Modoc had just performed her last show for the American Circus, when she escaped. The inside of the market is homey with lots of space to work, read or enjoy a chat with a friend. I ordered a smoothie. The clerk told me which smoothies were made from fresh fruit, so I ordered the blackberry smoothie, which came with whipped topping. They also serve coffee and pastries. I shopped around the market and read Modoc's story as I waited for my smoothie. The market sells their own coffee blend. A children's play area with books is available to keep the kids entertained for a bit. My smoothie took about five minutes to prepare and was fabulous...creamy and fruity. If I lived closer, I stop by everyday to try all the flavors. Modoc's is worth a visit. There is limited street parking.

It still feels like playing roulette everywhere I go, so I prefer to make my own at home. I just cannot do caffeine. I mostly go to shops like this to feel like a human out doing something. The coffee tastes good, but 'm docking a star because even as I type this after leaving, I can feel the not fun effects of caffeine. It can be hit or miss with consistency of what constitutes a large and how milky your drink is, the prices seem to vary from visit to visit, and I often don't recognize the employees. High turnover? There is no public restroom which can be an issue whilst consuming beverages. Aroma also charges a fee if you pay with plastic, so I try to carry cash. I recall being charged for a cup of ice for my herbal tea in the past. Sometimes the tables aren't so clean and the baked goods case can have flies in it. It's looked better this summer. The wooden chairs can be wobbly. Overall it has decent atmosphere. It smells good like caramel when you walk in. There are two metal tables with cafe chairs as well as a bench outside, weather permitting. Rat Pack & classical outside. When music is on inside it's a different genre. The hours can be funky especially in winter or even be unexpectedly closed, but they are never open past 5 PM. Peru rolls the sidewalks up pretty early. I do like that they offer plant milk and have decaf without a weird lecture like the place around the corner... They usually have soy and almond. No coconut, but I usually go with soy lately anyway. Raw sugar, stevia for Lydia, and at least one decaffeinated tea. The baristas I've had recently were pretty pleasant. They have an array of baked goods including bagels and some other food and drink things in a refrigerated case. I've not ever tried the food myself though it looks good. I'm assuming it's local artwork which I've seen for sale on the walls along with handmade jewelry, mugs. They have a sandwich board for a donation program where you can buy a coffee for someone in need. Aroma has loyalty punch cards as well. You can enter the bakery next door through an adjoining door. Walking past I saw the case next door had cupcakes and heard a cake order being taken. So, while Aroma has flaws and I've been to better in other towns, the prices are pretty reasonable for this century and the atmosphere is alright. Cozy and on the Bohemian side. I don't go running there with excitement, but it's alright to sit and chat, especially when it's not crowded, which it often isn't. I like the downtown location.

There were only 12-14 people in the whole place, which seemed strange for a Saturday evening. It took a while, but the waiter finally came over. I was asking about a couple things on the menu, but they were out of most everything. So... Chicken quesadillas was the special. I was hungry, so I settled with those. I also ordered the moon balls, which they highly advertise, and they were out of those as well. I ordered a two hearted ale by bells. He brought the wrong beer. No biggie. I like the other one also. I didn't even say anything. While my food was being cooked, the bartender came around and brought another patron. The patron had a baby in her arms. They ask if they could see Merlin. He's a very quiet dog, but when he meets someone new, he let out a single bark. Then, he seen the baby and let out another bark. He loves babies. I noticed other people, in the bar, said, "Awe"! After they played with Merlin for a little bit, he returned to the table. My food came out shortly after and I started eating. Then... The owner comes out. She said I'm going to have to leave because it's unsanitary to have a dog in there. I explained nicely to her that he was a service animal and that I had a disability he helps me with. She asked me what the disability was. I explained to her that the HIPAA protects me from disclosing my medical information. She said it didn't matter. It was unsanitary and he was disruptive. I explained to her that her own bartender asked to see Merlin. He wasn't aggressive. He was just excited to meet someone. Then, he seen the baby. She didn't care. Told me I needed to leave. I asked her about the food and she said she would wrap it up for me. I asked her if I had to pay for it then. She said yes. I very calmly told her that she needs to Google a service animal. He is more than allowed by law, to be in a restaurant. He's not allowed in the kitchen or where they store food. I told her I would gladly finish my meal, pay for it and then leave. I gave her a chance to go check the law, but instead, she called the law. I was outside, taking a video of another patron who had left. I had forgot the bartenders name, so I tried to open the door and ask. By the way... Merlin was not with me at that time. I went back without him. The door was locked. I finished the video with the other patron and started to leave. Obviously, I was outside on the sidewalk because she had locked the door. As I turn to leave, I heard someone say, "excuse me, sir". I turned around and it was a police officer. He told me the owner didn't want me at the establishment and that I needed to go away for today. Not forever. Just for the day. I gave him a brief synopsis, and four more police officers showed up. I mean... They came in at a high rate of speed, lights, flashing, and all jumped out of their vehicles. It was terrifying. I guess the police here don't even know about service animals and persons with disabilities rights. I explained to him that I was leaving anyway. He called me back. I mean... If you see a person walking away, and your goal is to get them to leave, isn't it over? It's happened to me a couple times. People don't understand how the law works, regarding a service animal. She repeatedly used the word, "unsanitary". I will be filing a discrimination lawsuit. It was ridiculous. I gave her a chance to google the law. I also remained very calm throughout the conversation. If there is a local Attorney, who would like to help with this case, please comment. I do have a video statement, from the other patron, saying that he was not disruptive.
