We came up here from California, where the Mexican food is amazing... can't seem to find it here in Eugene. We came in, we're seated where the menus are thrown down. I asked for beef "super nachos". Instead of telling me the "super nachos" don't come with a protein, the server gave me attitude when I sent "regular" nachos back for meat and no tomatoes. He said" you ordered super nachos, they don't come with meat. I said "you should have corrected me when I ordered. He had so much attitude! My husband's tacos were soaking wet with the juice from the meat, he couldn't pick them up. Taco Bell is much better with better attitudes! read more

Hubs and I used to eat at Jalisco often, but hadn't been back for a long time until a week or so ago. Our server was abrupt and failed to return to check on us. I had to flag down another worker to tell her that I had received a shrimp enchilada rather than the crab enchilada I had ordered. When our server did come over she didn't seem to believe me until she inspected the food. Fine. Then when the replacement came, it was not like the crab enchilada I used to get there. It was filled with something else -- I don't know -- maybe peppers or something. There were a couple of tiny pieces of what may have been old, dried out crab meat, but I'm not sure. Driving north through Eugene, we decided that we would like some Mexican food - quick, inexpensive, nothing fancy. Jalisco was near our hotel so we gave it a try 8pm on a Wednesday night. There wasn't anyone there, but the service was exceptional - I had a big, delicious margarita served with fresh hot chips and tasty salsa within minutes. My husband and I both ordered a pork tamale and a chicken enchilada with verde sauce. Dinner came promptly with rice and beans that I absolutely loved! We will definately go back the next time we are in Eugene - excellent selection, great flavors, prompt service. read more

Family style Mexican restaurants can suck on it! You want a two carne asada tacos, nope they won't do it. They offer you a plate of 3 with rice and beans for 12 bucks. You want a carne asada burritto instead, that shit will be 12 bucks as well. I end up paying 7 bucks for the not so good shredded chicken burrito (I knew grilled would cost a fortune). Beware, they might steal from you. I went there as the last customer on a Sunday night. I ordered a meal, paid and tipped well. I had a terrible migraine at the time though and wasn't quite aware. My wallet dropped out of my purse onto a booth seat. I went by first thing in the morning and they returned my wallet with all of the cash gone $60+. I always carry cash and had just gone to an ATM that morning so I am sure there was money in there and there were no customers left, plus it would have been hard for anyone but staff to see as it was wedged in the bench seat. We waited far too long to get our food and our glasses stayed void of water 90% of the time. After the third time the waiter came by we finally had to ask for more water. The worst part of this visit was in an encounter while the waiter was taking our orders. My friend only wanted a margarita because she was feeling a little hungover. My other friend and I had already ordered our food. When the waiter asked what she was getting to eat she said, I'll be just fine with the margarita, I'm not ordering food. It's real hard to find GREAT Mexican food here in Eugene! This is not bad food but it's not great food either. I have lunch here every so often because it's close to work and the prices are good! Not sure what it's like for dinner service but the service during lunch really sucks!!!! It always sounds as if it is the employees social hour when I'm there. Last minute call for lunch yesterday - recommended by some folks that live in town. Typical atmosphere for an Americanized Mexican restaurant. Seemed clean and we had wonderful service but the food was absolutely horrible. Fish tacos were recommended by the server (cod) and I should have known better but tried them. I'm not trying to be overly harsh but some of the worst tasting food I've ever had. Fish was overly salty and had a very foul fishy flavor - not at all fresh. Was worried I was getting sick as I boarded a flight later in the evening but made it through. Recommend the restaurant take a very hard look at the fish they use in this menu item. read more

Great chips and salsa. I got a combination plate with chili verde, chili colorado, and a chili relleno. The chili verde was just alright but the chili colorado was very flavorful. The chili rellano was the best I've had--because it didn't have a bunch of breading.The beans and rice were great tasting too. The margaritas weren't strong enough, in fact I was wondering if there was even any tequila in them. The service was terrible as far as attentiveness goes, but when the server was around though, she was very friendly. Though I admittedly have no real concept of authentic Mexican food, I can still vouch for the service which is outstanding. In and out within an hour, the staff was attentive to our needs without being overbearing, our food was served in a timely fashion, and overall we were satisfied with the taste. To compare to other Mexican restaurants in the area, there is one place I've tried that has better tasting fajitas, but what that place lacks is the kind of service you get here. Speaking of taste, I preferred the chicken over the steak in my combo fajita platter. The steak had too much excess fat that made for a chewy texture rather than melt-in-your-mouth-buttery texture. I also would've liked a little more carmelization overall on the meat and vegetables. This is coming from someone who likes really sweet caramelized onions and peppers, especially when cut the size they were in this dish. The price was also pretty competitive. My usual spot is about $16 for a fajita platter and here it was $14 for the combo and $13 for just one meat. If you're in the area, don't be afraid to check this place out, they do a good job. If you're a foodie and get annoyed by partially caramelized vegetables, this might not be the place for you. read more

I'm not sure why this place gets negative reviews. Service is usually always good and the food is not bad at all. When I ate meat I found their combo plates really tasty. Now that I'm a vegetarian their veggie burrito could use work. Seemed like frozen mixed veggies in a tortilla. Peas, carrots, other weird things you really wouldn't want in a burrito. Think they'd benefit from fajita style veggies instead, mushrooms, peppers, etc. This place has been around a long time and I enjoy going there. read more

Is this great Mexican food? No. Is it ok? Sure. The staff is friendly enough, but apparently they don't like selling beer because after they take your initial drinks order, they never have asked if I want another, I always have to flag someone down to get that second bottle. We eat here on a regular basis (several dozen times I suppose) due to the close location to home, so obviously it's not terrible, but if it were any further away, we wouldn't frequent it. The reason I go to this place is for their Chicken verde enchiladas. Last month when I ordered them they came with red sauce. Didn't want to complain so I ate them. Yesterday they came again with red sauce. This time I told the waitress that I had ordered them with verde sauce. She glared at me and came back with some of the red sauce scraped off and green sauce poured on top. The dish was not hot and the sauce tasted canned. Had to ask for chips to go with my grandson's guacamole and his drink was not refilled. Doesn't feel like the same place that it used to be with hot chips, good service and smiles. We were traveling home from our vacation and decided to try a sit down Mexican restaurant. We were a little nervous after seeing the 3 star review, but were pleasantly surprised once we got here. The atmosphere was clean and welcoming and we were seated very quickly. Once our order was taken the food came out about 5 minutes later. The food wasn't anything special but it definitely filled us up. The servers were very helpful with our questions about the menu and brought out a free dessert after our meal. I have always had a positive experience at Jalisco's. The portions are very generous and my food has always been of good quality. I enjoy the large selection of seafood dishes. The fajitas are especially good. If you want something on the cheaper side, the Small Combinationes are still a good amount of food and the burritos are tasty. They are always willing to custom-make my order if I want something slightly different than what is on the menu. The wait staff is very friendly and quick.
