Brown Stew Chicken
Merri D.

This place is decent and convenient to the area with a small area for parking in front. I got the Brown Stew chicken with rice and peas, and plantain, which is not included in the meal and is considered an additional side if I recall correctly. I also got the homemade/storemade ginger beer (it is non-alcoholic); if you love ginger this is perfect but be forewarned it is very strong and ginger forward. With tax the total was about $25. This is the closest to authentic brown stew chicken I've had in the area, and the rice and peas was also good. Good portion size too. I will be back to try out some of the other dishes. Nice welcome to the neighborhood.

"Jerk" shrimp

I ordered 2 beef patties, jerk shrimp/peas&rice/plantain, curry chicken/peas&rice/plantain and a roti. I was not impressed, as someone of Caribbean descent. The curry chicken and rice&peas were good portions. The plantains were not sweet or soft. The patties are located on the counter top and after 20min I had to go up to the counter and ask for the patties, which they seemed to have forgotten about. The "jerk" shrimp was made with a spicy tomato based sauce, which isn't my understanding of jerk seasoning. The roti was hard and barely warm. I'm very disappointed and unfortunately wouldn't recommend this establishment for authentic Jamaican cuisine.

Oxtail

Great amount of food and top quality. It's just kissing the Caribbean flavor. It's like they used no spices, herbs or even salt. Located in a co-kitchen with plenty of parking. You put your order in a tablet and the food comes out of a pickup shelf within 20 minutes. I will not return because of lack of flavor but if you don't like salt this might be a healthier option.

Oxtails with vegetables and Mac and cheese

I was craving some oxtails, so tried this place out based on reviews. It's a takeout/delivery app only type of place and I opted for delivery. There's a good selection of items on the menu to choose from. Everything was packed in a sturdy container and delivered in a sturdy paper bag. Though I'd normally want my items sectioned off a bit better because of the amount of liquid the oxtails were in, I didn't mind it too much since it was good. I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese, and the oxtails were big, tender, and flavorful. I got an extra serving, but I'm sure the portion size would have been great without that. Definitely hit the spot. I personally wasn't as much of a fan of the mixed veg since it's basically the frozen mix, but everything else was delicious. I look forward to trying this place again.

What I received: rice & peas, Mac & cheese and curried goat. The only thing was correct was the rice.

The curry goat as well was incredibly good, very tender and a lot of meat. Rice and peas was the best side I tried. Some of the best food I have ever tasted, I am not exaggerating. Portions were great, left feeling STUFFED. Service was kind, professional, and actually very quick. Menu was super straightforward and easy to understand, even for someone who has never eaten Jamaican food before. It's extremely clean and professional inside, very welcoming. And prices are very reasonable, especially considering the size of the portions. Would definitely suggest getting the oxtail with rice and peas and some sort of vegetable for the best all around eating experience. Jerk chicken patty is also a nice option if you're looking for something quicker. Please try this place. You will NOT be disappointed.

I then waited another 45 minutes for the food and was told it would take an additional seven minutes - -turned into 20mins for the beef patty. The restaurant clearly has high customer traffic, so I hope the food is good enough to justify the excessive wait. However, the lack of communication, urgency, and any attempt to compensate for the delay made the overall service experience extremely disappointing. Food satisfaction: Pending.

The staff are always friendly and make good conversation, and the drinks are always a good strength. Most recently, I tried one of the flavored margaritas and left very pleased! When I come here, I typically get the curry goat, which comes with rice, chickpeas, and potatoes. The most recent time I visited, the potatos were going to take a little longer to cook, so they offered me a choice between cabbage or greens instead. I went with the collard greens, and they were really good! They seemed to be cooked with a lot of butter, which was new for me when it comes to collard greens, but I still loved them overall. Bammy's is located in Navy Yard, so parking isn't always the easiest. But if you're able to snag a spot or you're already walking around the area, I definitely recommend stopping by!

It took almost 20 minutes for the food on a Thursday afternoon. I appreciated the self order kiosk but you'd with all hands on meals it wouldn't take as long. As for the food, it was a big miss unfortunately. The cabbage was mushy. Decent taste though. The peas in the rice were hard and undercooked. The jerk chicken was cooked nice and moist. However, they put a mango sauce on top which maybe its me, but that was not the play. The beef patty was the best part of the meal but was one of the flattesr patties I've ever had. I may try to go back and try something else since its super close but I'm not going to rush to do so.

The staff was incredibly attentive, professional, and thoughtful, I was really delighted with everyone's service. The space is dimly lit, cozy, and intimate which falls in line with a nice date night The oysters were easily some of the best I've had, and the shrimp creole and Ben's bowl were just as impressive. The lamb sauce deserves its own shoutout because I genuinely couldn't get enough of it. The wagyu oxtails were incredibly tender, could barely pick it up with my fork, practically falling off the bone. The drinks were great, too, we got a Sorel Ricky but there's definitely a solid selection to choose from. I'd heard great things about Dogon, and they will definitely see me again!

An Unexpected Dinner That Exceeded Every Expectation!…read more Sometimes the best dining experiences are the ones you don't plan! I hadn't eaten dinner that evening, and a friend suggested I check out the restaurants inside the hotel. I was already familiar with DOGON, but I had no idea it was located there or that I was so close to it! What started as a spontaneous decision to grab dinner turned into one of the most memorable dining experiences I've had in quite some time. And the hospitality began before I even made it inside the restaurant! I believe the gentleman assisting guests at the hotel entrance was named Malik. I was having a little trouble locating DOGON, and he was incredibly helpful in getting me to the appropriate person who could assist with seating. Rather than simply pointing me in the right direction, he took the initiative to personally connect me with the hostess. It may seem like a small gesture, but those are the details I appreciate. Exceptional hospitality isn't limited to what happens once you're seated. It begins with the very first interaction, and Malik certainly set the tone for what turned out to be a wonderful evening. I was seated at the bar, and let me just say, what a beautiful space! The atmosphere was sophisticated, inviting, and perfect for enjoying a cocktail and a great meal. And then there was Ivory! Ivory was my bartender and server, and she was absolutely phenomenal! Attentive, personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. Since this was my first time dining at DOGON, Ivory took the time to walk me through the menu and offer recommendations. I always appreciate when someone is knowledgeable about what they're serving and can confidently guide you toward dishes and cocktails that showcase what a restaurant has to offer. It makes such a difference, especially when you're visiting somewhere for the first time. One of her recommendations was a cocktail called The Astronomer, and when I tell you this was one of the BEST cocktails I've ever tasted in my life, I am not exaggerating! The combination of flavors was incredible. I remember notes of chai and lavender, and the balance was absolutely beautiful. It was aromatic, smooth, and unlike anything I've had before. I would return for this cocktail alone! Now, let's get into the food! I ordered the oxtail patties and Hoe Crab, both of which were absolutely delicious. The flavors were rich, beautifully executed, and memorable. I also ordered the barbecue greens and cornbread to take home, along with a little shot of something that I couldn't quite identify. Everything I tried was delicious, and Ivory's recommendations certainly did not disappoint! But as much as I enjoyed the food and cocktails, the hospitality is what truly stood out. From Malik taking the initiative to assist me upon arrival to Ivory taking the time to explain the menu, offer thoughtful recommendations, and ensure I was well taken care of throughout my visit, the service was exceptional from beginning to end. I dine out frequently, and while great food is always appreciated, outstanding hospitality is what makes a restaurant memorable. It's what makes you want to return, recommend it to others, and genuinely look forward to your next visit. And of course, hats off to Chef Kwame! His creativity, attention to detail, and ability to bring bold, distinctive flavors together are truly impressive. You can tell there's intention behind the menu, and I appreciate a chef who creates dishes that leave a lasting impression. DOGON is a beautiful reflection of his culinary vision, and I look forward to exploring more of the menu on my next visit! My final thoughts? DOGON absolutely exceeded my expectations. From the beautiful ambiance and exceptional cocktails to the delicious food and outstanding hospitality, this was an experience worth sharing. I walked in without any plans to dine there that evening and left thoroughly impressed. Will I return? ABSOLUTELY! 100%! A special thank you to Malik and Ivory for making an unexpected dinner such a wonderful experience. It's refreshing to encounter people who genuinely understand the importance of hospitality and take pride in creating a memorable experience for their guests. DOGON, you have officially earned a spot on my list of restaurants worth revisiting!
