Jason's feels like Ben's back in New York: Jewish-style deli, not kosher, large space, tons of seating, family-friendly. You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. I came late-night with a small group and got the Nutty Mixed-Up salad (800+ calories). For the price of $10, my salad was a good portion and tasted good, especially with the feta and walnuts. The chicken was tasty and I wish there was more of it. The greens felt a little limp, but the dressing and hot sauce made it good enough to eat. I also got their hibiscus tea and loved it, but it's sadly drowning in sugar. Their food isn't wowza great, but it's comforting and filling, and healthy relative to the fast-food grease all around. We have been eating (occasionally now, once regularly) at this Jason's since it first opened (20+ years ago?), but today was our first visit in a couple of years. Our sandwich was basic and somewhat tasty; however, while we ate, we were reminded of the reason that we had not returned for about two years. The floors were nasty, appearing not to have been swept in a day or two - with pieces of sandwiches (pieces of meat, olives, etc.) lying in the floor. The salad bar badly need to be restocked, with several items out or nearly so. From its appearance, we were very glad that we had not paid for it!! The soft-serve ice cream machine, which was out of commission at our last two visits (2+ years ago) still is not operating, and, from its appearance, we likely would have been afraid of eating anything that came out of it. The food safety precautions observable in the food preparation area were questionable at best, and staff members even walked out to the salad bar to prepare wraps, etc. while we were there. For instance, one employee walked across the room with an open tortilla and used a gloved hand (rather than tongs) to get food items from the salad bar to place onto the tortilla - then, of course, sauntered back across the room with the thing exposed to the air, even near customers coming out of the order area. At one point, a bearded man (assumed to be the owner or manager) walked in from outside and moved immediately into the food preparation area. He didn't wash his hands at all - didn't even wipe them! I noticed on our way out that he wouldn't have been able to wash his hands anyway, for the only sink in the food preparation area was covered with food wrappers and packaging. [Did any of the employees ever wash their hands?] This man moved along the food preparation area, picking up some containers (just looking at them) - and appeared to handle some food items. He then went out in the area around the salad bar and ice cream machine, then went back into the food prep area, where he was observed handling more items. How safe is the food here?? We decided that this will be our last visit to Jason's, which once was one of our preferred 'eateries.' Now, it appears to be on its last leg - if not from lack of business, then at the hands of the local health authorities!! Shameful!! read more

My husband commented this place seems run down like a place going out of business that's owner doesn't want to put any more money into it. The lights were out over half the salad bar and employee lsaid it had been broken for 2 years. (I wondered if it was properly chilling the dressings - you couldnt see them very well till they were on your salad but the spoons were labeled. The greek dressing/feta tasted a little off. The ice cream maker was out of mix and the spout was gummy and drippy. The employee refilled the vanilla side with ice cream mix but the spout was still gummy and drippy. (I wondered if they ever clean the inside or outside). The womans bathroom had a broken stall but the whole bathroom stunk. Why was there no air freshener - how long has that stall been broken? We always liked the Nashville locations of Jason's Deli so the Jackson location was a real disappointment, especially because that's where mom wanted to try for mothers day after finding Redbones was closed Sundays. Yuck. We wont go back because it didnt seem like this was the result of a storm or something they were recovering from, but just a lack of mgmt concern and lack of maintenance of basic equipment and facilities. And it was over $40 for 2 sandwiches with salad and 1 large baked potato so youd expect a nicer experience. All that said, the staff were nice and my sandwich was good - but we still wont go back. I am a regular delivery customer. I have always had great service. I'm disabled so they will check my mail also. Anastasia fixed the best salad off the bar. She followed my instructions perfectly. I can only have iceberg lettuce due to medication. They cut up my lettuce since it's not on the salad bar. I cut the salad up in smaller pieces and the salad she built made it easier to get to the things that needed cut up. It was so big that I only ate a fourth of it. I love this chain! I can always get full on a fresh and delicious and mostly healthy meal at a decent price in a clean and friendly atmosphere. On my most recent visit, I took my grandparents to lunch to try it for the first time. I got my usual- the Ultimate Salad Bar with a side of seasoned grilled chicken (obscenely overstuffed plate of spinach and veggies and nuts and dressing plus the little gingerbread muffins). I ordered my grandmother the Pollo Mexicano potato- which is marinated chicken breast, sour cream, homemade pico, cheddar, and a natural buttery blend on top of a MASSIVE baked potato served steaming hot! My grandfather "built his own" sandwich with roast beef as the main ingredient. They both loved it! My grandfather said it was one of the best sandwiches he's ever eaten. And who doesn't love the free soft serve ice cream. This location is right on par with others in the country and offers fast, friendly service. Try it next time instead of Subway! southwest spices. read more

When we got there it was packed, the manager approached the line to inform us there were no tables at the moment but by the time we were through the line there should be one available. And it was! Eh... Jason's Deli was where I had my very first job and donated 2.5 years of my life here before college making a whooping $6.15 an hour. I wish I had those years back, but oh well... here is my review. - Good food for overpriced deli sandwiches. They offer a wide variety of food besides the sandwiches though and the salad bar is always sufficiently stocked fresh with your favorite additives for the salad. - Good service for when you actually need them for their service. - Delivery is convenient and delivers to a wide area range in Jackson. If you live on East Chester, they more than likely won't deliver there. I know when I was there they didn't in 2002 - 2004. I highly doubt that has changed since. For some reason they will deliver all the way to Christmasville Road though so you guys are in luck if you live out in BFE. Thank goodness for gps systems. Jason's Deli has the same concept as a Panera Bread Company. You order, pay, and assist yourself by grabbing your drink and wait for your meal. Usually they call you up to grab it by the number they provide you on the receipt, but if you have a specialty sandwich that would require a little extra time, they assign you a large red number to place on your table where they bring out your plates to you. Salad bar is usually self serve along with the free ice cream you can get after you've ate your meal. Prices have always been steep, but you know, for what you get -- some would say you do get your money's worth compared to going to McAlister's. My favorite meal from Jason's Deli hands down would be the Beefeater or Club Royale. What I like aren't the healthiest things, but they do offer tons of healthy options that even specify so on the menu. Health nuts are encouraged to eat here. Warning -- do not come here on a Sunday during lunch. The wait is a nighmare. Happy eating folks! read more

Hmmm. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, because the food was pretty good, but my main gripe is that I feel that you don't get as much food for the price as I think you should. Volume-wise, most of my meal was puffy bread, whereas I'd rather have more of the veggie filling and less airy bread in proportion. I had a 1/4 veggie muffaletta with fresh fruit ($7.49). It also came with some chips...I wish I'd realized that there was a choice of chips or baked chips...would've preferred baked chips. They also had a fruit dipping sauce which I was planning to avoid, but I tasted a little and found out that I liked it. I think it was sweetened, thinned sour cream, which I love. Wasn't too heavy to go with the fruit. Decent veg options. Order at the counter, get your number, pick a table, put up your number, wait for your food. Close to the freeway, was a convenient stop on the way to Nashville. Service: friendly, and fairly prompt. A couple times when we seemed lost/confused, employees took the initiative to help us out without waiting for us to ask. Very nice! Location: inside a strip mall with lots of other businesses. My family loves Jason's Deli. We're regulars at the three near where we live, and Jason's is one of our favorite stops while traveling, as well. I love their corporate philosophy and integrity. Good, clean food at good prices. This Jason's in Jackson, though... not so good. If this were my first Jason's experience, I wouldn't be back. It is dirty and disorganized! The person taking orders didn't greet me or speak to me, just looked at me expectantly when it was my turn to order. Then no instructions about where to get my salad plate or drink cups, and I was unsure, as this one is arranged differently than others I've been to, and it was very crowded. After I found where to get my salad bowl, the woman ahead of me picked hers up, and it was very dirty. I could see it from where I stood, but the man setting up the trays hadn't noticed. I picked up my salad plate and there was food stuck to the rim. When I asked for a clean one, there was no apology. The salad bar was messy, and some of the ingredients weren't fresh. I picked through the last of the salad greens and then continued down the line. The green peas were slimy, like they'd been there for a long time. The fruit salad was runny. The restaurant was so busy that I can't figure out how the salad bar items would not be fresh. At our table, I took a napkin and wiped off the benches, which were covered with crumbs and food. The floors and windows were dirty. Please don't give up on Jason's Deli because of this location. They're a great chain and a nutritious choice for a meal. This Jason's used to be great. Then it sucked. Then it was great again. Now it sucks again. The little snotty cashier is rude. It's so uncomfortable ordering from her. I walk into this place in hopes that the manager has gotten this place together. They serve your soup with their hands like just pick up the ceramic bowl and hand it to you. It should be on a plate. I ALWAYS have to send my soup back to be heated up because it's cold. So not only does the lady hand it to me with her hands all around the rim of my bowl, but also it gets to be done twice because it was served cold. It's also dirty in here. The chocolate and ice cream station is always gross.-update! Today it was out of order soooooo...no ice cream. AND I got to listen to the employees cut up at the cashier stand while I ate. Had lunch here today, first ever visit. Very clean restaurant, amazing pastrami and Swiss sandwich, and loved the broccoli cheese soup. Only complaint is that the sweet tea tasted weird, almost like it was old, but I'm sure it's just the brand. Switched to Dr. Pepper and all was great!! Also great for meetings. Quiet atmosphere which is nice. Will definitely go back again. A little pricey, but worth the cost. read more

First time @ Jason's Deli. Had the salad bar. Loved all the organic foods and just feel in love with the organic all natural banana and chocolate pudding. I like the fact the drinks are included with any meal the desserts are well. Drank about a dozen or so cups of hot green tea. The ginger pumpkin muffins are to die for. Glad this isn't my hometown Jason's! Stopped here for lunch traveling from Nashville to Memphis and will not do that again. We arrived right before noon on a Sunday and had one order in front of ours but we still waited over 20 minutes for our food while groups that came in after us were already eating. We ordered our food to go, were told to take a seat by the register and it would be brought to us when ready. After seeing the family of eight that came in about five minutes after us get all of their food, we asked about our to go order. It was sitting on the counter behind the girl that told us it would be brought to us. Not sure how long it had been there. Also, if you want their wonderful pimento cheese, you can't get it in Jackson. Not on the menu. read more

I've ben eating at Jason's for almost a year now, having made the decision to implement as much organic food into my diet as possible, and for a busy college student who is always running around, this establishment has been the model of consistency, delivering upon their promise of real, tasty food. The salad bar is fully organic, and they include a number of organic ingredients in their sandwiches and pasta, as well as offering many gluten-free options.
