We drove all the way here from Orange Park to try this place out on a Saturday morning. Went in, and it's completely dead. Look up at the menu board and see that a ham, egg, and cheese costs 15 dollars, and if you want it on a croissant, it costs an extra 2 dollars. That's insane, and I couldn't justify spending that type of money on a 4 dollar breakfast sandwich. Got a cookie (which tasted several days old from Costco) and an almond croissant which was tasty. Tried to eat inside but the amount of flys landing on our food made it impossible. We won't be back. read more

I was excited to try this place because I had heard good things from friends but was a little disappointed in my experience. The place is cozy and cute, with some indoor and outdoor seating available. We ordered Simply Eggs, with poached eggs on African Sweet bread. It took a long time for our orders to come out and the bread itself was a little dry, with barely a hint of the truffle oil dressing. It needed a little something more to make it worth the price. We were craving bagels today and we were so hungry we almost went to Panera down the road. However we drove the extra miles to check out this local biz instead. They have pretty basic bagel choices (plain, everything, cinnamon, sesame) and not much cream cheese choices (plain, loaded, honey walnut). We were a little hesitant because it's almost the same offerings as Panera. BUT the bagels were big and delicious. The cream cheese spreads loaded and honey walnut were very good and definitely less processed as anything from a corporate chain. All of the staff there were cheerful and they even brought our order out to the car so we didn't have to wait outside by the door. I would give 5 stars if they added another 1 or 2 cream cheese options and/or bagel options. Oh yea, we also got the pastries from the sale selection and they were good! I have been craving a bagel for several weeks and decided to try Jax Bread this Sunday morning. We arrived a little before 11:30am. As my husband walked inside a few more cars pulled up, and I thought to myself "oh good we beat the crowd". My husband got to the counter pretty quick (only 1 person ahead of him.) and ordered 2 bagels toasted with a side of cream cheese to go. He was told 25 minutes before they'd be ready. He asked to clarify, "to go?" And she said yes, 25 minutes. He pointed at the display case and said "how about not toasted, just the 2 bagels in a bag with a side of cream cheese, we'll toast them ourselves at home." She answered, "25 minutes. There are other orders ahead of yours." He said "never mind, cancel the order. That's ridiculous. I kinda understand if we needed it toasted and prepared. But putting 2 bagels and a prepackaged container of cream cheese in a bag should not take 25 minutes." The cashier shrugged, canceled the order, and called for the next person. Nary an apology. Such a cute and relaxing place! They make their pastries and bread fresh every morning, so it smells amazing once you walk in, and the workers are super friendly and helpful. An absolute neighborhood gem. I drove by last Sunday & made a point to stop in to buy some goodies this morning, I love supporting a local business and Jax Bread Co deserves it. The shop has a clean, minimalist feel and was clean as a whistle. My little one & I shared a Nutella Danish which was a flaky, hazelnutty little heaven. I had three other assorted cheese danishes boxed to deliver to my brother & his wife which they raved about, admitted they'd nearly eaten all three before I was even out of the neighborhood. Went to Jax bread this morning and purchased 2 bagels and a sourdough loaf and hate to say it I was very disappointed in them. The bagels and bread were so dry I questioned if they were day old. I have had Jax bread co bagels in the past at a work function and raved about them as the best bagels I had here since living in NY; sadly not today. Opening a pastry box is like opening a present! As I'm walking to my front door I catch a whiff of sweet, buttery goodness. The anticipation wonderful- I took home a blueberry danish & a cinnamon roll with lemon cream icing. The danish was a dense, buttery, flaky bread with a hint of sweetness, the blueberries compliment the pastry perfectly. Now the cinnamon roll- I confess being so excited I dropped my phone in the icing trying to take a picture before digging in! I am absolutely obsessed with Jax Bread Co. I discovered this place about 5 months ago and I have been back about 10 or 15 times. I get the bacon egg and cheese on an everything asiago bagel and it is to die for. My husband always gets the turkey melt or the chicken bacon avocado. All the bread is so delicious. All the drinks are so delicious. You literally cannot go wrong with anything that you get from here. There are sometimes only 2 ladies running the whole operation, and to that, I commend them. Wow! Jax Bread Co is incredible and super fresh. Nana, the owner, is such a joy and has such a fun character. Everything that I have eaten here makes my taste buds sing. Their Lox Sandwich is served on their homemade bagel with cream cheese, capers, and salmon. It had the perfect taste and and the perfect bite to it. Highly recommend. Another thing that I REALLY enjoyed was their Brie Melt. This is served on old fashion French sourdough bread with brie cheese, arugula, bacon, house-made fruit compote. The cheese pull on this sandwich is instagram worthy and the flavor is just over the moon incredible. I have also tried the Lemon poppyseed bread. Let me tell you. My mouth was watering from the moment I saw it, and the first bite was better than anything I could have dreamed of. It was topped with a delicious glaze on top of it as well. WOW! A new bakery is in town!! Located in a strip mall right off Baymeadows, near Phillips Hwy We ventured in to see what they had, it smelled wonderful when you come in and we were greeted by some lovely ladies including the owner Nana, she just opened this store front to sell her baked goods from but she has been baking for a while selling to restaurants and at farmers markets and such. We tried: -Cinnamon Roll with Cream Cheese Frosting- Delicious! Light, not too sweet or greasy, frosting had hints of lemon (or maybe orange) in it, a upgrade from the mall ones. -Cheese Danish with berries- good flavor, but the pastry was a lil dry..least favorite of the bunch -Chocolate Croissant- heavenly!! Light flakey with rich chocolate inside -Croissant filled with blueberry preserves and Brie Cheese- my favorite!! It's like everything a pastry should be!! Buttery, soft, flakey, fruit, cheese melted into the Croissant and a lil crispy on the bottom, I could eat this everyday!! -Ham and Cheese Brioche-savory roll, like a cinnamon roll but with ham and cheese rolled inside..good, but maybe needs a sauce on the side like a mayo mustard blend? Mmmmm! Holy freakin moly! What a wonderful place! I had a delicious sandwich! I Went to the shopping center looking for a different sandwich place which was gone but I saw Jax Bread Co and was intrigued. I was happy to hear that their bread is made in house daily with unbleached and unbromated flour. I ordered the three cheese sandwich with ham added. I was thankful they accommodated my alternate bread choice. When the sandwich came out, I took that first bite and was amazed! First of all, the bread was divine. It tasted so fresh! This is what bread is supposed to taste like people. Quit buying that junk in the grocery stores. The three cheeses and ham were so good together and then, hello, there's a little bit of pickled onion in there. Next time I will order extra of those delicious pickled onions. I ate half of my sandwich and decided I would take the rest home. I had to make some other stops while I was out and when I got in the car after the first stop I saw that sandwich sitting there. Calling me. Eat me, eat me! So I did. To me, if I can't resist eating more than I should, that is damn good food. My only disappointment is that I live in Saint Augustine and this place is in Jacksonville. Otherwise I would be frequenting Jax Bread Co on a regular basis. I don't recall what the weekday hours are but on Saturdays they close at 2:00. So don't go there expecting a late lunch or dinner. But get your hiney there for breakfast or lunch. I found out about Jax Bread Co through an Instagram story of their cinnamon rolls so I ventured out today to try them out and WOW was not disappointed! The rolls weren't ready when we got there, the ladies said it was a 6 minute wait, but you could smell the rolls in the oven sooo good. When the rolls were ready she asked if it would be okay to put the icing immediately on them and which type of icing: cream cheese or regular. I got one with cream cheese and one with regular icing. Both were REALLY GOOD. The outer ring had a little crunch but the insides were so soft and melt in your mouth. There is a subtle citrus hint to either the icing or the roll itself which is an interesting flavor -- I really enjoyed it. They obviously have other breads and pastries too, but I'll try those next time! There's some seating inside: 2 tables I think and a bar with high chairs. The two ladies were really nice and asked if we wanted anything to drink or to eat while we waited on the rolls. Service an easy 10/10 because they're so sweet read more

I went here for the first time today. I ordered a Bacon Egg and Cheese on an Everything Bagel. I LOVE bagels. The eggs on the sandwich were very, very good. We were so excited to try Jax Bread Co. I had been hearing about them and wanting to go forever and finally decided to give it a try before the pumpkin patch. We ordered 2 bagel sandwiches, a cold brew coffee and a slice of banana bread. We waited 20 minutes without receiving even the coffee or slice of bread. Had to go in and ask what was going on when we saw some people behind us getting their food just to finally get at least the coffee and bread to hold us over. That being said, the food was delicious! I'd love to give 5 stars for this wonderful small business because their offerings are delicious. I visited them twice and while their service is polite, it is slowwww! Order ahead online if you're in a hurry. My first time, all I wanted was a loaf of sourdough and a bread pudding that was already prepared. It took 15 mins to get it. Not sure if that's because I asked for the pudding to be heated up. My second time, I ordered the market sandwich and a pastry and that took 20 mins. Neither needed to be heated. It looks like they need help in the kitchen and I hope they get it soon. I will be going back to try more of their bread. It is truly worth the wait. I don't mind the higher price of their sandwiches because I would support a small business for the quality of their products. But I'm hoping the 5% Covid surcharge that the business is charging is temporary because their slow service does not justify it. read more

I live down the road and tried Jax Bread for the first time today. We ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese, pain au chocolat, cinnamon roll and croissant sandwich with scrambled eggs ham and Gouda. The bagel was served toasted and was pretty good. My wife loved the cinnamon roll and I was a big fan of the pain au chocolat. We both agreed the sandwich was the best. The eggs were cooked perfectly and tasted like it had a hint of truffle oil (could be wrong) but it was delicious. The truffle oil was a great touch. We could have split the breakfast sandwich, came out in a good size portion. I also ordered a loaf of sourdough bread for later. Can't wait to try it. I will definitely be back to try lunch. We asked if they could slice the loaf of bread we were going to purchase and she looked at us like we had 5 heads then said no. I stopped for lunch one day while in the neighborhood because I'd read in an ad in the local food magazine that this was a great small local lunch spot for soup and sandwiches. The number of vegetarian lunch sandwich options on the menu was underwhelming (only 1, out of probably 10, so I went with a croissant egg sandwich with cheese and tomato. It came with a huge pile of scrambled eggs on top and a fair amount of cheese, but was served open faced, with some halved cherry tomatoes warmed slightly if at all and unseasoned. Expensive for what I got, not very flavorful, and difficult to eat the way it was served. As a vegetarian I would not opt to go here again for lunch. Note to owner: Thank you for your consideration and comment on my review. I understand and appreciate that it's a small place and everything is scratch. As stated, I specifically went for LUNCH not breakfast items. The lunch sandwich menu I referred to in my review is correct - only one of the 10+ options on the lunch sandwich option was vegetarian the day I went and the ingredients didn't appeal to me so I moved to the breakfast menu and chose the croissant.
