This was a surprise. I always thought it was a hardware store. But, one night, while the wife and I were looking for a new place to eat on our Anniversary (I owed her a pizzaless evening), we found Jackson's. A quick check of Yelp told us it was a safe bet. It was! The food was excellent. The burger was succulent and juicy. They gave us an endless supply of chips to snack on while we waited for our appetizer. A bit of a glitch there; we ordered fried pickled and got fried fish instead. I called the hostess over and said, "hi, we ordered fried pickles and these are...kinda fish." She found this pretty funny and, honestly, so did I. The error was quickly rectified and the pickles came out in short order. My friend and I attended a yelp event at this venue and decided to stay for actual dinner and I am so happy we did. We both ordered from the pre-fixe menu aka "the neverending LI restaurant week" menu which consisted of an appetizer, entree and a dessert for $27.95. We thought we had to rush and eat because the restaurant closed at 10PM and we sat down about 9PM. However, our waitress, Veronica was an absolute sweetheart who informed us we could take our time. She was sooo friendly and patient with us throughout our dining experience. We noticed a few dining patrons coming in after 9PM and were welcomed. They restaurant also had a trivia game going on and we saw a few patrons playing at the bar. We started with some chips and dip which we needed because we were both famished. For our appetizers, my friend and I had the buffalo wings with celery and carrots and they were very tasty. I was shocked at the portion size and I made sure I didn't eat them all so I could enjoy more of my entree. We both also ordered the ribs as the entree and was shocked at how much meat was on the plate. I was ecstatic because I knew I would have food for lunch the next day if it tasted good. LOL. I truly enjoyed the meaty ribs with the flakes of pineapple really mixed well with the sauce. There was also a side of cole slaw and potatoes. I kept eating and eating but eventually gave up to leave some room for dessert. Veronica checked on us and we told her we were very pleased with our meals. For dessert, my friend had the pumpkin praline cheesecake with ice cream and I had the ice cream sundae and we both loved our desserts. It was refreshing to see a restaurant continue to serve and not rush their customers even though it was past their closing time. On a cold weekday's winters's night it was hoppin in Jackson's! The place was busy!!! A very good sign. I haven't been here in ages and it's retained all of the things I liked about it & has got some cool new things that I love!!! Like craft beer woo hoo!!! Had a sampling menu for an event. Loved the burnt sprout leaves, I've had similar dishes but these were different, maybe an Asian type of flavor to it, really yummy!!! This review is for a takeout order. I placed my order and was told 15-20 minutes. I arrived 25 minutes later and was greeted immediately and given my receipt. I signed the receipt and was told by the hostess my order "would be out soon." I waited about 10 minutes more as the hostess seated people and walked around. Finally, 35 minutes after placing my order, a waiter asked if I was picking up an order and handed me a bag that had been sitting on the counter since I arrived. I got home and was very disappointed by my order. The "hickory bacon burger" had one slice of bacon and one onion ring and the barbecue sauce was clumpy. The burger overall tasted incredible dry. The French Fries were limited, overlooked, and incredibly greasy. This place used to be delicious, but has gone terribly downhill. read more

I went to Jackson's on a Saturday night with my family for my birthday dinner. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation but were seated right away, it was 6:00 pm. Our waitress was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, her service is the reason that I am giving this place three stars, because the food was not up to par with the rating. For appetizers we ordered the soft pretzels and the spicy calamari. The calamari was tender, sweet and just a little spicy, overall a great dish. The soft pretzel was not salted enough and a little bland, with the hummus it was served with being the star of the dish. For entrees I ordered Pearl's Fine Friend Chicken, and let me just say that the name speaks for itself because the chicken was just fine, not good, not great, but just fine. They gave me four nice pieces but overall they were lacking seasoning, dry and only some of them were crispy. The sides were definitely better than the chicken. The cole slaw was the perfect amount of sweetness and crispness. The biscuit was flaky with some delicious melted cheese on top. The mashed potatoes were not great, with the texture being paste-like and lacking some seasoning. My brother enjoyed his huge portion of jambalaya, saying it had the perfect amount of kick to it. My mom ordered the grilled chicken and it came out cooked to death and bone-dry. The grilled vegetables it was served with were not cooked all the way through and were still slightly raw. The roasted sweet potatoes she ordered with it were the saving grace of her plate and were the only thing she enjoyed in that dish. My dad ordered the Gypsy bowl with blackened chicken and would have enjoyed it, if the entire thing wasn't cold. Overall the food was just ok, even though the service was excellent. Stop by here for a casual place to hang out with friends and get a drink, but be careful while selecting dishes from the menu because the dishes are hit or miss. read more

I visited this restaurant with a friend to attend a yelp elite event where we sampled appetizers. The featured tastings were delicious but definitely did not make a meal so we stayed afterwards for dinner. Lucky for us we were there during LI restaurant week so we were able to enjoy a appetizer, entree and dessert at a reasonable price ($27.95). We were initially afraid that we would have to hurry or be rushed through our meal because it was close to their closing time when we were seated. But our waitress - Veronica, who provided us with excellent service-assured us that we could take our time. For our meals my friend and I both ordered buffalo wings for the appetizer with the BBQ ribs for our entree. The portions were generous and the food tasted great. My favorite part of my meal were the ribs because they reminded me of my visit to Hawaii. The style and taste of their ribs reminded me of how they prepared BBQ in Hawaii. The meat was very tender and seasoned well without excessive salt or the usual overly salty taste of typical BBQ. Dessert was also great, I had their pumpkin praline cheesecake while my friend had their hot fudge sundae. The next tine I find myself in the area I'll definitely be visiting Jacksons again. Sadly, I'd like to give a better review. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating. The food however has been disappointing. I've been there three times. The first with my wife and I found my entree' disappointing. It was OK, but nothing special and I never went back there on my own. The 2nd as a guest of a party. My vegetable pasta was undercooked, underflavored, and most of it went uneaten and into the garbage. The 3rd was also as a guest for lunch. My 3 egg omelette was easily the worst omelette I've ever had at a restaurant. Dry, overcooked, barelt warm, and flavorless. Any of the local Diners run rings around what I was served. There have always been very nice people working at Jacksons, but they can't overcome how disappointing the food has always been. read more

I never write negative reviews especially coming from the restaurant business myself but first off when I got there we were seated at a table that was not clean. This is fine but, they never really helped us and kept us waiting. A waitress asked us to sit at a dirty table and a bus boy kept passing by cleaning all the empty tables and the table next to us never acknowledged our table then the table behind us that came 10 minutes after us got helped before us. All this happened and twenty minutes later we had to get up and leave, no one even acknowledged that we were there or that we left. Horrible experience. read more

Yummmmmm! Got delivery through DD. The burger was amazing! Perfectly cooked mid rare. Added on bacon, cheese and mushrooms and couldn't belive the amount of crispy bacon. Naked wings cooked to perfection. Glitch with DD so got charged $22 for 8 wings so just watch out for that. The loaded ceaser was awesome as well. Went for dinner on Halloween and were very disappointed and in no rush to go back. We had been here a number of times before over the years (by no means were we regulars) and the food and service was always solid. SERVICE: Our waitress was almost non existent in her disco costume... had to stare her down to order a second drink. Again had to flag her down long after our dinners were finished to get the check and finally asked another server to run the credit card because our server had disappeared yet again. As we were getting ready to leave, we heard someone at the next table ordering something that was not on the printed menu... were there specials? Who knows, our server never mentioned them. The bad - first appetizers and then the entrees took forever to come out. My burger came out with fries instead of the side that I ordered. My wife's seafood platter - the fried scallops were sitting in water and were soggy, the fried cod was not crunchy and flavorless. Why not send the food back you ask... we had already spent so much time waiting on the food, we decided to cut our losses and not waste any more time waiting on food. OTHER: There was some sort of Halloween party going on in their party room... the live band was very loud and every time the door opened, or was left open, we couldn't hear each other. FOOD POISONING ALERT! DO NOT GO HERE... I decided to have a family birthday dinner here and received nice gift (food poisoning) from this restaurant for the special occasion. Both myself and my girlfriend were violently ill within a day and stayed sick for an entire week. My girlfriend became so ill that she was admitted into the hospital. This is where we found out that our sickness was due to a bacteria (campylobacter) from a test they took. After finding this information out, I contacted Jackson's and advised them of what had happened. To my surprise they were completely unresponsive to the matter and the owner could careless (would not speak to me). Please do not give this restaurant your business or your health. We've been here a couple of times now, and every time there's a little something wrong. This time, I ordered a french dip and the waitress didn't bring out the au jus, and when it did come, the sandwich was cold. It just seems like there isn't any quality control there. Also kids are dying everywhere of hunger and dehydration from diarrhea, but I have an issue with how long it took for my au jus to arrive. None of this matters. We are all gonna be under water soon. I ate at Jackson's for the first time last week and really enjoyed my dinner. I like that our server knew about food allergies and offered some recommendations and was quick to take drink orders, refill water, and take our food order. She checked in with us often throughout the night. I ordered a Turkey & Goat Cheese Burger without a bun (I have a gluten allergy), but it was missing some ingredients. Our server was nice enough to bring what was missing, but there was still another item missing from my burger and I wish I had a chance to try it the way the menu described it. I love the ambience and craft beer menu, but my suggestion is bringing the lighting a tad brighter in the dining area. We held my sisters baby shower here and I have to say I would not recommend it. They were not in the least bit accommodating, the waitstaff was very rude (even made a comment about my sister being high maintenance before she got to the shower because we rearranged some things to make it nice). The restaurant provided dirty linens and then seemed put off when asked for clean ones, forgot parts of the meal (chips, the mom to be's food) Did not attend to the room at all for over an hour. Did not refill waters unless prompted, no salt and peppers provided on tables and only offered coffee to half our guests. They also ran bar tabs for guests and then insisted the cash customers did not pay and still owed money. At one point the mother of the guest of honor went into the ladies room (or attempted to) and had the door shut in her face by a member of management who was discussing paint colors with someone else. They could have just said to come back but no; no words, they just shut the door in her face. The food was mediocre at best. Dry steak, gummy potatoes, french toast with no flavor and wilted overdressed salad. Bar drinks are poorly made, bad tasting and overpriced. Between the service and the food I would never go back or hold an event here again. read more

So I went to Jacksons last night on a first date. We ordered some drinks and some tacos. The first drinks that were brought to us . Were so weak We could not even taste the liquor. We ordered the steak taco and the mahi taco Nice portion very bad presentation they look like they were slap on a platter. The mahi was so dry It was almost cardboard the steak was saved my seasoning. When we ordered our second round of drinks .We politely asked the waitress if she could have the bartender put some more vodka in She made a face and was on her way. The drinks came back fine but five mins later she was telling us That we could sit at the table but she had to close out and if we wanted anything else we had to go to the bar. At this point it was only 815 we were there for 45 minutes so for the disgusting food and four drinks it was 82.00 We got to sit down for one hour and we were still hungry because the food was really not edible. The waitress should not be in the Service Industry And this place really needs to revamp. I have not been there in a few years and I could not believe that the Decline. But now I understand why it was almost completely empty at 8 o'clock. I will never go back there again and I really feel that anybody else who decides to go there should really read this post. Went for the first time with my girlfriend. First notice the place is very dated. One waitress called out so the other was running crazy.. she's the only high point. Service was slow but again one waitress.. we ordered quite a few things as I was starving. All I can say there was nothing that tasted good. Ribs tasted boiled with no taste, fries limp, Mac and cheese tasteless and Brussel sprouts tasteless.. the food is so unexpectedly poor and I don't know how they exist. We just had a baby shower today for 25 people for brunch. Where do I start. The food did not arrive until I asked for it 3 times. They could not adjust the music. It was either too loud or too soft. The food was served on platters just one little portion per person. Since it was buffet setup, we expected to go for seconds or have them replenish the food. It was embarrassing for me that the late comers had no food left for them. For what they charge per person, they were very cheap in the amount of food they served. Now let's discuss the drinks. We were promised unlimited sodas and coffee. They have poured water for every person and did not bring out any other drinks until I asked for coffee. The coffee was cold and they were not replenishing on time with cake again until we asked for. They claimed that there was no cake leftover or any food. We paid for 25 people brunch buffet , but only had 22 guests. On top of all that we were overcharged $200. My husband had to go back and get the money from them. So, Jackson's has officially crapped the bed. It was a favorite spot of mine for many years. Had a reservation last night for four. We had to wait 15 minutes--no problem as I enjoy having a drink at the bar. I waited at the bar for 20 minutes. The bar tender was busy doing everything except taking drink orders. I was not the only one who noticed this. There were others waiting for a drink while he straightened up, restocked glasses and took a walk around the restaurant. By the time he decided to actually tend bar, 20 minutes had gone by, I had lost desire for a drink and my table was ready. The menu, which used to be great has changed for the worse. It used to be quite large with some great options. No more. Our waiter was totally inexperienced and did not know the menu. He was clearly in over his head and we suffered for it. Jackson's is a really cool place to get some good food and great tap beers. They rotate their selection of draft beers some local such as Sand City and far such as Sloop! They now have the Impossible Burger which is a plant based burger suitable for vegans and vegetarians on the menu for 16.00. The only flaw is that it comes on a brioche bun which isn't vegan and it comes with coleslaw. I asked for the multigrain bun and steak fries (they said they have parm cheese on them so I got regular fries. They should label the item as not vegan. read more

Being unfamiliar with the Commack area, I used to bring dates here all the time. That should say a few things... 1. That I'm a classy mofo. 2. That it has good eats and has a nice interior. Nothing ruins a date more than crap food in a dingy spot and you know this, man. Any who, it's nice to see that they've improved upon what I always enjoyed. On my most recent visit, I saw an updated menu and lots of craft brews on tap. Huzzah! On to the eats! My brew, the Thirsty Dog Labrador Lager was dope and an order of the pastrami reuben was so damn good. Probably the worst experience I ever had I ordered a French dip in my wife ordered brisket the French dip the role was ten times bigger than the amount and the meat wasn't cooked in some spots it was raw had to send it back my wife's brisket 50% of it was fat and was unedible. So a few places we wanted to go and eat at had a minimum 45 minute wait so my brother-in-law recommended we all come here for dinner couple of weeks ago. We called and asked if we need to put in reservation and the girl on the phone said no come on in no wait. We arrived at the location walk in and the girl asked us if we had a reservation we said no we literally called few minutes ago and you told us to come on in. So that was the first sign that things were only gonna get worse. Few minutes later we are finally seated. About 15 minutes later no we finally get the waitress to come over. Second sign things are getting worse. The lady was kind of rude with her comments and she is an older lady looked like her mid 70 and I believe her name was Susan or something with an S. She takes our order and leaves. Keep in mind we still have no silverware,plates,napkins, water nothing. I got a fired chicken sandwich and my wife got a burger my sister got a steak sandwich and my brother in-law got jumbilia and the kids got chicken fingers and French fries. The food finally came and by far one of the worst meals of my life on earth. My chicken sandwich was disgusting and the chicken was dark meat just nasty zero flavor took a bite and just left the rest. My wife's burger had no flavor the fires were horrible.., like how do you mess up fries??? The whole experience was horrible we kept feeling like we were in a tv show and waiting for the cameras to come out and say you got punked or what would you do tv show to see how much people can take of horrible service and food before they explode.. but unfortunately for us no cameras this was real life . I've probably passed Jackson's a million times on Jericho Turnpike and never noticed it was there. I came in because I was served an ad on Facebook and decided that I wanted to try it out and I'm so glad I did. My friend and I came on last minute plans on a Friday night so when we arrived, it was packed, the wait for the two of us was 45 minutes. There's a bar right near the entrance and right after I gave my name, two seats opened up! We sat at the bar and I was pleasantly suprised to see Goose Island Sofie on tap. The only other time I've had it was in Chicago in their brewery and it's really good. The bartending staff was very attentive. The wait flew by and before we knew it we were seated. Now on to the food! We were immediately served black bean dip with tortilla chips. I hate black beans but this dip was REALLY good. Creamy texture, definitely tasted of black beans, slightly spicy. My friend and I split the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps as an app. The chicken was excellent and had great flavor. It's also served with some sauteed zucchini, carrots and some other green for topping. You have to assemble the wraps yourself. My only complaint is that they put all the ingredients in lettuce leaves which makes a bit of a mess. But the wraps were delicious. For dinner I ordered the Pear and Gorgonzola salad with Roasted Chicken. They use spinach for the greens which I love. The spinach was also really fresh. There were perfect amounts of all ingredients except for the cranberries which I felt there were way too many, but in the end, I'd rather have more than less. The chicken on the salad was good too, nothing special about the flavor, but it was cooked perfectly. Their beer menu is massive and they have a lot of really awesome craft beers. A flight is only $10. You probably get the equivalent of 1.5-2 beers, but I love being able to sample multiple flavors and for that cost, I'm totally in. The staff was really attentive, our server checked on us multiple times. The longest wait was for our entrées but my friend and I was deep in conversation so it was alright. At the end of the night, I paid about $45 before tip for a beer, a flight, a shared entrée and an app. I'm sad I haven't found this place sooner, I'm really looking forward to my next visit! read more

Jackson's catered my sister's wedding this past weekend offsite in Setauket, NY. The highlights: The provided an amazing cocktail hour--which in my tequila infused state referred to as "happy hour" all night long. It did make me happy though for the following reasons: 1. The drinks were prefect. 2. Lobster rolls, crab cakes, hushpuppies and amazing NE clam chowder bar (oh yes they did). and 3. My bite of the night: tuna taco. So amazing, perfectly seasoned, sauced and executed! 4. Custom drinks--named just for the happy couple :). Although the bride and groom did not necessarily want a salad course at first, I am glad they eventually decided to have one. The salad was perfect: crisp mixed greens, blue cheese, beets and pickled onions. Dinner buffet. No heated chaffing pans, the food was constantly being refreshed from the adjacent kitchen. Shrimp and grits were great. In fact, shrimp was out when I went up but a server brought me a dozen hot out of the pan as I sat down to eat. Then there was a make your own Mac-n-cheese section: bacon, hot peppers, fire roasted corn, etc. But the BEST part of dinner were those short ribs! Thanks to Shelby, Harry and the rest of the crew!!! I had time to kill while my Jeep was getting an oil change across the street. This place has been a round for a while and one of those places that I wouldn't go to spontaneously. Seems like a more sophisticated American style restaurant, they offer similar menu options as your local chained restaurant would. I sat on the side of the restaurant where no one was seated since I was dining alone (lol). Once I ordered my salmon, I didn't see the wait staff (if there was one) or the hostess until my food came out. It was cooked over Asian style vegetables and rice. Jackson's Restaurant - Teriyaki Salmon with Wild Rice - American Near Me - Commack, New York

I hit Jackson's because it was on Newsday's Top 100 restaurants list. And I waited a while to write this, because I wanted my impressions to really sink in. If I had a 3 1/2 star button to hit, I probably would have. I get the feeling atmosphere-wise that if I was a regular at the bar I would love this place a lot more. Good drinks and an excellent selection for beer helps immensely. I had a wonderful pilsner, although like most craft pilsner's it was a little too musty and not quite clean enough. The Spicy Lobster Eggrolls tasted excellent, but there was so much emphasis on being spicy that the lobster got lost in the mix. We also tried the Korean Steak Taco's. Again, tasty, but I was surprised this was served cold. It's listed under street food, and Korean taco's on the streets of NYC are never served cold. I've only had about a million of them. The pickled veggies on the taco were a nice touch though. We split up the burger, and again, it was good, but not overly memorable. this is the recurring theme, that everything is good, but nothing is off the charts. Our favorite was Pearl's Fried Chicken. The chicken was cooked very well, crispy, tasty, and the closest thing to an item that I would re-order if I went back. The cheese fries in gravy were constructed almost upside down, and I didn't really sense the cheese. It was more like regular french fries dropped into a bath of gravy, instead of the gravy put on top of the fries. A subtle distinction, but if you order them you will see what I mean. I'd rather go for fries with gravy at a local diner. And the cheesy biscuit was doughy instead of flaky. Our server was cheery, friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and the fact that they have sort of a private large parking lot is helpful with Long Island parking issues. The food is good, but it just missed the 'wow' factor, and frankly for the type of place it is, it's also not cheap. To get me to return, I need that wow factor, and that's why I landed on three stars instead of four. read more
