if I could give James Upholstery a zero ...I would. He placed my vintage car under a tree so birds crapped all over the trunk . when I picked it up the same afternoon it was filthy. It had smudge marks everywhere. This place has no over night protection for your car. Now I have to pay for my car to be detailed. I took my Saturn Sky in to have a new top installed on July 8th. It was to take 4-6 weeks, finished Oct 17th. The top looks great, the moulding around the windows is ripped and torn. will not be a customer again or recommend. Maybe a new manager would clean up that sh t house. It's such a mess they don't know what they have. read more

Not sure why my original review was removed, I ended up suing James Upholstery and was awarded $264.00, which should have been more, the judge only gave me back my out of pocket materials rather than labor as well. This guy was dishonest, unethical thru out the entire experience. When I threatened to call the police, he proceeded to tell me he was best friends with the local police chief, Which the police were happy to help. He returned my car incomplete and horrible quality of work , I not only do not recommend, but warn you this guy is not good to deal with at all. read more

I went to James Upholstery to put a new vinyl top on my 1972 Lincoln Mark IV. I provided the material, and James provided the expertise and labor. Eight months after the installation of the top, a problem occurred. I drove to James' thinking I was going to have to argue since it was 8 months later. Instead, James looked at it, accepted responsibility, and set an appointment to get it fixed. At the appointment, they fixed the issue quickly, without an argument, without a hassle, without even showing the original receipt. The customer service was refreshing, especially in this day and age when businesses & people are trying to avoid responsibility. James provided 1972 style of customer service, and it was great!! I will bring any future work to him, seats, upholstery, vinyl roofs, whatever. I'm so glad I came to him. read more

We took our suburban to James and ask him to replace the carpet with the pre cut carpet that we had already ordered for the suburban. He said he would for $1000.00. We are restoring the suburban back to original condition so the seats needed to be recovered as well, only the two front seats. The $1000.00 including recovering the two seats. We had the suburban worked on and had small things replaced such as knobs , buttons, etc. We ordered them thru Chevy place next door to James' place. The problem we could not fix was the drivers side seat warmer would not turn on. The switch is located on the door, but just wouldn't turn on and work. However the passenger side worked very well. Push the button on the door and the seat got hot, felt great. James had the driver's seat torn down and took pictures sent them to us and it showed that the heating pads where black, they were for sure burn up. We ask him how much to fix James said $200.00 more dollars..Total now $1200.00. About a week later we went to pick up the suburban and it looked very good. Few days went by and we were in the suburban and hubby said turn your seat on its cold this morning. I went to turn on my seat and it would not come on. We were stunned knowing that it worked perfect before. Hubby called James and told him . He said bring it back we will look at it. We left the suburban with him all day and was told to come back at 430 that same day. When we got there he was gone but said that he could not fix it but to call in the morning he had a plan. One of his employees, a bald headed man said that when James replaced the first drivers seat with a AFTER MARKET PART it shorted out the passenger seat, but James had a plan and call him in the morning. We really was not happy when he replaced the drivers seat heater because he did not replace it properly . He did not rewire back to button on the door instead you now have a button on the dash that you have to push to turn on. The NEW PART AT DEALERSHIP IS ONLY $130..really already paid for labor cause he had the seats about to recover all he had to do is lay the heating pads in the seat. so we know the AFTER MARKET WAS MUCH CHEAPER $70.00..so he took our money there. My hubby calls and finally gets to talk to him and James says he will replace the heater in passenger seat but WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PART. My hubby says why should I have to pay for something that was working when I brought it into you working and when picked it up it was broken. James got very UGLY ON THE PHONE. Said he wasn't going to fix the seat..for us to PROVE IT THAT HE BROKE IT. What a sad day when a company, a SO CALLED FAMILY OWNED COMPANY,ONE THAT TAKES PRIDE IN THEIR WORK.. would say something like that to a customer that just handed him $1200.00 CASH. He HUNG THE PHONE UP IN MY HUBBYS FACE. We didn't even mention the big grease spot that was put on the new carpet right up under passenger seat. About the size of a quarter. Doubt we can get it up. JAMES UPHOSHERY IS THE WORST COMPANY EVERY TO DO BUSINESS WITH. WE OWN 4 VEHICLES BUT I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER ONE TO HIM. BY THE WAY HE OFFERS NO WARRANTY ON ANY OF HIS WORK....HE IS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL MAN WE HAVE EVER DEALT WITH IN THE BUSINESS WORLD. YELLING ON THE PHONE, SAYING HE REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE, PROVE I BROKE IT HE SAID, WHEN HE KNOWS HE DID. We ask for his full name he refused to give it to us. But what he doesn't understand is that both our sons are in law enforcement ..We now know his name is JAMES GRAGG and we will see him in court. GREAT local business. James & his crew did a great job repairing the front seats in my daughter's Honda Element but then they helped me out in a big way when I lost my wedding band in the bottom of my car! It had slipped off putting hand sanitizer on & went clanking down under my seat. After 21 years with it on my finger I was so upset. I searched for an hour but when I couldn't find it I went straight to James'. I told him what had happened and before I had even finished my story he was on it. He checked out my car and saw that there were good-sized holes in the flooring under the seat (by design!?). He had one of his guys get tools and they unbolted my seat, lifted the flooring and then I saw both their faces light up and they handed my ring to me! I had my ring back within 15 minutes of pulling up to his shop and to top it off, James wouldn't take any money for the work (but did allow me a tip for his employee). This is a local business with heart that knows their business and does quality work. Can't recommend them highly enough. read more

Took my car in to get the headliner replaced. Was able to get an appointment within a week and they replaced the headliner within a day.

Don't bother. I took an item to James over a month ago to be redone with new material and slightly larger. His employee took my name, number, and description of changes, and said James would call that afternoon to confirm. I didn't hear back, so I stopped in twice the following week. On the second visit, the employee called James on the phone, and James said the material had been ordered, and he gave me a price. A month later - nothing. I stopped in today, and they found the item only after a lengthy search. James then said to me 'what color do you want'? ??? . The material had not been ordered, and the new item obviously wasn't even started. No communication, and what he did say on the phone was an outright lie. Crap service, organization, and ethics. If he doesn't want the business, he should say as much. I will go elsewhere. read more

He reupholstered the chairs including new foam and had them ready in 24-hours. His work exceeded our expectations and the turn around time was quicker than we expected. i had a wonderful experience at james upholstery in fletcher nc. i needed a convertible top replaced on my vw. he ordered the top on tuesday took the car wednesday and it was done thursday great service and great person to deal with. they also did some extras i didnt ask them to do that had nothing to do with the convertible god bless people who go above and beyond. if anyone needs upholstery please consider james and his staff. read more

In mid June I took a seat kit and a bolt of NOS fabric to James and asked if he could use my fabric to sew new inserts into the kit. James said it would be very easy and assured me of a professional job. He wrote down all the details, and I provided two photos examples of what I wanted. James said they would be ready in a week. I gave him two, but the work had not been completed. James said he was covered up with work and to give him two weeks. I gave him three, and the work was still not completed. After another week, I stopped by the shop and was informed that my seats were ready. Upon inspection I discovered my fabric had not been used and that cheap vinyl had used to make my inserts. To top it off, the pleats were also wrong. The photos I provided had been disregarded and thrown away. I asked the whereabouts of my expensive fabric and no one knew. I searched the shop and found the bolt of fabric next to the office door. I instructed James not to do any more work until I gave the go ahead, but he started taking my kit apart. I once again told him not to touch my upholstery. I then purchased a NOS seat cover with the pleat pattern I needed and took it to the shop. James seemed appreciative to have an exact pattern in hand and assured me the work would be completed by Thursday August 9. On Monday August 13 I went to pick up my upholstery, but it was still not ready. I got nothing but lies, incompetence, and complete lack of customer concern from James. BEWARE doing business with this man, he talks a great line but cares nothing about his customer. read more
