Transformed from a Taiwanese dessert place to something I've missed to Korean, this corner of Chatsfield (my naming convention for the Westfields) is either a goldmine that sees hospitality businesses close as soon as the owners made enough dough, or it's not such a great place after all - especially given Westfield's predatory grip on anything that's non-supermarket.
For a regular to Chatswood however it means that there's something new to try every once in a while. Dukbaegi's interiors are stylishly between modern and traditional Korean - in a good, comfy way! Staff is very attentive and friendly. Kids get their own themed crockery and cutlery. High-chairs included (in case parents read this).
Their dishes are Korean classics: Kimbap (sushi rolls), Mandu (gyoza), Bibimbap (no translation necessary here, even my phone knows this word), BBQ hotpot rice, BBQ noodles --are you drooling by now?-- Kalguksu (wheat flour noodles) and a range of other hotpots, in trend colours chilli and normal. Many dishes also come with "seasonal side dishes", such as potato or seaweed salad.
I liked their attention and their home cooked style dishes. Very tasty and generous portions. You won't go home hungry or wanting something else.
With prices generally between $11.50 and $14 you're not ripped off either. Let's hope those greedy hands of shopping centre owners don't make this place go the way of the dodo too. read more
