We had shrimp cocktail and arancini to start- both delicious, the Cacio e Pepe sauce for the arancini was new and very good but it definitely is not a light app. For dinner I had the beef and goat cheese salad- not super filling but lots of beets and pecans which I enjoyed a lot. I came here with my book club and they were gracious enough to give us individual checks, which I know is such a pain for places to do, and it was much appreciated. I had a clam and chorizo appetizer which was very tasty, then the fish and chips for my entree. I've had the fish and chips here before, but this time was a miss. The breading was still wet and not fried through, so that was disappointing, but everyone else enjoyed their meals. For dessert I had a brownie sundae which was super delicious. Stopped in here one day. Loved the ambiance, the friendly wait staff. My waitress was extremely knowledgeable and knew all the specials and details of the specials off the top of her head. If you're looking for the quintessential 1970s-style steakhouse with a roaring fireplace (it's gas but looks wood-burning), Old Fields will make you happy. To be clear, as one would suspect, you won't be thrilled with the food if you are a vegetarian. Yes, there's an option and it's a housemade burger but it's not to my liking. Apparently they used to have a really good cauliflower steak but it's no longer on the menu. It's disappointing, however, my time spent in the bar portion of the restaurant made up for it in droves! After we finished dinner (while the back room is slightly less atmospheric, it has cozy booths), we moved up to the bar and fireplace area. In front of the fireplace is a long table and we were lucky to grab seats and enjoy drinks for the rest of the night. This is all I ever want in a bar, honestly. first time family ate here. when we walked in there were 3 hostess girls. the one who sat us wearing jeans with pearls on them was great. however the shortest girl who was was black pants with white stripes was not friendly at all. she was looking up and down at my daughter and the other hostess with the pearls on her jeans needed to tell her to stop what she was doing. When I first went this year with my wife and friends, I had the Flatiron steak with original 1956 marinade. I enjoyed a solo dinner recently by the fireplace, and wanted to try one of the other steaks, and the knowledgeable waiter recommended the marinated skirt steak, which was so good I finished every last bite. The fried pickles, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach are amazing too. Customer service at old fields is spot on from the bartender Ron to the hostess at the front desk! Came in on a Saturday evening and was seated immediately! Why the 3 stars it's basically my critical critique on the food. To start off the old fashion made by Ron the bartender was simply Devine would highly recommend it. We ordered 1. Oyster 1/2 doz : was good as expected 2. Beet and goat cheese : The candied pecans or walnuts was the star of the dish - the beets tasted as if they were picked and not roasted fresh (tiny cubes) - odd assembly- combined taste good 3. Porkchop: I really wanted to like this dish but it was not cooked to expectations - the meat was a bit undercooked in some areas and the rest was a bit dry - again the overall taste was good- too much greens on top made the porkchop soggy. 4. Flat iron: now this was made perfectly ! Taste was amazing no sauce needed ! Juicy and cooked to perfection(med-rare) I would highly recommend this dish. What a fantastic night out! Once inside, you get such a cozy feel! Small bar area but plenty of seating in this restaurant. We made our way to a booth and our waitress was awesome! We started off with wine and mango jalapeño margaritas! Sooooo good! My friends and I also started with French onion soup- one is the bests I've ever had!!!! My friend raves about the skirt steak but I went with the buttermilk fried chicken.... it did not disappoint! The breading on the chicken was crispy and flavorful while the chicken was so moist! The street corn is fabulous and the mashed potatoes were devoured! I opted for the mac and cheese instead of coleslaw and I was so happy I did! I have leftovers for tomorrow and I can't wait haha! The menu has a number of dinner dishes besides the brunch menu. The waitress got our drink orders in while we pondered the appetizer. The fried Popcorn Chicken was very good. I had a great meal at Old Fields after a series of disappointing meals. I started with a PERFECT "filthy dirty martini" which was stuffed with blue cheese olives. My husband and I shared the burrata appetizer which was served with tomatoes, basil, and champagne vinaigrette. While we waited for our main courses, we were served a delicous corn chowder in a small teacup. Nice touch! As my entree, I had the short rib risotto which was amazing. I've been going to Old Fields for over thirty years and have been satisfied and it has been my choice for my birthday & others & out with friends & alone. I went not to long ago, I also go to Oldfields bbq in Huntington village. This time , I was very disappointed and spent a lot of money alone . The waitress took her time to come to service, she was nonchalant and never told me nights specials,I had to ask! I ordered a cocktail, Expresso martini, which was good, I sent bartender a tip by my waitress. I ordered filet mignon but it was over cooked, and there was some other issue, she never returned to table to check if I was ok. I hate to address this, but I am a person of color , but never felt disrespected there until that meal, the Manager could see, I was sad, and came over and did offer, to redo my meal, which, I accepted. The rude waitress brought the bill,I purposely gave her my usual generous tip of over 30% or more it was 62$. I think she assumed because of who , I was, she wouldn't get a good tip, but I needed to teach her young age a lesson. She actually ran to her fellow staff waitresses and told them, I gave her a 62$ tip! I heard her, so it confirmed my point that she'd been having an attitude about me ! She never returned to say thank you or ask how everything or I was and I doubt she was aware the manager had redone my food as I didn't rat her out at that time ! I prefer to save it for the owner as I wanted to see if she would redeem herself, she never did ! I know the owner, he was in earlier, and I said hello & commented in BBQ restaurant success. Later, I request if waitress,I would like to speak to him, as I had something else to tell him& let him no, I did decide to eat there that night( as wasn't sure when saw him earlier, she never told him or brought him over and I know that's Not his character. I know the tone of the country is changing no pun intended, but I mean attitudes . I still plan to report her to him, as her attitude, was very insolent & old fields is not cheap & I had been going for years ! I have been to BBQ since, but am turned off from old restaurant! I have spent much money & time there. I went somewhere else for my birthday and friends birthday later in year ! " Bryants" restaurant ,had great food, excellent service and great attitude s and was fun ! I saved her name and will advise the owner.
