I had the pleasure of working with Javonica for my wedding dress alterations! She did a great job communicating with me via phone and text. Free parking at her studio and fairly easy to find her studio space. Got my dress back sooner than expected and I couldn't be happier! A couple of fyi's to make your life easier: she doesn't send any confirmation emails so make sure you write down your appointment date if you make an appointment over the phone. Also be prepared to wait a tad in the event that the client scheduled before you is running behind schedule. Would highly recommend her overall. She gave me a really fair price compared to all of the other places I got quotes from. read more

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Javonica! She altered a bridesmaid dress for me beautifully and very quickly. She is highly professional, has a very warm personality, and most importantly is an excellent seamstress and designer. Look no further ladies she will meet all your needs! read more

I found Javonica on Yelp when looking for someone to alter my wedding dress. All the other shops seemed to nickel-dime you the time of the alterations but Javonica was very reasonable and very patient. I did a total of 3 fittings. I couldn't believe how long each fitting took (2 hours!) but I assume that's just because I had never been through the process before. She gently gave me her opinions without forcing me into a decision, so it was a good collaboration. FYI her workspace lighting could be brighter, so I would try to schedule the fittings during the day when you have the natural light as well. But it was generally okay so as long as you keep that in mind. Thank you Javonica, I hope we can work together again soon! read more

In 2018 Javonica perfectly altered my wedding dress. I bought it about 7 sizes bigger and when she was finished it was as I said ;PERFECT!! Javonica also made a custom dress for my reception. I got it later than originally planned but in time for the wedding. I think that she got caught up in prom orders. She made my reception dress within a week and it was stunning!!! The details, the stitching, the everything was stunning. Customer service Very easy to work with. Kind, pleasant, listens! I would definitely work with her again! read more

Javonica created my wedding dress as well as did the alterations on my maid of honor's dress. She took my original idea and helped me put my own spin on it, worked with me to select fabric, embellishments, and made sure I was happy with every last fit and detail. Everything was reasonably priced, and she worked quickly to make sure it was perfect. I got so many compliments on my dress (plus the outfit reveal underneath). read more

I barely had a month til my wedding and was rushing trying to find the perfect person to alter my dress. My dress had so much detail and the way I wanted it as well I knew would need more than a month to fit it to my liking. I found Javonica and she did such a beautiful job putting my dress into the dress dress I wanted for my special day! I didn't even have a veil yet and she had the most perfect one that matched my wedding dress! I wouldn't have had such a beautiful wedding dress if it wasn't for her! I recommend her 100%! Great advice and wonderful skills in what she does! Thank you so much! Pictures show before the fitting after the fittings and the final product on my wedding day! Please don't mind my faces lol read more

Javonica is the absolute best! My now husband and I decided on a destination elopement this past December and I found my dress two weeks before we left for California. I called Javonica the day I found my dress and she saw me for a fitting that same night. I had one other fitting with her and both times she was very patient and accommodating. Javonica was so sweet during the entire process and made sure my dress was ready in time. My dress fit perfectly and I honestly couldn't have asked for anything better. We're having a bigger celebration with family and friends this summer and I'm definitely coming back to her to get refitted. Thank you for all your help, Javonica! I'll be seeing you again soon! read more

I originally got my dress from David's bridal and when I got in it was 1000x too big for me. When Javonica got done it not only looked beautiful but it fit perfectly. She not only altered it perfectly but she also added an absolutely stunning belt to it. I would recommend her a million times over!! read more

Javonica is an amazing seamstress whom is really dedicated to her work and customer satisfaction. She did an excellent job on last minute alterations that I needed for my wedding dress last week. Javonica was patient and and did everything she could to help me out of this crunch. Every place I went to turned me down because they required at least 4 week for alterations. Javonica was able to complete the alterations in weeks time. I was so overjoyed and relieved to find her. The results were perfect and I am all set for my wedding on 9/9/17. Thanks Javonica for helping me achieve the look I was going for! You made my day! Shenes read more

I recently had the pleasure of working with Javonica for my wedding. She's amazing. She took me on as a client with a 4 month time frame. Every interaction with her was pleasant and professional. And my dress was so beautiful. It is still being talked about. She also did alterations for a few of my bridesmaids. Beautiful person inside and out. I can't wait to work with her again. read more

Javonica is absolutely wonderful! I came here to get a long, formal dress hemmed, and I will certainly return for future alterations. During my initial appointment, she spent a good half hour with me measuring and pinning the dress. First, she pinned it to the length that I thought I wanted, but being indecisive, I asked her to pin it to a shorter length. Once I decided that I liked the longer, original pinned length better, she pinned it like that AGAIN just to make sure it was what I wanted. She has so much patience and was extremely kind throughout the process. I did not feel rushed at all. I was able to pick the dress up a week later, and Javonica insisted that I try it back on to ensure that I liked the new length. It was perfect. I also loved that she called me to confirm that the dress was finished before I went to pick it up--I've had too many negative alterations experiences where I've made a trip to pick up a garment only to learn that it isn't ready yet. She is also easy to contact and has very flexible hours and fair prices. What more can I say...highly recommend! read more

Javonica altered my wedding dress that I had bought at David's Bridal and did a fabulous job! It fit me wonderfully and people thought it was specially custom made for me. The bust area was large when I first got it and she altered it to make it fit perfectly for a reasonable price. I would definitely go to again and again in the future. read more

Javonica in a few short words: professional, detail-oriented, kind, driven, and meticulous. At the core of her work is her sincere desire to make you feel and look beautiful in your dress. I went to Javonica for some pretty serious alterations on my wedding dress. After having gone to 3 other alterations boutiques, Javonica was the only one not afraid to take on the project. I'm beyond grateful for having found her because she truly created the wedding dress of my dreams. During the process, she made suggestions that added to the look I was going for. Javonica also created a custom dress for my flower girl, and took care of the alterations for my bridesmaids. I would tell anyone who asked not to even bother looking elsewhere, Javonica is your lady, hands down. read more

The place I got my wedding dress at wanted to charge me a standard $650 for all alterations. I didn't feel there was much to be done to my dress except hemming it and including a bustle even though the store insisted I needed the dress fixed up from head to toe. I searched all through the city and found Javonica on yelp with her 1 review of doing another wedding dress alteration. After the initial contact, she was incredibly easy to communicate with and did a fabulous job in doing only the alterations I wanted at an amazing price. Javonica designs and creates her own dresses which she has showcased in her office. They were very beautiful designs! If you are looking for any advice on dress alterations or wanting someone to create a dress for you, check Javonica out :) She's awesome! read more

Javonica Chicago was a recommendation from a friend. When I spoke to her on the phone I had a good feeling about her. I met her soon thereafter, of course after checking her website, and I was blown away by her talent, professionalism and passion. I enjoyed the experience of working with her to design my one of a kind haute couture wedding gown. The process was fascinating. I even changed the design and her temperament was fabulous. She is hardworking, dedicated to her craft and a true visionary. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a personalized dressmaking experience. P.S. I also had her make my daughter's flower girl dress. I think it was just as pretty if not prettier than mine. Love Javonica Chicago! read more

She was able to get me in the very next day and had it ready only a couple of days later. It fit perfectly and I got tons of compliments on it. I don't write Yelp reviews, but Saint Javonica of Chicago deserves one! She worked magic on my sister's intricate bridal gown and altered my bridesmaids dress with a few moments notice---less than a week away from the big day! She's kind, incredibly knowledgable and straight forward with great prices. You can check out some of her beautiful custom work on Instagram at @javonica_chicago. 10/10 I will be back. read more

My initial appointment with Javonica was great and I trusted her with my dress. My dress needed minimal alterations and she told me it would be ready within a certain time frame. When that day came, she requested a day or two to work on my dress which was reasonable. When I followed up with her, she told me my dress was not ready because she has been busy and dealing with employee issues. Again, I was kind but reasonably I started getting concerned. She requested I come in at 7 pm to try on the dress. When I went in, she had just started working on my dress at 730 pm. The straps were already cut short and not where they were meant to be. I kindly asked her that I'll return the next day so she can have more time during the day with my dress. It was excuse after excuse with employee/personal issues and when I finally picked up the dress, it seemed like the job was rushed and I had to take it to another seamstress to redo what had been done. read more

Javonica did alterations for my wedding gown and did a great job at about half the price of what I would have paid elsewhere. Javonica was recommended to me by The Alterationist, who was not accepting anymore clients at the time. I was only interested in a 5 star business and that is exactly what I found! Javonica can help you with styling your dress and gives great recommendations, for example, she recommended we take the sleeves off the shoulder. This presented a unique problem for my full bust (34JJ). Javonica sewed a bra and boning into my dress, it fit like a glove! I would highly recommend her for all of your bridal needs! The location is easily accessible, south side, not far north and parking is free! read more

Javonica is a whiz! I needed alterations made to a bridesmaid dress and was nervous as it not only had to be taken in and hemmed, but also long sleeves added. I had contacted a few other seamstresses before finding Javonica and they all quoted me outrageous prices and made me feel like it was going to be difficult to do the work. Javonica put me at ease -- the whole process was so smooth, from her quote to my fittings. She did a remarkable job on the dress and I received a ton of compliments at the wedding (no one could believe the sleeves were added, they all thought I had purchased it that way)! I'll definitely be using her again. read more

OMG Javonica is nothing short of amazing!!!!!! Like the typical bridesmaids who wait until the last minute to get their dress altered, I fell guilty to such actions. I had 4 days to get my dress altered and everyone was booked or closed. I called Javonica at 7pm on a Saturday, she did state that she was pretty booked, but she would squeeze me in Sunday night (THERE IS A DRESS ALTERATION GOD)!! Javonica took her time and didn't rush my alterations and even assisted me during a faint spell (Life Saver). She finished in 2 DAYS and my dress was snatched to the gawds (fit perfectly). It's always a pleasure to support a Black Owned Business!!!! I will come here for any future alterations and custom pieces! read more

I absolutely LOVED my experience in working with Javonica to do my bridal alterations (got married November 2016). She was patient, professional, affordable and good at what she does. After seeing some of the amazing gowns that she's made, I wish I'd have found her before finding my dress. She also did a great job (miracle, actually) of bringing back to life one of my bridesmaids' dresses (the person who initially did her alterations cut it too short, left stains and did a horrific job). Nevertheless, I can't thank her more for allowing this process to be seamless! I would recommend her to anyone! read more

Javonica is AMAZING!! I needed a last minute alteration done for my bridesmaids dress the day of the wedding and Javonica was available. She was extremely professional and efficient. Her work was incredibly fast and done to perfection. She came recommended to me by the bride and another bridesmaid who were both VERY pleased with her work. I would definitely recommend Javonica to everyone. Also her custom dresses are affordable and beautiful. If I ever have another wedding, I'll be going to Javonica for a custom dress. read more

I had to take time out to write my first review on Yelp! When I say Javonica is a life savior, I truly mean it. She took a bridesmaid dress that had be almost but destroyed from a previous seamstress and turned it into a work of beauty and in less than 3 days! She was extremely patient because I was freaking out and she walked me through the process. Showing me what she could and couldn't do and why. At the end she made the dress a piece I would want to wear again. If you're looking for a person that knows what they are doing, had patience and very professional then look no further. She had become my official seamstress and I know their will be the only place I will ever have work done! Thanks again love you saved my life!! read more

Javonica did a fantastic job on my dress! Reasonably priced and very experienced. I will forever come to and recommend her for all seamstress services! If it weren't for the fact that I got married in New York, I would have had her there in person to even lace the back of my dress. read more
