Super cute cafe with yummy drinks and ample pastries. i loved the chill, wooden interior vibe and music. outlets are limited though so beware
Came here since it's a cafe that's open late, and it was a vibe! People kept coming and going, even at late, but it was never truly full thankfully. My matcha came out fairly quickly. It was pretty tasty too, even though it did feel like strawberry jam at the bottom. Still good and did its job.
I'm jealous that VCU has such a great late night spot (open until 2 AM every day!) right by it! My brother and I needed coffee on our late night road trip back to DC and this was the only local small business open after midnight. When we walked in, there were a few groups inside and it made me happy (and nostalgic) to see. Drinks are BOGO half off during Ramadan, which was a nice surprise. My brother and I both got Yemeni lattes (double shot of espresso plus cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon) - soooo delicious, one of the best lattes I've had in a while. Plenty of seating, free wifi, nice interior, and good service. Highly recommend!
This is a gem tucked in the Fan. This Yemeni coffee shop is very spacious. They have a lot of tables and chairs. Service is great. People at the counter were very nice and helpful. Hot chocolate was good. I was not able to taste the pistachio in the tres leches pistachio milk cake; nevertheless it was alright. The honeycomb bread (khaliat alnahl) was okay. We did not know where the smell of cigarette smoke was coming from because we did not see anyone smoking inside the coffee shop. Despite this, this coffee shop has great ambiance and offers great service.
This place is below the street level but has windows and sits in a busy area near the university and downtown. It is a Detroit area special that has branched out. The pastry selection is not quite as extensive as the original, but quality was still on display. I ended up with some sort of pistachio raspberry cheesecake kind of a thing, and not for a minute did I wish I'd gotten chocolate, which is a high bar to set. Their chai I asked for just lightly sweetened and it is good that way. You can just get a cup to go, but ordering a pot and dining in is a satisfying experience. I was surprised with this place not being busy; the Yemeni cafes of Detroit are a distinctive experience and I've seen them do well outside of Detroit when they've expanded. I could see this place offering a bit greater selection and more focus on special dietary needs, but they're doing a pretty good job with the basics.
This place is a hidden gem! The attention to detail with the decor and wall art is impeccable. My husband got the Arabic light coffee and I got the Mofawar. My husband's had a strong earthy taste; I loved mine as it had cream and sugar and the mix of flavors was so tasty. I also love how much seating they have, I could definitely see myself posting up with a laptop to get work done. I also love that they have a prayer room.
Friendly service and excellent coffee shop that offers a different experience than your typical latte. The menu is extensive for both drinks and food offerings, I really enjoyed the pistachio milk cake. Prices are high for RVA with two drinks and two pastries costing around $44. Best cafe for an elevated coffee experience! From the moment you step in it's not your traditional coffee house it's nice and spacious. I loved the relaxed decor and the wall decor that maps out coffee history. The pastries all looked delicious. Best cafe to linger and enjoy the experience. The coffee is organic has the cleanest aftertaste.
it's soooo good. early picture is a different day and i love the Biscoff one. I love croissant everything and these are one of the best croissants I've had pls try it out. and they have LOTS of options!!!

With plenty of seating and room for plugging in devices, Qahwah house seems to be a great place to study or get some work done. Coming here was like taking a walk down memory lane for me-- the cafe is located in the same space as the old Virginia Book Company-- I remember coming here to pick up books and supplies back in college, and it was nice to see how beautifully Qahwah has utilized the space. I ordered the pistachio latte with oat milk, and I was pleasantly surprised by the depth of flavor and quality of the drink. Will definitely be coming back if I'm in the area!

I got the Pistachio Latte, and honestly, it was good at first sip, but it quickly became WAY too sweet for me. I usually love sweet drinks, so I was surprised by how overwhelming this one was. The pistachio flavor was definitely there, which I appreciated, but it tasted too artificial, almost like there was too much syrup. The drink was also pretty heavy, and I ended up drinking less than 10% of it during my two-hour class because I just couldn't get through it. It was also surprisingly difficult to mix everything together. What made it even more disappointing was the price. I paid over $8 for this latte, which is honestly more than what I'm used to paying for coffee in LA or even the Bay Area. I feel like this drink has a lot of potential because I did enjoy the pistachio flavor initially. However, I think it would be so much better with less pistachio syrup and more milk to balance out the sweetness. I didn't end up finishing the drink at all because it felt too thick. read more
I visited this place today and really enjoyed the atmosphere and overall vibe. It's spacious, clean, and located right in the VCU campus area, making it a nice spot to relax or catch up with friends. I ordered the Adeni chai and the kunafa. The Adeni chai was just as good as I expected, but the kunafa was a bit disappointing--it was quite dry and not to my taste. If you live nearby or are within walking distance, it's definitely worth checking out. If you're driving, keep in mind that parking is paid and costs about $2.50 per hour. I'd definitely come back, but next time I'll probably get my order to go. read more

I love seeing more and more Arab businesses open up in RVA. If you're looking for delicious and strong coffee, Qahwah House is for you. I visited with some friends earlier this year and had a blast. There is plenty of seating throughout the store (only indoor available). This spot is right by VCU. I love that they play Arabic music in the shop. The menu is very big and has a huge variety of sweets and drinks to pick from. If you're not a coffee person, they have endless tea options. The people who work here are kind. When you place your order you get a buzzer to tell you when your order is ready. My mom enjoyed speaking Arabic to the baristas. As for bathrooms, there are three single stall options. One labeled woman, another man, and another all genders. The star of the show to me are the coffee pots. You can pick from a small, medium, or large pot and then choose which specific Yemeni coffee or tea pot you'd like. There are different options with different spices or cream. It's extremely charming. You can also opt to just get a single cup of a different coffee or tea. On my first visit I remember getting a latte I really enjoyed. On this recent one with my mom, we adored a pot of Mofawar (medium roast coffee served with cardamom & cream). I'm excited to try some of their sweets on my next visit. I highly recommend this spot. read more

Richmond location has a large, cool interior with lots of decor related to Yemen. Seems like a great place to do work. I got an iced Yemeni coffee and sabaya, both of which were excellent. Very excited that a location is coming to DC soon! read more
Delish coffee!! I went twice in one day because of how addicting the pistachio latte was. Went around 7am and it was very quiet inside and clean. - went again around 5pm and it was busier but still a ton of seating. The art work on the walls are cool too! Kinda pricey but worth it. read more

Wanted to try something different over the weekend and saw this coffee shop was open til midnight. Never been to a cafe like this but I absolutely loved it!! As soon as I walked in, I felt welcomed and immersed in the Yemeni culture. I got the pistachio latte and it was absolutely delicious!! The raspberry cake was also really good and not too sweet. I'll be bringing all my friends here whenever I'm in Richmond! read more

What a spot - if I went to VCU as a student, I would be here almost everyday, I promise you. Huge cafe with plenty of seating, and coffee that is truly so delicious - I got the Qishr coffee and savored every sip, each packed with some serious flavor and just as much caffeine to keep you wired. The Honeycomb Bread is like a bundle of joy in every bite - so subtle considering it is technically just bread and cream cheese, so you don't really expect the world but man do you get it. Every piece is equitable in that every "ball" has its own filling, so not one bite is lacking. Took awhile to get everything to my table, but they were also super busy so that was foreseeable. The Richmond-specific mural was the finishing touch on an otherwise amazing cultural experience right here in our home. Wish I could be here everyday. read more

Qawah House is a spacious coffee shop located near VCU specializing in Yemeni coffee and oh my goodness was the coffee good. The inside was stunning with beautiful lighting, colorful murals and pretty florals. There was ample seating and enough space between tables to not feel cramped. The menu is extensive and there is a variety of drinks for every person to enjoy. From refreshers to teas to coffees, I almost wanted to try everything. We ended up trying an iced caramel latte, an iced pistachio latte with oat milk and the honeycomb pull apart bread. They were all delicious but the pistachio latte was my favorite it was creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. It had a very natural pistachio taste and didn't skew artificial at all. They also offer an array of pastries! There is a list of the names of all the pastries with a brief description of what to expect at the cash register which was a lovely accessible touch. The cashier was kind and took her time in explaining different drinks to us. Overall, Qawah House is a must visit if you're into coffee or are looking for a quiet place to relax with a good beverage or enjoy some company. read more

Stopped by here for coffee and a pastry for breakfast. I ordered a hot pistachio latte. I've never had anything like it! It was creamy and nutty. So good. I also got the khaliat alnahl. It was good but was a little disappointed because it didn't taste as fresh as I thought it would be. Overall the cafe is really nice and spacious with a cozy vibe. read more

Came here to meet a friend and can't wait to return. This place is super spacious which is hard to come by at coffee shops in Richmond. We shared a pot of chai tea and each got a dessert. My carrot cake was perfection and was a great pairing for our tea. I will be back. read more

OMG I have a favorite new coffee house. Close to the VCU campus on Franklin, this cute restaurant has plenty of seating, and a charming atmosphere. Having never been here, the menu and cashier were both quite helpful. We ordered a few pastries and I got a Yemeni Latte. It was so rich and complex and the spinach and cheese pastry was so excellent! Everything was absolutely perfect so I have zero complaints. Definitely will be back as often as I can. read more

This new coffee shop has reached the top of my list for my all time favorite coffee shop in richmond! The ambiance is very welcoming and warm with beautiful decor. The service is friendly and fast with all the drinks made very beautifully. The pastries are amazing and the pistachio milk cake is my favorite as it tastes similar to a tres leches. The coffee is strong and caffeinated but is sweet with wonderful flavors. They present the drinks and pastries very nicely and are very instagram worthy. I am going to be craving this place once I go back to california! 10/10 amazing place and a great spot to try out with friends :) read more
