If you are traveling on I-75 and looking for a place to eat, The Local is certainly worth the several minutes detour. It is Americana at it best; excellent food served quickly by a friendly wait staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the gulf shrimp cook just right where cocktail sauce wasn't needed along with a double helping of okra fried to perfection. The portions are generous sizes so it's not unusual for customers to walk out with doggy bags, as my wife did. read more

The Local has certainly changed, and mostly in a good way. Be warned: if you look at the menu posted online, it's completely different, and prices are about double. The burger that used to be just under $8.00 is now $15.00, as are most items on the menu. I don't have a problem with the prices, but many people around here will, especially because it's so different than what is posted online. Management, update the online menu! Don't mislead potential customers. The quality of the food has greatly improved since the last time I was there, and there many more healthy choices. Our server (sorry I don't remember her name), was friendly and attentive. I had the burger, which was solid. My husband had a protein bowl with chicken and quinoa, and he enjoyed it. we had gotten the chicken livers on a previous visit and they were horrible. Very over cooked and hard. Someone had gotten them that sat behind us today and they looked pretty good. We told the waitress about our prior exp and asked were they better now. We decided to try them again , asking the waitress that they be fried lightly. She said okay. When the chicken livers came and they were just as bad as before. Cole slaw very dry. Ordered cornbread, waitress brought rolls. What happened to this place? The worst experience. Ordered bacon cheeseburger with fries and a coke. The burger itself was 7.85 fries $3 and a $3 drink. I was charged $21.85!!!!! That's without zero tip for to go. Myself and my coworkers will not be giving them business any longer. read more

We decided to try it about 3 mos ago. It was delicious, and staff very friendly. We went again a week ago today, and it was excellent again. Our server was so incredibly helpful and nice. The food was excellent. The restaurant is clean and so welcoming.

Normally our meals have been good at this restaurant. It's a friendly atmosphere. Just what we normally enjoy! That's the only reason for the 3 stars, or it would be 1. However... A friend took us out for a steak dinner after my surgery. My husband ordered the steak. It was the WORST steak ever! Fatty, grisly, and no flavour. There was so much grisl, there was almost no meat. We didn't have a chance to say anything to management at the time. I am surprised the server didn't notice ALL of the cut off, wasted meat parts from the steak. She was young. That accounts for some things. Since that visit, we have explained the situation. "Just tell us next time", was the response. We probably will not order a steak from here again. I've only eaten here twice since it opened as The Local. I have to say both times were pretty good. I was really expecting your typical frozen food ordered from some company. But I was impressed. The 2nd time I got the Country Fried Steak which they call beef steak I believe. I was honestly expecting a frozen patty but it was actually a hand bread and seasoned beef steak. It was really good. As long as it remains consistent unlike a lot of country diners then it should do fine in LaFollette. read more
