We had the pleasure of meeting Janices granddaughter Tia in person who waited on us and we took the opportunity to let her know how pleased we were with the service we get in the restaurant and the quality of the food compared to the other restaurants we've been to in the area. We were staying in the area for a quick vacation and I was craving some comfort food, because when in the south, that's what I want. This was super close to our cabin, so we decided to give it a go. It was okay. It was not very accommodating to COVID at all, sure the waitresses were wearing masks, but no social distancing at all. We shoved ourselves in a tiny corner to stay away from people, but then we were almost forgotten about. Service was okay, the waitress wasn't very personable and mostly left us on our own. The prices were great for the amount of food you got, but it was definitely all frozen/out of boxes and cans, nothing tasted homemade. My fried chicken actually came out still cold in the middle - they took it in back and just tossed the piece I had taken a bite out of right back in the fryer to finish cooking it, which was very concerning. I've had some good comfort food in our travels, this wasn't it. I had high hopes considering it was a small town and I figured they did things right, but since there's not a lot of local competition, I imagine they know they don't have to be top notch. I don't want to be harsh, but unfortunately this place is going to have to get that. Read some google reviews and this place was on the way to our destination. Let me lay out what went wrong here... Walked in and we sat ourselves. It took them a really long time to bring us menus and grab coffee order, even longer to finally come and take our order. While we were there the bathroom apparently overflowed. I watched countless women walk that way only to be turned away in disappointment at the sign on the door. When our food finally came it was to be quite honest cold. Cold eggs, cold biscuits and gravy, cold grits, cold hash browns.... the list goes on. It was super disappointing. Coffee refills are dismal. My friend asked for an extra butter and it took a really long time. I am giving it 2 stars because I think that people might enjoy the fabulous looking cakes they had on display. read more

My family and I are visiting from VA. This is definitely a hidden gem. I got a plain cheese burger with Mac and cheese and the burger was amazing. The bun was buttered and toasted just right and the party was cooked perfectly. My sister got the Mozzarella cheese sticks and Mac and cheese and she give it a 9/10. My mom got the chicken casserole with mashed potatoes and gravy as well as green beans and she gave it 8/10. My dad got the Fried Flounder with cole slaw and onion rings and he gave it a 9/10. I was in search for a place where I could get a homemade-like breakfast and this place hit the spot. Good customer service and a cute little place. My parents each had an omelet and I had a traditional breakfast with pork tenderloin. Everything was very good! The biscuits and gravy were also tasty. You cannot beat the price of these dishes! I called in a to go order and the lady that answered the phone wasn't very pleasant !! She yelled into the phone at me and I felt like I was a bother to her. Isn't her job to help the customers with their order ? Well forgive me for asking what sides they had to offer forgive me for saying I'd like a big cheese burger! She said I don't know what your talking about very RUDELY!! Not the kind of service I'd exspect from a down home country Restraunt! Maybe Janice is short of the help? That's no the way you answer the phone nor is that the way you talk to a paying customer. What ever happened to people being friendly? This place looks exactly like you would expect for a typical home cooking restaurant, inside and out. Seems pretty well kept and clean, although far from immaculate. "Cash only" is a bit of a pain, but whatever. Rear seating annex area is a lot nicer than the front section, which is likely the original room...the rear probably being an expansion at some point. Wait staff are pretty quick to take your order. We were greeted as soon as we sat down to take our drink orders. Food actually arriving is a bit on the slow side however, as is follow-up visits. I am not saying you are on your own once you get the food, but in our case it took a lot of attempts to get the server's attention. The only refills came when we were basically finished eating. The food itself was decent. I would call it a notch above say, buffet. I wish it would have been a bit better, but to be fair I've recently attended a few similar places that were absolutely phenomenal. I guess that's what Yelp is for. The lesson here is I doubt anyone would ever be unhappy with this place, but don't expect to be "wowed" either. Oh...pricing is decent and the perfectly rounded off amounts is a nice touch (for example $6.00, 7.00, etc). All in all, check this place out if it is on your way back from say Asheville or Gatlinburg, but it's probably doesn't warrant a solo trip. read more

This is nothing more than a basic diner. If you're looking for simple, most definitely go there. You can tell it's where the locals go, everyone turned and stared at us when we walked in which was uncomfortable haha.. My husband said their grits were lumpy and watery but he loved their bologna, cheese biscuit sandwich. I got the eggs, sausage with homefries and a side of biscuits and gravy. The homefries and gravy were peppery which was in my opinion good. Eggs were rubbery, couldn't finish them. Biscuits were very good as well. I went for breakfast and I had ham, scrambled eggs and hash brown. The coffee tasted great. The only thing that was over cooked and burned crispy was the hash brown. We were a group of 5. Three adults and two children. Stopped in for lunch. Appearance/cleanliness- simple place, not bad. The annoying flies were a nuisance but not their fault, they sneak in. Service- took order, brought food, forgotten Food - 3 burgers were very thin and overcooked (kids called them crispy) fries were good. Country fried steak was fine (nothing to write home about) cornbread very dry. Philly steak and onion rings were ok. Price- pricing was very cheap. Passed by the little gem a lot and never stopped. We decided to make the trip just to eat here and was really surprised. Don't let the looks from the outside scare you. It looks like a ran down building but the inside is nicely finished and looks like a old log cabin. We had a Party of five. Two of us got Hamburger steaks, cheeseburger and wedges, open face roast beef platter and a huge salad with beef stew and a bologna sandwich. The hamburger steak was fresh patties I got mashed potatoes and a side salad. Other had MAC and cheese with fries. The roast beef wasn't the best, it tasted like it was just roast that was sliced at Walmart. But the salad and beef stew was great. read more

There were absolutely no precautions in regards to COVID protection. No workers wore any sort of mask, they didn't wipe down the tables between customers, food was cold. All food was frozen/out of boxes. Nothing "homemade" at all. You can literally see the extra moist cake boxes in the kitchen from the dining area. If I could give negative stars, I would.
