We stopped in on our way through town. The food was awesome! The pancakes were the size of a pizza and staff were all super nice! We will definitely be back.

    the "small" Everything Omelette

Our first visit to Jake's. Three adults for breakfast. Our son had an omelette with chorizo and other ingredients that I forget. He said it was spicier than he had anticipated (he likes spicy) and multiple times between mouthfuls he raved how much he liked it. My wife had scrambled eggs with bacon and 3-stack of buttermilk pancakes. I had the small version of the Everything omelette. Believe me, this "small" omelette is bigger than most large omelettes you will find elsewhere. It was fantastic. I also had bacon and one buttermilk pancake. The bacon is thick and perfectly cooked for us. Now, the pancakes, mind you, are big. Despite their size, they are light and delicious. The server was friendly and attentive, visiting us frequently with coffee, water and anything we needed. The time from order to table was surprisingly quick considering the number of people there. When we got seated initially, we immediately felt comfortable as we looked at the others in the room. We were confident we were among locals who are regulars at Jake's. We know why they would be regulars. I am hesitant to rate a restaurant with 5 stars because considering all the factors of serving a perfect meal with perfect service in a perfect setting and making a customer perfectly satisfied is virtually impossible. Jake's deserves a 5 from this family. We think you will agree.

In what world does two sausage, four scrambled eggs, stuffed hash browns and two (big) pancakes cost $28.50? That was to-go. Without tip. Food is mid at best. Price is absolutely crazy. Go to McKay Cottage or better yet, cook at home.

Simple. No frills kind of restaurant but I enjoyed every moment of it. The dishes are sized big portions so come hungry. We were recommend by some locals to check this place out since it's our first time in Bend, Oregon and I'm so glad we did. The chicken fired steak and eggs were delicious. Be warned when you get there to prepare to wait. No reservations and it's a first come first serve kind of diner.

Camila enjoying a perfectly cooked piece of bacon. Jake's diner is super kid friendly as well.

But this place in Bend... this is serious burger territory. First thing you notice: they're not messing around with the menu. Just burgers that understand what a burger is supposed to be. Double patty. Brioche bun. Cheese doing its job. America. I ordered The O.G. because I respect tradition. American cheese, caramelized onions, burger sauce. Simple system. Works great. Like a pickup truck that starts every time. My buddy got The Popper which is basically what happens when a jalapeño popper and a burger start collaborating. Bacon, jalapeño cream cheese, ranch. It looked like something a scientist made to test the limits of happiness. Fries were solid. Soda cold. No weird nonsense. Just burgers doing burger things. Only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because if I lived closer I would probably eat here too often and that feels medically irresponsible. I'd give it 6 stars if Yelp understood burgers better.

Between the exceptionally good food at Hook and Plow, a most pleasant hotel experience, and a memorable trip to the High Desert Museum; our trip to Bend turned out to be a pleasure instead of the miserableness I expected. Bad news. Good news…read more Bad news first is this: The Drake has been sold to new owners and TONIGHT, APRIL 12, WILL BE THE LAST DAY OF SERVICE at The Drake with the original owner and the current menu. So if you're hankering for the mac n cheese or shrimp n grits or veg burger or any of the menu items, after today they are history. I started eating at The Drake in their first week of business and had many, many, many meals there over the years but things change and so, it seems, has the popularity of The Drake. Now the good news. The new owners are a trio and one of them is also one of the owners of the inestimable Ken's Artisan Pizza in Portland that opened its' Bend location last year. (Go! Even if you have to stand in line for 45 minutes like I did.) The first news of this ownership change was that they would keep the name and current focus of The Drake. But local television news reports that after The Drake closes today it will be reimagined with a new name and design and menu. The opening for the new place is currently said to be Memorial Day weekend. I don't live in Bend anymore but there is still a family home there and so I visit on occasion and knowing a "Ken's" owner is involved in the new enterprise may make me brave the wicked-bad downtown parking to try this new place. In the meantime, I remember how fun and delicious it could be to eat at The Drake.

I now realize I've been driving the extra distance for subpar food for the last two years when I could have been enjoying Sunriver all this time. If I'm being honest, it reminds me of how Pizza Hut used to taste in the 90s and I mean that as a huge compliment.
