But Jax Bread is probably the best you're going to get in Jacksonville. And it's excellent on its own merits. I ordered the lox bagel and it hit all the right notes: a perfectly chewy bagel, super fresh toppings, and the ideal cream cheese-to-bagel ratio (which matters more than people realize). Everything tasted fresh and was thoughtfully put together (more proper ratios). The service is always lovely, and I've genuinely never had anything here that wasn't delicious. This visit, I also grabbed the day-old mystery 3-pack of bagels so I could carb out a few more times this week. They're just as tasty, freeze beautifully, and at $2.99 it's an unbeatable deal. I'm already eyeing Jax Bread for some Christmas goodies this year because there are so many great things to choose from. If you haven't been yet, fix that. read more

I have found a new breakfast and lunch stop near work along with a fabulous bakery in Jax Bread. There is seating inside and outside. Quaint little space inside. Great bagels. This was the best bagel I've had in Jax! Very affordable too, $5 for a toasted jalapeno cheddar bagel with chive cream cheese. The service was fast and they were very sweet. They had great deals on day old bagels, 3 for 2.99 and even day old bread that the lady said would be good for 2 more days out and as long as you'd like in the freezer. I stopped in for a bite on a late Saturday morning recently and also grabbed some bread to take home. The breads were great! They offered to slice it (thin or thick), which I appreciated. I got the African sweet bread and an old fashioned sourdough. The sourdough was nice and chewy, and the sweet bread was so soft with great flavor. The breakfast sandwich I got was great, too. They didn't skimp on the eggs, and they were seasoned well. A couple things that I wish had been different: - The pricing for baked goods was fine in my book, but the breakfast and lunch were pricey. My egg sandwich with cream cheese and avocado was $14.99 and didn't come with any side. - I think they get pretty behind with online and delivery orders; I was one of only three tables dining in, and it took a half hour to get my sandwich. - I ordered an orange juice and got one with a "use by" date two weeks prior. I pointed this out to the person at the counter, who said it was fine because it wasn't an expiration date, just the date that it tastes best by. I'll come back whenever I'm looking for fresh bread and may splurge on a sandwich sometimes. I do think I'll try ordering ahead in the future, though. read more

I "met" Jax Bread and Co via a delivery service about a month ago. Since that day I've made multiple delivery orders and been in-store twice. Jax Bread and Co. has cemented its place in my carb-loving heart. I've tried almost every kind of bagel, the focaccia bread, ciabatta roll, cranberry walnut sourdough bread, banana bread pudding, and more. Honestly, I would love to try every single item on their menu! The bagels are the best I've ever had in the 30 years I've lived in Florida. When toasted fresh, they are crunchy/crispy on the exterior, soft and steamy on the inside, and flavorful. They also freeze very, very well!! I had breakfast in the shop for the first time today. Not only is the food incredible but the service is also top-notch! There is a bit of a wait for the food but when it comes out you can tell it is freshly made and soooooooooo worth the wait. I tried the Bruschetta Avocado Tartine. The tomatoes were sweet, the avocado creamy, the toast crunchy and chewy. The balsamic drizzle wasn't overpowering. The Tartine made me do a "happy dance" in my seat. I'm looking forward to making a return trip! The French Toast is about two inches thick covered with whipped cream and goodness. Never disappoints. I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel sans truffle oil. They do a lovely chive spread on it which elevates the sandwich even further. My family and I LOVE Jax Bread! We don't get to come out here often due to our schedules. Their food is always a 10 out of 10!!! The staff is sweet and helpful. Very disappointing. Came here because the person on the phone assured me that they had sourdough ROLLS. He recommended I reserve them in case they run out, so I reserved for the next day. I intended to purchase more when I got there, but this is not a true bakery. They have breakfast sandwiches and sourdough LOAVES, but no rolls! I wasted a 40 minute trip because the person on the phone didn't know what they have. The loaf is OK, but Fresh Market or Panera is just as good IMO. Meanwhile, I had a function to bring rolls to and couldn't because they miscommunicated. Was searching everywhere for a lox bagel for my wife and her sister. Stumbled upon this place where we ended up eating two days in a row. The bagels were so soft and fresh which is why I didn't mind waiting 25-30 minutes to get my food. I also noticed that although it's a small area the door was revolving with people walking in to grab Togo orders. There are some seats outside in the shade so we enjoyed our breakfast there. The staff was super friendly. They also have a tablet at the front that you can put your order in instead of waiting in the line... we weren't in a rush but we used that so we didn't feel rushed as we decided what we wanted. I got a bagel with chicken and bacon on it (not a huge breakfast person lol) and ever kept stealing bites from me including my 1 year old girl. It was so good. Due to time, we wound up placing an online order via their website (which BTW is super easy and great if you're crunched for time). This location is located in a smaller stripmall off of Baymeadows Road. Parking can sometimes be problematic if you're visiting during a busy time like lunch or breakfast. When you arrive, you are greeted with some freshly baked smells of bread, croissants, muffins, danish, and more! Their menu is located on a chalkboard and you can peruse the counter to check out their baked items of the day. We ordered a dozen bagels, some cream cheese, and a loaf of their cranberry nut bread. There aren't a ton of tables and seating available, so beware. Sometimes grabbing items to go is better, so you don't have to worry about seating. The staff was super friendly, accommodating, and nice. The baked items we had were great. The raspberry cream cheese was different, but lovely surprise! For what we got, take-out loaves, it really wasn't that impressive. For about the same price, I can get better at a Publix bakery, with far better variety at the grocery store. I do realize most of the goods at Publix are shipped in frozen from a central location, and it's not truly local or artisinal. Mind you - I really do want to find a good mom-and-pop bakery that isn't all cup cakes and desserts. I want the quaint underdog to beat the big businesses that have squashed them. They have a small menu but a large assortment of different breads or bagels that you can have your sandwich on. I was greeted upon arrival by the staff that were working in the back and were helpful in selections. The young man waiting on me, advised to get the cheddar jalapeno bagel for my sandwich but I opted for a plain bagel for my sausage, egg and cheese bagel. The bagel also comes served with truffle oil, chives, and tomato. It was amazing. If a bagel sandwich is not your thing, you can opt to have your sandwich on bread or French toast. They also offer a wide variety or sweets, danishes, bagels and cream cheese toppings (like maple cinnamon and bacon). It is a little expensive but well worth the price. read more

When you first walk in through the doors, you are blasted with the aroma of fresh baked bread. It smells heavenly! There are 3 tables and a counter along the wall, with seating for maybe 12-15 patrons. We ordered the Chicken Bacon Avocado on Ciabatta Bread with the side salad. Bought about $35 worth of items, 3 types of croissants and a loaf of bread. The bread on display was rock hard so the girl brought a loaf from the back which was seemingly softer. The only thing worth purchasing was the raspberry croissant, everything else tasted day old. The bread didn't taste good at all, Publix is actually better and cheaper FRESHLY baked. You're a bread co, bake daily and serve fresh products! Worst plan croissant I've ever had, Costco has better. Don't waste your money. Agh, this used to be our favorite bakery a few years ago, the sausage rolls were life, bread puddings were the stuff of dreams. Came in today to find their menu has greatly diminished and their once boisterous pastry case filled with a good variety is now filled with sourdough bagels... which is great, but not what I was expecting. The prices have also gone way up on what is left of their non-sourdough items, $10 for a cinnamon roll is pretty steep. read more
