We didn't get the chance to try the restaurant because they were closed, however we did get some items from the deli. The selection was very small, but what they had was pretty good. I purchased homemade brotchens (German rolls) which were fresh and very good. I also bought some smoked ham which was underwhelming and lacked much flavor. When I asked the proprietor which brand of German butter she recommended, she didn't seem like she wanted to be bothered talking to me. I also bought a German pastry called Bienenstitch which was fresh and very tasty. Overall I'd would say that I'd come again for certain specific items, but don't expect a big selection. read more

Very european quaint. I had sauerbraten and a nice dry wine. Entree came with soup or salad. I had mushroom soup and it was excellent and plentiful. The red cabbage almost made me cry because my late grandmother always made it. All was delicious. I should mention they have homemade soft pretzels for appetizers that looked delicious although I did not try. Apple Strudel was good with fresh whipped cream. There is a working cuckoo clock inside which is so appropriate. German people are a dying breed as they say and it is unfortunate. Bf saw this place on our way to Terra Nova and was all excited because he had eaten there once for lunch with his old coworkers and couldn't remember where it was at exactly (a year or so later) We ran our errands and came back for a late lunch. The place is very small and during covid-19, I recommend calling ahead for a reservation to make sure you get seated right away. We lucked out and we were seated right away. They only seem to have a very simple lunch menu and they close at 4pm. I recommend getting Schnitzel and spaetzle smothered in their mushroom gravy. You will not regret it! The croquettes was the right amount of crunch and fluffiness in a bite and it went with the rest of our meal. I'm a big fan of German food and this place exceeded my expectations. Some of the negative reviews seem to be from people who aren't familiar with the cuisine or with dining in a European restaurant. If you're looking for hearty, delicious, and authentic German food this restaurant is easily the best in town. The menu is large with many selections (including vegetarian selections!) and the beer menu covers all of the bases. If you ordered correctly you probably won't have room for dessert but definitely get some to take home. Everything is good, so I suggest getting a few sides that aren't in your entrée - the potato salad, dumplings, and red cabbage are some of my favorites. Some tips: make a reservation, and do so at least a day in advance. If you're planning to have coffee, let the waitress know when you arrive. Don't be in a hurry because this is food and an environment where you're supposed to take your time and savor it. read more

We've driven by this restaurant for years and finally stopped in for dinner and I'm so glad that we did! It's adjoining the German Deli on the south side of East Bay in Largo near the S. Lake Dr. intersection. You wouldn't expect to find such a cozy restaurant from it's exterior. As a big heads-up, please call ahead and make a reservation. There's very limited seating (10 tables+/-) and we just lucked out the night we went. The interior is comfortable with a lot of wood paneling. For entrées, we opted for the Wiener Schnitzel and Hunter's Schnitzel (the same as the Weiner Schnitzel except it has mushroom gravy). They came with a soup or salad with a veggie and a starch. We got the House Salad and the Goulash. Both starters were large portions and awesome. The House Salad was a composed plate of a variety of delicious salad types. The Goulash was actually the star of the entire evening's meal. You've got to try it!! The appetizers were augmented by a large basket of a variety of freshly baked breads with an interesting butter spread. We both ordered the spaetzel as our starch. The schnitzels were ample portions and perfectly cooked. (see pic). Everything else was perfectly cooked, too. We were eye-balling the dessert menu but honestly we were stuffed! We should have started with the desserts! They have Apple Strudel and real Black Forest Cake!!! I can absolutely recommend this restaurant! I'm German and know German food. I can honestly say that this place will provide you with some basic traditional food. It is good and if you aren't German born and raised and know better or cook from scratch, this is a good place to try some German food. The portions are good and I like that a German trained butcher makes the meat cuts and knows we like our Schnitzel a certain size. We didn't eat the Weißwurst or Bratwürste this Time, but have had them and they are good (I am slightly biased as my Papa is a Metzger-Butcher and makes all meat products better!). It's a great place to get the German attitude, yes the waitress made me move where I sat, because this time i was alone, and the place is small, and they need to keep larger tables open, but I get it . My Bier was good and overall I got a basic German meal better than at the Hofbrau Haus in St Pete. Atmosphere is good, but could use some friendliness for the non-German wanting to get to know German Heritage. Over several visits I've noticed that the staff does not try to assist non-German customers or customers unfamiliar with German food to explain the various menu items. We had goulash and it was spiced and filled with meat carrots and potato. It is a meal in itself. The other soup we ate was cream of leak. A basket of crusty bread and rye bread served with seasoned butter. The wiener schnitzel came with a choice of German potato salad which is mildly spiced with mustard. The red cabbage is cooked in apple cider vinegar which gives it a sweet and sour flavor. The spatzle noodles is like a thick spaghetti that tastes great with the brown gravy. Trapped in our LaQuinta, meals had been our main way of getting out with our infant son, but at this time of day (running late after a foray to a local park).... our son was due for a melt down, and we had no time to spare. We went to the nearby German Restaurant II, ensconced in a tiny strip mall plaza west of nowhere. Upon being warmly greeted by the hostess and being asked if we had reservations.... we were summarily turned away back to the parking lot. There were two empty tables, but we were assured they were fully booked. For lack of options, entirely stupified, and with a ticking time bomb back in his car seat, we headed to Jägerstüble. Holy shit you guys, even with only a single occupied table, at barely 5:40pm, make no mistake, this hostess made sure we knew she was DOING US A SOLID by giving us a table with no reservation. You guys, this place is fucking wild. The waitress gave us one menu at a time, drinks, then food. Really insisted we get an appetizer (we didn't), and sent me back to my car for my ID. That said, while all the food was really salty, we enjoyed our generous portions of Jagerschnitzel and Weinerschnitzel, soups, salads (the salad was probably the star of the show, honestly), and delicious bread basket with garlic herb butter. Make no mistake, the third star in this review is purely for the schadenfreude we got watching this hostess thoroughly harass other patrons without reservations. Great food terrible service! They belittled us and made us feel terrible. We were 30 min early to our reservation because we live an hour away and didn't know about traffic and didn't know if we needed to check in beforehand. The lady said "you're early! We can't sit you!" I said that was completely fine and that we don't mind waiting outside and she said no I'll go ahead and sit you. They got us drinks. Then 20 min go by and I asked if we could view the menu and she said no because we can't put our food in cause we were early. Which is fine but just wanted to look over the food-first time there. Then we finally get menus and now it's another 15 min or 20 min later and she said "Ok now I can take your order-that's what happens when you're early!" Like what?! Then they brought bread to our table. Couldn't we have gotten the bread with our drinks?? I asked to have the check with our food cause we were on a time crunch and she gave me this dirty look. Excellent German food. It's not fast but, at least they understand how to properly charge guests. The pretzels are amazing! The Jagerschnitzel & purple cabbage are delicious & fresh. They even have a store. You can get fresh bratwurst or even dinners to bake at home. We had not been here in awhile, we had been going to the other place. That place is being run poorly so we switched back to this one... WOW!! I guess there was a reason... divine intervention telling us, go try the German deli & restaurant again. Thankfully, I did.
