I called in that I needed a jump for my car pretty late one night....they first sent Louie who was absolutely amazing, he had the best personality with the utmost professionalism and just all around great customer service. Just as it got dark on the 210 freeway on a Sunday evening I blew a rear tire on my Chevy Avalanche - I was able to pull over to the side of the freeway, not a good place to be stuck with semis and cars whizzing by. I put out flares and started to go about the spare tire routine - BUT my spare tire was stuck, I couldn't get it to lower down. So, after fighting the spare for thirty minutes, I called my emergency road serviced for a tow - but they couldn't find anyone as everything was closed. Fortunately a highway department truck stopped to help - but they had no luck with the spare either - so they called Jan's Towing. Jorge pulled up in literally ten minutes, had my truck loaded safely and securely - taking very special care to not damage the rim of the completely exploded tire, and delivered me and my truck home. Then Jorge, with the job professionally and rapidly and very safely completed, refused to leave until he had crawled under my truck, figured out that the mechanism that lowers the tire was mis-aligned, showed me in case it happened again, and fixed it. THEN he insisted on removing my blown tire and installing my spare and filling it - so I could be all set in the morning. I was deep in the shit and Adolfo came. I really thought I had done everything correct for changing a tire, I mean, things could not have changed since my 1969 Mustang...5 lugs and a tug? I was miffed at this dilemma and a masters degree was of no help in this situation...had a golf round to attend. Adolfo looked at my car and rim and gave me the low down on how to get the bad boy off my Bmer axle...give it a few bashes from the back with a soft mallet...and that's what he did....got me on my way. the guy was exceedingly friendly, professional, and sincerely concerned it was done correctly...3 minutes later I was on my way. This was THE WORST towing experience I've ever had. My wife and I waited about 1 1/2 hours in 100 degree weather on the side of the road in Azusa canyon just outside of the OHV park on Labor Day weekend. The first driver passed us by about 30 minutes after we called AAA and I never saw him come back up the road. Then, about an hour later another driver, Rudy comes to our rescue. But, he didn't know who he's supposed to be picking up. There is no cell service in that area. Only walkie-talkie and CB radio would work, which I have. But apparently Jan doesn't think that is a good investment. So their drivers have no way of communicating to anyone not even their own dispatch. And Rudy didn't write anything down bc he has an excellent memory, not really. So we load up and immediately he decides to pull out from the side of the road and almost crashes into a car that was coming up. I saw the car coming so I know Rudy did too. My wife at that point was scared for her life as this guy is driving down the canyon like a maniac on the opposite side of the road. Rudy, you have passengers, one is a lady, who also just happened to give birth only a month ago with her infant son waiting at home for her. He proceeds all the way down the hill talking about how he thinks he has the wrong car, etc and making us feel very uncomfortable like he's going to dump us or something. I felt like he was trying to get me to hand him some cash so he won't. I know that tactic and it felt like that. He was a very ignorant man. Thankfully for us, my brother in law was waiting down the hill for us and my wife went with him. After some very confusing conversations with Rudy and Jans disorganized dispatch Rudy decides to take me home. Thanks. On the way he continues to drive terribly and yelling at other drivers for not going fast enough. But, he was comfortable enough to check the days MLB baseball scores and saw that the Dodgers were losing. He didn't like that either and explained loudly how much he needs a beer right now. Don't worry Rudy they won. Then I tried to stir up some conversation and Rudy confessed that they don't like picking up AAA members bc theres usually nothing in it for them. They get a flat rate from AAA every month whether they take their calls or not, so it doesn't make financial sense for them. That's exactly how an HMO medical benefit works and why it usually takes more than a month for you to see your doctor under an HMO plan bc you are not a priority and the doctor is getting a monthly check from that network already. Anyway, we finally get to my street and Rudy can barely get his truck up the hill. He constantly verbally jabs the truck for struggling up the hill. Were doing about 15mph. He said the owner is too cheap to buy better trucks and too cheap to put CB radios in them. They should absolutley invest in CB if they're working the canyons. Finally, we unload the truck and bc were on a hill, it starts to slide down his bed uncontrollably and he yells at me to hurry up and jump in. So I did and got it under control. However, if I wasn't nimble that is not something just anyone can do. Like for example Rudy likely would not have been able to quickly jump in and prevent further damage. Just saying. Nevertheless I was home. But, shortly after my wife calls me and is telling me that Rudy keeps calling and asking for $300 for the tow. WTF!!! She says he keeps calling and calling. Now I know it's a shakedown. We called AAA and are having them take care of it now. Good luck Jans and GOD help you Rudy. read more
