Called Jacobson's for a problem with my front door latch. They sent out a subcontractor without informing me that it wasn't actually their technician. The experience was awful (see review for capital locksmith). Despite the awful experience, Jacobson was prompt to respond to my complaint and was quick to resolve it. I would make sure that you are getting Jacobson and not a subcontractor. read more

I wrote a recent prior review of this company, which was true based upon my own experiences. The manager, Dave, and I recently had a conversation that leads me to believe he will use my experience for teachable moments for him and his team. He wanted to make things right and was respectful. I refused his offer for a partial refund but, in my mind, his professionalism increases his rating. I encourage him and all using his service to clearly communicate, and to get written estimates (which I usually do) in advance of the service. I have tried to delete my former post of my own free will because I generally support small businesses. However, I cannot figure out how to do so. AVOID! I had an easy job - two locks to get rekeyed. They refused to give a quote over the phone, saying they needed to "see the locks" before even giving a general range. When they got here, they claim I have an old lock and it needs to be replaced. How much? "$499, $599, or $699" That did not include the $125 to rekey another lock OR the service fee for coming out OR the processing fee for paying by credit card. I paid it but you should learn from my expensive mistake and just say NO. read more

After spending countless hours and days into trying to find my key. I decided to reach out to a couple businesses to see if they can do a key replacement for my G37. I was very surprised to see how fast I was able to get a response from the owner and said that he can send someone right away or I can schedule an appointment. He informed me that the service fee is $29(the fee to drive to you) and that I will be given the quote before my tech will do anything. Luckily, I got a really good tech, Ben who was very friendly and was super patient with me while I had to call my insurance and figure out costs. After deciding if I should get one or two keys, he was able to quickly program and there I have it 2 keys! Thank you so much for the quick and excellent service, Ben. Giving them 4 stars because they were quick and able to come help me in less than an hour after another company cancelled on me 2 hours later. The person who came was very polite. But, their prices are not competitive compared to others in the same area. I already had the key I needed to get reprogrammed/cut, but they didn't give me any discount for providing the key. It was $250. I had other companies quote me around $180 (although they replied later). If you have the time, ask around for quotes! read more

(Shortly after I wrote the following review, Dave, the owner of Jacobson reached out to me. He was very disappointed to learn about the experience I had. He subsequently terminated his relationship with the subcontractor who performed my service and refunded a fair portion of the fee. . . I understand mistakes happen and was impressed with how quickly and professionally he handled the problem. Accordingly, I'm happy to adjust my review to 5-stars and will reach out to Jacobson the next time I need a locksmith. Thanks for making things right, Dave!) I wasn't is any hurry, but was initially pleased when they told me they could complete my job right away. Their policy is to charge $29 just to show up, then they will quote you the job. I drove across town to the house where I needed a simple 5-pin handle lock picked (the owner, my client, had left town and forgot to leave the handle unlocked; the deadbolt has a separate key). The locksmith was 25 minutes late. He inspected the lock and told me it would cost $165 to pick it. As a Realtor, I've needed locksmiths on numerous occasions. I know how fast a lock can be picked and how much it should cost. (I've had 3 doors rekeyed before for less than $140 TOTAL). I told him I'd give him the $29 and he could just go away. He got on the phone with his boss, who authorized him to charge me ONLY $100. . . I said, "fine. do it." Two minutes later the lock was picked, I paid him, and that was that. Would I pay $165 for an emergency locksmith to open a door for me on short notice, at night, on a weekend, or a holiday? Absolutely. But to even attempt to charge $165 for a non-urgent job in the middle of the day on a weekday (and show up 25 minutes late for an appointment that was booked in advance) is ridiculous. I hired Jacobson Locksmith to re-key a couple of locks at a rental property that I own. I contacted them over Yelp, and gave them my phone number so we could discuss the project. On the phone, I was quoted "$25-$45 per lock" that needs to be re-keyed. I went with them because they could arrive at my preferred day/time and the pricing seemed straightforward. After arriving, the locksmith took a look at the locks. The front door has deadbolt and knob that both need to be re-keyed, no problem. The rooftop door has just deadbolt, but we don't have a key. He tells me he can try and re-key and if he can't get it, he can replace the deadbolt if we want. 30 minutes later, front door locks are both re-keyed, and because he couldn't re-key the upstairs deadbolt I had him just put the existing lock back in. So, he re-keyed 2 locks. Gets time to settle the bill, and I'm charged $193!!! Of course, I get charged on the high-end for the 2 locks that were re-keyed ($45 each), plus $50 for 30 minutes "labor" because of him trying to re-key the other lock without success (no mention of this before he went to try and re-key the deadbolt), plus $29 fee for just showing up (no mention of this before this moment). And because I expected it to be in the $50-$150 range, I don't have enough cash to pay him so I have to pay a credit card processing fee. Why can't you just be upfront about your prices, labor costs, and appointment charges? I understand estimates don't always get stuck to, but this felt like a deliberate attempt to hide your fees until after the work was already done. I will not hire again, and I would suggest you find a different locksmith. read more

We got locked out of our apartment at midnight and were worried about finding a good locksmith so late. They had a guy out here within 10 minutes. Jim (our hero) was very friendly and was able to get us back in very quickly. Well worth the price and we would highly recommend them! read more

Had an issue with a keyless entry hole being too small. I didn't have the tools or the time to go buy the tools to make the updated change. Jacobson locksmith was quick to answer the help needed request. About an hour later the lock was installed and functioning. Very professional service and I highly recommend. read more

After another company postponed my residential lockout request, I sent requests through yelp. This company contacted me almost immediately. I asked for an estimate and they (the owner) gave me a price range. When the technician arrived (20 min later than he said), he quoted me the maximum amount in the range and denied knowing about any such range of prices. He said prices were set by the company and he had no control. I'm no expert, but this lock doesn't seem to be the maximum difficulty to land at the maximum price. After calling his boss (not the owner I had communicated with), they agreed to give a small discount (without price matching my other quote). The technician was great and remained calm and friendly even though my frustration was apparent. The job was done well with no damage, BUT there is a disconnect in communication and pricing between ownership/yelp communication and the technicians. I'm hoping the yelp price range wasn't a trick to get me to request the technician, but I'm skeptical. I can't be too mad because the quote was technically in the price range and my door was unlocked, but the whole experience left me less than satisfied. read more

TERRIBLE is all I can say besides STOP!!!!DONT LET CALL YHEM!!!! They gave me flat fee of 150 witch was great but the tech that came out messed my car up to where I had to have a second lock smith come out and figure out what happened and why he couldn't get the car to start. On top of it I had to take it to the dealer cause what ever he did the car would only start when it wanted to... my car was in perfect order till he touched it. And he charged me for just a door key that he had cut when all he had to do was cut an ignition key cause it's the same key.... not only did I pay twice for a service I had to pay another 200 to get the car program correctly witch is why he couldn't to get it to start... he deleted the program intirely and then tried to tell me he didn't do anything crazy as hell.. thanks Jacobson company!! Not only did your employee not do the job I had to pay two more times cause of his screw up...signed Chris Chatman........hell I can't even give them negative stars!!!!! read more
