I am shocked. $63. For a rather small cake. Now to the cakes appearance and flavor. It came in a beautiful box. The card in top of the box explained the cake was refrigerated. When I removed thecake from the box I was speechless. It was covered in a plastic bag. The white chocolate and dark chocolate shavings looked awful. The white chocolate was actually yellow in color. Not at all appealing. We let the cake sit out for 3 hours before cutting into it. The cake itself was gummy. GUMMY! The milk chocolate center (poured into the middle hole in the cake) was so hard it couldn't be cut. The way it would crumble made me think it had been refrigerated for some time. Pound cake is my favorite. I'm certainly no picky eater though. My grandmother made a much larger "standard" pound cake which was named pound cake because it was extremely simple to make with a pound of sugar, flour, butter, and eggs. I think just vanilla after that. Janie sells a pound cake for near $40 that is much smaller than the standard version. Probably about 1/2 the size. Honestly, I don't get it. I don't get why people pay so much for a small simple cake. It's ok though too sweet to me. Much sweeter than any other pound cake I've had. Costco actually sells seasonally 3 mini pound cakes each weighing 1 pound that are pretty darn good for $7.99! Check out the reviews. I can tell Janine uses quality ingredients but just doesn't come together the way I prefer anyways. Shouldn't be so hard to find a classic pound cake and really they are easy to make but I'm lazy. Keep up the good work, quality and love that goes into your delicious goodies. Of all the bundt style cakes I've tried(including the popular chain one), I love this place the most. The cakes are better at room temperature and even better the next day. We tried the Italian, Java, lemon and carrot(my husband's favorite) cakes. Everything was on point ladies! I grew up in the south in a house that made from-scratch pound cakes regularly. And I judge the Janie's cake I was given as a gift to be nearly as good as those straight from the oven in my mom's kitchen. That's high praise. Mom never added frosting or filling (that's not the southern way), although butter was delicious atop a warm piece. However, the buttercream filling in Janie's complemented the cake wonderfully (maybe mom should have been more adventurous). And I loved the sugar bottom. Yum. One star gone because I did not care for the mini chocolate chips which coated the filling; I tried but was unable to pick them all out. I found that the rich chocolate interfered with, rather than added to, the other flavors. And, really, chocolate chips? It's hard to find good gluten free baked goods. The gluten free pound cake at Janie's is absolutely delicious. As another reviewer stated, it's even better at room temperature. It's a little disappointing that they are only available plain, when there are so many delicious varieties of the regular cakes. They do sell the toppings, which are gluten free... but I wonder why they can't customize the gluten free ones. Also, $32 for a small cake is a little steep. My fiance was a gem and had the Italian Jane Cake delivered to me for Valentine's day dessert. It was seriously the best pound cake I've ever had. I took one bite and new I was in trouble! Each piece was perfectly moist, sweet, and dense with just the right amount of fluff! The cream in the middle was dangerously good! SO good that I'm actually thankful there's not a location near Dallas! I ate it at room temperature and heated up. It was good at room temp but I highly recommend microwaving for just a few seconds, it changes everything! The cake is gone now and I may or may not have shed a tear during my last bite.
