It's a classic Chinese restaurant setting and decor. They have dim sum on order as most places do and the food comes out fairly quickly. It's fresh, and hot. It's fairly good. Not Toronto quality but good enough and satisfies a craving. Service is ok. read more

First time eat something looks like apprentice made food. First time see shrimp in birds nest not made by shredded taro as birds nest. It is like 1 big wonton sheet. Hot pepper and garlic ribs very wrongly made. Seems rib cover with like some egg flour and deep fry. Stir fried egg and shrimp rice (not in menu) like raw egg mixed in rice with shrimp. Chicken is tasteless with sauce. Iron pan with beef is disappointing and only can taste hot black pepper. The decor in the restaurant is good. The server is good . Will not go back. read more

Came on Canada Day. It was open. Yay it was open! So brownie points for that. It's also somewhat off the beaten path but everything in this little city seems close. What can I say about Ottawa Eats? It's a far comparison to Toronto and GTA eats but I didn't dislike this place. This place had one full table of seniors when we arrived at 5:45. They seemed lovely and seemed like regulars. The service was a little slow considering how empty the place was but a few tables did fill up during our time there. We ordered the crispy beef, 1/2 a Peking duck and white rice. The crispy beef worked for my teen's pallet. Legit crunchy and enjoyable crispness with a thick sweet sauce which coated well (and wasn't swimming in sauce which is proper). It worked well with a couple bowls of plain rice. He was happy to have a little bit of tasty Asian food. The Peking duck was ok. Not the prettiest. Not the nicest display but it was alright. The duck itself was cooked alright but you could tell based on the skin it wasn't going to be a slam dunk. Nonetheless, it was nice having Asian food that was alright. It only comes as one course - Peking duck with the wheat wraps. There is no 2nd course option with lettuce wraps, nor do they offer. When asked after it was served if there were options, they said you can opt for a soup made with the bones for an extra $10 but since it wasn't requested, they tossed it. Note, there is no option or mention on the menu nor did the staff say. For Ottawa Chinese food, it was solid. I'd go back. read more

Authentic Chinese restaurant with very reasonable prices! I've ordered from here a ton of times via UberEats (especially for their Peking duck @ $29). Finally found some time this evening & decided to dine in with a colleague tonight. Service is good, food is authentic, tastes great, and seating is comfortable. Highly recommend if you're looking for a some good Chinese food in Ottawa! read more

This is one of the best Dim Sum places in Ottawa (emphasizing OTTAWA). I come here with my family once every 2-3 weeks. Food is always fresh. And good customer services. Reasonably priced ($25 per person). All dim sum dishes are good. One dish I like the most (ordered from the menu) is the (sizzling dish) Stuffed Eggplant with Black Bean Sauce. read more

More 3.5 stars. On this Thursday night, the restaurant wasn't full. We ordered spicy cabbage, satay beef on a hot plate and sea food in a birds nest. We found the cabbage a bit soggy, the beef slices were very thin, and surprisingly, there was no fried noodle bird nest which the sea food would have been. The seafood was in a birds' nest shaped porcelain bowl. The service was a bit slow given not having a lot of patrons but the waiters or waitress were very welcoming. Good for groups. This is one of my favourite dim sum spots in Ottawa. I find that the cook and the flavour of their food to be one of the best here. The prices per dish is on average around $5-6. I've gone in to dine a few times over the year but since COVID-19, they've only been offering take-out. I wish their online takeout platforms had their dim sum menu but going in person to order isn't too bad either. It ends up being about a 20-30 min wait. I highly recommend their ginger squid since it's a dish that isn't always offered at other dim sum places. But also everything else is pretty good too! This will continue to be my go-to dim sum place that is local and close to home. read more

Beijing Legend Restaurant - Various dim sum dishes - Chinese Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

I really wanted to try the Peking duck that they're known for, but I also couldn't order just that (because I am greedy and gluttonous, obviously), so I also got dim sum. My husband wasn't too interested in the duck this time around, so he got the "Plate Three" combination plate, which came with chicken fried rice, chicken balls, kung pao chicken, and an egg roll. He found the chicken balls were a little doughy and over-fried since they were split, but still good and he just wished there was more sweet and sour sauce. It was a very generous portion of rice, but the kung pao chicken was mostly onions. He didn't feel it was worth the $17 price tag, higher than typical combination plates elsewhere. Since it was just me and the babe eating everything else, I only got a half Peking duck, which came with 12 pancakes, green onions, cucumbers, and one small container of hoisin sauce. The duck itself was very tasty, not too fatty, some slices a bit thinner but overall okay thickness. I just wish there was more! There were two layers of duck slices and I expected much more for half a duck. Maybe I'm just used to roast duck with the bones so it makes it seem like more? I used maybe three pancakes in total for myself, stretching it out even. The shredded? green onions and thinly sliced cucumbers were great and aplenty, and there were more pancakes and more hoisin than I needed. The pancakes were thinner than I expected, but also stayed fresher longer than I expected instead of drying up super fast like others do. The Peking duck was great to finally try, but in my humble opinion, the $30 price tag is quite steep for the amount you get. At least baby got to try it, too! Kid eats well, I'll say that much, haha. I was disappointed in how minimal the selection of dim sum was on UberEats, especially after reading Anita C.'s review and wanting to try more. I always get the same stuff whenever I order dim sum, though, so I tried some other dishes. I ordered the deep fried pork and vegetable dumplings, turnip cake, and deep-fried taro. There are two "Taro Deep Fried" on the menu (B8 and B9), so I had to Google the characters to make sure I got the one with the texture I was craving, which was B9 (芋头饺). Both the deep-fried taro and pork and vegetable dumplings were great and full of flavour. The pork and vegetable dumplings were super greasy, but I didn't mind. The turnip cake was good, though I swear they gave us the the other B8 "Taro Deep Fried" (芋头糕) instead lol, which is actually taro cake. It had chunks of taro in it and Chinese sausage, which I've never had in turnip cake, hence the suspicion, and they do look very similar. Either way, it was saltier than I expected, but still good, and thicker and a "meatier" texture than other "cakes", which I liked. Our little guy liked the cake, but I only gave him a bit due to the salt. I also ordered the stir-fried bok choy and Chinese mushrooms out of necessity, since I should probably eat some vegetables lol. It was actually gai lan (Chinese broccoli) instead of bok choy, and I think shiitake mushrooms. They were also good, cooked well, but this dish was much saltier, so I actually rinsed it for the babe and didn't eat too much of the sauce myself. I would highly recommend eating this with rice instead of just with dim sum or other dishes. All in all, the dishes were definitely saltier than some other places, but more flavourful others as well. I'd like to try this restaurant again, but maybe stick to my go-tos and more wallet-friendly dishes. read more

We were a group of 7 seated at a round table with very attentive service. We all enjoyed our food, sampling four of their most popular dishes. We raved about the General Taos Chicken, creamed corn soup, the most, however all four dishes were outstanding. We admired the cleanliness of the restaurant, the abundant parking, and the traditional Chinese style throughout. We agreed that this restaurant will be our go to place from now on. read more

Ordered delivery from this place. I got the classic general tso chicken, a personal favourite of crispy beef and something new to try with Shanghai noodles. The crispy beef doesn't have the right texture and the sauce is more sweet and tangy; doesn't have much spice to it. It still tastes good. The general Tso is the biggest disappointment. It's battered but isn't fried which leads to me believe it was cooked from frozen, along with the too-sweet sauce with no kick. It's closer to orange chicken than the classic general tso. I don't know what to make of the Shanghai noodles. The flavour is kind of bland. It's my first time having it, but based on my experience with the other two, I don't think this is what it's supposed to be like. I've had better luck with other restaurants. This place is cheaper with good sized portions but I won't be ordering from here again in future. read more

We moved to Centre town about three years ago and haven't found a Chinese takeout that we liked-until last night. WARNING: The health inspector needs to be called! There is mold on the ceiling in the woman's washroom. There was a fan in our private "vip" room that looked to be 5 years old and never cleaned ever! There was a ton of dust and dirt all over it. Not what you want to be looking at while eating dinner. Was within a 3 foot radius of our food. I thought we were in "VIP" !? My family and I went here for dinner this past weekend. When I entered the restaurant, I felt it was very smoky. It didn't seem to have very good ventilation. We ordered the $198 special dinner set(set B). The shrimp in the fried shrimp balls tasted sour. The lamb with bean curd casserole was bad. The lamb had a very weird taste and the bean curd tasted raw. The peking pork chops was so dry that it was impossible to chew. The 乾燒伊麵 was not dry and had too much gravy. For the 糖水, the taro with tapioca was watery and had no taste. I think the only good dish was the vermicelli with scallops with garlic and the fried milk at the end for dessert. It was a disappointing meal. read more

It seems like they are much better than before now, as the cook/owners have changed quite a few times over the years. I came with family and friends, and we were 10 people in total; if you book a private room for dining, note that karaoke is included and is free! We chose the set menu B for $200, which had lobster (set menu A has peking duck). The dishes came fairy quickly, and most were really good in quality, although there were a couple of misses. Some highlights: - Fried shrimp/seafood balls: these have a crab claw inside, so you can hold onto it, dip it into the thick sweet/sour sauce, and enjoy it. There was an abundance of seafood flavour, and it was fried perfectly! - Lobster: the star of the show; I chose the ginger/scallion variety, and it comes with 2 lobsters. I really wish they put noodles on the bottom to soak up the delicious sauce (as Ng's Kitchen does). The taste was good, but Ng's kitchen's version is tastier. - Sichuan spicy 8 treasures: this is a huge casserole dish, and it came with lamb (which could have been more tender), bean curds, chilies, and nappa. It was nicely spiced and was fragrant, but the lamb lacked flavour and was quite tough to chew. - Fish: it was a huge fish that was fried and coated in thick, dark red sauce. Unfortunately, the sauce was WAY too sweet, which everyone agreed on. If it was saltier, or made a different way, this would have been a lot better. - Oysters(?) and vermicelli: this was one of my favourites! There was so much flavour, and there was plenty of the seafood, so it was perfect to eat as a base with the other dishes. - Fried rice with peas/sausage: this was made surprisingly well! You could taste the char from the wok on the rice, which made it really enjoyable and homey. - Dessert was fried banana pieces, fried milk, and coconut/taro soup. The taro soup is always my favourite way to end a Chinese meal, and the fried milk was delicious! The bananas should have been warm, but they were cold pieces. Service was pretty attentive considering we ate in a private dining room; the servers come to switch your plates once during the meal, and re-fill the tea often. Overall, most dishes were done very well, and I would be back. Just be careful as some dishes are not as interesting or flavorful! read more

I have visited this restaurant twice in the last month. The first time I waited 30 minutes and had to interrupt one of the servers as she passed my table to get served. The food took another 30 minutes to arrive. The next time I waited 15 minutes before standing up beside my table to get someone's attention. I waited 40 minutes after ordering, watching parties that arrived after me eating their food. I gave up and left. Both times I was alone. Perhaps they just don't like single tables. I'm not going to comment on the food because at this point that's irrelevant. Won't be going back (and they probably don't care). read more

Came here for dim sum on Chinese New Year with a group of friends. The place is pretty easy to find and we were seated almost immediately. Thankfully we got in just before the rush! I really dislike dim sum in Ottawa so my mind wasn't going to be changed...but funny enough as we ordered plate after plate I noticed something. I didn't hate it. Why? The wraps weren't overly sticky or dry. The food not overly oily and the hot sauce pretty delicious! Though the food was decent the dim menu is limited compared to the 2 big Chinese restaurants in Chinatown and Mandarin Olgilvie. This place is now officially my go to stop if I ever want dim sum, I enjoyed it that much compared to all the other places in Ottawa. It's comparable to some of the places in Toronto we go to when we want to avoid the lineups of some of the better dim sum restaurants. As for what I'd recommend? I'd say ask the servers what they have and if it sounds like something you might like you should definitely give it a shot. There were 9 of us and our bill came to $88! I can't speak for the Canadian Chinese food offered here but the dim sum...not bad at all. If you order the Canadian Chinese food...you might as well just order the burger on the menu. It's probably going to suck :P read more

Coming here for years! Eggplant dim sum, sticky rice and ginger squid are excellent.

Great food! Great service! I almost allowed the kryptonite of some of the bad reviews of this place keep me away but I had been there once before and my memory was foggy but was positive, so I needed to try it again my self. G13 - "Super Spicy Chicken in a Hot Pot". This was a fantastic dish!! It took me back to Beijing for sure. It is 1" pieces of Bone-In Chicken in a Sichuan flavored broth served in a pot over a small flame. Although the name says Super Spicy, if you are a fan of spicy food you would describe the heat level as Medium. As long as you are OK with working around the fact that there's bones in each piece then this is a very tasty authentic Sichuan dish. I also had the Hot & Sour soup and a vegetable dish that were both good. The service was very attentive and they clearly wanted to and did give excellent service. If you're looking for some new flavors then give Beijing Legend a try. P.S. I think I had the M9-Spicy Beef Slice Pot - on a previous visit and I think it was also fantastic .... that was a few beers ago so I'll have to go back and refresh my memory. read more

Sorry, but this restaurant doesn't live up to its name. We entered one weekday late lunch and it was seriously understaffed. There were TWO people working in the busy restaurant, and three huge tables had yet to be cleaned and cleared. My parents saw friends seated, and they told us they had been waiting a looong time for food. We ordered immediately, 3 simple rice/noodle dishes, and still waited 20 minutes. The food was fine but did not stand out. We also ordered 2 dim sum dishes, that were thankfully dessert dishes, because they came out from the kitchen when we were ready to pay. I saw other tables and takeout orders waiting for 35 minutes for food. Also...air quality super smoky in there. They need some proper ventilation. read more

The good: The setting is pretty and comfortable. The staff was helpful and nice. The garlic vegetables that came with the lunch special were fantastic. Very tasty. The bad: Pretty much the rest of the food. The General Tso's chicken was hard and chewy, even though the flavour was decent (I could not get myself to finish it). The Szechuan shrimp was bland and tasteless (we did not finish it). The wonton soup was the worst I have had in Ottawa. I adore wonton soup, but this was so bland I didn't even finish it. We both added salt to try to salvage it. I complained to the server, who apologized for my not liking the meal but seemed a bit flustered and didn't seem to know how to properly deal with an unhappy customer. I will not be back. read more

Discovered this while in Ottawa visiting family. What a pleasant surprise to find a truly authentic dim sum restaurant in Ottawa. It's big and spacious. Cantonese speaking staff. This is not a Beijing restaurant! I repeat this is NOT a Beijing restaurant! We went to Ottawa downtown and searched online, me, I personally came from Beijing. When I saw the restaurant, I was so excited and drove 20 min from downtown. When I entered the restaurant, the waitress speaks Cantonese and when I opened the menu, it's a TYPICAL Cantonese restaurant! Everything is a bit over oiled compared to average Chinese restaurant. We ordered a dried rice and it's way oily for me. So I asked for ketchup, the waitress replied to me "no ketchup" in a impolite manner. Excuse me, here is Canada. Worst food of any kind I've ever had. Ordered delivery (over $50 for two) - delivery was quick but food was inedible. It's going in the compost bin. "Crispy" Beef was one coagulated mass of chewy, tasteless meat. Wonton in the soup had a big piece of gristle in the middle. S & S Pork was mostly gristle and pork was tough, but worse is that it tasted spoiled. We only ate a bit because it was so awful but my stomach was upset all the next day. What a disappointment. I was so excited when I saw this place. Lovely decor and space however the buck stops there. The absolute worst excuse of a Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. No service at all...none. It's like you have to beg to get what you need while you are there. You end up feeling like you are an inconvenience for the staff. Even the guy at the table behind us had to get up from his table and walk over to ask someone for a drink because he couldn't get service. The egg drop soup was deplorable and nothing more than a watered down broth with vegetables thrown in. I get better Chinese food at a take out place near me. Never again. read more

This write up is based on Feb 7th experience. I booked a table for 6 at Chinese New Year eve dinner on Feb 7th with some friends. I have been here for dim sum and it is not bad. Since I couldn't get home to Vancouver, I thought a nice dinner would be appropriate. They sat us at a table where 2 of our chairs had sticky food stuck on them and then food that had spilled all over the floor beside one of the chairs. Needless to say, my friends were not impressed as their first venture into this resto. I ordered 8 dishes for our group. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes and we had not yet received our first course. It was busy but wasn't packed since we arrived at 5:30. I had asked about our first course 45 minutes in because we saw other tables getting course after course and all she said was that they were very busy. With my friends being very hungry, we just left and explained to wait staff why we were leaving. We ended up going for sushi, but this experience embarrassed me because I had invited guest for New Years eve and I had told them how impressive the meals were and this turned out to be anti-climactic. New Years Eve dinner ruined but salvaged as we ended up at 10 Sushi for all you can eat! read more

What an unpleasant experience! We got there at 7pm on a sunday afternoon. We got the table right away however service ended there. I called our waitress over twice to take our order. She acknowledged both times but never came. Finally, my wife had to run her down before she came. The food came 30 mins later. While waiting for our food another table got so frustrated with waiting they stood up and screamed 'racist' as they exited the restaurant. They saw other chinese eaters who came after them but got the food before them. I think they mistook incompetence for racism. We ordered an off-the-menu item that came much later. It costed us $25.00 that one dish of fried fish cutlets in black bean sauce. Outrageous since we weren't told about the price. My bad for not asking first. One of the worst dining experiences of my life. I went out last night with a group of six and couldn't believe the service. It took an hour and fifteen minutes for any dish to arrive and we ordered appetizers and mains. The appetizers showed up one by one and the soup was really strange. Very gelatinous. I ordered a hot and sour seafood soup. The hot and sour was delicious but it was obvious the "seafood" was added at the last second. It was very pungeant seafood and just tiny hunks of mystery meat. It was also stone cold. So I hailed a waiter (they run around everywhere and never stop to ask you anything) and asked him to change it to a regular hot and sour soup. Twenty minutes later a waitress came back with the same soup! And then she said I wasn't allowed to change my order. I was extremely angry by that. Our dishes were all gelatinous with corn starch and not very tasty. We ordered rounds of drinks that never showed up. The staff was rude and inconsiderate of their customers. read more

Came here for dim sum lunch on a recent weekday; it got about half full while we were there. They do have a lady with a cart but there is also the option of ordering off an English photo menu. They don't always have everything available though. Lots of standard items like turnip radish cake, egg tarts, little pork ribs (salty and somewhat fatty... right up my alley), tripe (really good here), "phoenix claws" (chicken feet - not bad), har gow (wrappers too thick), and chicken in sticky rice (a little dry and under seasoned). They also had something I've never seen before - white siu mai, which is basically made with shrimp instead of pork, so it's very similar to the har gow - it was quite good as it was made with large chunks of shrimp. We also ordered the stir fried beef with flat noodles - that was ok, not enough wok hei for me haha. Overall, a decent authentic Chinese restaurant, though from reading other people's reviews, it seems like it probably has separate menus for Asians vs non-Asians, which is too bad. read more
