We stopped by Triano's while we were in the area. It's an old-school bakery that opens at 8 AM. I went in a little before 9:30 AM and found a line, along with a note on the door stating they would be restocking bakery items. To be honest, the selection was pretty limited. I asked if they had fresh bread, but they didn't, which I found surprising. I ended up getting a cherry coffee cake (which was delicious) and a few brownies. They had a few cakes and other items, but it was unusual to see a bakery nearly sold out so early in the morning. Prices are reasonable, and they offer a 4% discount if you pay with cash. Ordered a birthday cake remotely for a local family member. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, despite me calling 9 minutes before closing. I was able to order exactly what I needed and arrange payment over the phone, as well as coordinate pick up by another person. Upon entering, I was surprised by how SMALL this bakery was given their output - cakes, cookies, bars, breads, and so much more! Whatever staff member you're working with will be quick to help you get whatever it is you're looking for. One of the best things about this bakery is certainly the prices. Everything is SO reasonably priced, it'd be worth it for me to drive out of my way to just to grab some treats given the money saved. I didn't try anything (shame on me) but the recipients said their goodies were AMAZING and everything looked fantastic. When I lived in Rochester I came here now and then, mostly because it was right next door to where I got my hair cut. Before places like Wegmans and Tops had extensive bakery sections, if you wanted a nice torte (cake) you came to a bakery like this. They were good, but I really enjoyed their yellow smiley faced cookies. While not very difficult to make, I have never attempted it and rarely do I see them at other places. Then we moved away. Recently, though, we were in town for a wedding so I stopped by again. They didn't have the smiley cookies but they had similar orange turkey shaped cookies (for Thanksgiving), and I bought one. It tasted just like I remembered. We also bought a molasses cookie with raspberry jelly on top which was an unusual combination that didn't really work- the jelly was great but the molasses cookie was a bit weak in flavor. I tried their fruit/nut cookie which was good. Lastly, we had a cannoli which featured a nice, bright lemon filling. Yum. Sadly, we are never in town much anymore but supporting a small, local bakery is important to me. Hopefully we can stop by again sometime. read more

Love love love! We came here on the recommendation of a friend to get some New Years Eve and New Years Day desserts! They are currently only letting in 4 people at a time as covid restrictions which I appreciated! It wasn't busy at all, and we got in straight away. The staff here is very attentive and helpful. We asked a lot of questions about the treats and they were happy to answer them. We picked out a carrot cake and some Neapolitans to try and we absolutely loved them! The carrot cake was so moist and soft and the cream cheese frosting was just to die for! My family loved the neapolitans as well. I went to Jackson's to buy a carrot cake for my coworker's birthday. Carrot cake happens to be his favorite, and I personally love the carrot cake from Jackson's, so I made the trip across town to give him a special birthday surprise. At the bakery, I asked the staff to write "Happy Birthday Curt" on the cake. They showed it to me from a distance and I said it was fine. I'm so impressed after my first trip to Jackson's. It's 30 minutes away, but I won't hesitate to go right back. The first thing I noticed is how friendly the employee was. She immediately greeted us and didn't seem bothered by my many questions about the items in the case. I notice a lot of employees are stuffy at the bakeries I've been to recently, but not here. I also noticed that employees rushed up from working in the back as more people came in after us and everyone was greeted similarly. We ended up with a fudgey chocolate cake bar (I made up that name) that is similar to a gourmet HoHo. It was delicious, and I'm glad I bought 2. We also got an eclair that was so fresh and tasty. They had frosted turnovers. (iced?) I didn't even know that I liked turnovers or that they ever had frosting. This cherry turnover was so flaky and crispy, I believe it changed my life. The last thing we got was a giant Neapolitan cake. I guess it was only a 1/8 of a sheet cake size but for 1 person it looks giant lol. I don't really like the flavor of Neapolitan that much but it was so darn pretty I just had to buy it. Those 5 items came to $18, and that seemed like a bargain. The only thing I would change is possibly putting labels on the shelves so I know what I'm looking at. It is with a sad heart that I have to write a negative review about Jackson's Bakery. I have been a customer of Jackson's for over 20 years. I have tried, at one time or another, pretty much everything they make. So, what's the sad part? Their baked goods just aren't the same and just aren't very good anymore. I got a coconut cake yesterday, because I was in the area. This is a cake I have had countless times, as it was one of my favorite items. But, this cake? YUCK! It doesn't even sell like a cake. And, it has a very nasty aftertaste. The texture even seems a little different. I can't say for sure, but my guess would be this isn't even made from scratch, but rather a mix. I started noticing the bakery changing a couple years ago---for instance, the Radio Bar was suddenly half the size it used to be, for the same price (or more). Other items seem to have changed, as well. I understand that businesses have been having a hard time and sometimes their decision is to cut corners. I feel that is always the wrong decision, in my opinion. Because when the quality starts going downhill, but the prices remain the same or increase, that is a recipe for failure (pun not intended). I just learned that the bakery changed hands a year ago. That could be the problem, or at least, part of it. I was told they still use the same recipes, but I highly doubt that, from the taste of the cake. My friend, who was with me, bought six different items. She called today to tell me that none of them were very good. It's just too bad. Jackson's used to be one of the best bakeries in Rochester. Not anymore. So, if you're looking for a good bakery, look elsewhere. I would highly recommend the Savoia. read more

Stepping into the Bakery in between running errands, it's a small shop, almost hidden if you don't pay attention - which makes it quite the gem. It has an open walkway which houses three displays of baked goods. Your mouth starts to water right away. The cookie was good. The aroma was fresh, it had a pretty good chocolate chip ratio, was a decent sized cookie for the prize and overall had a good texture. The bite was slightly stiff around the edges but nothing too noticeable. I'd give the cookie a 4/5 but overall the Bakery itself gets a 5. I wouldn't mind coming in here to get cakes, canolis or anything else that gets your taste buds salivating. Highly recommend this Bakery to anyone in the area. read more

I've been going here every time I visit Rochester for the past 39 years (I ate there as a child 40yrs ago it was great then too)....... I must admit I really didn't want to post this! I found this place quite by accident. I was looking for a nice German Chocolate Cake. I had been to other establishments in Rochester and what they wanted to charge was enough to make me want to bake the cake myself. So on a whim I turned into the lot on my way to my son's school. I inquired about the cake and they said that they could make it. The price I was quoted almost made me order two! For one fifth the price of their competitor I was able to get the cake, not expecting it to taste at all like the European baked goods store; or to have that flair of design like the big "W" I was just happy to get it at a great price and I was determined to make my taste buds like it no matter what. To my great surprise the cake was delicious, moist, pleasing to the eye as well as my palate. I went back thinking that my first taste was just a fluke, and I was blown away by the cookies, cupcakes, coffee cakes and danishes. Here is why I didn't want to share this post, the cookies are sold out so fast that if you are not there by noon you will miss the more popular ones.
