Consistantly decent jamaican food. Well seasoned fish and curry goat. The chef did a very good job in preparing fish for my sisters birthday. I would definitely use them again.

This is the real deal, man. If your Jamaican food crave is on, you will find satisfaction here! Remember this is probably not your date-night venue, nor the place to take your elderly parents for their anniversary. It's sparsely decorated with basic no-frills tables and chairs. Your dinner napkin will likely be a half-sheet of paper towel carefully folded. But it's clean and oh so friendly in that Jamaican way. Don't hesitate to dine in. Just think totally casual and laid back. We came on a Wednesday which is the red-bean soup day, but soup was all gone by the time we arrived around 6 PM. All but one variety of the Jamaican patties were also gone, so I get the feeling they just make so much in the morning, and when it's gone, it's gone. So, you know it's fresh! But if you're coming later in the day, may want to call first. It's been a long time since we had good Jamaican so we both went for the curry goat. Although we ordered small, the p\ortion was grand. We each had leftovers for a solid lunch. The large plate will probably get you two full meals. Absolutely delicious in every way. Do not miss the vegetable mix, which is primarily cabbage cooked tender, oily, with some mysterious island spices that cannot be replicated. Our kind hostess asked if we wanted sweet plantain and we went for it, glad we did. Don't forget to grab a sweet cold Jamaican soda too. Remember, Friday closing time is sundown, and next opening is 2 PM on Sunday. If you're coming any distance, may want to call first to confirm open as well as to make sure they have not run out of your favorite! Can't wait to try the jerk chicken or curry chicken...mmm.. I'm going back tomorrow!

Searched high and low for a Caribbean restaurant for some good oxtail and jerk chicken and came across this gem! Oxtail was tender and full of flavor, wish they put a bit more gravy on my rice, next time Ill remember to ask. Purchased a large oxtail for $15, and it was a lot of food! I had some to snack on the next day. Also got the jerk chicken salad (lunch special $6!!!!) so much chicken and it was so yummy! Perfectly spicy and I added the sweet sauce on it and went to town!!!! Great, simple spot, for great food. Will be back!

Kinda started eating before I realized to snap a shot. It looked better than this and it's oozing with Island flavor!

Ordered the curry goat and it was absolutely amazing. Reminds me of my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Riviera Beach, FL called, Tony's. Growing up in South Florida, I'm accustomed to excellent Caribbean foods and to find one here just as good as my hometown was a joy. Well, this is New York aka Baby Jamaica (I'm in Long Island near Jamaica in Queens) and there's all kinds of restaurants here and in abundance. I paid $12 for a large and it will yield you two servings easy. New Orleans aren't known to have lot of Jamaican or Caribbean restaurants so I'm hard pressed to find such quality with these dishes there. Anyway, I've certainly found a gem here near my hotel and will be returning during my two month business stint. As an observation, I'm not sure they understand the value of good customer service which will take you further than any good product. Customers drive your business bae!

If you like curry goat then this is a must try. You can get it with rice or roti. Roti is the better option. Their curry is mild to medium spicy depends on your tolerance. It is a mouthful of favors from all the spices and herbs. There are few tables but most of the business is take out. Is not much of a place to sit, dine and enjoy instead it is a place for really good home style food. The menu is not vast but is good for quality control. Call in to order ahead of time to ensure availability and decease waiting time. Lunch time is busy. Once any item is sold out it is sold out for the day. This is a good sign for fresh food. The price is fair for the quality and portion of the food. A worth try establishment if you are in the neighborhood.

Stewed beef with half rice & half veggies for lunch!!! So good!!!

I seriously am addicted to this place. I have been going here for lunch during my work week almost every day. My go-to is definitely the Stewed Beef with half rice/half veggies + a plantain but if they don't have that I'll order the Oxtail Stew. Price: I usually pay 7 dollars and some change for the Stewed Beef lunch special - the Oxtail Stew unfortunately is not part of the lunch special so I think it's a little bit more expensive - I don't remember!! Food: Food taste sooooo good and they are not stingy!! I get a good amount of food in the lunch special - my favorite is the stew juice with the rice. Staff/Establishment: JB is basically a Jamaican take out place but they also have some tables for you to sit in. The ladies that ring you up are always nice. Tip: ALWAYS ask for the plantain - the one time I didn't mention the plantain they forgot to place it in my order!! Overall, this Jamaican restaurant is definitely worth visiting for some good food.

The real deal! A favorite of mine anytime I'm in the area. There is absolutely nothing fancy about this joint. Don't come in expecting a whole lot in customer service though the folks are wonderful. It's really a take out place and if you dine in ...the good silverware is wrapped in a paper towel, the chairs and tables are well used and your still ordering at the counter...and I am ok with this because they serve some of the best jerk chicken and ox tail I've ever had. Their lunch special.... a whopping $6.50, gets you a big plateful of real, flavorful goodness. Today I had the jerk chicken with rice, sautéed cabbage, and plantain (pictured)...and did I mention all this for $6.50? Wouldn't want these folks to change a thing as long as they keep serving the deliciousness!

Amazing Jerk Chicken dish I had.

The food here is amazingly good. I went to this place 3 times during a visit to Hofstra. The oxtails were flavorful and rich. The curry chicken was terrific with just a hint of spice. My favorite was the jerk chicken. The rich spices and the hint of run were amazing. All of these dishes came with rice and beans. Each meal cost me less than $10. This is a hole in the wall, family owned, no frills establishment but well worth the trip. The chef/owner was super friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this place.

Food is solid Jamaican fare. Oxtails are meaty and tender. With traditional rice and Peas, which could've used a likkle more love, as the rice was overcooked and not many peas. With gravy, almost mush but seasoned good tho. Appreciated the Steamed carrots. Needed more. Also, only came with 1 small broccoli stem. Plate was majority rice. Jerk Chicken is heavily browned, seasoned well but baked not grilled. If it is grilled, its a gas grill & no Pimento leaves, while also being buried in tons of sauce. Carrot cake was delicious. Light and not overly sweet. Golden raisins give a nice touch! Frosting is decadent but not cloying. Honestly, would give a 3.8 vs solid 4 but Service was exceptional and efficient.
