Good chocolate, if not overpriced. Perhaps due to COVID they maintain very limited staff. The last two times I went one person was covering entire store. Most recently left after fifteen minutes of waiting with no end in sight. Jacques needs to get his employees some help! read more

Fantastic! Super fresh- we ordered: cookies-n-cream, red velvet, and mocha espresso...each better than the next!

Very average/below average service and the ice cream section is always sloppily maintained and with only bizarre flavored available. Definitely not a good ice cream option with Brooklyn Creamery nearby. read more

Absolutely delicious some of the best chocolate I've ever had! This Jacques Torres really knows what they are doing! Will definitely be being a bunch of chocolate back home with me to Miami read more

Jacques Torres' creations have a special place in my heart --- and I try my best to exercise self-control so that every encounter evokes the same magical feelings of the first visit. To quote from one of my favorite books, the Little Prince: "One must observe the proper rites". Sharing the genesis of my affair with the wonders at Jacques Torres: It was the summer between my first and second year of B-school and I had decided to dispense with the "Independent Man --- I make my own coffee" mug that had been a matter of perverse pride regarding my culinary abilities. As I ventured into the world of baking, I searched for recipes for cookies. Just then, the New York Times featured an article on Jacques Torres' mudslide cookies and I was bowled over - chocolate, chocolate and yet more chocolate. I thought to myself: how low is the flour to chocolate ratio? The results were fantastic, to the extent that I spoke enthusiastically about my newly discovered baking interests at one of the corporate recruiting events. The visiting School Manager's curiosity had been piqued and she asked me for the recipe. I emailed it to her within 15 minutes of leaving the event and got the interview call the next morning (talk about the factors that could lead to a hiring decision in Corporate America!). That weekend I took the train from Philly to pay homage, in person, at JT. My recent trip recaptured the same wondrous emotion as did my first one. This time I started with the chocolate chunk cookie, which competes with a similar version at one of my favorite bakeries, Bouchon. The cookie is well constructed with varying textures --- crisp on the edges, pliant, soft and chewy in the middle. With a very, very healthy dose of chocolate! (5 stars!) The chocolate chunk cookies lend themselves to one of the best ice cream sandwiches in the city --- crisp as opposed to the usual soggy variety, complemented ably by the full bodied flavor of espresso. Or Roasted Banana. One of my summer indulgences! How the dense ice cream doesn't melt all over one's fingers is a mystery to me. Maybe the feat of magic is all mine: as they say, the mouth is quicker than the eye! Jacque Torres also serves exceptional brownies: dense and with a chocolate ganache on top, accompanied by walnuts; and perhaps the best hot chocolate in the city! (to be elaborated upon in a later list) But, their star act is, drum roll please: the Mudslide cookie. Which is by far, the best chocolate cookie one can find in the city! There is so much chocolate that it appears that the cookie is just an elaborate vehicle for providing exquisite chocolate to the taste buds. The Mudslide is best served slightly heated to allow some of the chocolate inside to become soft and gooey. The Walnuts provide a worthy sidekick in taste and texture: crunchy and slightly bitter to deflect from the sweet and soft theme. I don't know how he manages it, but there is also a definite hint of fudginess to the cookie as well. It teases you tastefully and sensuously. And amazingly it still leaves you clamoring for more... More! Done with the cookie, I licked my fingers, then: the paper wrapper... then the bag! I see from the corner of my eyes that people nearby have taken note of my frenzied state and are scurrying away before I get any other funny ideas! The (heated) Mudslide: Absolutely, positively SIX stars! You won't see me use that rating for more than a handful of experiences. Heck, I rarely hand out 5 stars... Jacques Torres is one of those places where adults have the same wondrous expressions on their faces as wide eyed children do. Not to mention: the same spring in the step, and the impatience to embark upon the wonderful journey of chocolate ecstasy that awaits them. read more

The chocolate boxes are beautiful. The appearance of the chocolates themselves are more varied and artistic than usual. The quality of the chocolate is very good. However I was disappointed by the lack of intensity in the flavors of the different pieces. Overall, I did not think these confections are worth the premium price charged. read more

i had forgotten that jacques torres had recently opened-up an ice cream shop in DUMBO, so it was a a sweet surprise to pass by on the way to the BK hip-hop festival this afternoon. i saw the froyo sign from the middle of the street and made my friend swear on her firstborn that we'd pop by after the festival. 20 min later we stopped by for a treat.* ooohhhh, the flavors! fatty fat toppings, too! they had wicked chocolate, white chocolate raspberry, banana rum sorbet, chocolate-covered pretzels, mudslide cookie bits, etc. - a real diabetic's nightmare. the little fat girl in me really wanted a large cup of the wicked chocolate (if you've tried the hot version you'd totally understand), but i stuck to my guns and ordered a cup of froyo, plain-flavored, along with milk chocolate shavings as a topping. the yogurt was nice, creamy and, notably, had a granulated texture to it that i really enjoyed. absa-fucking-amazing. however, i'm totally docking off, not one, but TWO stars because our service was atrocious. as in baaad. we were literally the only two customers in the store, but the six employees behind the counter were too busy figuring our their weekend plans that they forgot to ask us what we wanted. i was fine because i'll MAKE myself heard dammit, but my friend isn't as strong-willed. in fact, after i had paid, she was still behind the ice cream counter waiting for help that i wasn't sure if she even wanted anything. the convo went as follows: me: "juds, you getting ice cream?" juds: "yeah, but no one's helping me." surprisingly, one employee heard juds and somewhat decided to do her job. homegirl had the nerve to say: "whaddaya want? i'm helping you now. WHAT DO YOU WANT?!" not one for confrontation, juds decided not to get any ice cream, and she and i walked out to enjoy the rest of my froyo in the adjacent chocolate store. i really wanted to go off but juds felt uncomfortable, and i'm all for people fighting their own battles. now, if i were juds, i would have bitch-slapped that girl - as in smacked her all the way to jersey. ain't no way someone's gonna talk to me like that. however, juds is way more of a lady than i am. * - the rain had pretty much ruined the festival and it turns out that she and i weren't feeling very "hip-hoppy" ... who woulda thunk it?! read more

Take a high quality chocolate bar. Melt it. Now you know what the hot chocolate at Jacques Torres is like. Get the wicked for a spicy kick; I didn't really notice the chile until I drank it outside in the cold. Drink it. Singe your tongue in your hurry. Savor the fact it was well worth it. Then walk across Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan (views are still obstructed as of Jan 2012) with the hot chocolate keeping you warm on the inside. Best hot chocolate ever. Enjoy! read more

They have a lot of very scrumptious chocolate products here, but the service is abysmally bad. I've had several such bad experiences of this nature at this place now. But I'm still giving it 3 stars, as the chocolate is that good. read more

Always a great winter place to visit at DUMBO. The hot chocolate drink is awesome and many more ways to get your chocolate fix before walking the Brooklyn Bridge (or afterwards) read more

Jacques Torres Chocolate has the BEST chocolate chip cookie I have ever had in my life. If the hot chocolate isn't the best, it's certainly close. We got the WICKED Hot Chocolate which has chili spices in it. Since it's in DUMBO, which is very close to the Brooklyn Bridge, we decided to take our hot chocolate and walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall Park. It was a fantastic experience. Freezing cold weather, New York sunset followed by the lighting up of Manhattan, all with my hot chocolate and 2 best friends. The shop itself is cute, full of all kind of chocolate confexioneries. The people were incredibly friendly and helpful. I loved Jacques Torres and can't wait to come back. read more

Nothing Compares to Jacques chocolate. It's light, and delicious. My favorites are the Passion Fruit, and the Toffee Nut Noir. Jacques Torres is the Willy Wonka of chocolate! read more

Came here for some hot chocolate after years of not being here. The wicked hot chocolate with whipped cream was delicious. Also bought the dark chocolate covered pomegranate, which was also really yummy. Odd to see ice cream, but I guess it's a welcome sight in the summer. I absolutely love the chocolate chip cookies here, always buy two if possible!! read more

Hot chocolate here is almost on the par with European hot chocolate, which is such a rarity in America.

i just LOVE their dark chocolates! sooo smooth!

Mouth-wateringly good chocolate chip cookie; the chocolate pieces are prominent as you indulge in the cookie. The inside was pretty packed on an unusually warm sunday afternoon, with a tour group coming into try samples as well. They also have pieces of chooclate and hot drinks. I'd come here again if exploring Dumbo. read more

Let's not beat around the bush. This chocolate is the best there is. I'm not really sure what else I can say. Try their Chocolate Croissants and their Hot Chocolate, but beware, it is almost impossible to finish a cup, it's that rich. read more

As a proud chocoholic, I love to treat myself with a trip to Jacques Torres Chocolate in DUMBO. Great place to grab a cup of hot chocolate or chocolate covered almonds. It is so hard to resist indulging in a shop full of sweets. read more

What a great place- both locations I've been too have been nothing short of completely satisfying. The chocolate here is as good as La Maison, but the staff and atmosphere are much better (nobody gives you weird looks if your not wearing high end clothes) The hot chocolates are all amazing, as are the cookies. The gift packs are thoughtfully priced for most budgets. The staff is always patient and kind when your taking your sweet time picking out your chocolate. I have been a customer here since 2007 and have never eaten anything bad and have never experienced poor service. If your visiting NYC this is a great place to get some chocolate or bring back a gift to a friend. If your from NYC, you ought get yourself to one of these places soon!!! read more

So how can anyone go to a candy store as divine as this and have anything bad to say? The frozen hot chocolate was tasty and interesting, but not something I felt that I must have again before I die. The chocolate chip ice cream sandwich better fits into that "to die for" category and is a much better deal at $5. Although I highly recommend sharing it with a friend, unless you are eating it in place of a meal. The actual candies we bought here were all delicious, but the quality to price ratio still seems a bit whacked towards the tourist trap end of the spectrum. Still, this place is definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in DUMBO and all things chocolate is your credo. And if you're still reading this review, then it must be, read more

Awesome place for chocolate! Individual pieces were decently priced and pretty creative. I like the fact that you can watch the assembly line process through the glass window (I Love Lucy fans will enjoy that). Also got to try the "Wicked" hot chocolate (with a hint of spice and chili), which has a nice kick to it. It was really thick though. After a while, it was almost as if I was eating a chocolate bar!...okay, maybe not that bad but you get the point. read more

My bf and I were going to Grimaldis but before we started waiting in line we went to Jacques for a hot chocolate. He order the Wicked and I got the Classic. The Classic was amazing and by the end...my bf took over my Classic hot chocolate. My bf and I are on a mission to try amazing places for their hot chocolates and so far Jacques has our vote. read more

I love Jacques Torres! Stop by for a cookie and hot cocoa, or take home a box of chocolates. I don't know what Jacques does with chocolate, but it tastes better than other gourmet chocolate. The best part about the Brooklyn bridge location is the view of the city from that neighborhood. Grab your snacks and go for a walk. read more

Very disappointed!! J. Torres is so famous for chocolates. Half of them were bloomed! Meaning white sheen because they were taken out of temper. The foil wrappers were opened. The cappuccino was ok but we ordered a latte. read more

So I didn't eat many of the delightful looking desserts or buy all of the absolutely scrumptious pre-packaged chocolates.. but I did get the hot chocolate. Which was enough to make me want to go back even though it was a VERY long walk in the cold.. although you can enjoy it by walking along the waterfront. There were 3 hot chocolate options, milk chocolate, dark and a spicy version. The hot chocolate was rich and just sweet enough without overpowering the cocoa flavor. I didn't try the spicy hot chocolate there but I've had it elsewhere - it's delicious. It's not spicy the way we think of tabasco sauce spicy where it burns and you need water.. anything to make it better. But it's a bit of spiciness at the end of your sip that is just enough so you notice it but not overpowering. The hot chocolate was perfect for a windy day and there are some stools and chairs where you can hang out with friends before you step out into the cold. The downside of the sitting area is it's not nearly as large inviting as a coffee shop so you may feel compelled to hurry if you have a huge group of friends. I tried the Wicked Hot Chocolate this weekend - it definitely became spicier as I sipped it and it was very chocolatey/delicious. But.. it was ridiculously thick to the point where it congealed and I felt like I needed a spoon. Otherwise, yum. read more

I have had many different kinds of fine chocolates and still find jacques torres the best. The prices are similar to other high end chocolate but I find the flavors much better. While you are there, get the hot chocolate. In the summer the ice cream sandwich is amazing! The fresh baked cookies are a simply perfect and have them heated up! read more

Three words: Chocolate Covered Cheerios. Try 'em. Close your eyes (so you don't see all the tourists), and you're transported to heaven.

I grew up on Chocolate - My mom worked for a pretty big multi-national candy company - but Jacques Torres chocolate is on a totally different level. Their 80%-plus dark chocolate is amazing, and is worth the $5. Even with all the new products I tested when I was growing up, nothing compares to this stuff. The ice cream sandwiches are also good, but one can be split among two people. read more

I moved to DUMBO just to be near Mr. Chocolate! It's the death of me. By far some of the best chocolates in the city. period. Go for the Wicked. Chocolate with Ancho chilies. The smoothness of the chocolate with the heat is fantastic. They also make the #1 best, BEST chocolate chip cookies in the world. They are truly a gift from the heavens. No, strike that, for some insane reason they thought, "Hey, how can we make what's good even better?" Their answer was to make an ice cream sandwich. I had the chocolate ice cream and the chocolate chip cookies. and all I can write it; WOW! read more

Will never go to the Dumbo store again! Customer service was horrible. Waited 10 minutes to be served, after being served, was told to get back to the end of the line, only to be told when I got to the front to pay that I wasn't next even though the guy behind me was served and paid at the same time! Needless to say I walked out empty handed and will never walk back into the shop again, despite it being my local. Please train your staff appropriately. This was not the experience I wanted when trying to purchase $30 for a small box of chocolates. read more

Jacques torres! even the name sounds good, the chocolate is even better! its worth the price. damn this got me thinking about it, ill be there in an hour! read more

I had fond memories of Jacques Torres from a previous trip to NY, when I really enjoyed their drinking chocolate. My experience last week was much less memorable. The drinking chocolate is still good, although I think it was the first one I'd ever had and I've since had several that are at least as good or better (City Bakery has an excellent one and so does Sprinkles Cupcakes, in the winter). In addition, the chocolate chip cookie we had was pretty bad. We did go in at the end of the day but the cookie was dry and stale and overall, definitely in the bottom 25% of chocolate chip cookies I've had. It looked nothing like the warm, melty cookies pictured on Yelp. Maybe you have to go in earlier in the day. I wouldn't rule out giving them another shot, but if you're a chocoholic and looking for a fix in NYC I would recommend La Maison du Chocolat. read more

The desserts here are delicious and I love coming here when I'm in the area, however, when I came here today the staff was no very professional. The girl at the cash register dropped an f-bomb while I was in front of her. Then I got my cousin a sorbet cone. The woman at first grabbed a cup and my mother said "he actually wants that on a cone" and she gave my mom an attitude like she was asking for too much. Not impressed with the unprofessional staffing. read more

I'm a tour guide for Japanese. So I have brought customers to this shop for 2 years when I guide at DUMBO. I like this shop and delicious chocolate. But recently I became to feel that the shop clerk is so rude. I am always to request some sample of hot chocolate because I want to tell to customers about the taste. Thereby most customers have bought the hot chocolate and other chocolate until now. Honestly, I don't care they buy it or not. I have only thought to glad that customer is pleased. Today 4/21, I went to this shop with my customers. I asked some sample of hot chocolate for my customers to a young lady. She was in front of the hot chocolate machine. An Asian guy was a cashier. I asked but she didn't smile at all and an attitude. There was a vicious expression on her face. She gave me samples like a chicken feed! She is extremely disgusting． But so, my Japanese customers bought some chocolates because I recommended it but I felt so bad. Mr. Jacques Torres, Should not I ask tasting at this shop? Until today so many my customers have been buying chocolates at this shop but I don't want to recommend anymore. I hope do employee education. read more

Best chocolate company I have ever had! If you are looking for specialty chocolates this is your place! They have individual pieces, bark, and even a little cafe for drinks. The wicked hot chocolate is amazing in the winter-it's so rich and tastes like italian hot chocolate. I recommend just buying the small instead of the large because of how rich it actually is. Even if you are looking for simple chocolates (dark, milk, ect.) this is still the place to go. They sell bars as well and shaped chocolates for holidays. The prices are reasonable. They are not as cheap as Hershey's but you're not there for chocolate that is going to stick to the roof of your mouth for a week. Lol. Try it out! read more

Great thing about roaming around the city is you randomly find quality places like I did this weekend while in Brooklyn. I have to say the Wicked Hot Chocolate was the richest cup of hot cocoa Ive ever had. I enjoyed drinking it while walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. The cooler my drink got, the more it tasted like liquid chocolate in a cup. lol. I cant wait to try the other goodies in the store. read more

It was my first time in NY so I was just letting my friends who were already there a couple times led me anywhere they want. We found Jacques Torres in a corner of street. To be honest, I have been in Madison WI for a while now and I have always been in love with Babcock dairy hall's chocolate ice cream and chocolate milk. I was actually amazed by the chocolate here. I tried the mango sorbet first and my pupil dilated... it was an exaggeration, but you know what i mean. It was smooth and creamy, but for a moment, i mistaken it for a gelato. I'm from a tropical country so I have a really high expectation for fruity ice cream and this ice cream... blew me away. Then I tried the chocolate ice cream, and I had to jump right up to the counter to order the chocolate milk shake. I will describe it as: a trip back to childhood blvd. The milk share was light, silky, smooth, chocolatey. I can taste the richness of cream and milk, the bitterness of the rich chocolate that linger in my tastebud. It was, so far, my best chocolate shake ever! Fellow human being, I urge you to try the milkshake from this place ASAP!!! read more

After hearing all the hype about this place my friend and I went down to DUMBO to check this place out. The aroma of chocolate and sugar was pure euphoria, and the shop was decorated so well you almost thought you were on a movie set. We got some dark chocolate ganaches and a dark chocolate chip cookie. The ganaches were good, but way too rich for my tastes. The cookie was very buttery, which is always a plus, but beyond that I didn't find it to be anything worth trekking in the snow again for. read more

Very tiny (to sit in) but definitely a good idea when it's a bit chilly out and you've just hiked the brooklyn bridge, ate pizza at grimaldi's and had ice cream at the brooklyn ice cream factory. What? You haven't done this? Well, if you have attempted to stuff yourself into a food coma - you will know you probably can't get more than a hot chocolate and survive. If you haven't stuffed your face though, you might be able to enjoy a their choco chip cookies or the rest of their other goodies. read more
