The performers were hilarious and you could tell they were having a great time. Even if you aren't celebrating a bachelorette/birthday it's a fun place to do something different! My friend brought me here as a surprise treat for my birthday and pseudo reunion since I hadn't seen her for four years. I visited Boston over Memorial Day Weekend, and she'd been hurrying me through dinner saying we needed to be at this secret venue before 10pm. Our cab driver gave it away, before she could really surprise me. "Oh, the TRANSVESTITE BAR? ALL YOU NEED IS HERPES AND YOU'RE GOLDEN!" Yeah, awkward. But we pull up to this seedy place on a corner tucked away in the dark trenches of Bay Village. The inside is just as run-down as one would expect: the smell of stale alcohol, a true cornucopia of people -- mostly bachelorette parties yet notwithstanding the requisite group of elitist gays. The bathrooms are disgusting and the bartenders, all nearing retirement age weren't friendly and poured weak drinks. Homegirl with the wonky eye was the bitchiest of them all. But the showgirls did not disappoint. I'm normally quite terrified of drag queens, but Ms. Ery and all of her sassiness made the show enjoyable. Cut to the end where we encountered some intra-party cat fighting which made us leaving the venue with our heads scratching yet our bodies still pulsing with energy. Last night was the Queer Asian Cabaret at Jacque's. They call it "The Jaded Lounge." In between sets of sexy drag queens in tiny outfits lip-syncing to pop songs were questions from the "Stupid Asian Sex Quiz." If you answer one of the questions right then you just might win one of many cool prizes, including a pair of wall shelves, a bottle of Lysol kitchen cleaner, or a head of slightly wilted cabbage. Hilarious. Not too many folks were in the audience, unfortunately. It would have been a lot more exciting if some more people rolled in. But it was still a good time. I went here last night with a few friends and had a great time. The performers really get into character (Whitney Houston, Lady Gaga, Pink, etc) with makeup, outfits, and personality. And they had me laughing all night. The bartender asked our table of hetero girls and our gay boy tour guide whether we spit or swallow, and a friend of mine's boobs were covered in lipstick within the first fifteen minutes of the show. Also, I must say I was under the impression that the drag queens that performed last night were actually enjoying themselves, having fun and putting their hearts into their performances. They didn't look busted and jaded like some drag queens do. I can't comment on the drinks since I don't partake but my shirley temple was swell, if a bit miniature. read more

I visited Jacque's for the first time about 4 years back. I was super excited to see Mizery again since they had closed down Manray. Since then I have been 3 more times. I absolutely LOVE going here for a fun night out. This was such a glamorous, fun time. Dildos, glitter, high heels, and my legs up in the air while "Let me see your P***y" blasts in the background. It's always a ravishingly, fun time. But steer clear of the bachelorette party section. read more

If you haven't been here- I won't be insulted if you read no further and simply GO! Great place for Bridal Shower's. I don't usually enjoy organized group escapades, but this! was exceptional. You should pre game here EVERY night you intentionally drink. The show was so entertaining, I mean who (?) doesn't want to dance to Betty Wright (see Candyman's Knockin' boots if you don't know what I'm referring to) in between acts. Perhaps it's because I am 30 or maybe I wasn't drunk enough, but I didn't think this was the best drag show ever. Or maybe I have just been to a lot of drag shows and I can tell the good from the ok. Either which way I was only moderately amused. I think this is more for a younger crowd early to mid 20's. I guess just not my scene. The mixed drinks were small plastic cups and overpriced but some of the ladies did do well. I enjoyed "the russian" and the madonna impersonater. Ah yes, nothing says a good time quite like Jacques. One of the USA's oldest drag bars, it is truly a local treasure. When you walk into this "dive" it is like stepping back in time. The drinks are incredibly strong - selection not so great. Whatever you do, don't order the cheap champagne - stick with the shots & beer. After a few of Jacques super-shots you will find the show gets better and better - funny how that happens. I have been to several shows with various groups of friends. I find the Saturday night show with Norell Gardner to be the most professional with the best performers. On Monday nights they have more "edgy" punk rock type drag queens, who I love equally! Oh, Jacques, what a Saturday night you gave me! I went to Jacques, which I had previously never heard of, to see my friend's brother's Madonna cover band play in the basement. Truly, what better place to see such an act? Coming through the main entrance to a drag show and a whole lot of bachelorette parties hooting and hollering made me wonder if I had entered the wrong place. The drag show was fantastic. There was much hilarity and silliness all around, and I have every intention of making a return trip some weekend night. I made my way downstairs, through the big door and the wave of olfactory offense that hit as I walked in. The downstairs (Underground, they call it) was a complete change from upstairs. Dingy, poorly lit, and having a rather unpleasant smell, it was the place you expect to see a band play its very first show ever (my friends and I agreed that when we start a band, our first and last shows will be here). That said, it made for a good show. At any rate, Jacques is a lot of fun. The drinks are good ($2.75 for a delightful Brubaker beer) and not too expensive. The atmosphere is amazing, and the entertainment should not be missed. Totally worth the $10 cover. read more

Drag dive. YES. I went to Jacques for your typical bachelorette party. I really didn't want to go because the first part of the party was so boring, but I went for the sake of my sisters. I'd never seen a drag show before, so I was willing to check it out and get some laughs in. I didn't expect this to be one of the most hilarious nights of my life. I also didn't expect to fall in love with a drag queen. I didn't drink that night because I wasn't feeling well, but I certainly didn't need any booze to make the night fun. The ladies putting on the show are all you need to have a great time. And the place is a total dive. It's hidden, it's a total hole in the wall, and it's sketchy as well. It's friggin' perfect. My kind of place. The show was amazing. I fell in love with Destiny, who performed Beyonce and the Pussycat Dolls. Her dance moves were incredible, and she was just a lot of fun. She even invited me on stage to dance with her (yes, I have pictures) and allowed me to have my own little dance break. So. Much. Fun. We had a really great time, especially when the bachelorette was forced to spread her legs for one of the queens to make a dirty gesture. Also photographed. This is by far the most fun I have had in Boston, or anywhere for that matter. I have never laughed and smiled so much in one night. It's a drag show, where the performers are amazing and fun, performing well known songs, getting the audience "involved"- which really means molesting and being completely over the top sexual. Our bachelorette- to put it mildly- had her face licked, her ass in the air, and took money out of some cleavage with her teeth. This is the PERFECT place for a bachelorette party or birthday party. I went to Jaques originally b/c a friend of a friend's band was playing in the basement. Their band is great, so that was an excellent time...until a really lecherous old man hit on my friend in an extremely menacing way that eventually turned into threatening and trying to grab him away from us. My friend is smaller, and this was actually kind of terrifying. The staff did not do a lot to help the situation (until it escalated seriously out of control). Apparently at the time (at least 5 years ago ish) he was a regular, what fun. This would be when we migrated up to the drag show to escape...the drag show is amazing (and the reason they get any stars after not helping us with the friend-snatcher). Those girls can get it. Yes, there are a million bachelorette parties. The time we went there were also a few tables of gay men having birthdays / their own thing too. Hopefully that still happens? I haven't been recently, so can't vouch for that. I don't mind the bachelorettes except for when they try to hijack the show. The real reason for this review: I tried to go for my birthday last year, but apparently you have to reserve the tables REALLY far in advanced (thanks to said bachelorette parties). Definitely a fun time, any night of the week. The ladies always put on a good show. The drinks are strong and reasonably priced, and there's a server who comes to your table for orders, so you don't have to get up during a performance. My favorite event here is Perestroika, the first Monday of every month. Katya Zamolodchikova is the inimitable hostess; regular performers are geriatric gem Frieda Fries and around-the-way-girl Nicholle Pride. Seats fill up quick, so be sure to make reservations ahead of time, especially if you have a party of five or more. Unless you lack a sense of humor it is impossible to have a bad time here. The ladies really put on a show, not afraid to be completely outrageous and bring out the same in you...I found myself with a strange crush on the amazonian Destiny by the end of the night. I also got plain old drunker than I have in ages, due to the prolific amounts of cheap booze. I'd definitely recommend going here with a group--I was with one of the ubiquitous bachelorette parties--as it's always more fun to make an ass of yourself with all your friends, and to see them do embarrassing things like run on stage and slap someone on the butt (erm, repeatedly). Can I just say...I LOVE this place! My friends and I have gone here for a few bachelorette/birthday parties, and it's always a blast! The drag queens are fantastic - they all look great, they know their songs, and boy can they dance! I've never had more fun on a girls night out as I have here. Prepare yourself - if you're any where near the stage you will most likely be part of the show. If you're on the shy side, let your friends sit a little closer! Also make sure you bring a good amount of $1 bills to tip the drag queens. As the MC says, "it costs a lot of money to look this trashy!" This is a very popular spot for bachelorette parties, so call at least a few weeks in advance to make reservations, and don't be late! If you have a reservation but arrive late to the show, your table will be given away. Some of the bachelorette parties get a little obnoxious but the drag queens take it in stride, so you should too. $10 cover to get in. Drinks are a little expensive given how small they are, but they're always nice and strong. All of the bartenders/servers are great and will keep your drinks coming. Make sure to bring plenty of cash as it is a cash-only establishment. There are a few parking garages in the area, but be warned if you're taking a cab as a lot of drivers have a hard time finding the place. If they can't find it just have them drop you off at the Radisson. Tip the bellman there and he'll give you walking directions (barely a 2 minute walk). read more

Tucked away on a side street, Jacques Cabaret is definitely an 'experience'. Overall I had a great time although I was ready to leave after about 40 minutes of the show which went on for just over an hour. Also, don't be fooled thinking that you are just going as an observer. The performers walk around from table to table (there are only about 5 tables in the whole place with a semi-elevated catwalk running through the middle) and even called the bachelorettes up on stage. This helps keep everyone engaged and having fun. There are also some original renditions of songs with lyrics too raunchy for this yelp review. I can say that they were uncomfortably funny. The downsides were the awful drinks served in water cooler cups and the gross wine (they only charge $5 for wine but considering I can find a decent glass for around $7-$8 i wasnt particularly pleased). The sketchy individuals at the bar were also a bit offputting. Think barely dressed men in drag looking like their "on the job." Lastly, there is one performer who is probably in her late 60s. She came out for about 3 acts and my group and i weren't really loving it. She didnt say anything and just danced around awkwardly. Destiny on the other hand was hilarious - bubbly with a great sense of humor While my review might seem harsh, I gave it 3 stars because i enjoyed my night and I think it's a fun one-time experience. The key to enjoying Jacque's is a three step process. It includes: #1Enjoying Drag Queens - this is essential to the entire experience as there are several amazingly talented drag queens that perform during the evening. You must enjoy crude jokes, diva songs and being amazed that a man can look better than you in a bustier. #2 Drink - The drinks are strong at Jacque's so this one is easy. Keep drinking but don't drink so much that you have to pee a lot. The bathrooms are gross. #3 Go with a group of ladies/gay men/secure metrosexual men - This place crawls with bachelorettes and groups of outrageous girls/guys looking for a crazy night. Me and 5 of my girlfriends went out for Girls night and this was where we decided to go....let me tell you that we had the best time! The ladies that work here are awesome and made the experience great. They walk out into the audience and really get people involved, bringing them up on stage and making them do really silly stuff. The performers were just amazing dancers and they even came up with dirty parodies of songs which was hysterical.... The only downfall didnt even have to do with the place!! The girls that were in the audience were smashed and got really annoying. They kept trying to lift up the performers skirts and kept touching them, which i found VERY rude. The performer even asked her not to do it and she kept doing it.....cmon ladies!!! i would highly recommend this place if you are going to do a girls night or just want to do something fun!!!! If you think 5 bucks for any amount of alcohol is expensive in BOSTON, then you need to go back home to wherever hillbilly town you can get a cheaper drink! Also, Ptown drags and Boston drags should NEVER be compared. If you were truly aware of the drag world, you would've never made this comparison. Finally, a drag queen is a man dressed in women's clothing performing on stage. You don't know any of the these drag queens from a hole in the wall and unless you are their personal surgeon, your assumptions that they've had thousands of dollars of surgery to become tgirls is just you hating on someone who pulls off looking better as a women than you. I love this place. Whether you are celebrating a birthday, bachelorette or anything, or just want to have a fun night out, definitely check this out. Tickets are cheap but bring a LOT of singles because the queens are super talented and get even more funny and entertaining the more you tip them. They are very good at knowing who they can interact with in the audience. The staff and management are very friendly. You have to call ahead for reservations and not much of their operations are online/automated so be prepared to talk to a person. Drinks are priced a little high for the portion but are strong enough to last. With how cheap the tickets are, I wasn't bothered by the drink prices. I have been here many times and have really come to love the shows.I would give it a 5 star if they got rid of the bad apples. I have been on different nights and there is always something new! My only issue with this place is management. I have had the Bartender/Manager Chris say some horrible things to the patrons such as my self and employees of this establishment. Last week when I came in for the 7pm show I sat at the bar with one of my friends as I usually do. Chris immediately came over and forced us out of the seats at the bar and made us stand up against the wall while she gave our seats to a bunch of bachelorettes that did not have a reservation. When I questioned Chris about it she walked away. I have heard her call the show girls horrible names and mock other staff. I would have quit if I worked there! read more

Jacques is a blast. Full disclosure, I pretty much love anything with a drag queen. Look, don't expect NY/Vegas levels of talent. The performers lip sync rather than sing live. But those broads can move and I'm jealous of most of their bodies. They put on a hell of a show. Plus, we went there for an engagement party and had a pregnant girl in our group. They treated us so well and made sure our future drag queen was safe and happy. It meant a lot. This is a super fun night out if you're looking for a change of pace. Cheap drinks, dive atmosphere. Once we found this place (seriously, look at a map before you set out, some cabs can't even find it...) WOW! What a freakin GREAT night out. I came on a Wednesday for a friend's 25th birthday celebration - though we were encouraged to come back on a weekend when it was more crowded - it was still a great time since we had a group. The performers really made the birthday girl the star of the show...and they definitely had more serious dance moves and lip sinking abilities than I may ever hope for! A couple shots (which were huge) and I was pretty good to go. Special shout out to the hostess's Britney routine - special place in my heart! For $7 cover, it is seriously good entertainment. One word to the wise though - its NOT a cheap night out at Jacques, even if it seems like a dive. There is always cover, Drinks aren't cheap, and of course you need a wad of 1s to tip the well-deserving performers! Can't remember the last time I was fondled by a transvestite, but I was told it was it at Jacque's. Naturally I took it as a compliment. Jacque's is a fun place to go with a group. I was a part of the many bachelorette parties there that night. This place is perfect for that, but it's unfortunate that brides-to-be have descended upon Jacques like locusts. Not only because I'd imagine it's hard to feel "special" amongst many other veiled drunkards, but it also gives the place a bit of a Chucky Cheese feel where everyone gets asked the details of what they're celebrating on stage ("And how old are YOU today?!"). Luckily the MC spares no one with "her" scrutiny, which definitely gets some laughs from the audience. The entertainment value is high. It's great fun to watch these talented divas strut their stuff to Britney and other pop icons. The long slow ballads are a bit hard to sit through, but the plus is they allow for an intermission to get some drinks without feeling like you're missing something. read more
