Filling with Chinese sausages and dried shrimp
Timothy L.

A regular no-frills bakery in Brooklyn Chinatown. Nice tasty steamed sticky rice roll with Chinese sausage and dry shrimps inside the rice. Other steamed dishes are available but I like the steamed sticky rice roll here than other places. The sponge cake with meat floss is also good. The store front is drably looking; nothing eye catching but like places with good food, it's the food that speak for themselves.

Har gow on the go!
Ans C.

Your average Asian bakery that serves up rice dishes and other hot food items alongside your typical baked items. With that said, I haven't ventured into their rice dishes but mainly come here for coffee and baos (buns). As with most bakeries in the area, Jade serves up limited dim sum items on their menu- the har gow (shrimp dumpling) one of my personal favorites is the star here. I could say that it rivals the larger dim sum establishments around the area for taste and quality. 3 stars for the food. It gets busy here during peak times, but the ladies behind the counter move the line pretty quick. A majority of them speak limited English... but they always seem to make an effort to meet your needs. And for that reason, I'd give another star which bumps them up to- 4 stars! :-)

This Jade Bakery is a black shop. The one-off forks are recycled to the guests.

This Jade Bakery is a black shop. The one-off forks are recycled to the guests. The forks used by others are also taken back for use by the next guest. Food are not clean and the waiter's attitude are very bad. Today, I bought a fried dumpling and found that the disposable fork was used. It was extremely disgusting to see that I could not eat their dumplings. Finally, due to the lack of breakfast, my stomach hurts. Therefore, I hope everyone will not go to this black shop to spend, so as to avoid suffering and be deceived.

Walking into Villabate in the afternoon on St. Joseph's day felt like walking back into time into…read morewhat the neighborhood used to be. Of course the line was out the door on the popular holiday. But coming here would only make my trip to Bensonhurst worth it. The line moved fast. But it was easy to be overlooked by the staff through the abundance of easter baskets and glass windows. The overwhelming options brought out the inner fat kid in me. Because it all looked sooooo good. My go to pastry at a place like this is cannoli. My wife love rainbow cookies. Overall this is the best cannoli I've had in a very long time. The cream was to perfection. The crust was baked to the right crisp with the exact amount of firmness and not no burning. The rainbow cookie was not overly sweet. The cake was moisute with a perfect balance to sweetness. It held well with every bite. My wife also said this was the best shes had in awhile. My daughter loved the lobster tail. It had a light exterior texture to every bite. The cream was nice with a hint of nutmeg. The chocolate mousse was decadent. There was a liquer to the chocolate that gave a lot of depth to the chocolate smoothie texture. Will certainly come back. And spread the word. This is not only an institution but a landmark.

Bath Beach, Bensonhurst

So there was a snafu with my order and while I wasn't exactly happy as it happened in Christmas…read moreEve, the staff/owner were all very nice and they're a small business doing what they can on a holiday with their family. Plus their baked goods are delicious! Two stand outs are the black sesame Swiss rolls and the durian cream puffs. It's been a year since my last review, and I think they improved the black sesame flavor. A full Swiss roll was $28 and so worth it. The durian cream puffs has a chunk of durian in it and the choux was crisp. Durian cream puffs sell out often. The chestnut mini cake is super cute, and honestly, it's hard to find chestnut flavored things here anymore. If I had to label this bakery anything, it would be the Chinese bakery that has all the nostalgic flavors with modern takes. Most Chinese bakeries by here don't do black sesame, durian or chestnut anymore. And this place does it well, and they're nice. NOTE: to order, they prefer WeChat. My ordering snafu happened bc I tried calling and there was a language miscommunication between WeChat/text messaging. WeChat is the easiest way to place orders.

We ordered a custom cake for my niece's 12th birthday, and it was honestly one of the best custom cakes I've ever had. Most custom cakes tend to have a denser, tougher sponge, but this one was incredibly fluffy, bouncy, and perfectly balanced, most importantly not too sweet. The texture reminded me of the amazing cakes I've had in China, and I haven't found anything like it here until now. We also tried their fresh mochi filled with whipped cream and mango, it was so light and melts in your mouth! The mochi skin had just the right chew and reminded me of the fresh mochi I had in Taiwan. Even their mini hot dog bun was super tasty! Every item we tried was a hit. I'll definitely be back here!
