    Oxtails and sweet plantain waffles

Another great experience at NK even 2 years later. Impressed with the consistency. We went for brunch and I had the oxtails with sweet plantain waffles. It came with an option of one side and there were so many to choose from! I had the cheese grits which were so creamy and delicious. I particularly liked that the bottomless mimosas option let you choose from like 8 choices of drinks! That's special. The table had sangria and the island mimosas which I heard were good. I'm pregnant so I had unlimited piña coladas as a substitute which were very yummy. The staff was sooooo polite and accommodating. The DJ turned the place up and played any song we wanted to hear. 10/10!

This is a hot spot a go to the drinks is everything the food. The music was hitting. The service was excellent I love this place. I would come here everyday if I can. Today I didn't eat but the food is amazing. The drinks are outstanding. The atmosphere is great. I love this place.

Nuvo Kitchen is wonderful for vibes but don't come too hungry... I came here for a friend's birthday brunch and I've been a few times previously and unfortunately the quality has gone down since my first encounter. I must say the DJ was great! He was so fun, super engaged with the crowd, and was playing music that appealed to the masses. I think the music, vibes, and bottomless drinks option for brunch is what keeps people coming back. The ambiance is what really pushed this review from 2 to 3 stars. Unfortunately the food doesn't taste very good and definitely doesn't reheat well so be mindful of this if you decide to come. I ordered the ackee and salt fish and it was soooo salty - they probably only soaked the saltfish once (my fellow Jamaicans know exactly what I'm talking about). I was super excited for the ackee and it was a major let down, besides the extreme salt the few bites I took tasted good. The restaurant was nice enough to offer us something else to eat but they were not willing to leave it off the bill. As as result I took home their lobster Mac and cheese and it was worse than the ackee. As far as the empanadas they were good and the drinks are good as well but can get super expensive based on presentation. I hope things improve here because I would love to make it a regular brunch spot but unfortunately the food isn't the best

Overall experience was A+ Jose and Team was exceptional for a party of 14. We sampled just about everything on the menu. Lamb chops, chicken wings, street corn, scallops wrapped in Bacon, Lobster Mac n cheese, salmon balls, and French Toast to name a few!!! The DJ played a good mixture of music, R & B, trail ride, and hip hop!! Looking forward to the next time!!

Food was delicious but way too overpriced! Between 4 people spent $950. Great ambiance and service was absolutely fantastic.

Decided to visit NK with my friends for brunch. It's a Caribbean mix of Haitian, Jamaican, and Dominican. We were not disappointed. Since it was a weekday, it was not crowded (which was nice). Our waiter was helpful with his recommendations. He made sure that our bottles were replenished in a timely manner. With the bottomless option, the whole table has to get it so keep that in mind. We ordered the NK Island Mimosa and the Reposado Mimosa from the Prixe Fixe Menu. This option is 1 entree, 1 side, and 90 min bottomless. I ordered the Deviled Crab Cakes with the Home Fries as the side. It was flavorful. I definitely recommend this restaurant to any visiting the Long Island area.

While not in Queens , East Meadow isn't too far away . The staff were friendly accommodated a party of 9 on the spot . This resistant identified as Black owned and it serves Caribbean food . We were fairly early for dinner so the place was nice and quiet . We started we appetizers for the table . We had fried calamari, cauliflower bites , Jerk duck spring rolls , and NK Wings . All were delicious ! It's pricey but the food was delicious ! I ordered a dish called surf and turf Braised Oxtails . No it's not steak or lobster but oxtails and scallops with rice and peas! You can also get coconut rice if you prefer . I was skeptical because I didn't think the scallops would go with this dish but it was amazing ! The interesting thing was the oxtail was completely de-boned . When I got my place I thought I was looking at some type of cake or something ! The presentation was amazing ! There was enough rice and peas for days ! I tasted the 3lb Lobster Mac and Cheese and this was delicious ! There are American items on the menu including steaks . They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner . They make the best rum punch ! Please note for big parties the maximum # of credit cards they will take is 3 .

Thank you NK, for making my Christmas special I was able to make a reservation and was seated right away. The host (Tony I believe) was nice over the phone and in person. Now let's get into the drinks... I usually DO NOT drink rum punch... HOWEVER... I was convinced by my server Jose to try it. I did... I got 2! lol #DELICIOUS !!! All rum punch is not created equal! Drink- 10/10 Next I started with the salmon cakes... not quite cooked all the way through bc they were balls. Thankfully Jose (very attentive) noticed me having cut them open and how undercooked they were and was able to serve me a fresh batch fully cooked. WAY BETTER! Friendly Suggestion- flatten them and make them cakes instead of balls... this way you'll ensure they're thoroughly cooked Salmon fritters- 7/10 For an entree I got the oxtail plantain waffles... just writing that and looking at the photo, I'm reimagining the meal ALL OVER AGAIN. DELICIOUS! TENDER! WELL SEASONED ! Oxtail plantain waffles- 10/10 The service was excellent! The music was good, def a mix of hip hop r n b and Caribbean! Jose was AMAZING! Overall I'd give them a strong 8/10! I'll be returning to see what brunch is giving... Christmas def was EVERYTHING! Thanks again for adding to my special Christmas Day!

I'm giving three stars for the mere vibe of this spot. We came here for a celebratory brunch to honor our cousin for her 35th birthday. It was a couples' outing and there were six of us. We originally had a reservation for 245P but arrived late and worried they might not seat us, but they accommodated and it was litty inside. The DJ did a great job with the music, playing all the songs we grew up whining and grinding to, getting the patrons involved, and making it a really fun and interactive brunch. Our server was very nice. He introduced himself, he was personable and he fit with the theme of this restaurant. He took our drink orders and we all opted for the Rum Punch. It definitely had a kick. It's made with Wrey & Nephew...IYKYK. My family is from Jamaica so I was very excited to try out their menu. The prices are up there but as appetizers go, you're better off getting the empanadas. They're $24 but you get a good amount that's enough to share. For some reason I missed that on the menu and ordered the Lollipop Lamb Chops which I don't suggest ordering. They're 'double chops', only in that they each had two bones. Yes. There were only two of them. The price? $26. The meat was very small (meat medallion was the size of a half dollar on one, the other, a quarter) and one of them was overcooked. Legit, the bones were thicker than the medallions. For that price, they should have given a couple more. That app was not even enough for two people to share. For my main, I opted for the Oxtail Plantain Waffles. I was disappointed with this dish. There were only 3 somewhat warm oxtails, and the waffles were cold. They didn't taste like plantain. I expected actual fried sweet plantains, pressed in a waffle iron, which would have been way better. The oxtial tasted OK but the protein was so scant. There were way more cold waffles than I would have liked, and an obnoxiously large dressed salad on the plate that took up the most space. For reference, this dish was $35. Ridiculous. You're better off going to a hood West Indian restaurant and picking up a medium oxtail dinner for half the price. At this point, we were just paying for the ambience. Hubby had the Jerk Chicken & Waffles, and enjoyed it. His food was actually warm and he was also given way more of his protein than I. He had around three pieces of chicken, half a bird. In hindsight, I'm glad I ordered a side of turkey sausage just in case. The birthday girl had a filet for her steak and eggs dish but I'm not sure what kind of filet it was. When I read filet, I'm assuming the cut of beef will be filet mignon but that was definitely not it. Her hubby had the same but ordered the ribeye which was huge in comparison. After we were pretty much done with our food, I ordered some to-go oxtail empanadas and for some reason, after 20 minutes, I was told they ran out. I ordered the curry chicken ones instead and those came out in 10. Go fig... For the most part, we had a good time. The music was great, the energy was contagious and the drinks were strong. The one thing that's weird is how they ended the brunch. They began packing up and cleaning, letting the crowd know that brunch was ending. The DJ packed up and left everyone cleared out. I'm guessing they were readying for their dinner crowd but there was no crowd. Literally, two couples came in and were sat for dinner, but we were told that we had to move from our table because they needed it for their "dinner rush". We might have been pushed out because we didn't get any bottle service. One table of ladies that did, wwas able to stay with no issue. It was odd. The place was empty. No one was waiting for tables at all. Our cousin said she had to put down a $90 deposit for the brunch but it came off the final bill. Even with that taken off, the bill was still ridiculous for a brunch. Maybe there aren't many places like this on the island so they can charge for the demand but I won't be coming back. Had my food been better to justify what they charge, I would have been much happier.

Great option for Caribbean food with creative options in Long Island. We got there when the opened on a Tuesday, so we were the only diners up until we closed out our check. The playlist was a mix of soca, reggae pop, and 90s r&b/pop. So we were jamming the entire meal. Before dining, we were offered a hot towel to wipe our hands with. Definitely a nice touch. Both entrees were good. The lobster was a bit scarce in the Mac and cheese, but the noodles were cooked well and the overall dish was good. The oxtail was very tender though there were only 3 pieces. The plantain waffles are a selling point in my opinion. It's not something you can get everywhere, the waffle batter is very well done -- nice and thick, and the plantain is prominent. The drinks were well mixed though the mimosa should find itself in a bigger glass considering it was less drink than the others not counting ice. They have brunch everyday with an option for bottomless brunch. Definitely would recommend this place.

Ask the Community - NK Restaurant

Is this a Black Owned restaurant?

Do you have a private room for birthday celebrations for a group?

    I don't believe they have a private room. I didn't see one.

Do guests have to show proof of vaccination in order to dine in?

They don't as far as I know but just call beforehand to double check.

    Is there gluten-free menu/options?

There are options that are gluten free, but you should double with the server. My husband is GF and asks about the dish he wants prior to ordering. Just to be safe.

Are walk-ins accepted or is it reservations only?

    Yes...both

The rice and pease was good and soft. I def wished they put more veggies since I ordered half rice / half veggies. As you can tell from the pic - this was NOT half veggies The red peas soup was just okay - the flavor was a little off. This place offers the lowest price for oxtail around at $15. Taking that into consideration, I'm still not entirely sure whether or not I'd give this place another try - given there are def better options that are worth the $5 or $6 price difference

So I said ok, well let me get soup. I ordered a small chicken soup. Soup looked good. I kid you not, the woman came around the corner with a wooden toothpick picking her teeth to give me the container of soup. I was literally the only customer in there, was she going to get gingivitis in the 1 minute she could have waited for me to at least leave the restaurant without having seen it. Now how am I to comfortably eat this soup?...How? How I ask you?!?! The thing is with food at restaurants, you know in the back of your head some places don't do things to the highest standards but blatantly doing it in front of you like it's nothing is disgusting. I can only imagine what's done in the back.
