Finally visited for the first time with the recommendation from my colleague! First impression was a little "eh..." because the building is quite old. As you get seated, you'll feel a sense of authenticity and at-home kind of atmosphere. Service is excellent, staff are very friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we ordered tonight (see photos). Portions are great and was cooked authentically well! I'm from Toronto so I'm picky when it comes to Chinese food, but I really liked this place! Highly recommend to anyone looking for an AUTHENTIC chinese food spot! read more

TL;DR Phone order. Delivery fee stated as $6 but $15 was charged. Decent food. Ordered via phone an hour before closing. After taking order, they asked for credit card number over the telephone. Provided credit number, expiry date, and security code. This restaurant does not equip drivers with debit/credit machines. Restaurant stated $6 delivery fee. Upon receiving my order, I noticed the fee was really $15. Really? I wouldn't recommend ordering unless you're willing to be lied to and overpay for a delivery fee. With respect to the fried noodles, standard - nothing exceptional. I will note that there was a variety of veggies though, more than other places. Eggplant was ok. Deep fried tofu was delightful. It had the perfect amount of salt and heat to it. But the contain was half full? First time ordering so I don't have anything to benchmark. Would I recommend take out delivery? Disclaimer: This review is based on my experiences dining before the pandemic. My family has been to this place a couple of times over the past few decades and I can see why; Jadeland has a generally good standard. I invited my friends here once and they seemed to agree. Once we are able to dine in again, you'll find that the atmosphere is small and basic. Don't let it distract from the quality of the food and service. Some regular dishes we choose include the shrimp fried rice and duck congee. Service is already friendly, but I found that it'd be better if you are able to communicate in Mandarin. On a snowy Sunday our plan was to go to a restaurant across the street which was closed, our second option same. No choice but select one quickly we saw the sign for this which said Schewan and assumed would give us some spicy food options on a cold day. Seated quickly and menus gives and complimentary green tea (very weak). But waited for someone to come and take our order. We had catch the waitresses attention to come to us to take order although the restaurant being not busy at all and them doing something over the bar/cash counter. Ordered a Veg Fried Rice and a Spicy Hot Tofu. The food did arrive in a reasonable time. The Fried Rice was just some basic veggies and soy sauce with rice. Not flavourful at all. Big disappointment. The Spicy Hot Tofu same. Lots of sauce with soy and tofu, but was very disappointed with flavour. The Chilli sauce had to be requested and sadly even that did not justice. Too mild for for our taste. Prices reasonable and service not at par. The bill took so long as well. And when it came I had my card ready, but no one to take care of the payment. Food and service disappointing. read more

Jadeland I have not gone here for years, and decided to get some comfort Chinese food, plus it was late, so I was hoping they had a night menu (which usally have smaller portions so you can try more dishes)! I went around 8pm and it was quite full, and they did have a night menu! I tried the duck congee, fried squid tubes, and two full size dishes; sizzling iron plate chicken and veggies, as well as a claypot of bean curd pockets and fish (with bones). When we asked the server for suggestions on what their "star/best" dishes were, they were not really helpful and said it depends on what you want. Thoughts: - Duck congee: while eating this, I realized it was starting to go bad as it had a sour taste. I think the rice used was too old. However, the addition of duck in congee is a nice change (I have not seen this elsewhere). I wanted to return the dish but decided against it since it wasn't very expensive anyways :P - Fried squid tubes: these were delicious; eat them while they are hot! The batter was slightly too thick for my taste, but the salt/pepper spices on top were perfect. Too bad the portion was somewhat small. - Sizzling iron plate chicken and veggies: this dish had a light taste and tasted quite healthy. Although I know the sizzling plate is just for show, I still wished the "sizzling" noise was louder...it was quite anticlimactic! - Claypot of bean curd and fish: be careful; if you don't want fish bones, don't pick this dish! The flavours went well with the ingredients; probably my favourite dish of the night! Their tea is really weak, which I find odd...please put more tea leaves in! read more

I'm giving this place a 1 star rating because the first time went there, there were 3 guys sitting at the table beside us, one of the guys ordered wine, got drunk, and was shouting, making a scene, drawing attention to himself the whole time! So eventually he was kicked out!! Then the second day I went there me and my parents had dinner, my dad ordered a bowl of rice, and at the end the waiter who didn't speak english very well, charged us extra fro the rice!!!!! Ordered the Szechuan crisp beef with sauce. The beef was extremely dry and literally tough as leather. Likely old overcooked beef that they re-fried and tossed in some sauce. The Hot and Sour soup with chicken, although good going in, had me sitting on the toilet all night. If you are the type of person that loves their body and cares what goes into it, this isn't the place for you. Don't let my gastrointestinal pains go in vain. A solid Chinese food restaurant, with some very solid dishes, but others that are a much less good. Standouts: Spring roll - crispy but flaky outside, not too dry or too wet inside. The spices are fantastic. Hot and Sour Soup - Really great version of the classic soup without being too oily. Shrimp Fried Rice - Tasty morsels of pork and some lovely aromatic spices. Unfortunately the mains were less good. While the beef in the beef and broccoli was tender, it didn't taste like much. The Szechuan shrimp was really quite bad. The shrimp was overly fishy and the sauce too saccharine for eating. While the decor isn't anything special, the good dishes were good enough to come back and try some more. We just got back from Jadeland after what was a disappointing experience. All the dishes we ordered were bland, it felt as if a key ingredient was missing. Vegetable spring roll: crispy, but very oily. Hot and soup soup: very very bland. It had spurts of hot but overall just a mild sweet taste. There was no tang to it. Adding soy sauce didn't help much. Greens with mushrooms: beautiful presentation, but I was surprised when I bit into the first mushroom with great anticipation only to discover that they tasted like canned mushrooms (and probably were) I've never experienced this before. The sauce again was really bland. Fried noodles with mixed veggies: I hoped this dish would save the day, but again there was no flavour and the only thing that helped it was the taste of the fried noodles which taste good no matter what. We were the only ones in the restaurant (aside from a couple who came in about ten minutes after we got there), so the lack of flavour cannot have been blamed on a dinner rush. We took leftovers home and had to stop by the grocery store to buy mushroom flavouring so we could give the food some taste and not let it go to waste. On a positive note, the portion sizes were good and so was the presentation of the food. The service was friendly. read more

We dropped by Jadeland for an early dinner, around 4:00pm on Sunday. It's a very small restaurant, so I'm not sure how it is during peak hours, but when we walked in, 3 tables were already occupied. We were seated right away and brought some tea. We selected five dishes from the menu. The waitress confirmed one of the item as being steamed rice (with prawns and Chinese greens), asking if we had wanted fried rice instead. Which we did, so she asked exactly what we wanted. We specified fried rice with Chinese greens, and so she scribbled it on our order sheet for us. The dishes were good. The best was the beef with rice noodles in black bean sauce. It was spiced just right and the sauce was really delicious. Highly recommend this dish! The sweet & sour pork was a bit too sour for our liking, the vegetable and the shrimp dishes were good, nothing special. The fried rice was ordinary. The portions were massive so we were happy to take the left overs home with us. The price was decent for the amount we had ordered, the service was quick and the waitress was friendly. For these reasons I would return to this Chinese restaurant! I would just caution on its small size if you are hoping to go with a group of 6 or more. read more

Hands down the best authentic asian food in Ottawa. Don't be fooled by the sketchiness of the appearance of the outside (don't judge a book by it's cover!). The size of the place is what you would expect in downtown Ottawa, so sometimes you will have to wait a bit probably 30mins at max. The service can be a bit better as we waited a while from being seated to taking our order. we ordered all my favourite dishes that my parents would make and they tasted the same if not better! I find with a lot of the places in downtown Ottawa you overpay for the portions you get. For the 3 of us we ended up paying $20 each and we were stuffed with leftovers to take home... overall, nothing beats asian food that tastes like home! read more

Unforgivably bland. Friendly service and warm setting, though. Having heard great things from friends, we were excited to visit Jadeland to taste some quality dishes. However, we found the dishes to be largely devoid of flavour. Looking for something different, we ordered lychee chicken, eight treasures, and duck wonton soup. We probably ordered the wrong things, but each dish disappointed in its own way. The soup was visually appealing - a mix of thin noodles, bright broccoli, steamed wontons, and duck pieces. However, the soup lacked any seasoning whatsoever. The duck was also still somewhat chewy. The eight treasures dish, a combination of seafood and meats, was certainly promising. The dish was generous but, again, lacked flavour. The lychee chicken, though also generous, was sickly sweet. In that sense, it seemed closer to a dessert than a main course. Perhaps Jadeland's more popular dishes are better but we really didn't enjoy our visit. Ultimately, if a restaurant chooses to offer a dish, it should taste good or at least have some flavour. read more

Jadeland has been around forever, and there's a reason why. The food is consistently good. A few favorites include the taro duck, the fu jian fried rice and the pork with preserved vegetables. It can be incredibly busy but the servers are friendly and helpful with building a menu if you're feeling adventurous. read more

Favourite place for chinese food in Ottawa. I always frequent the following: Fish maw soup- still don't get why it's called that when the choices are chicken or crab. Who cares though, it's fabulous! Try adding some red vinegar. It adds a bit of a sour taste to it. Seafood fried noodle- really crispy, great amount of seafood paired with a delicious sauce. Gives you the option to smother your noodles in sauce to soften it, or to keep it crispy by adding just the seafood. Assorted meats and seafood rice- a bit on the oily side, but what chinese fried rice isn't? A good size, not too salty. B.B.Q chicken in house sauce- YES to the house sauce! This chicken big in portion, good to share for a family. Staff is friendly, and it's family owned (I love that). My family and I have been coming here for years. Even went the day after Prime Minister Harper came. I just missed him. Darn. Check this place out! read more

When my wife and I have a hankering for a Chinese meal out, this is one of two restaurants we return to in Ottawa. This is the type of restaurant I grew up eating at in Vancouver. The menu seems to go forever (no French Fries on this menu), the servers are Cantonese speaking, and the money is not spent on the decor. The food is good, the service is great, and the price is reasonable. This is one of those restaurants that you might see Guy Fieri visiting on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. read more

The black bean with beef on flat rice noodles is my go-to for any red meat cravings! So affordable and the people who work there are super nice. You order from a few things on the menu and they eventually bring it. Not a repeat. All dishes needed additional hot oil to make them taste like something. This place is good. It was the first Chinese restaurant I've been to in Ottawa and I frequent it for the huge portions, fair prices and good quality food they offer. I've been for dim sum (delicious), but I've also tried their crispy beef, sweet and sour chicken balls and chilli chicken (I think it's called) and all were really good. In their defense, It was pretty busy tonight: the waitress forgot to take my husband's order, we waited 40 mins before our first course was served and the rice order was forgotten entirely. I don't know what other reviews are talking about. The food is amazing, the portions are huge and the price is right. Each time I visit Ottawa this is my go to restaurant. They have hands down the best General Tao chicken that I've ever tasted. I've brought many friends with me to this restaurant and they all agree that it is completely amazing. Other than that, the schezuan shrimps, the cantonese style noodles, the spicy schezuan soup, their egg rolls (and the list goes on) are completely amazing. I don't know how authentic the food is but it agrees perfectly with my taste buds. I have had a few dishes that were just okay though but the ones mentioned above are fantastic! Jadeland has been a fav of mine since I was a student. The food is really enjoyable and I have never had issues when I visited the resto. My deliveries have had the odd error but I'd advise going to the resto. Deliveries get pretty pricey after tip and delivery. The flavours of all my orders were always on point as well as the amount. The combination meals to the appetizers/soups, to individual options like the General Tao chicken or crispy beef- all good. Pricey but highly recommend when you have the cravings! read more

I can't tell you how the food is because the service at this place was so horrible we left before our orders were taken.... Though we were there for about 40 minutes. We were completely ignored and watched as other groups of people came in and were seated and served right away. I've never been to a restaurant where the waitress actually looked annoyed by the presence of more customers. I will NEVER be going back there and I would not reccommend it to anyone.
