was that good. Also ordered a Sticky Pecan Bun & a Cranberry Orange Scone as well just to try. The sticky bun was very tasty, nice & soft & absolutely covered in pecan halves. The Scone was what I would expect from a typical English style of scone it was crumbly but had a nice flavor. Would be better accompanied with some clotted cream and you definitely require something to drink with it. This is a small place that reminds me of Panera But much better. We were pleasantly surprised on how fresh and delicious their sandwiches were. I was meeting two Yelp Elite friends here today. I got here early, so I went inside to wait. The Jamaican Man and the Hispanic man we're both waiting on me and both were so pleasantly nice!! I ordered a cinnamon brioche and a hot tea with cream for dine in. I wanted to try some of their soup, but no soup on Sunday's. I also bought a loaf of sweet African bread, sliced-to take home. The brioche came out warm with the citrus topping I wanted to try. It was very delicious and took me forever to eat it. I love the lemon water they have available for the customers on the side. Finally, my friends Loan and then Ron showed up. They ordered their meals. Then we all enjoyed listening to great music and comparing notes on what we had. Loan had avocado over bread with bacon and poached eggs on top. They both enjoyed. The place is quaint and small packed with wonderful and love there. I can't wait to come soon. read more

What an awesome time it was to swing by here today! Good weather and spending some time with two of the best Yelpers I know! Our plan and plot to infiltrate JAX Bread came from our newbie, Loan. I've been hoping to try a new shop recently and she came up with the right one! Along with Goldie, it was just having all the fun and chat time like we did at Brass Tacks. JAX Bread is the kind of shop I like. Not trendy, but just come in, order for take out or sit in a smallish seating area. This could be a semi-strike on this outlet because it's not the best for groups. You can mostly do three or four in a group and that would not be successful if the store was busy, as I imagine it gets during the weekdays. Though JAX Bread looks a little aged and rugged in appearance, it still is a clean restaurant from the seating area, to what I could see in the kitchen area, and the restroom. There is a single restroom here but it is one of the cleaner ones I've seen here in local restaurants. But the two best things in my experience here today were being with my friends and enjoying a great sandwich! Now I will say up front that if you go to JAX Bread on Sundays, soup is not served. It is on the rest of the week. My only small disappointment of the day as I was hoping to have some with my sandwich. I truly enjoyed the jerk pork sandwich! It hit me like a hot rock on my first bite because it has some heat to it! But after the third bite, I found it amazingly enjoyable and would be glad to try it again some time. The sandwiches are offered on two different breads - an African sweet bread or ciabatta bread. I chose ciabatta. It worked perfectly with the sandwich. Then there is Goldie and Loan! Two great friends who make great company! Taking time to chat, shoot pics of the restaurant and the food, and even taking a fun video makes for special time well spent. I ordered a bagel with egg, sausage and cheese. It was the absolute worst sausage I've ever had in my entire life. And it cost $10.95. The sausage resembled an ice hockey puck... seriously. It was huge, dry, and had a mild Italian aftertaste. I had to remove the sausage from my sandwich and even then felt the bagel was a bit chewy. read more

Three stars because I feel like this is average. I can pick up the same quality sourdough at a grocery store for cheaper or make a better one by myself but it would take more time. I picked up a sourdough loaf and it tasted burnt and it didn't have the same air bubbles or texture that a good sourdough should have. I usually get my sourdough from community loaves in Murray Hill and I make the trip from Neptune Beach to do it. I decided to pick up a loaf here to try and I was not satisfied. The help staff was super amazing and friendly. If you are coming here for sourdough bread or any other bread I would be wary. Disclaimer: I'm really particular about my bread. I grew up in Europe. I was so excited to try this place. I had read so many good reviews. However, my experience was different. I was the first customer there waiting for them to open. I purchased bagels, a sourdough loaf, and a croissant. When I got home the bagels were cold , the croissant was cold and the loaf was hard and dry . That tells me I did not get freshly baked items . I guess I should've realized something was off when I walked in and there was no smell of fresh baked bread . Very disappointing. Artisan sandwiches made with in-house fresh bread of all kinds. Owner knows how to put some flavor in these pastries and sandwiches. They also offer coffee and drinks of sort. Price is reasonable and won't put a hole in your pocket. Recommend always trying a special I had the Asian Chicken Sandwich with Apple Pie Bread Pudding! Snuck in here for the first time about 15 minutes before closing on a Saturday. Picked up a pan au chocolat and a cinnamon apple danish. The pan au chocolate was great - flaky and buttery with nice chunks of chocolate. The cinnamon apple danish was a little disappointing. It LOOKED beautiful and SMELLED great. But despite visually seeing 4 apple slices, it tasted only of cinnamon and was a little overpriced, IMO. On the same day I went to a different bakery and got an apple danish from there as well. I brought them both home and did a side by side comparison. The Jax Bread danish was twice the price of the other danish. They clearly had different techniques, with the Jax Bread danish being "fancier" with a flakier crumb. But the other danish had a tender flake and a lot of apple flavor. The service was decent considering it was close to closing time and the cafe was very nice. I asked about their coffee as I would like to try breakfast, but the cashier didn't know anything about the kind of coffee they serve (other than it comes from BJ's or Costco), which was a little disappointing in a cafe that looks like this and serves the kind of pastries and bread they serve. I definitely want to go back and try some sandwiches and other breads and pastries, but not sure if I'll be a regular yet. read more

This place has been on mine and my wife's list to try for so long. Well, today it happened and I'm so happy it did. This place is simply adorable. I love the decor and the feel inside. It's so clean and smells amazing as you'd expect. I mean, what is better than bread?! We both ordered the Brie Melt and it was simply delicious. Melted brie cheese, bacon, arugula and this fantastic fruit compote. So many flavors, so many textures all sandwiched between griddled sourdough. This is like the perfect little bakery/sandwich/cafe!!! They are so nice. The food is so fresh and amazing! It really will surprise you. I tried the green egg and Sam and when I first read it I was like hmmm, I tried it on a croissant and it was the best thing ever!!!! Yum!!! We decided to give this place a try for a Sunday lunch. We arrived at noon and the place was busy with a line to order. The dining area is small and looked like it seats about a max of 20 people comfortably inside. They appeared to be short staffed with just a cashier and another worker in the bakery. The cashier was very friendly and apologetic for the wait when we ordered. We ordered the Kids Turkey sandwich with provolone, a Turkey sandwich, a 3 cheese sandwich with Roasted Chicken, A create your own breakfast croissant (egg, bacon, avocado), and a Slow Roasted BBQ Pork sandwich. We opted for all our sandwiches to be prepared with the African Sweet Bread (their signature bread). Everything tasted amazing and you could tell was fresh and made to order. The BBQ Sandwich had a little spice flavor that was unique but evened out with the BBQ sauce. I would get again. Once the rush died down we went back to the counter and ordered a couple of Pain au Chocolat (chocolate croissant pastries) and a Cinnamon Brioche with icing. They we all served warm and very yummy. We also purchased a loaf of African Sweet Bread to take home. You have the option to have it sliced (with thick French Toast Thickness or regular). NOTE: The do not use any preservatives in their breads so if you are not going to use it the day of its best to freeze. The sandwiches and pastries were top notch and not too pricey. We would have easily given a 5 star rating if we didn't have to wait 25 minutes from ordering to get our sandwiches (due to the rush and only having 2 people on hand). read more

Wow! I have been working 1 minute from this place for the past 6 months and had no idea it was there. A co-worker recommended it and I am so glad she did!!! I am thoroughly impressed with my lunch. I ordered the Brie Melt (I am a cheese fanatic) and it was probably the best brie sandwich I've ever had! It was so fresh- the brie was perfectly melted, the bread was soft but toasted perfectly with a crunchy crust, crispy bacon, the fresh made berry compote perfectly complemented the brie, and it was finished off with fresh arugula. Absolutely mouth watering. The lunch sandwiches come with a side of chips as well. The only negative I can think of is it did take longer than I expected to get my sandwich BUT it was totally worth the wait for such a fresh and tasty sandwich. Jax Bread is a small and spotless bakery in a strip on Baymeadows Road. Upon entering, we were greeted with the smell of freshly-baked bread...who'da thought?! We stopped in for a quick lunch and were quite impressed with the experience from start to finish. I ordered the Chicken Bacon Avocado sandwich on ciabatta, forgoing the alternate option of having it on their African sweet bread. I'd like to try it one day but wasn't feeling like anything sweet at the time. I also ordered a single plain croissant to nibble on while the rest of our food was prepared. We sat outside on a pleasant but surprisingly blustery day and the croissant was delivered moments later. Served warm, it was as buttery as the best croissants are, flaky on the outside, with a soft and yielding interior. Quite honestly, this was one of the best croissants I've ever had and after it was gone in no time flat I spent the rest of the time waiting for my sandwich by nibbling on the tiny bits of croissant that had flaked off while we pulled it apart to enjoy it. My sandwich was delivered minutes later, and it was a real looker. Dressed simply with a little mayo and served with an unexpected-but-welcome handful of ruffled potato chips, this sandwich was a flavor powerhouse. The avocado was perfectly ripe, the bacon crispy but with some chew, and the chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and moist. The ciabatta held together admirably and was a great vessel for the sandwich fillings. All in all it was a great bite and a perfectly-sized option for lunch. The gentleman who took our order and rang us up was very nice and helpful, and our food was served quickly and efficiently but without sparing any quality. If I had to identify any shortcomings, it would be that their only option for a cup of water was to fill it from the water fountain next to the coffee carafes. A water dispenser with a few slices of lemon would be cheap and easy to introduce and really elevate their operation overall...but that's just the snob in me talking. I didn't get a chance to sample any of their actual bread products aside from the ciabatta my sandwich came on, but they all looked excellent and I can't wait to stop back in to grab a loaf of whatever catches my fancy. read more

Good little cafe in the Baymeadows/Southside area. I've seen this pop up on my radar a couple of times and had to check it out. I'm so glad I did. They have several sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads for lunch. They also have a pretty decent breakfast menu that's not just baked goods or pastries! I wasn't there for breakfast but I'm going to need to stop by one day and try it out. They also have several loaves of bread baked daily for sale. I ordered the turkey avocado bacon sandwich, I recommend ordering it as is. The bacon is nice and crispy, the chicken isn't too dry at all and they added red onions for an extra sweet crunch. I believe the bread is coated in a olive oil as well for some moisture. It came with a side of chips which were delicious. My son ordered the grilled cheese and man, they really cheesed it up. I had to steal a couple of bites to try it. We also ordered a side of cinnamon roll. It doesn't really come as a side but it looked too delicious to not also get it. You have the option to get original or ORANGE icing. Let me repeat that. You can get orange flavored icing on your cinnamon roll. And if you haven't tried that combo you need to. Let me just say it was as amazing as i knew it would be. The price wasn't too terrible. I think I spent about $27 after tax and tip for two sandwiches and a pastry. Jax Bread is a fantastic hidden gem on the Southside. I haven't had a chance to try their actual loafs of bread (and they have a lot of options!) but have tried a pastry and a breakfast sandwich. I got a bacon, egg, and cheddar cheese sandwich on a plain bagel the other day and it is above and beyond any breakfast sandwich I've ever had. It's pricier than going through a drive thru but so worth it. I'm looking forward to trying their lunch menu when I'm working on this side of town again. The space itself is small with only a few tables but as someone else mentioned, it's a local bakery and they have lot of work to get done in the back. Both times I've been in the married couple who own the places have been up front taking orders and bringing out food and are super friendly. Excellent! Besides great baked good, they have tasty sandwiches. I had The Market and I don't normally get veggie. The focaccia was super fresh, soft, & made a great Sammie. I was CB offered pesto or tomato pesto and chose the latter. I had them add provolone. FANTASTIC sandwich! My wife had the Chicken, Avocado, Bacon. She loved it. We bought a loaf of sour dough (makes great toast), a couple sweets and 2 everything bagels. These are the closest I've had to real, NY Bagels in FL! Boiled & baked, not from some food service supplier. Those were a great find! Will be back. read more
