    banchan w/ a couple meats
    Eli G.

Slightly expensive (but everything in Australia is) non-AYCE KBBQ. Tucked away off the main road, this spot was packed with meat smoke and Koreans, always a good sign. We ordered a couple meats and sides; http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/sydney-madang-sydney?select=Tm1Uk5cZdvpdQbuEQ9disQ#Tm1Uk5cZdvpdQbuEQ9disQ Not bad but not amazing for the price. Probably worth it when the US dollar was stronger back in 2008-2009, but not now. Small assortment of banchan as well, I always prefer to have a dozen or so different snacks with my meat. Oh well, I wasn't expecting much.

THIS PLACE ROCKS!!!! On my last day in Sydney my friend made a reservation to Sydney Madang. Now, do not get me wrong, I am not one to go and pay a restaurant to have them make ME cook my dinner (I'd rather stay home). BUT I have to say Sydney Madang has change my perspective on this. As soon as we walk in, we were seated at our table with menus. We all agreed to have one person place the order and besides that, he knew what to order (we had NO CLUE what to get..everything looked good but we couldn't even pronounce the names of the dishes! Americans.. lol). The appetizers, sides and raw meat arrived at our table quickly and if we needed anything we were able to use a button located at the corner of the table for additional assistance. The service was quick and attentive and food was fresh. It was a spectacular ending to an unforgettable trip. Happy Eats Everybody.

What bad service! Rang there table bell at least 4 times, waved at staff and ignored,we waited at least 5-10 minutes and we almost had to grab staff! Food wise it's nice, the seafood pancake was more batter than substance, dumplings average but the BBQ meat was delicious! Prices are on par compared to other similar places My friends feel I am generous giving this score

I went in to order food for me and my 18 cousins and 6 kids, and instead of being kind and greeting me with a smile, The employee working at the front counter hid behind the front counter and started crying and screaming profanities. After I ordered my food, it took them a whole 2 MINUTES to make my food and give it to me which is completely unacceptable. I am certain I was overcharged because the bill came up to $372.67, but according to my calculations the bill should have only been $320. There were not enough chairs in the lobby, so I asked for them to go buy chairs from IKEA to accommodate my family, however, they looked at me like" I was insane and said "Absolutely not, you can sit on the ground" After opening my take away I realised it was full of 15 sachets of soy sauce??? I went to complain but the employees jumped out the windows and ran away. Once they came back I asked for the number to complain about them. I later found out they gave me the number to a local soccer club

We waited 10 minutes for a table for 2, at 8pm. This place is quite value-for-money, with lots of banchan (fresh kimchi!!!), a very thin and crispy seafood pancake (best I have ever eaten), kimcho soup (okay), beef short ribs and pork belly for table barbecue, washed down with a bottle of makgeolli. Regrettably, they don't make their own makgeolli. The seafood pancake really surprised me. The batter to filling ration was about 2:3, and it was fried so well every bite was a crunch. Delish! The barbecue meats were tasty and fresh, and our banchan was refilled constantly. I would return.

Humble looking enough but bold inside.

My wife and I finally agreed on something. ... Madang's is the best Korean restaurant we've eaten at outside of Korea. And we've been eating together for nearly 30 years. Ordered sweet and sour pork and it came to our table just as delicious as the stuff that the guy on the moped brought to us in Korea. I'm talking really good food here. We knew we had a winner when we tasted their kimchee. The cabbage and radish was excellent!!! Wife ordered soup and that was also a home run. ... $31 (AU) for two dishes and really good sides was well worth it. Highly recommended and it will go on our "favorite place in the world" list.

Seafood pancake - the bomb! Must try.

*The review is on a la carte menu, not BBQ. The competition amongst Korean restaurants is fierce along Pitt Street, Sydney's Koreantown. To me, there has never been any doubt as to who the winner is. There is only one name, the one that every foodie and every Korean in town knows all too well... Madang. It has been my one and only favourite Korean since I first visited it 10 years ago. Must try: seafood pancake, jabchae (stir-fried potato noodles), crispy rice pot.

3.5 stars for this. Once you step in, you will not feel like you are in downtown Sydney. There's indoor and 'outdoor' seating - regardless of where you sat, the place is airy so I didn't leave smelling of BBQ meat. Must have the seafood pancake and the short rib beef. Wash it all down with some soju and I was super happy after that

Soo Tufo with no seafood (forgot to put it in) and with no taste. Enjoy.

As a Korean food lover, I was really excited to go to the so called best Korean restaurant in Sydney. First things first. They don't speak English. That is very hard because they had no clue what we were trying to order. As a result. They forgot one dish and they came with the wrong dish. Not good. Number two. I went for soo tufo. My favourite Korean dish. When I asked for mild spicy and a raw egg on the side the manager came and said that he will do it for one time but that the chef does not like to do that. Are you serious?? Who is going to eat?? Me or the chef??? I ordered one vegetarian and one with seafood. They came with two vegetarian. How nice is that??? Number three. The waiter came to tell us that that was not enough food. He kept on pushing us and telling us that we had to order more. So we did order a bimba dish. The result? We didn't finish even half of our dish. The taste of it all was much less than we expected. I don t think we'll ever go back to them. Even if the food is not good, the service and friendliness should be excellent. And it was not.

I am pretty disappointed after reading all the good reviews about this place. The marinate for the gal bi was good, perhaps on the strong side... (Seorae in HK and Honey Pig in Baltimore remains to be my all time favorite for Korean BBQ.) The service, however, was the deal breaker. They got our orders mixed up but not a word of apology offered (when it was clear the server made the mistake...) The place was not very busy and were sufficiently staffed but they were painfully slow and not very efficient! I asked for some spoons for my bibimbap and the server heard me but he literally went away and ignore us. I had to get another server to get it. I figured it used to be a popular place by the reviews but I don't think I would return.

My last name says it all...I have Korean in me. So people expect me to know everything there is about Korean food considering its current popularity, but unfortunately no. I don't order exotic dishes, just the ones I love but what I can maybe offer is a yay or nay on whether the food tastes authentic. And Sydney Madang is pretty authentic and ok for a city joint. Although I've noticed new ones popping up in "Korea town" on Pitt St near World Square and surrounds. All the favourites are pretty good (note the words here are my special phonetic interpretations lol): Jap chae (vermicelli noodles), pu-chi-gae (pancakes) which you can order with seafood, bul-go-gi (bbq marinated beef), bibimbap (rice mixed with veggies, meat and you can add chilli) and the hot pots. Note, some of the hot pots contain intestines etc, so take care when ordering if you don't like internal organs in your food ;) However, if I really wanted my Korean fix, I would rather take the trip to Strathfield, Eastwood or Campsie. Much better Korean restaurants out there but Sydney Madang will do if I'm in the city. Btw, the wait can be pretty bad in the back alley in which its located, but the young Korean crowd doesn't seem to mind. I kinda recommend ;)

Amazing. Probably the best Korean restaurant experience I've ever had. The service was spectacular, side dishes were amazing, and food was spot on. However, this place is extremely popular so please make a reservation! Side dishes were so good I had like 4ths on some of them. These sides make or break a restaurant and it definitely proved favorable for Madang. Seafood Pancake - AMAZING. Best seafood pancake I've ever had. The sauce was so delicious and the pancake itself was hot, fresh, and crispy. Oxtail/Oxbone Soup - So tasty. The meat was falling off the bone, and the soup was nice and light as it's supposed to be. They let you season with salt so you can just to your preference accordingly! Bugolgi meat - Seasoned very well and tasted awesome with a bowl of rice. A staple to the Korean cuisine done right. Again, an amazing experience. Please check this place out if you get the chance! :)

One of the best Korean BBQs in Sydney! Tucked away in a little alleyway on Pitt St, it's very hard to find, but worth the effort. You must try the thin beef skirt, and boneless marinated beef ribs. The little side dishes that accompany the meal are also perfect! Free refills :)

While you progress to your table you'll pass by a showcase of varied meats a lot of which is Wagyu! The displays were clean and well organized surely to amp up your appetite. In a glass room you'll notice one of the chefs operating a meat slicer as the meat is cut fresh upon ordering. As I'm sure some of you Korean BBQ fanatics have experienced some restaurants have pre portioned frozen meats. Don't skimp out on this restaurant, the food quality is high so make the most of it! While honeymooning in Sydney my wife and I were on the hunt for "Yangnyeom Gejang". Neither my wife nor I are Korean but "Yangnyeom Gejang" is Spicy Marinated Raw Crab. If you've never tried it and are open minded seriously give it a try as its not readily available. The crab dish was extremely well portioned and makes for a great side dish/appetizer. The banchan was superb and you'll be offered a variety of side dishes to accompany your meal. Aside from the raw crab we ordered Wagyu Beef Tongue, Galbi, and Pork belly! All of which satisfied us and we were well satiated! Whether you're just visiting or a local resident I HIGHLY recommend Jang Ta Bal for your next Korean BBQ venture!

It's a name that strikes fear into the heart of the enemy as you imagine Dukbaegi and the 46 other ronin charging furiously into battle screaming a chilling war cry... but... this is neither feudal Japan nor a blockbuster movie starring that bloke from Bill 'n' Ted's. It is, however, a relatively new and very good Korean BBQ restaurant. I had to ask fellow yelpers where I ate because this place needs a branding lesson (as in molten metal on cowhide). The menu doesn't have the name on it, instead you get a double dose of discombobulation as Korean characters co-mingle with the English words "Korean table", which just confuses the bejeezus outta me. In fact you'd be so hard pressed to find this place that I doubt anyone will ever see this review because they won't be looking for Dukbaegi. Hopefully my search engine prowess doesn't fail me now, and by entering the keyword *Makanai* which is the restaurant next door, we should see this result rise like cream to the top. So how was the food? It was delish, fresh and hot (temperature not spicy). The positives were the serving size and the sides - which consisted of little potato fritters, mini-mash, and miso soup. The downside was that it took a long time for food to come out despite the place being relatively empty. I had the BBQ Chilli Pork Hotpot and it was super tasty. It easily filled me up and I enjoyed every mouthful.

The soup was spicy and very flavoursome. My only complaint would be the chopsticks. Why do Koreans insist on using metal flat chopsticks? It makes it very difficult to use, especially with noodles.
