good ice cream spot for a hot day. would recommend the purple cow. the servers are very friendly and the wait isn't very long.

Management gave me a $12 credit on the mis-packaging of a June, 23 order. We had the lobster roll today which was pure perfect, super fresh, lightly dressed in mayo with generous portions. Thk u and ur staff for acknowledging my previous situation. Now c an u stop the rain this summer! read more

We were on our way home from the home improvement store and finally decided to try this place. My gosh what a hidden gem. Food was Devine. The fries, THE ONION RINGS, and those breaded mashed potato bite thingies. We tried it all and were not disappointed. What a fantastic local place! Wish I'd gotten the half pound burger instead of the quarter, though. Next time! :-) can't wait to be back! Thank you! read more

This place has been around since I was a kid. Been coming here for at least 40 years. Every time I come home for a visit I need to get a burger and ice cream. The burger was ok, I think they changed the type of beef they use. It was still good and the soft serve was good. It's a drive in and the have old car shows there too read more

This place is very cute and extremely clean bathrooms and all facility the building and parking lots are very well kept. Fast order and small wait for your order. All foods are cooked to order and that's why small wait time. I will definitely be back if we are in the area. This place gets packed quick! read more

We went to Janine's today. We have been going there frequently since the restaurants closed. I called in our order and told he girl we were in the parking lot. She asked for a name and said we could pay when she called the name over the loudspeaker. Said it would be 15 minutes. We waited and waited and after a long wait went to the window. I asked when our order would be ready and she reprimanded me saying that when you call in an order you must come to the window to let them know you are there. I did tell the girl we were there.Anyways, our food was cold. My husband's hamburger and fries were cold, he threw away most of it. My chili dog was cold and had about 1 tablespoon of watery chili, plus it was cold. Very disappointed. That's it for the rest of us summer! They have lost a good customer!!! read more

We love it here! So fun and such great food. Really cool vibe to this place as well. Seems to always be pretty busy, people really love it here! read more

Fantastic place for ice cream and burgers. I have only had their hotdogs a couple of times but those were pretty good as well. It's pretty much a tradition in my family to go there at least once a year. read more

Never a bad meal. Fresh sea food and ice cream is always good. Whole belly clams were awesome! Very big!! Love this place Have been there several times and it is always great. read more

A great spring, summer, fall ice cream spot. Many dinner options but we're all about the ice cream. Always a friendly group at the serving/pick up windows. Their small is medium other places. A creative mix of flavors. The one drawback is the homemade waffle cones. Taste great, but haven't had one that didn't crack and crumble before I finished. read more

Seafood portions very small. Having gone to Clam Box last weekend the same price for fried scallops got twice as many at Clam Box and a better taste. Tiny overprice soda - while clam box gives free refills. read more

Janine's is a long-time fixture in this community. Every kid goes there with his/her team at least once during baseball, soccer, etc season. People go for evening ice cream treats, lunches, and dinner. The food is generally very good, the menu is extensive, the portions are appropriate, and the prices are reasonable. It's an overall good value. The entertainment leaves a bit to be desired, and I prefer to listen to the car stereo and chat with my companions, and sometimes the service can be slow, but Janine's is great for warm summer evenings when you're relaxed and want really great burgers, fries, onion rings and something cold. read more

Just okay. I've been to Janines a couple of times. The last time the place was so packed that it wasn't an enjoyable experience. The lines were long and the pavilion area was very noisy. Our meal was okay and after we finished we ordered ice cream and sat in our car to eat it. I know the crowd isn't the restaurant's fault but it made me not want to go back. read more

Overall I like Janine's for the experience. There's often live music, always a place to sit on the outdoor covered picnic tables and swings. I love their BBQ burger and their enormous hot dog which comes on a sub roll it's so huge. Also love the Mac and cheese bites and most of the ice creams. The only thing I haven't really liked there is the lobster roll but that's because they only do it cold and I prefer it with butter. read more

Hey! I like this place. They have Gifford's Ice Cream, but some specialty flavors are from Bliss Ice Cream, and I LOVE BLISS! Typical ice cream stand/fast food stand. We went on a really nice day, after watching the Boston Marathon. It was crowded, but it looked like they were moving the lines very well. We only had ice cream, but it was a pleasant experience. From now on, I won't drive too far out of way to get to Howard's. Janine's is just lovely! read more

Burger was tasty and the curly fries were delicious. The price was a little high, and they charge for lettuce and tomato. A bacon cheeseburger and a small order of fries cost $12. read more

Janine's Frostee is an oasis of ice cream, hot dogs, burgers, seafood, and more! Live entertainment will often accompany your visit at this relaxing gathering place. There is plenty of outdoor seating (no indoor) with cover in case of a summer rain. They are closed during the winter months and usually open around mid-March. Janine's is a fun place to go as well as the food being fairly well presented and tasty they have bands every couple of nights and spacing is nice for Covid etc. I would recommend this place read more

The Food summary (since July 2018 unless noted): Cheeseburger, plain: had it twice, good, a little dry but you probably can tell them to cook it less B+ Pepper burger: pretty good B Bacon cheddar burger: my brothers favorite mine too, just seems to keep getting better, my favorite beef item A+ Destroyer: A- Fries: done to perfection most of the time A+ sweet potato fries: A Pic Me Up burger: the name is appropriate to how I felt many times, even better A Volcano burger: I think this was on the menu but no more, wanted description and to try it Chili dog: good, I'd prefer spicier A- Lobster roll: (once a previous year, and yesterday) Good before, much better now minus 2 tiny shell bits A Haddock fried: Had several times, had been variable previous years but consistently good the 4 or so times I had it this year A+ Haddock baked: A little liquidy, grew on me B+ Jalapeno bites: A clam chowder: quite good, a little sweet finish and not too many clams A- onion rings: A- ice cream: I shouldn't have it, so I often get those tiny sampler cones, the chocolate and blueberry are great A Polish night: started very bland and slight flavor grew as time went on, not bad but mom's was much better, not enough for price B menu overall: huge! I don't know how they can do so many things so well! portions usually good but can be lacking or large prices: A little high especially with add ons but good value for the dollar Atmosphere: mix of ages and walks of life, local, family friendly community vibe. A- The Vibe: can be variable, usually very warm and friendly, community oriented, family friendly; less customers and mostly cooler vibe for the last 2 weeks especially yesterday The staff: 2 or 3 phenomenally and genuinely friendly (gone?), the rest usually nice too with a couple exceptions excellent at what they do, I'd give 10 stars if I could and this is really what makes this place special. Very clean in and out, although flies under the canopy can be persistent at times. The music: Party of 2 not bad, Guy Bergeron was unimpressive to say the least one time and was pretty good the second time, but I don't know why some of the commentary and the chicken sounds. On August 6, the anniverary of my mom's passing into a new realm, I came back as I was curious about Polish Night. For some reason I expected Polka bands, but since have seen the website state that it is a DJ playing recorded music. Not bad, poorly attended probably because of the weather. On the 10th, I came back and ordered the bacon cheddar burger, and based on what was said and how (not by me), I in retrospect felt like such a bonehead for not reciprocating! Shimmering eyes and an amazing smile radiating epic true inner light! I was kind of a dazed out space cadet that day, intending to order the half pounder and instead having to order 2 quarter pounders. Before I left, I voiced my appreciation of how the cheerfulness here is really helping me (huge understatement) through a difficult time. I had more to add but saw someone rapidly approaching with what seemed like dagger eyes, which sped up my departure. I said nothing wrong and only want all to be as happy as they made me, but I am sorry if the other person saw it as something it was not. A major negative event forced my absence a few days later; One or two cooler times and "have a good one" and I sadly did not see that first person again. The deep gloom returned, interspersed with amazingly intense episodes of feelings of happiness, peace, kindness and well-being. An epic emotional roller coaster ride to say the least. Yet others were amazingly cheerful at times. On the first of September, I was even being called by my first name and almost everyone was smiling. I am Greg by the way, everyone knows that now. This Greg is almost certainly the most frequent Greg to visit, and the Greg that is the most impacted by this place. Abilities I never new I had and lasting positive impacts resulted. Then after that visit, a cooler vibe, one more where they were pleasant and using my name, and then ice coldness from all this last time. Some seemed like they had words but never said them. Although I did nothing wrong, I am so sorry if I said too much or not enough, or if my words of appreciation and respect and thanks had any negative impacts. I wish the best for everyone. read more

Seems like an average ice cream stand/fast food greasy joint. The setup was nice, with a small pavillion. The burgers were like overcooked greasy hockey pucks, not impressed. It appeared to be low quality meat. Too bad, I was hoping the food would be good here. Went during the summer, just finishing up the review I forgot about. read more

My wife is from Ware so we go visit her family once a year. This year we visited this place. I loved it. It is so reminiscent of the "old days". The food is great and the ice cream is delicious. We happened upon Janine's on the way to Hardwick Winery, and were pleasantly surprised. They have an extensive menu, plus ice cream, and the prices can't be beat. The picnic tables were very clean, and our order came out quickly. My only complaint is that everything is served on styrofoam, which even fast food chains have opted out of because it's so rough on the environment. read more

Service doesn't get any better. Super clean, always someone outside washing tables. Food and ice cream are AMAZING. Where else are you going to get soft serve ice cream flavors like pumpkin, cheesecake, red raspberry, orange pineapple, etc! The list never ends and changes weekly! Try anything on the menu, you'll never be disapponted. And if for some reason you are, management will always fix it no questions asked. read more

This place is cute, but I didn't know it was possible for chicken salad to taste so bland and mealy. Not a fan.

This, our first time at Janine's, wasn't a total bust, although it wasn't a completely euphoric experience either. We are devotees of Howard's Drive-In in West Brookfield (we adore Howard's half-pound lobster rolls) but after reading some really good online reviews of Janine's Frostee, we thought we might as well check it out and make the drive a little further west on Route 9 on this Saturday evening. We found the building setup/grounds and food options/prices at Janine's very similar to those at Howard's but Janine's has a bit more seating under canopies. I checked out the ladies' bathroom and found it to be impeccably clean as were the grounds in general. Being smokers, we also found their totally non-smoking policy in the open air disappointing (we feel free to smoke at the picnic tables not under a canopy at Howard's). As we came specifically for Janine's lobster rolls, we both ordered one. While the quarter-pound rolls had all claw meat (perfectly cooked), we found the rolls missing any hint of mayonnaise or other dressing/condiment (how odd since the meat was not served warm with butter), rife with unevenly cut chunks of celery and way too much iceberg lettuce for the size of the rolls. In fact, we found the rolls difficult to eat with such big chunks/whole claws and nothing to bind them together and after our first bites, I high-tailed it back to the food window to grab some mayo from the counter girl. That done, I'm sorry to say that I was the unlucky one to find a small piece of shell and some cartilage within my roll. No big deal, but that has never happened to either of us at Howard's Drive-In. The onion rings we shared were hot, crispy and quite tasty. After consuming our rolls and rings, we headed to our vehicle to partake of our after-dinner smoke, after which we found it necessary to sample Janine's ice cream (more than half the customers at the time we were there were ordering ice cream only). Although Janine's offers a plethora of Gifford's of Maine ice cream flavors (hard), my companion and I both opted for small vanilla and chocolate "twists" of soft serve---very much enjoyed and almost too much to eat. All in all, we thought the drive out from our home in Leicester a bit far considering the quality of their lobster rolls (definitely not THE BEST LOBSTER ROLLS EVER, as touted by a few online reviewers and on Janine's website) and the smoking restriction. We are pretty sure we will give a return visit to Janine's a miss unless, for some unknown reason, we happen to find ourselves in Ware (highly unlikely). But if so, why not just make the drive 10 minutes further to Howard's for truly outstanding lobster rolls and equally delicious ice cream? read more

I so really want to like this place. Big fan of roadside dinning. Tried the clam fritters, looked great. However, little to no clams inside. All batter. Should have known when an order was only $4. Fries were standard fair. Frozen fried. Salads nothing to write home about. Ice Cream was a better fit. Big selection, and while not home made pretty good stuff. read more

Great food. I like that you can use a credit card now. A little pricy for drive in food, but overall love it!

Great prices for the amount of food you get. The food is all freshly made to order, with quality ingredients. It is a locally owned restaurant with great service. The food varies from a lobster roll to a chili cheese dog. A great place to take the family on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon. read more
