WICKED performance was so much fun!

Cute little dive bar/ cabaret spot! A very intimate setting and performances. FYI, cash only and no food so hit an atm and eat before you go! Very fun night and happy to see Bostons local drag scene!

Absolutely loved Jacques Cabaret! We came here for my friends bachelorette party (super cliche, I know). It was my first time at any drag show ever, and these ladies were unbelievably talented. They really paid so much attention to the brides and birthdays in the room, which was amazing. Make sure to bring a stack of 1's with you to tip these amazing queens! I gave a 5 based on the queens alone, but the bar could definitely use some work. The drinks come in little Dixie cups and are really expensive, but other than that, such a fun night!

Came to Boston to visit our daughter on her 21st birthday. Sitting in our PJs in our hotel room with the patio door cracked open. Heard so many people having a great time, we had to join the fun. Arrived just in time...great show and drinks. Perfect way to start the celebration weekend.

    Fabulous!

Cash only old school drag bar. Servers were nice enough. Doesn't pick up until later, show started around 10 and was a $20 cover.

Great show, great crowd, cheapest beers I've seen in Boston! Had the best time at one of their drag shows. I recommend!

We'd bought tickets to what others claimed was a scam. (Spoilers. It's not). We decided to hope it all went well. Two Days before the show we are informed through text they're cancelling Sundays show but can move our tickets to Saturday for a free VIP upgrade. Sweet. Michele was very helpful and communicated clearly. The process was seamless. We show up Saturday and watch three performers (who each perform 2 times). The show was fantastic. The MC was funny. Our small, intimate crowd was funny. Drinks were heavy . The three course meal was two is our only complaint. A salad and an entree. So ignore the old reviews from two years ago. Trust the process. Enjoy the art. It was a great show.

We went to this show as part of a birthday celebration. (There were two other birthdays in the…read morehouse.) It was definitely enjoyable. They say the doors don't open until 6pm, but that's not exactly true. When we went upstairs, there were already two large parties seated. We had a drink and a huge pretzel at the bar downstairs while we waited. Drinks and food are also available upstairs. There's a large lounge area to the right of the stage with an upholstered banquette. The other seats are folding chairs with tables. You're greeted by a very nice woman who offers to give you change so you'll have ones and fives to tip the performers. I didn't expect tipping because other burlesque shows I've seen have been in theaters, so there wasn't tipping. There were three performers (two women and one man) and an MC, Scratch. He did an excellent job moving the show along. Be careful with the drinks there: they are very strong! The performance only lasts for about an hour, so there's plenty of time to also go out to dinner someplace in the area.

I turned 22 yesterday and was very excited to spend the end of my night with friends at club cafe,…read morewhich I heard great things about. After waiting 30+ minutes in line, the bouncer saw I had 2 EMPTY shooters in my bag. I held up the shooters so he could see they were empty, and they were emptied over an hour before. The bouncer told me I should empty the bottles in a trashcan at the end of the street so that the police (who were near the entrance) didn't see me. Totally fine with me- I disposed of the bottles and returned tn the bouncer and the rest of my friends. The bouncer informed me that the policewoman saw me throwing out the bottles and I couldn't come into the club. This is complete bullsh*t on so many levels: 1. If it is illegal to go into an establishment with an outside beverage, my outside beverages were empty. This could be verified by bouncer 2. I am of legal drinking age. Not sure where in the Massachusetts state legislature it says that I cannot get into a bar after having some empty shooters in my bag at the shocking age of 22 3. This bouncer gave me his (albeit untrustworthy) advice to then completely disregard it and prevent me from getting into this club. On my birthday. Why on earth would you tell me to go to this trashcan and then not let me in. 4. Not really sure why you can't get into a club after disposing of a shooter. Does the city of Boston and/or state of Massachusetts ban individuals who had previously carried liquor in their bags (from hours before) entry into bars? Didn't think so. In summary, this was an extremely disappointing way to end what was otherwise a very fun night to celebrate my birthday. I wish I could've seen the club cafe vibes but unfortunately I was wrongfully denied with no legal basis. Wish I stayed at Clery's.

The second half involves audience participation, but it's not mandatory if you're more on the shy side. The actors were incredible and very funny. They brought some modern twists and definitely some Boston jokes which I enjoyed. You will laugh a lot and have a great time trying to figure everything out. With around 80-100 seats, the show was pretty intimate and fun. I love how their performers were able to adjust to and roll with each audience's feedback...and many times, returned with even funnier responses. It does take a talented crew to be able to work together and do a bit of improv to keep the audiences highly engaged and I definitely thought the team of performers I saw did such a fantastic job that night. I honestly went in without much expectations but definitely came out really happy that I got to see thus show. Many audiences felt the same as well. P.S. restrooms are underground and behind the stage...so you may not be able to get in there until they start letting the audiences in. Also, they have a bar downstairs so you can enjoy your show with your fav drinks, too.

The experience of getting tickets at…read morethe box office leaves a lot to be desired, though, so I'd suggest considering whether you want to brave the box office or just pay the extra fees to order online. In today's box office experience, I showed up during the normal box office hours, but the ticket window facing the outside of the building was curtained off, the door to the building was locked, and the inside box office door (which I could see through the transparent building door) was closed. I called the box office and they let me in, but maybe some clarifying signage (along the lines of "yes, we are open") would be useful. When I asked about purchasing a specific pair of tickets, the person in the box office initially stated there were no seats available in the row where I requested seats, although I could see seat availability showing up in my phone app. After we looked at the phone app together so I could better understand the discrepancy, they did confirm that the seats the app was showing were available and booked tickets for those seats. I also had quite a difficult time using a promotion for $25 tickets they had emailed me. First the person in the box office said that the promotion only applied to the seats that are always $25 dollars (although the promotion email said "all seats"), then they said the promotion had expired (although the promotion email said it was valid through midnight today), then they said that the promotion only applied to some show dates (although the promotion email said it applied to "all performances"). After we looked at the email together to try to sort through these differences, they let me book according to the terms in the email.

The seating however is always raised, and the theater cozy, so seats with a bad view are highly unlikely. One thing that I think was new this season is that they've taken to decorating the waiting area for each performance, which I find to be great fun. Refreshments purchased at the concessions stand are allowed into the theater. One thing I notice that they make sure to tell the audience before every show - they love their subscribers. Blocks of seats are saved for their subscribers, and I think that they also get free parking. This theater is an easy walk from the Central Square T, and is located on the same block as Mary Chung's. *** 8/2011 *** With the new season they've changed from open seating to assigned seating. So buy your tickets early for a better selection of seats. The theater gets chilly sometimes, so consider bringing a sweater. *** 10/2012 *** Validation tickets for the University Park @ MIT Garage - 55 Franklin Street are available to all CST patrons at the Will Call Counter for parking after 5pm on weekdays and all day on weekends for a max of 5 hours. Parking for $5? Nice! PS - they sell a soda pop sweetened with cane sugar here - I recommend the cherry. *** 11/2013 *** 2013-2014 is the 3rd season that the Central Square Theater is playing "Arabian Nights" based on "One Thousand and One Nights." I highly recommend going to see it - it is terrific and I've seen it both seasons prior and am scheduled to watch it this December also. For Black Friday through Cyber Monday, the tickets are $35 (vs up to $61), or 4-Play Subscriptions (peak) are $100 (vs $163 regular price). *** 8/2014 *** For those with little ones, Central Square Theater has begun offering a Date Night with optional childcare ($20 for the first child aged 6 and up, $5 for any additional children) for specific nights. The kids get to watch a movie, while the parents enjoy the show. Something else new was a pre-show MicroTheater performance of "Othella" which began in the stairwell and headed into the lobby. Theater, right in your face. It was cool. It was scheduled to accompany the performance of "Her Aching Heart" as part of their Central Conversations series of discussions and special events. *** 12/2015 *** The fifth and final run of the holiday special "Arabian Nights." See it while you can! This season CST no longer decorated the lobby area specific to each show, but you can still enjoy whiling away the time till the theater doors open, relaxing at one of a number of small tables or checking out the framed photos of past shows hanging on the wall. They sell snacks and drinks that can be taken with you into the theater - I highly recommend the oatmeal cookies. But my beloved cherry soda is no longer available here, as they've changed brands. I loved how they wove together the tales of the Little Match Girl and the Happy Prince in "Matchless & The Happy Prince." I admit it - I got a bit teary eyed at one point. *** 12/2016 *** CST has changed their restrooms to be All Gender shared restrooms as they believe that everyone should have a safe place to use the bathroom. What does that mean? It means anyone can choose to visit either of their previously labeled Men's and Ladies' restrooms. It also means that if will make you feel safe, you may ask a staff member to accompany you to the restroom. What I didn't like was how you could peek in (and out) of the stalls through the gaps around the door - well, no more! They've installed privacy covers which makes your going private from accidental eyes.
