This used to be one of my favorite places to go. I stopped in yesterday. Everything was great until my jerk chicken was delivered. I sliced it open and there it was ...just pink with a blood spot. I reached out to the waitress and told her that I preferred my chicken a little more cooked than what I had in front of me. The cook comes out to tell me that because it's dark meat, it looks pink and there's nothing wrong with it. No offer to replace it or hell, even recook it. I came home and threw the entire meal in the trash. How does a cook tell you what your food should look like??? I hope One Love is still open for business because I will NEVER go back to this place. I'm landing on 4 because I would go back but I'm not sure I'll crave anything between visits. Everything was good but sometimes I like things better than others... We went with friends and between the variety of our entrees and an appetizer sampler we got to taste a decent swath of the menu. We went to Jamaica Gates for a special birthday dinner and our server was Donelle. She was great! She took us through the menu and drinks. She has some great recommendations. My wife got the Brown Chicken Stew and loved it! I went with the Jerk Wings with veggies on the side. It was good! The vibes in the restaurant were on point from the start! We ate here today and it was outstanding! Food was prepared perfectly and was delivered to the table hot from the stove. We had fried catfish and the jerk chicken. They do heat levels for the chicken and the medium heat was perfect for me! THe sautéed veggies were perfect as were the rice and beans. I did not know that Jamaica was in Arlington. I have not been to Jamaica yet, but I know what the countryside tastes like now. The restaurant is located in a shopping center but it is off by itself so there is plenty of parking. When my friend and I walked into Jamaica Gates, we were greeted immediately and shown to our seats. We got there at about 6, so it was before the dinner rush. And our waiter Glen helped answer our questions about the food and the drink menu. They have happy hour from 3 - 7 Tuesday - Sunday, It was a really nice happy hour because you could pick any of the liquors from the middle shelf or their rum punch or wine for $5 and $2 off their appetizers. I chose the Jamaican greens. They were so tasty, and I also got their brown fish stew with red beans and rice and cabbage. When I heard stew, I thought it was going to be like a soup. It was a whole fish with a delicious sauce on top of it. It was cooked beautifully and so tender. The cabbage was tasty, and the rice and beans tasted authentic. My friend and I were there for hours because we were catching up, and the longer we were there, the busier it got. Before we left, we also got our free dessert. We wanted the Jamaican rum cake, but they were out. So we settled for the cheesecake. It was pretty tasty considering, but I had my mouth ready for the rum cake, so I'll be doing that next time. At around 8 PM, on Fridays, a DJ comes, and they actually have 2 DJs playing, so it started to get poppin. They are open late and I would love to go back on a Saturday when they have live music. If you want to go to Jamaica but it's not in the budget, this is the next best option! I can't wait to go back. read more

They were out of several things which was unfortunate, especially as it was only 3pm and they didn't seem very busy. If you check in on Yelp, you get a free dessert. The rum cake is STRONG, lol. The ox tails were good but it was a small portion, in my opinion. Rice and peas were slightly dry. The cabbage tasted more like Cole slaw. The Rasta pasta was good, but it didn't seem especially Jamaican or flavorful. It was seasoned but I couldn't detect anything culturally different from typical American cuisine. This particular night the service was kind of slow in terms of having to ask for refills on water and soft drinks. We went on a Saturday night and there was a live band that played, they were pretty good but they played at a volume level that made having a conversation at the table impossible. A fan of their curry, this time I decided to try the Brown Stew Chicken and let me tell you it does not disappoint. Marinated to perfection, the Brown Stew Sauce has a great consistency, not too runny not too thick.. just perfect with notes of island flavors. The cabbage is steamed well with a nice crispy on bite. Hit or miss. Maybe it was a bad night for Jamaica Gates, but I'll get right into it. Service was fair. Their Jamaican Patty was good, still was expecting some spice to it. The fried plantains were awesome and the chicken curry and vegetables were satisfying. Caution for bone shards in the chicken though. The rice seemed either day old or over cooked, so that was a miss. Lastly, for food, the Irie bread pudding was dense and tacky; not quite what I expected, and the rum drizzle attempted to make up for the textural mishap. My biggest reasons for the low stars are as follows. We were all served our meal in to-go boxes and disposable cups. I know Covid is still a worry, but the prices made me think we were at a restaurant not a food truck. That being said, on the way out I noticed a sign advertising a happy hour everyday 3pm to 7pm with certain deals like $3 appetizers; we were neither informed of nor charged the happy hour deals for which we present. I would've appreciated if the server had charged us correctly for the happy hour items. I'm not likely to come back for overpriced decent food and overall subpar experience. read more

I don't know if ordering online or in person is faster. All I know is that whatever time Doordarsh gives to pick up your food...add another 30-45 minutes. You will wait for what feels like eternity before your food is ready, but the food is really good. It's a laid back atmosphere and the servers are welcoming and nice. I love their patties! The pastry is soft and flaky, and the inside is hot and flavorful. The chocolate rum cake is one of my favorite well. You should find something on the menu that you'll enjoy. read more
