I stopped in here on a whim while in the area and consider this a hidden gem. I elected to sit at the bar since it was a Friday afternoon and the service was solid. The interior of the pub was actually much nicer than I expected but still had the homey neighborhood bar feel. Next up the food: Amazing! I chose the boneless wings which had a terrific breading that I've only encountered at a few other restaurants. Definitely an A++. I went with the "Pub Sauce" which was equally excellent. Finally, you top it all off with $5 cocktails!? I wish this place was closer to me, but I will definitely be taking another detour here in the future. read more

I've never written a bad review but after tonight's experience felt I had to. We have eaten here several times and always had great food. Ordered the breaded tenderloin sandwich. My guests got their food and the server informed me they were ready-making my tenderloin because it was burnt. Second tenderloin came out. Tenderloins are supposed to be pounded thin. This was about 1/2" thick. Most of the breading had fallen off and meat was pink in the middle. I informed our server I was not satisfied. She was very understanding and said she would take it off our bill. She asked if I wanted something else so I ordered a cheeseburger. After about 25 minutes, still no cheeseburger. I finally asked for the check without eating. I have absolutely no complaint with our server. She was friendly and helpful throughout the entire experience. She explained that there was a new cook in the kitchen which I understand but they probably need to have better training or better supervision of what comes out of the kitchen. We had previously stopped to grab a bite to eat as a family passing through and had a great experience. However this time we were rudely told to leave because our 19yr old son didn't have his ID to show his age. He was not attempting to consume any type of alcoholic beverages, we had stopped to grab a bite to eat. We were told he could be there with us if he could prove he is 18 or older......however that does not seem to correlate to the law as I understand it and I don't know why we were treated so rudely and told to leave. We did not attempt to sit at the bar and grabbed an open table in the dining area with a view of the TV. What are we missing here?? read more

Went in on a Wednesday night around 6. It's open seating. So, the four of us went to the back and sat at a table for 8. No of those looks from anyone for doing that. I'll admit the waitress was there within a few minute to take our drink orders. I also ordered pretzel bites as appetizer. The drinks came right out. Now keep in mind they had a full house. So that was impressive. And anytime our drinks ran low, we were asked if we wanted another. She kept our drinks going. Good job. If you are looking for a diverse menu, you won't find it here. But what they do have, they do it well. Keep in mind it is a Pub. I ordered their Jackson St Burger Medium rare with fries. One ordered a Mushroom burger with nothing else on it and didn't get any odd looks. And, a couple other dishes as well. If you sit in the back you can see right into the kitchen. I don't think they are afraid of you seeing what there doing back there. The meal came in less than 10 minutes. Pretty good for a full house. The hand pressed burgers were cooed fine. And they tasted very good. We finished our meals and sat and talked for a while. We weren't rushed and felt very welcome. Nice place to spend an evening. read more

A classic brick walled bar, with ample TV's to scratch your sports-itch. The menu has standard pub fare, but where it stands apart are the healthy options scattered throughout. Kale crunch salad was the the SO's choice and it was fresh and crisp with generous mix-ins of cranberries, seeds, brussels sprouts and more- An order of wings in the (spicy) buffalo sauce made the tasty drinks go down easy. Open on Sunday and hard to believe there's a place like this in this little town. But, as you're passing through to somewhere else you must stop in for an appetizer and a drink. Being Brookston locals, we were so excited to see a new restaurant in town! As an added bonus, Jackson St is a non smoking establishment. A favorite of our crew is the bologna sandwich for an entree and the crab rangoon for an appetizer. But honestly, I've had the burger, fish, wings, and salads and all of it has been great. Despite aspirational prices for a small Midwest town, Jackson Street has quickly become my favorite Brookston eating spot. Friendly staff, great atmosphere combining a vintage destressed barn and downtown LA hipster joint, and straitforward menu of quality picks makes for an excellent dining experience. I first go to give a huge shout out to whomever decided to put a kale salad as a side option. That's a modern move and shows this place is in touch with the times and knows how to put together taste and nutrition. And it sure was tasty! My sister and I tried the two burgers and crab rangoon. I like to think I'm a connoisseur of both and can gladly recommend all to any wanting to savour a properly put together burger or rangoon. I noticed the buns where far above the trash white wheat many a private restaurant ends up with. The crab rangoon claimed handmade and also felt it'd been given a special touch. There is limited parking but a little walk from down the street in middle America is well worth the trip. read more

Great local pub in Brookston, IN - got to experience while visiting my bro for lunch! Exposed brick walls and vintage decor gave an urban barnyard ambiance (in a good way). It looked to be filled with lunchtime locals, some with impressive beards. TVs scattered around and late hours suggested they support sports fans. The staff was friendly/polite. It looked as if there were only 2 ladies covering the floor & bar. We ordered the Crab Rangoon & Burgers. Crab Rangoon (pictured) wasn't the typical, Asian crust - but the filling was similar. It was delivered quickly. The kale side salad looked yummy. The burgers were solid too. read more

Visited this pub for the first time on 04/13/18 and the food was fantastic! Definitely a pub atmosphere and truly a great place to go in this small town. It was a Friday night and fairly busy. The only downside is the server had a lot of tables to manage and we had to flag her down for drink refills. I would definitely visit again :-) read more

Out on an errand from Illinois, on the advice of a local, we decided to dine in Brookston instead of driving to the Farmhouse at Fair Oaks Dairy. I have to say I was very impressed with the decor, the food and the prices. The Cheddar Curds were actually better than the Farmhouse -- warm and gooey. The Fish and Chips were breaded and fried to perfection, the fries - both waffle and regular -- were crispy, the filet mignon was fabulous and super-tender, and the added mushroom side was over-the-top flavorful. The only thing I would skip would be the add-on Shrimp Skewer -- bland and overdone. Here's where I'm conflicted -- the service was horrendous. It took nearly 15 minutes to get our drink order in (and the place was not that busy). Once our food order was in, everything went a bit smoother, but my salad that was to come with the filet was never delivered. Instead of taking it with me, I asked for a discount on the bill. After asking twice, I never received a discount for the item I never received. Getting checked out was also a wait - it took over 10 minutes for them to come pick up the plates once we were done eating and nearly another 10 to get the bill. I saw at least two customers go to the bar to get drink refills because they could not get service at their tables. I will go back, but next time I won't put up with this kind of service. Just stopped in for BBQ ribs. Very tender and the price is right. The only reason I would not get them again is that they put a lot of chili powder on them....chili powder!?! What happened to sweet and tangy?? I have never had BBQ ribs loaded with chili powder. Not a fan. read more

Great service and food was amazing, we had a variety at our table chicken, steak, salmon, salads and potatoes everything was great!! 4 stars instead of 5 because of lack of seating on a busy Friday night and you have to just hang out and hope people leave as many stay for hours so you aren't guaranteed to get a table. Also the Bloody Mary was TERRIBLE watered down tomato juice and vodka. No flavor. Other than that everything was good. read more

This is a great new edition to Brookston. We have been there twice...once to watch a game and the other for dinner. The menu is perfectly suited to share appetizers and drinks with a group. If you're looking for a casual night out...the menu is also great. This would not be the restaurant I would choose to celebrate something important. The menu is small and the waitstaff is not the best. I will be coming back because the atmosphere is cool and the drinks are great. read more
