I needed a location to meet with a colleague and what is a meeting without amazing coffee? During my search Java Lord popped up and offered hours that fit my needs. As such, let's talk about my recent visit. The location sits towards the rear of the high traffic area which is perfect for finding parking. Upon walking in there is an assortment of treats that capture your eye. The ambiance of the location is super chill and artsy. The paintings on the wall are not only amazing but they are for sale as well. Talk about a win win! Being this was my first time I wanted to go outside of my usual coffee order. I decided on the Coffee of the Day with a shot of Almond and Vanilla. The Murder Blend has a smooth Coffee taste. This is the perfect blend for someone (such as myself) who enjoys the authentic taste of coffee. As I love a good Dark Blend. This Medium/Dark Blend allows the roast flavor to be very evident. The flavor profile has a heavy body, and the flavor is prominent but isn't spicy and has the authentic bittersweet tang, subtle chocolate and caramel flavors, with hints of smokiness. Yeah! As you can see, this is a perfect coffee for any moment of the day... The flavor shots are strong which pair well with the heaviness of the Murder Blend. The young lady who helped me originally was nice, however, as she wasn't as much of a coffee drinker I was unable to get her take on any of the other blends. As such, I will be back again to be surprised by the daily blend. Overall, this location is great for a break from a busy day, a chance to meet with friends, or even a quick business conversation. I was really looking forward to coming here. I used to really love this place and it actually has sentimental value to me (for reasons). I drove over an hour here and could not have been more turned off by my experience. The short haired chick could not have been ruder. Overheard her and the owner or manager giggling about how they want to close an hour early just because....? They told me and all the other paying customers to leave just because they were lazy I guess. Funnily enough I was overhearing a customer from some of the other patrons talking about how this place deserves to go out of business and naming off all the things wrong with the place. I really wanted to support this place but now I am inclined to agree. I used to recommend it to people. Now I understand why people kind of roll their eyes at the mention of this place. really cool atmosphere and nice staff. unfortunately the drinks were incredibly mid and i couldnt finish my coffee cause it simply tasted like burnt shoe. go for the vibes and have a pastry, my dad liked the lemon lime loaf. They dont have any nutrition/ ingredients/ names listed on their baked goods so you have to ask if you have to ask incase you have an allergy becuase im sure they have the information somewhere hopefully. Cool place. Open very late and allows opportunity to work while having a drink or two. Wifi is horrid, but its probably more of an excuse to drink than do work. Staff are friendly. Seating could be more welcoming, it is not the most cozy place, nor are the outlets easily accessible. read more

Java Lords is a great option for a quick coffee, or even a drink, in a hip, laid-back atmosphere in Little Five Points. We stopped in on a lazy Sunday morning, and were pleased by the grungy, 90's vibe that reminded me of cafes I used to frequent in Austin. She had a nicely-spiced iced chai and I went for a double cappuccino. Both were simple but well done. The only downside to this spot was that food options were a little lacking, but we didn't mind, as this place is really beverage-centric anyway. They even have a full bar, and I could see myself stopping by for a mixed drink before a show post-COVID. read more

Stopped in here before a show at the recommendation of a friend who is local. They are conveniently located next to the Variety Playhouse and it definitely has a bit of a "divey" feel to it, but the coffee was strong and amazing and the employee behind the counter was super nice and friendly. I came here late on a Friday night after trying to snag some free art in l5p. I came in here (empty handed with no art) thinking it was just a coffee shop, but I like that there is a lounge and this place offers wine, beer and a full bar along with all of your coffee and espresso needs. People say that this place is grungy and full of hipsters and punks - honestly nothing bothered me (as an emo kid that grew up). The servers were nice and made up my double espresso quickly. There is also an outside patio. I'd come back to study and enjoy some more of their coffee. This place seemed really chill. read more

Stopped by to grab some coffee on my way home and it was interesting to say the least. I ordered The Irishmen's Coffee and it was actually stronger than I expected (slightly stronger than I prefer but too much alcohol is ALWAYS better than too little!). I tried making conversation with the bartender but he wasn't interested so I gave up. Definitely more of a bar than a cafe but I decided to get a latte to go, to see how their Java fares. Big mistake! Artsy, trendy joint in Little Five Points. In a way, seems a little lost in translation of what they are more considered: night life or coffee. Have been twice for iced lattes. They have a pretty good coffee selection. As far as a coffee shop would go, flavor of drinks and atmosphere, I would give them between a 3-3.5. Nightlife could be better, so I night check out that scene when I get a chance. For some reason I don't feel like I'm in the right atmosphere for just buying coffee. We ended up here after roaming around Atlanta a bit. There's a huge loose tea selection that the barista/bartender puts in the tea bag with a tiny scoop by hand. I said it was like an art. He and my boyfriend were more practical in their agreement that it could be difficult in busy times. I really liked the non traditional feel of this place. The sort of punk meets coffee and tea and alcohol. The wall of flyers is pretty cool to investigate. If there were books for sale, it would be heavenly. The guys hanging out by the bar were having interesting conversations and were sweet about including us off and on. The refill I was offered as I walked out the door was too good to pass up. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A BARREN SIGHT when I've walked into Java Lords on Euclid. With the narrow corridor of a coffee shop stretching further back than I've ever stepped, I've never made it past a few feet inside, only going as far as the condiment station to throw in my 17 fake sugars and a lid on my coffee cup. I've been here four times and each time the only other person was the sole barista, a guy that I never caught the name of and will probably never see again. The first visit was on the last rainy day here in town and as he crafted my drink, the conversation drifted from how Phoenix has never forced water rations but they receive no where near the rain that falls in Atlanta, to how life sucker punches you and sometimes even kicks you while you're gasping for breath, and then one day you look around and discover that you're absolutely lost even though you have a road map with a sticker screaming at you, 'YOU ARE HERE!', but you're stuck where that sticker says you are because it seems like everyone's left you behind, and you don't have anywhere else to go. On that rainy day morning just off Little Five Points, I received an exceptionally made latte and my commute to Alpharetta still took forever, but it didn't matter. The next few visits were on drier mornings but surprisingly, it was always just me and him and no other customers during the few minutes I'd spend between ordering my drink, waiting, and then adding slight adjustments towards preferences discovered during my years spent as a barista at StarSux. Serving the B&B coffee brand so popular and familiar around these parts, the coffee was always great and we rarely ever mentioned the topic. The small talk would start as just that, but an odd question would work it's way into the conversation and he'd let go a tangent flow of half memories about family and vague allusions to loves long gone and always having to push through the weeds with no end in sight because the only other choice is no choice at all - and without even a tinge of self-pity. With less pretense and none of those faux-philosophical-reality-show-confessional epiphanies, it was always a surprisingly different experience of a morning coffee stop. With no line, no constant rush of the espresso machine, and absolutely none of that artificial-corporate-ordained-happiness pumped into apron wearing baristas, I barely noticed the rest of the space. Rather than an all out coffee-house-guitar/band/music/songwriter scene there is a slant towards theater, and improv splatter fliers line the bulletin board. My fourth visit was his last day working there, having moved onto a new job someplace in Buckhead. And although I've been back, and the coffee is just as awesome and the space just as empty on nearly every morning, it's different. I suppose that's why some of us keep trying new places and meeting new people at random, for those chance meetings that glimmer and fade but connect strangers before we disappear forever. ***2/33 read more

I stopped in for 3 Yuenglings during the Halloween parade on Saturday, and I was pleasantly surprised by this place for several reasons: 1) They didn't make me wait in line behind the half-caf, 2% milk, no foam, with whip, 2 pumps of sugar-free caramel sauce latte peeps in front of me, since all they had to do was pop open the beer bottles for me; 2) The employees were largely responsible for running off the crazy guy on the other side of the street telling us we were all sinners while we were trying to enjoy an innocent parade; 3) The beers were only $3 each. and 4) Anywhere that has booze AND a variety of coffee drinks (my two favorite vices) is good in my book. And I've never personally had their coffee, but my Dad loves it. So there you go. And I figure the depressive qualities of the alcohol should balance the upping effect of the coffee, so in essence, this place sells balance. Love it. Comfy atmosphere, too. :-) read more

Came here recently to meet up for a meeting. It was about midday so it wasn't super busy. Just a few laptop jockeys seated at the few tables inside. After sitting inside for about an hour or so, it seems that the main focus here is the bar over the coffee. The coffee selection is grand and they sell some really great whole-bean varieties. I think the thing that made me turn my head is that one of the two people behind the counter/bar was doing some pretty hefty day-drinking. Not a huge deal to me, honestly, but that can be a little misleading. The "coffee" aspect of this place seems a little lost in translation and the focal point is more booze from my perspective. Sadly the creative and ecomomic potential for a coffeeshop that has a liquor licens has been spoiled by the kiddie effect. Coffee drinks here lack that crafted with passion essence. Java Lords is a quaint coffee shop located on Euclid Ave in Little Five Points. It's nearby competitors include a Starbucks and Aurora Coffee on Moreland. While not as mainstream, this place has its perks that set it apart from its more frequented coffeehouses nearby. Coffee: good! Currently, I am enjoying an iced coffee. Unlike other places where they give you iced coffee in a cup and then you have to go to the side counter to add your own sugar/cream, this place asks you when you order how you would like it. They'll prepare your drink with cream and sugar and stir it for you. Nice, unless of course you have some weird sugar:cream recipe that no one else can replicate. Iced coffee cost me slightly over $2. Their hot brew is great also, which can be served in a mini french press. They have a decent list of teas which can be prepared hot or cold. There is a glass case which had some pastries/bagels, although I have never tried them. And they have beer, if that's your coffeehouse beverage of choice. Staff: very friendly and informative. Very willing to answer questions about various beverages. Ambiance: When you enter, there is an urban feel. Unfortunately, not a ton of tables/chairs. There are a total of 4 table/chair combinations, a couple of chairs at the coffee bar and a plush loveseat with 2 nearby chairs. The artwork is alternative and adds to the urban feel. The same applies to the music. A little loud, but not overbearing. There is also an outside area which has several more tables/chair under an awning. Probably great for talking; not sure about for studying. In general, there are a decent number of electrical outlets. Internet is free. There is a computer/printer which can be used but the cost-of-use is a bit exorbitant ($2.50 for 15 mins; $0.50 per page printing). You generally can find parking across the street, so this should not be a deterrence as it can be with some other places in Little 5 Points. In summation, if you are looking for a new place to try for some studying or before heading to the Varsity Playhouse for a show, this is a great option. Minimal table space, but free internet, great service and great drinks. Good for meeting up with friend to catch up or get some studying done. read more

Located next to 7 Stages in L5P, Java Lords is a great place to get a quick bevvie before any show. They have the standard joe, but beer and wine, also. The space is definitely alternative, it's open to the 7 Stages lobby and their smaller blackbox space. The bathrooms don't have doors. They have a teeny tiny area for maybe one person with a guitar, and a screen for showing art-house movies. Last time I was in there, they were blasting some documentary about heavy metal. Kinda made conversation impossible, but there were some hard core fans there. The coffee is decent. It's a great option when I'm working backstage at 7 Stages and don't have time to run over to Aurora. I think it's a little pricey for what I get, usually a Soy au Lait, but still cheaper than the chain joints. It's good on the go, but I wouldn't really go there to hang out, even though they have free Wi-Fi. read more

Java Lords is a new coffee shop in Little Five Points located a few feet away from Variety Playhouse. It's just what I like: small, independent, quality coffee, and lots of local art and information to be had. There's not a ton of seating inside, but they have some tables outdoors with umbrellas. Java Lords serves Batdorf and Bronson coffee, which is great since it's roasted locally and ultra fresh. The drip coffee tasted great, it hadn't been sitting for hours. The espresso I tried was nicely done. Good baristas, who have more talent than the push-button coffee jockeys you'll find at most Starbucks locations. One more thing: they offer Turkish coffee, which is a real rarity, but not if you're getting it to go. Which means you'd be taking their cool copper kettles with you. read more

The staff was pretty curt here. The dude who looks like he cut his own hair in a dark room (or if you prefer, Rivers Cuomo with a peanut allergy) was particularly dick-y. Plain and simple. I've become a chai latte snob lately and have been turning my nose up at the coffee shop chais across Atlanta. Java Lord's chai, however, is in my top 3! Not sickly sweet, not too spicy. I like going here to work and study, but they also have a full bar and a night scene. They're connected to 7 Stages theatre so that can make it interesting in the evening. Downsides include lots of smoking on patio and in front (where there are a few chairs), and no dogs allowed on patio; I've sat with mine at the table out front before which is nice, but there's only one table so it's hit or miss finding a dog friendly spot. Also, the snack selection is meager and includes just a few pastries wrapped in cellophane. read more

Let's start with the coffee: tasty, organic, fair trade, a little bit pricey, but not disappointing. The daytime atmosphere is lively, with almost invariably good music. They also have decently padded chairs, which makes studying a lot easier, especially if you're a fellow member of the Bony Ass Club. The little patio out back is quieter and not accessible from the street, allowing you to enjoy a cigarette with your coffee without getting hassled by hobos. The patio also directly abuts the Ali Baba patio, which means you can spy on people smoking hookahs! Evenings here feature strong representation from the Bony Ass (and bony everything else) contingent. I've yet to get any of my friends to come with me here for a beer at night; I think we're all a little bit intimidated by the clutch of pretty little hipsters that invariably blocks the sidewalk in front of this place after dark. read more

Sigh, the expresso you make is better than Octane and I'll just have to proclaim it. It's a true Italian style and it's smooth on the tongue, no bitterness. The cappuccino I had later in the day was enjoyable and along with sitting in the sun made for a lovely afternoon. They have the Hookah porch in the back, a full service bar, and cheap prices on premium beer. How can you go wrong with any of that? I came in here for a midafternoon cup of tea and a spot to read for a while and found myself in what looked at first like an awkward space but in fact turned out to be an exceptionally pleasant environment. Despite this being billed as a coffee place, there's a decent selection of tea and the staff are knowledgable about it. The seating area is well set up, with bar seats for the more extroverted and tables and a few booths for the introverts or small-group socializers. I ended up staying longer than I'd originally intended because the atmosphere was so nice and I liked the music. read more

They are attached to the theatre where Dad's Garage is temporarily performing and they complement each other perfectly.
