Ordered a Plain Jane vanilla pound cake and the cake is wonderful. I will be ordering more cakes in the future.

For the past two years, i've ordered cakes to be sent to my daughter's house in Calif for Christmas. So many flavors. They love them all! My soon-to-be 17 year old grandson loves them so much that he requsted a "chocolate chip Janie's cake" for his birthday cake. From a pickey teenager, that's a huge compliment to Janie. All the cakes have been fresh and very flavorful. In the process of ordering his cake, i mistakenly put my home address (Texas) as the delivery address instead of my daughter's. Arlene at Janie's was responsive, helpful, and very accomodating to correct the error. Excellent customer service. Thanks, Arlene and Janies, for the delicious cakes and the excellent service. read more

Excellent cakes and professional customer service. I have been a fan of Janie's Cakes for over ten years while living in the Tyler area. Since moving out of state, I still order them for special occasions. The company goes above and beyond to ensure the cakes arrive in the freshest possible way, even resending an order if it gets too delayed. read more

Janie's Cakes - Bakeries Near Me - Tyler, Texas

Janie's Cakes deserves the highest rating available for its delicious cakes, and exceptional customer service. A few years ago, during the pandemic, I was looking for a special gift to send to my daughter. A search on the web for "special gifts" led me to "Oprah's Favorite Things," where the pound cake from Janie's Cake was highly recommended. I decided to give it a try, sent one to my daughter, and she loved it! Since then I've been ordering pound cakes from Janie's Cakes. They never disappoint. read more

I am shocked. $63. For a rather small cake. Now to the cakes appearance and flavor. It came in a beautiful box. The card in top of the box explained the cake was refrigerated. When I removed thecake from the box I was speechless. It was covered in a plastic bag. The white chocolate and dark chocolate shavings looked awful. The white chocolate was actually yellow in color. Not at all appealing. We let the cake sit out for 3 hours before cutting into it. The cake itself was gummy. GUMMY! The milk chocolate center (poured into the middle hole in the cake) was so hard it couldn't be cut. The way it would crumble made me think it had been refrigerated for some time. This was for a very special occasion. Normally,I would never spend so much on so small in size. Janie's cakes put a sour note on the festivities. read more

Janie's Cakes - NEVER AGAIN! - Bakeries Near Me - Tyler, Texas

Ordered a Celebration Baby Jane by Janie's Cake (Janie's cakes.com) through Gold Belly. The vanilla cake filled with buttercream frosting was dry and lacked flavor. It was a good thing that I had a 2nd cake available for my guests. read more

Locally owned, DELICIOUS pound cakes! We always send the Italian Jane and Plain Jane Pound Cakes to family and friends for special occasions or to lift loved ones spirits. These make the best gifts, too. Their beautiful yellow and white striped boxes with a blue ribbon put a smile on everyone's face. They make me happy just thinking about them. They also make the best biscotti! Buy two bags because they go fast. Some might say that they are a bit on the expensive side but I say it's absolutely worth it. You get what you pay for and you will love their cakes. read more

Pound cake is my favorite. I'm certainly no picky eater though. My grandmother made a much larger "standard" pound cake which was named pound cake because it was extremely simple to make with a pound of sugar, flour, butter, and eggs. I think just vanilla after that. Janie sells a pound cake for near $40 that is much smaller than the standard version. Probably about 1/2 the size. Honestly, I don't get it. I don't get why people pay so much for a small simple cake. It's ok though too sweet to me. Much sweeter than any other pound cake I've had. Costco actually sells seasonally 3 mini pound cakes each weighing 1 pound that are pretty darn good for $7.99! Check out the reviews. I can tell Janine uses quality ingredients but just doesn't come together the way I prefer anyways. Shouldn't be so hard to find a classic pound cake and really they are easy to make but I'm lazy. The price Janine ask makes me feel ripped off to be honest. I know she isn't getting rich by any means but near $55 to have it shipped to your home? I sure miss miss my Granny's version. read more

Larry and I love these cakes. So yummy with tons of filling flavor. If you want simple delicious dessert this is the go to. Convenient pickup at Fresh, However I like to pick it up at the shop. I always buy more than I need so good. read more

I was in Tyler visiting my family when my cousin brought me here. All I can say is that ya'll have something special going on here. Keep up the good work, quality and love that goes into your delicious goodies. Of all the bundt style cakes I've tried(including the popular chain one), I love this place the most. The cakes are better at room temperature and even better the next day. We tried the Italian, Java, lemon and carrot(my husband's favorite) cakes. Everything was on point ladies! My husband's only complaint was that he wanted more carrots in the carrot cake. Next time we're in Tyler we'll be sure to stop by. Also, we appreciate the service. Nice people. Love and thanks from San Diego, California! read more

I grew up in the south in a house that made from-scratch pound cakes regularly. And I judge the Janie's cake I was given as a gift to be nearly as good as those straight from the oven in my mom's kitchen. That's high praise. Mom never added frosting or filling (that's not the southern way), although butter was delicious atop a warm piece. However, the buttercream filling in Janie's complemented the cake wonderfully (maybe mom should have been more adventurous). And I loved the sugar bottom. Yum. One star gone because I did not care for the mini chocolate chips which coated the filling; I tried but was unable to pick them all out. I found that the rich chocolate interfered with, rather than added to, the other flavors. And, really, chocolate chips? I would order a Janie's cake only if I could customize it: No chocolate chips please. read more

It's hard to find good gluten free baked goods. The gluten free pound cake at Janie's is absolutely delicious. As another reviewer stated, it's even better at room temperature. It's a little disappointing that they are only available plain, when there are so many delicious varieties of the regular cakes. They do sell the toppings, which are gluten free... but I wonder why they can't customize the gluten free ones. Also, $32 for a small cake is a little steep. But if you're willing to pay, you won't be disappointed. read more

My fiance was a gem and had the Italian Jane Cake delivered to me for Valentine's day dessert. It was seriously the best pound cake I've ever had. I took one bite and new I was in trouble! Each piece was perfectly moist, sweet, and dense with just the right amount of fluff! The cream in the middle was dangerously good! SO good that I'm actually thankful there's not a location near Dallas! I ate it at room temperature and heated up. It was good at room temp but I highly recommend microwaving for just a few seconds, it changes everything! The cake is gone now and I may or may not have shed a tear during my last bite. If you think I'm being overdramatic, try it out and you'll understand. I can't wait to find another excuse to order this cake for someone else! read more

I LOVE POUND CAKE If central market made a commercial like this www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOA_gfOjl1k for pound cake I would answer yes yes yes When I take that first bite it takes me back to being a kid I can eat it every day morning, noon, and night If I was on death row and the offered me a last meal I would chose a big o pound cake Now I do prefer the cake to be made the day before, for some reason I think pound cakes taste better the next day. It marinates or ages or just does magic, I do not know what you call it but it taste better to me. I also like plain pound cake the most, I think some things can stand alone without help and good pound cake can OK OK OK back to Janie's I was looking up where to buy pound cake and found Janie's and called and found out they were only open Monday through Friday , what buzz kill, after calling back the second time I found out they drop off cakes twice a week at freshbybrookshires.com buzz back on So we headed headed out on a Saturday and had lunch at stanleysfamous.com you got to try this place also When we got to Fresh they were having a vendor day, so a bunch of the vendors were there handing out samples and Janie and her daughter were there handing out samples BONUS. Try it before I buy it , my favorite I choose the Plain Jane of course, and it was good. I believe she or they or whoever does the baking dust the pan with sugar before pouring in the badder, because the outside had a nice sugar flavor outer layer The one thing I would ask to change is , less packaging and more cake. If you look at my pics the cake is in a bag then another bag and then last a child proof box. The cake was a bit to small for me, I think most people would rather have more of the cake and less of the fancy packaging, now I know the packaging is for the shipping because it is shipped frozen but a plan white box would be ok with with me read more

Janie's Cakes - just to give a idea of the large size - Bakeries Near Me - Tyler, Texas

Indubitably the best pound cake you will ever eat. Better than your mom's. Better than your grandma's. Better than the lady who sells it for $10 at the church bake sale. The BEST! I know the Clapp family and still remember the first cake I ever ate made by Janie... it was for her daughter's (my classmate's) birthday party and it was shaped like a calf and made of pound cake. The best pound cake. Moist, buttery, dense, yet with a strange lightness that delightfully allows you to devour multiple pieces at a time. Now, Janie's sold the recipe and company, but the cake remains at its delicious best. For Janie's cake virgins, start with the plain pound cake, which will send you into a sugar frenzy of purest joy. Then, move up to the filled cakes, in which regular Bundt-pan pound cakes have been de-holed with chocolate icing, lemon curd, or other sugary decadence. If you're lucky enough to have been given one as a gift, please, for the love of God, make sure you eat at least one piece that's been microwaved for a couple seconds. Prepare to be astounded. read more

I have tasted the cake at the new Whole Foods here in Allen/Fairview. Hope to buy one in the future. The rep was out on a Sataurday handing out samples, and mentioned that company was from San Francisco, so to see that they have a cake store in Tyler(it has got to be the same company?) read more

I purchased three mini cakes and my coworker purchased two mini cakes of various flavors. All five were dry in comparison to say other famous bundt cake businesses or even cupcakes. The flavor was not up to par either. I was expecting something fabulous and got less then mediocre for $6 per cake. Perhaps the cakes were two day old cakes, but even cake I make out of a box sitting on the counter for two days had more flavor and moisture than Janie's Cakes. read more

Cake without flavor. All the flavors taste like a sugar cookie and surprisingly you will bite down on suger when you get down to the bottom of the cake. Java Jane taste like caramel pop corn. read more

I just received one of their cakes as a gift. It was the vanilla pond cake. It was the worst pound cake I have ever had. It was like it wasn't baked enough. It was so wet. It was like eating uncooked batter. So much sugar. That's all you taste! I can't say anything to the person who sent it. I don't want to hurt their feelings. Never again!! read more

I gave the cake as a gift I think he was very impressed at one before it was very delicious

I received one of these for Christmas 2010. I was so excited to finally have one. When I took it out of the box and unwrapped it, it looked great. Then I tasted it. I had to look again to make sure this was the cake I had been so excited about. The cake was dry, tasted bland and was basically inedible. I was so disappointed. I threw most of it outside for the birds. read more

Fantastic pound cake! I love the original but you can't go wrong here. They have a new location too.

Janie makes an awesome pound cake. My personal favorite is the Italian. Yeah, they are on the expensive side, but you get immaculate packaging/presentation that makes it a stress free and east $30 gift for someone. Support your local business. read more

These are some of the most amazing cakes ever. My favorite is the Italian Jane but they are all incredible. If you live here or are passing through stop by and get something because all the cakes ship out next day air if you have to order them online and that adds another $20 to your total. read more

Perfectly yummy and a great gift. My family has come to expect that when I come visit I will bring a Janie's cake with one of their delicious sauces or fillings. read more

The "Plain Jane" was sad. Pale yellow, gummy, coarse crumb, and heavy, not dense. Anyone who was raised on moist, dense, fine crumb, home made pound cake would leave this one on the plate. I know I did. Oprah has been away from home for too long. She definitely got this one wrong. Yuck! read more

Saucy Jane is my favorite. Any cake you get is outta this world good. Like that they serve samples of the different cakes. Love giving as gifts. Packaging is perfect! read more

Yummy - yummy and more yummy!! A great idea in the wake of the proliferation of cupcake bakeries all over. I love the mini's. My husband loves Italian Cream. I try to avoid heavy carbs but these mini's are a special occasion treat for me and yes I enjoyed thoroughly for my bday last week. I look forward to going there again. read more

Disappointed! Saw the cake as part of Oprah's favorite things and ordered 2 cakes pound cake and marble cake for thanksgiving. Order arrived a day early. I put the cakes in the fridge and brought them out a few hours before dinner. Cake was dry and did not live up to the hype. None of my guests liked either of the cakes. From the reviews it seems like buying in store is of higher quality than ordering online. I would not be ordering the cakes online again! read more

Ordered two cakes for our office (one chocolate chip and one pecan) and everyone loved them! I didn't notice that it was dry. As the website promises, it came shipped to us frozen. We let it cool down in the fridge and then took it out 2 hours before serving to get it to room temperature. Will definitely order again. read more

I ordered a cake and my total came out to $36. A few days later one of Janis's employees calls me and asked for an additional $19 more because she said their website glitches and didn't charge me for shipping. I didn't know it was going to cost $19 to ship a cake. If I knew the total price was going to be $55 for a cake I would have passed. I smell a scam. read more

This is the best cake in existence, hands down. The plain is absolutely perfect and tastes like a sugar cookie but in cake form. Imagine you're at the gates of Heaven and an angel beckons you forth to lay your head on his wing. That's what this cake tastes like. I don't see how anyone could rate this as less than 5 stars, but I guess we all have different tastes. And don't get me started on how beautifully it's wrapped! read more

So impressed with the service! I ordered a cake to be sent to a friend in MS and I'm in CO. I was confused by some of the verbiage on the order confirmation, so I sent them an email. Always fresh!! My favorite in Tyler! Prompt service. The Tart Jane is the best! Can't beat lemon and white chocolate!

I was in town visiting family and stopped by to get some of the cakes that my mom had told me about. I bought two of the small ones of every kind, some were for gifts, and the lemon curd as well. Everything was fantastic! I'm ordering more online today and will definitely stop by again when I'm in town! read more

I was given a cake as a gift and have since given several as gifts and purchased several for my own special occasions. I've never been disappointed! They are delicious-several different toppings-always fresh. They are a little pricey, but well worth it. Look for Oprah's review in her November magazine-this place is listed as one of her favorites.
