We were about 3 hours out from Asheville when I started getting serious about dinner. I am really glad we found this restaurant and area of town. It was very convenient to the hotel we chose on our route through town and in an area that is clearly going through a facelift. The hostess was bubbly and welcoming. The staff was impeccable. We sat out back, as the entire interior was booked out. The outdoor patio is well appointed and comfortable. Their service all around was on point. In addition to our server, a gentleman circulated the restaurant and checked on every table regularly. This level of attention to detail reminded us of the same level of service at Michael Mina's San Francisco restaurant. The food quality, preparation and plating were all also on point and matched the same. In all it was the best meal we had on our cross country trip. We seek these restaurants out in every region and Jargon did not disappoint in any way. We will definitely return. Enjoy! read more

Prices way too high here. Started with the 15 dollar crudo (one scallop 15?!?) lacked in flavor and not really thinly sliced. Got the clams next, they were good, but again overpriced. For dinner, wife did quite enjoy the scallop dish, and I had the pasta dish which had an odd flavor to it, hard to describe. Don't use their online reservation system. If u need to cancel they ignore your messages & calls and charge u a hefty cancellation fee. When in Asheville there are many more reputable restaurants to check out. The owner also got on the phone with me and basically called me a liar. His name is Sean. Great customer relations. Regarding your reply: we were in Asheville for 5 days and ate dinner out every night, your restaurant was the only one we went to with this cancellation policy. Also when I made the reservation I was aware of the policy. However no one was answering your phones until the day of the reservation, furthermore the hostess said my cancellation was "no problem" & she didn't reiterate your policy. I wasn't comfortable leaving the cancellation on voicemail so I used your website which apparently did not work properly or you ignored and to top it all off your owner basically called me a liar by saying I didn't fill out the website form. He was rude to me and he was rude to my wife. I can see if we pulled a no show but I tried to do the right thing. Complete lack of respect for the customer. If I can stop one person from eating at your restaurant it will be worth the $80 cancellation fee. read more

A quiet tucked away foodie paradise. We've always loved every meal we've had but we've especially enjoyed their chef's special meals.

I tried the "duck and seafood gumbo ya ya" as well as the "scallops and pork belly." The scallops and pork belly dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection but more importantly, I was really impressed with all the different components of the dish because they went so well together - I could tell a lot of thought and effort went into creating this dish! The dish on it's own gets a 5 star rating hands down. The gumbo was tasty but a bit on the salty side and definitely not up to par with the pork belly but worth a try still! read more

I came in from Chicago to visit family; we had dinner at Jargon on my last night. My Asheville relatives were not familiar with the restaurant. We had a completely outstanding experience. The patio/courtyard is both low-key, beautiful and spacious. Ther service was the utmost in friendly, enthusiastic and professional. We interacted with at least five staff and to a person, it was easy to see how well educated they all were in their business. The menu - and the food were very special: inventive and incredibly delicious. We loved the offer of 3 oz wine pours to be able to experiment. We dined here recently. I live part of the year in AVL and am familiar with the amazing restaurants our town offers. Jargon was special in terms of the cuisine and our server. The cuisine is unique, favorful and creative. Our server was professional, pleasant and informative. This rating is based solely on the bar who took an unreasonable amount of time to provide our cocktails and wine. We were nearly finished with our meal courses each time when they finally arrived. The great evening started with the hostess saying she would put us at the bar (traveling with 11 year old granddaughter) if we were okay with that. Drinks were tasty, combinations we would never have though of but worked so well. A beautiful dining experience! My husband booked the Chef's Table for my birthday and I'd highly recommend as you get to watch all the dishes come together from your seat! The ambiance is whimsical and romantic, the menu is super interesting, and for the most part our food was absolutely top notch. The lamb tartare is an incredible plate with bold flavors, the salt and vinegar yucca fries are salty and moreish, and the cocktails are well balanced and beautiful. I think there was a little too much going on with some of the dishes, resulting in exciting flavors getting lost in the shuffle. However, I'd rather eat overambitious food than flavorless fare. Service was friendly, but would have appreciated more recommendations and descriptions of dishes. You could tell kitchen manager and chefs knew their stuff. For once, a loss of words in describing the meticulously-planned awesomeness that a dining experience can be! We were a bit hesitant of the seafood-heavy menu, but that didn't discourage us from trying the Bistro Filet, as well as the General Tso's Quail. Amazing! Flavorful and approachable sides accompanied each dish and complimented everything perfectly. We sat at the bar and were delighted with conversation from their bartender, whom we found out runs their bar program. He made an incredible manhattan with Chili Tequila and chocolate bitters - truly amazing. Atmosphere was unique, comfy, and charming. The staff definitely treated us like we were the only people there. This place is slightly off the beaten downtown path but is a slept-on GEM. We had a few places in mind to eat at before we landed on Jargon, but the reservation gods had other ideas. Our dinner was enjoyed in the courtyard area. When being seated, we got to see the lovely design of the inside before taking our seats at a cozy table warmed by a fire. Our server was friendly and informative from start to finish. We enjoyed a nice Barolo, a stellar whiskey cocktail, a halibut dish with perfectly crisped skin, and a braised short rib that was so good it made our eyes roll into the backs of our heads. After dinner we had french press coffee that was beautifully presented Don't believe reviews saying this place is anything less than STELLAR! Jargon gave us a perfect date night. * Honorable mention: The owner brought our first round of drinks out and briefly spoke with us. This experience was the worst. The hostess wouldn't seat us at a table because we didn't have a reservation. We sat squished on one side of the bar because the manager, I assume, took up the entire other side with a computer. The entire hour we were there, no other tables filled the dining room. There were 11 tables and only two were taken. I would have appreciated a table. The food was not prepared correctly. The crudo was cut too thick to consume. Raw fish should be cut thin. Had a below average experience. Maybe we got unlucky because it seems like other people have great experiences here and considering the price and small portions I would hope you're experience is nothing but great. (It was especially disappointing because it was my partners 30th birthday dinner and they knew of the occasion.) We had a reservation at 8:30pm and got there 10mins early but our table wasn't ready until almost 9pm. It took another 15 mins to get food or drinks ordered. Its passed closing at this point and we had almost been there for 1 hour. We knew what we wanted before we got there. The waitress tended to other tables around us more and the kitchen and bar were backed up. All of this caused everything to be dragged out for a long time. The bread that came with the bone marrow app was extremely stale. The entrees were alright, small and interesting.. The pork belly was tough to chew which is very disappointing, it should melt in your mouth. It was the end of the night so I'm guessing everyone was a bit burnt out. The interior design of the restaurant is very nice, we loved the vintage mirror collection in the dinning room. We didn't get out of the restaurant until 10:15pm. There for almost 2hrs for 3 drinks 1 app and 2 entrees $130. It was some what uncomfortable. read more

Cute and cozy! My friends and I came in for Brunch today to celebrate a Birthday! The Blood Mary was delicious and the shrimp is definitely worth the extra $$. I got the Smoked Salmon Benedict and it was good! The salmon was a bit overly salty than what I would have preferred but it mixed well with the hollandaise sauce. The wife and I were lucky enough to be invited to the soft opening of the newest restaurant in West Asheville. We get out a fair amount, and have visited probably every notable restaurant in Asheville, so it's always nice to be able to try something new. I've personally been dying of curiosity to see the inside of Jargon because the building has been sitting vacant for as long as I can remember, and I'd heard rumors for years that it would eventually be a restaurant. As a business owner on Haywood Rd myself, I know first hand that finding and developing the right location can be a very difficult undertaking. The first thing I noticed was the incredible attention to detail. The owner clearly spent a very good amount of time deciding on everything that makes up the space, from the lighting, to the decor, flooring and the little touches - like the antique radio used as a hostess stand, and the turntable playing the music for the dining room. Literally nothing was overlooked. Since I want this to be a very comprehensive review, I'll add one nitpick: turn up the music a couple of notches. I looked at some of the records in the collection, and I would have really enjoyed hearing them better. But then, I also struggled with the volume for the music in my store initially, so I definitely speak from experience. Before I go on, I will not be commenting on staff service beyond to say that it was fine and everyone was very friendly and welcoming. This was as I said, a soft or practice opening, and so they were working on details and basically still training. Anything less than perfect I experienced I have confidence will be worked out very quickly. The bar offers both beer and wine (and I see from the menu online as I write this, liquor, I just don't recall seeing that), some very good selections, and so we went with a couple of local Lookout Browns. It is one of our favorites, so it was nice to see it offered here. Our water glasses were also kept topped off without exception, so that was nice to see. We started with the fried deviled egg appetizer, consisting of three boiled eggs, lightly breaded and fried to a light golden color, then filled with fairly traditional whipped yolks and served atop a Lusty Monk mustard aioli. There were very good, and I'd have never thought to fry eggs in this manner, but as I said, we very much enjoyed them. For dinner my wife had the Filet Mignon, served medium rare (by default), sliced, accompanied by whipped garlic truffle potatoes and zucchini ribbons. She said the potatoes may have been better had they simply been mashed, rather than extensively lightened by whipping, but were good. The steak was excellent, served with a port wine olive sauce. I had the Ahi tuna, served with a Coconut Rice Cake, Cilantro Ginger Pesto and Coconut Chips. While I would have preferred the tuna be seared, it was good and reminded me of a deconstructed sushi roll. In summary, Jargon exceeded our expectations with this visit, and we will be back. I believe it to be a great new option to the West Asheville side of town and we wish them all the best. read more

Let me just start with the fact this is only our second foray out to a restaurant in over a year! With that said, Jargon will not disappoint you. We were met at the door and quickly brought out to our outdoor patio seating. The patio is warm and friendly with mesmerizing space heaters and comfortable lighting. Eric, our server for the night, was fabulous. He knows the menus and was promptly filling every order for the our party of four. He also put no rush on our meal, which we appreciated. The table had a bottle of Clay Shannon Cabernet while we considered the menu. The Cabernet is very good. Wonderful nose with great legs! We tasted the Pork Rind Dusted Grouper Cheeks...great! The Crispy Brussel Sprouts will even satisfy a non-believer in sprouts like me! While everyone in our party exclaimed about their meal choices I had the NC Trout and it was tender and fresh and, as far as I could tell, completely de-boned. Everyone on this crew is friendly and efficient. Do yourself a favor and head on over. Also, there is plenty of parking just across the street in the church parking lot. read more
