Went on a Sunday evening with my family. It's a "warmly" decorated place. The menu has some really decent looking items on it. They weren't super busy. Our waitress was very nice, and truly felt responsible for the events that were about to unfold, even though none of them were her fault. I ordered the duck French dip and requested no onions, with asparagus instead of fries. My bf ordered a well done burger, my dad a medium well burger, and my stepmom a rare burger. It took a fairly long time for food to come out- mine was extra loaded with onions, my bf and dads burgers were rare. My asparagus didn't come out, and my stepmoms onion rings were missing. We sent back the burgers and duck, and 20 mins later the waitress tells me they can't serve it without onions because they're cooked together- why they didn't say that over an hour ago when I ordered it ? I said ok, just bring it with as little onion as possible and I'll pick it off. 10 more mins my bf and dads burgers come back, onion rings finally come out, he bites into the burger, now it's medium rare. He gave up and loaded it with ketchup and ate it. My food was still nowhere to be found. Finally my asparagus comes out, and it's barely cooked..whatever I'm hungry and I eat it. Everyone is pretty much done and my duck finally comes out with scant onions, I pick off what's still on there, eat it and it's delicious. The waitress says she doesn't know what's happening, the kitchen is just having a really off night and apologized constantly. They offered a free dessert which we declined. I've been going to Old Fields for over thirty years and have been satisfied and it has been my choice for my birthday & others & out with friends & alone. I went not to long ago, I also go to Oldfields bbq in Huntington village. This time , I was very disappointed and spent a lot of money alone . The waitress took her time to come to service, she was nonchalant and never told me nights specials,I had to ask! I ordered a cocktail, Expresso martini, which was good, I sent bartender a tip by my waitress. I ordered filet mignon but it was over cooked, and there was some other issue, she never returned to table to check if I was ok. I hate to address this, but I am a person of color , but never felt disrespected there until that meal, the Manager could see, I was sad, and came over and did offer, to redo my meal, which, I accepted. The rude waitress brought the bill,I purposely gave her my usual generous tip of over 30% or more it was 62$. I think she assumed because of who , I was, she wouldn't get a good tip, but I needed to teach her young age a lesson. She actually ran to her fellow staff waitresses and told them, I gave her a 62$ tip! I heard her, so it confirmed my point that she'd been having an attitude about me ! She never returned to say thank you or ask how everything or I was and I doubt she was aware the manager had redone my food as I didn't rat her out at that time ! I prefer to save it for the owner as I wanted to see if she would redeem herself, she never did ! I know the owner, he was in earlier, and I said hello & commented in BBQ restaurant success. Later, I request if waitress,I would like to speak to him, as I had something else to tell him& let him no, I did decide to eat there that night( as wasn't sure when saw him earlier, she never told him or brought him over and I know that's Not his character. Had dinner on a Friday in May at Old Fields. We hadn't been to the restaurant in many years. What a great meal we both had. My fish and chips (I actually substituted mashed potatoes for the fries- super accommodating) was excellent. My husband had the pork chop special and is still talking about it. Seems like the place fills up with locals fast, so consider going a little early. read more

I had my husband grad party here. There were about 22 of us. Everything was great. We had the back room all to ourselves. The bartender, servers and manager were awesome. I chose this place because it had four stars on Yelp. It did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the service was good and we were seated in a timely manner. If there's one criticism it's that the dining room was noisy. I ordered the flat iron steak with grilled onions. It was cooked exactly how I liked it and tasted wonderful. The sides -- mashed potatoes and asparagus -- were also quite good. My dinner companion had the oysters as an appetizer and said they were also very good. Is Old Fields a destination you go out of your way to find? Probably not....but if you find yourself in Suffolk County it should be on your list. read more

Nothing beats an in-person old fields experience! The food and staff are incredible. The portions are large and we usually always have leftovers to take home with us. We loved our meals this time around - especially the wedge salad ! For a party of 3 our entire dinner came to $170 which is a little pricier than what other restaurants in the area. Really disappointed tonight. We ordered takeout. When you order from a steakhouse you expect steakhouse. Ordered the burger which was incredibly dry and served with shoestring fries, what steakhouse serves shoestring fries? Where were the steakhouse fries? The onion rings were like the frozen ones I buy at the store in the freezer section. The pickle was good but definitely not your quality pickle. Also ordered the fried chicken dinner. We've been to Old Fields a couple of times. We probably would go more if they had a better beer selection. We almost didn't go tonight. The Lark and Jackson's were the other restaurants in the running. Both of those places have better beer lists. However, since we were close by, we decided to go to Old Fields. The food here is always solid. The burger I had tonight was outstanding. Probably the best burger you can get in the area. The burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The kids loved their burger and fries. We also enjoyed the calamari appetizer. The Manhattan clam chowder was so so. On the down side was the beer list. My wife and I couldn't decide what to drink. The only IPA on draft was Ballast Point. With so many great local breweries, why have a mediocre west coast brand? I don't understand that decision. The rest of the taps they had were ehhh. My wife went with the Sculpin and I went with a Prosecco. For whatever reason, both drinks were not that cold. We dealt with it. I'm sure we'll go back to Old Fields. Went last night. The prices are outrageous. My husband and I had two salads and appetizer. We had about two drinks each. With tip the bill was 232. We used to come here all the time. The bill was always a lot less. I know everything is more, but $19 for a glass of wine is outrageous. My husband's salad was almost $40, actually $39. Not sure what is going on, but we won't be back. REVIEW IS FOR ELLA'S POP-UP: SUMMER 2020 My wife, daughter and I had dinner at Ella's last week. I don't think they take reservations, but there were plenty of picnic tables along the sidewalk. The staff was friendly, and the service was quick. My daughter had a kid's cheeseburger and fries, which were surprisingly good. Definitely better than expected. My wife and I had tacos - hers Al Pastor, mine, the fish. Delish. I had a margarita, which were tasty, for the price (maybe about $10?) It was good to get out, and eat al fresco. I wish the dudes in pickups didn't hang out the window trying to catch wait staff for takeaway wings, it was distracting. Park yourself and walk over like an adult. We used to eat at Old Fields back in the day before they got the flat-screen TV's and cocktail menu. My understanding is that the marinated steaks are still very much a thing, and will be back after the summer. I want to come back and give them a whirl, see if they still got it. Five stars b/c aside from Huntington Village (crowded) and maybe Northport, I don't think anyone is doing anything like this, anywhere. And as for to-go cocktails, my experience from most places has been plastic cups, not flasks, so I don't know where Lori Ann is going. I travel often for work and recently found myself on Long Island with a serious consideration: to drive roughly 3 hours round-trip to dine in the city, or to stay local. I can now say without reservation that my decision to dine at the nearby Old Fields was the greatest success of this most recent visit to NY. The entire staff is friendly and helps each other, from the front door to the management. As their guest, this created a spectacular experience from start to finish. The servers are extremely knowledgable but approachable. The atmosphere is on point and the food was delicious. Shortly after ordering, the manager delivered a complimentary portion of French Onion soup - the stock used as a base was beyond words. All while listening to some of my favorite classic rock jams. The only constructive criticism I have is for the chef: If it isn't helping your menu, it's not helping your reputation for incredible food. And most aspects of everything I ordered WERE incredible. Specifically, I noticed the following... Bleu cheese on the mixed greens was not moist/aromatic enough to add to the dish. Asparagus was slightly over-cooked I had a steak marinaded in signature 1956 that was heavily in need of salt. All of this to say: if you're on Long Island, make the drive. This review is for their summer 2020 outdoor pop up: Ella's. They need a better way of packaging cocktails for takeout. Most places are doing flasks or some kind of bottle with a screw top. They did a plastic-wrapped plastic cup. While the plastic prevented it from spilling on the car, it did come home a mess from spillage into the plastic wrap. Drinks were good, but not as good as what we've had in the restaurant. Guacamole was good and smooth, but quite a bit more acidic than I would have liked. Tortilla chips were tasty. The sticky fingers special--kind of like pizza rolls with n'djua and a blue cheese dip--were quite yummy. Would love to see those stay on the menu. The summer melon salad is quite delicious. Nice, ripe, sweet, and juicy honeydew and cantaloupe, fried provolone, prosciutto, pesto, and some shaved cheese. Really beautiful combo. We tried "The Blueprint" pizza. It was truly excellent, but came loaded with red pepper flakes (which weren't listed on the menu.) I can't do spicy, so while I appreciate that the pizza is objectively delicious, I couldn't eat it. We also tried the Dark Side of the Moon pizza--duck and Brie. I really enjoyed that. It's nice on the wood-fired crust--it gives it a really nice toasty element. Quite good. Overall we're pretty impressed with the pop-up, and will look forward to getting food again from there this summer. read more

Classic spot for a good burger or brunch item. Really fun place to go with friends - small groups or larger groups. They can accommodate a fairly large group. Wait times are worth sticking out. French onion soup is one of my favorites. Burgers knock it out of the park every time. Bloody Marys come with sassy additions other than the classic celery stalk. Decent beers on tap, quality cocktails, nice wine selection. I have really never had a mediocre experience here except the last time I came with about 10 people for brunch for a friends birthday. Brunch options include no sweet items like pancakes or waffles...not even chicken and waffles. That was kind of a bummer for my fiance. I had an OK BLT that brunch. Every other time we visit it's been a homerun of a meal, no question. It's one of my fiance's favorite places to go for delicious and perfectly made steaks with his guy friends. If not for that last experience, It'd be a 5-star. It will certainly not keep me from going back many times, and I can't wait to try their new BBQ spot in Huntington. read more

Once we were seated, it took a little while for our server to come to us, and because of that we got a complimentary appetizer which was super nice. Old Fields 1000% deserves five stars. Outstanding food, excellent service and awesome atmosphere makes this establishment a place my wife and I love to frequent. A few tips: - Best place to sit in my opinion is in the bar section in the front. They only allow 18 and over in this area, so if you're bringing the kids, The next best area to sit would be the area to the right of the bar section. There is a back room where there is also ample seating, but for atmosphere purposes, I would go with the front or side area. - All the wait staff are extremely nice and accommodating. We've sat with Greg G. a few times and he has been the best. - They only make reservations for 6+ people, so I would recommend getting there early over the weekend. - Outstanding beer selection on tap. Definitely go out of your comfort zone and try one of the specials. They carry some great IPA varieties. - Best turkey burger I have ever had is at Old Fields. Order it exactly the way it comes, and the flavor / texture are the best! - You have to try the steak fries. They are some of the best fries that I have ever tasted. Old Fields doesn't give ketchup bottles for the table, so if you are a ketchup nut like me, I would ask for additional individual cups of it. - The skirt steak is marinated to perfection. I order mine medium rare, and it is incredibly satisfying. - When they have the fire roasted corn on the cob special, I highly suggest you try it. It's one of the most unique corn on the cobs that you'll ever have. Unique AND fantastic. You have to eat it by using your knife to shave off all the pieces of corn... unless you'd like to get your hands and face all dirty with the white sauce that's drizzled over it. - Can't be a huge fan of everything that they have. Not in love with the short ribs in risotto. The risotto is fantastic itself, but the meat is somewhat stringy and not nearly as flavorful as their steaks. - Going backwards for starters, The spinach and artichoke dip is definitely homemade. You can tell because it's not processed like the chain restaurants have it. It's very cheesy and very fresh. Instead of chips, they surround it with pita bread wedges. - For finishers, their bread pudding is one of the best bread puddings I have ever had. At this point you should be extremely stuffed with the meal, so my recommendation is that you order one bread putting for every three people. Steaks / Pub We hit up Old Fields because we were in the mood for steaks - and we were in the area and as it was early, we were able to score a few seats at the bar. First off, let me say that they make an ass-kicking man sized drink in this place. Glasses were big and the got you on your way. Worth every penny. Bartenders are spot on but they could have been a little better with buy-backs... don't think we got but one on a whole lot of drinks. The menu proper was decent but not gigantic. I thought there were enough choices and we all settled for some version of their steaks. I went with a marinated skirt steak; the marinade is apparently from the 50's and has been passed down from generation to generation. It was ok - I didn't find it that mind blowing, but it was fine enough. The steaks came out cooked as requested and everyone in my party seemed to enjoy theirs. I had some mixed veggies and fries as well and both were cooked perfectly. I was happy to see that the veggie medley was not the same ole that you get everywhere, but an interesting mix of fennel, carrots, and maybe some arugula. Nice place, great location in the heart of tiny, often overlooked Greenlawn, LI, NY. It's been there FOREVER, but it took a generous gift card to get us in the door. Looks like it's getting plenty of attention though, as it's apparently been listed as one of Long Island's 100 best restaurants. I'm not quite sure I'd go that far, but it was VERY busy on a recent Saturday night. We weren't able to make a reservation, as we were five people, and were told they only take reservations for six or more (?!?) and had to wait an uncomfortable 10-15 minutes all squeezed into the entry/bar area, but we were pretty lucky (at 6:30pm) and were seated relatively quickly. Server came pretty soon to take our drink and appetizer order (wonderful spinach and artichoke dip with warm pita bread) and listed the tempting-sounding specials. None of us are big steak eaters, but they've got a large number of choices, all pretty pricey (to me), along with some great looking fish, seafood, and my lone veggie/pasta choice, Ravioli (other than some interesting sounding salads, available with or without meat). Maybe I've been gone from NY too long, and/or I'm just a die-hard cheapo (don't want to spend a ton of $$$ even with a gift card!!) but in spite of being a "nice enough" place, I don't think the prices matched what we were offered. Go if you're in the area, esp. for some more reasonable burger and sandwich choices at lunch time/off hours, and I hear they also have a great brunch. Very nice local neighborhood restaurant. I enjoyed the marinated skirt steak and I topped it with sauteed red onions and blue cheese, most enjoyable! The steak came with red skin mashed potato's and roasted asparagus. We also had the short ribs and goat cheese risotto, also very good. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks were made with a heavy pour and the Long Island Ice Tea was a 10, just made perfectly. The Key lime martini was a little to sweet for my taste. The crowd was mixed(all different age groups) and everyone was having a good time. My only negative was the limited menu, just wish they had a few more choices and specials. read more
