As someone currently in nursing school, I really appreciate how supportive he is -- he always makes sure I have everything I need, and it's extra inspiring knowing he used to be a nurse himself! He truly understands what it's like to be on both sides of healthcare. I'm a woman in my 20s, and he always makes me feel comfortable, respected, and cared for, especially during the more stressful or scary moments. You can tell he loves what he does and really wants the best for his patients. Also, shoutout to the front desk girl (I'm so sorry I don't know her name!) -- she's always kind, efficient, and welcoming every time I come in. I usually rely on my GP for referrals, but this time I searched online and chose him because he was the only provider offering a relatively early in-person appointment. I arrived on time for what I had specifically requested and confirmed as an in-person visit. However, the receptionist (or office manager) greeted me rudely and unpleasantly, insisting it was scheduled as a Zoom appointment. No one called the day before to confirm, despite standard practice. When I handed over my insurance card, she thrust an iPad at me in a hostile manner to sign again, with no courtesy or explanation. Her tone and attitude were so consistently unpleasant that I wondered why someone so unhappy would remain in a patient-facing medical role,there are plenty of opportunities elsewhere in healthcare. Eventually, I was seen by Dr. Rokaw, who appeared to be a rather large, older physician (in practice for over 40 years). I mentioned I'd done some personal research on Hashimoto's to better understand my condition, and he responded dismissively with something like, 'If you already know the answers, why are you here?' His bedside manner felt condescending, abrupt, and uninterested--he seemed to go out of his way to make me feel foolish rather than addressing my concerns helpfully. Overall, the visit was unproductive and left me feeling dismissed. Given his long tenure, advanced age, and what appeared to be a sedentary build suggesting limited personal focus on physical health, it might be time for Dr. Rokaw to consider retirement. He could benefit from stepping away to prioritize exercise, improve his own well-being, and perhaps work on more respectful patient interactions. I strongly advise others--especially those with chronic autoimmune conditions like Hashimoto's--to run the other way and seek a more engaged, compassionate provider elsewhere.

Talisha stayed on the line with me for over an hour with blue shield to make sure that I am in the right system cause otherwise if I had to use any medical care including hospitals they wouldn't cover despite the fact that every month they took my premiums. I was very much impressed and appreciative of what she did . In this day and age this kind of patient advocacy is very rate :)

My first impression was that he was grouchy but…read morehe ended up being very gentle, kind and reassured me that my injections would be painless...he was right and I was so relieved as I had had very bad experiences in the past. I had to have surgery on my wrist after several attempts with the injections. Again he assured me that it would be painless...the surgery was 3 hours late so I was feeling stressed but realized he only comes into this hospital to do surgeries so if they are late he has absolutely "no control" over that. I was treated exceptionally well from the moment I stepped foot into the hospital, great staff and my surgery was 100% successful!!! I had absolutely no pain except tight stitches as it healed. Dr. Balfour may not have the best bedside manner but he is a top notch surgeon, which is by far more important in the long run!!! After chemo and radiation eliminated my cancer, Dr Mark and his incredible staff have taken the very best care of me and my entire family. We s are all happy to be in the concierge program. They are always able to give advice over the phone, and can usually do same-day office visits if required, my entire family goes to Mark and his office partner, Dr Monica Sarang. So my question is: which one is it? Taking new patients (in a way that isn't a prohibitive delay) or not? I spoke to Aetna about how to get service, and the person on the phone said she was disappointed that so many providers were claiming to accept new patients but often not making many appointments available for new patients.
