One of the 50 Korean BBQ places in the area but I would have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my night here. Only a small entrance and it can be hard to miss, the restaurant is out the back and quite large considering the entry. Ok... so apparently speaking English is not a big thing here but I loved that about this place , it was like a little adventure and delving into the unknown. We had a group of four so we ordered pork belly, beef ribs in soy sauce, mixed mushrooms, and chilli chicken. We were very new to the whole BBQ thing so the waiter was more than helpful and had a laugh at our inexperience. I would defiantly recommend this place and the whole BBQ experience. The food was great! The BBQ comes with lots of traditional sides and you can ask for more if you are hungry like we were. It cost us about $46 each. They have Korean drinks but BYO is accepted and no corkage. Great food and company!

    Best ribs!

Love this place! Great Korean BBQ house, and the meat is top quality including Wagyu. Options to dine inside, which is probably more for couples or families, and out the back of the restaurant, which is for smokers and larger groups. It can get noisy out there :) You can browse the menu for a range of great meals, with unlimited side dishes, but you have to try, at least once, the house rib specialty. It's not cheap, but it's not cheap food either!

I'm just going to go on record and say that the Korean BBQ in Sydney CBD, including Sydney Madang has NOTHING on Jang Ta Bal. If you want the best Korean BBQ Sydney has to offer you have to go to Strathfield. Came here with a group of 8 on a Saturday night and rocked up without a booking and we were promptly seated. Fortunately we came when we did, because it got super packed shortly thereafter. The banchan came out shortly after, we were served potato salad, kimchi (one of the better ones I've had in Sydney,) greens, and raw crab legs in chilli sauce. On top of busting out the charcoal for BBQ (legit,) I have NEVER seen raw crab legs served for banchan, so you know this place is legit. We ordered two beef sets and a mixed beef+pork set that had pork belly. We also ordered some beer and soju. The meat here is top notch, especially the kalbi...oh sweet heavenly kalbi. If you're a sucker for punishment, you should come here and specifically NOT order the kalbi...because you'd be making yourself miss out on something great, and that's one way to make yourself feel bad. It was so good we ordered 2 orders of kalbi on top of our beef set orders. The damage for 8 people with 3 meat sets and two extra orders of kalbi, plus 8 beers and 5 bottles of soju was $33 a person. Freaking sweet. Go. Now.

Well I've been to some Korean BBQ, but nothing prepared me for what I was about to encounter in Jang Ta Bal. The entrance was a 'blink and you'll miss it' door followed by a corridor with pictures on the wall which leads to the world of Jang Ta Bal and you can see why this has become a lot of people's favourite Korean BBQ including myself. Nab a table and sit on pillows for a traditional experience. The usual table and benches also available for those who value convenience over authentic experience. Sides like pickled onion, pickled radish, kimchi, lettuce, mashed potatoes, green onions and spicy raw crab (yep, you heard me, it's raw!) came seconds after we placed our order. A small bottle of sesame oil and a bowl of seasoning with empty sauce bowls provided at the table, a plus in my book as I hate to always ask for more oil and seasoning in other Korean BBQ. The meat menu is extensive and at reasonable price. Any meat you choose you know you'll get a great quality meat. Service is quick and staff are always ready to change your BBQ plate. Definitely worth a visit if you ask me!

I usually prefer my beef medium rare, but it got mixed with the pork, so everything got cooked well done. If my beef was cooked medium rare, this would probably be a 5 star review. Sirloin Beef $39 AUD - Beautifully marbled. Marinated Beef Ribs $36AUD - This was good and had generous meat. We ordered too much meat, but amazingly we finished it all, so it had to have been really good. Cheese Corn Side Dish - Okay, too cheesy for me. I bet very few people say that, lol. Tofu Side Dish - I am not a tofu or soup person, so I did not try. They have both Korean and Australian beers, thank you. I chose to drink the local beers, as the Korean brand beers were the same as the U.S. Support locals. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Indoor/outdoor seating were very limited. Semi-open kitchen, see picture. You will be crammed in to maximize space. Open 7 days a week from 11am to 10:30pm. Not sure if they have bathrooms; sorry I can not remember and I did not take a picture. Service - Full service. They actually cook the food for you at your table. Both the owner and waiter cooked for us. I really appreciated that. But I am also sure they do that to turn the tables faster, good business practice. Win/win. Price - See menu, Korean foods are always a little on the expensive side, but when you take into consideration the current US exchange rate, it was a sale for us. :) Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

Make sure to get there before 7pm as it does get very busy. If you have a big group you can make a reservation, but also we were able to ask one of the staff and they organized more chairs and joined tables for us. All the chicken is good, tender long is probably my favorite, sweet+spicy is also up there. But at the same time I always order a variety. Also warning, the hot+spicy is _very_ hot and spicy, but it is still tasty :) There is more than just chicken, plus it looked like there was small selection of vegetarian options. Price-wise, the chicken feels a little expensive. The price range was ~$17 for a half service and ~$32 for a full serve. Drinks are fairly cheap, they had various beer bucket deals, 5x$20 Coors, 4x$20 Crown Lager, they also had a few good beers and kopparberg on tap (around $5-6), plus everything else you would usually find in a standard RSL-type bar (spirits, beer jugs, etc). It is quite kid friendly, they have high-chairs and a playground around the side. Plus space around the tables to squeeze in a pram/stroller. There is a small parking lot around the back plus street parking. But it fills up pretty quickly.

When I moved to Sydney, I…read moreheard all about Strathfield and was excited that this seemed to be the closest thing to Koreatown back in LA. I came out here on a Tuesday for lunch after seeing raves about Hansang all over TikTok, but I was mostly let down by the food quality. For my first time in Strathfield, it didn't leave an impression on me and left me wanting ... better Korean food. I got the seafood tofu stew and was extremely disappointed by the flavors in it. The picture on the menu, which was loaded with seafood, looked nothing like the reality of the stew-- which honestly wouldn't have been a problem if the flavors didn't feel so off to me. Upon first spoonful, you just get hit with the taste of garlic (which is odd to me because I love tofu stew but never notice the garlic flavor of the ones I get back in LA's Koreatown). Flavors were forgettable and the soup was simply bland with a side of garlic. If you're used to BCD Tofu House quality stew, forget it. You're better off ordering something else from the menu-- although my friend also remarked her soup was nothing special either. I wouldn't have left a review like this if it weren't for the prices. As soon as I opened the menu, I noticed that a lot of the stew/soup/dishes were similar prices. That might not seem odd to some, but as someone that grew up around authentic Korean food, I can tell you you're being scammed. There is no world in which you should be paying $20+ for a kimchi pancake (even in AUD). Sullungtang was also extremely overpriced for what it is. Charging for extra side dishes, too? Crazy. Take your money elsewhere. I refuse to believe this is the most authentic Korean food you will find in Sydney's proclaimed Koreatown.

Don't let the entry fool you, you'll have to take the elevator up to the second floor to access this restaurant. While you progress to your table you'll pass by a showcase of varied meats a lot of which is Wagyu! The displays were clean and well organized surely to amp up your appetite. In a glass room you'll notice one of the chefs operating a meat slicer as the meat is cut fresh upon ordering. As I'm sure some of you Korean BBQ fanatics have experienced some restaurants have pre portioned frozen meats. Don't skimp out on this restaurant, the food quality is high so make the most of it! While honeymooning in Sydney my wife and I were on the hunt for "Yangnyeom Gejang". Neither my wife nor I are Korean but "Yangnyeom Gejang" is Spicy Marinated Raw Crab. The banchan was superb and you'll be offered a variety of side dishes to accompany your meal. Aside from the raw crab we ordered Wagyu Beef Tongue, Galbi, and Pork belly! All of which satisfied us and we were well satiated! Whether you're just visiting or a local resident I HIGHLY recommend Jang Ta Bal for your next Korean BBQ venture!
