Old fashioned atmosphere in a small antique downtown shop, super friendly service, enjoyable seasonal menu, plenty of foods and drinks, an egg nog latte caught my eye as well the nearly eight dollars dropped for it! Quite crazy to price a small town caffeine cozy like a Nashville barista, I didn't see any handcrafted ingredients either to work with that price, basic diabetes highway pumped into sugar coated plastic. Also surprising there was no glassware for dining in to help reduce landfills, another odd clash with the big cash cost here. My eggnog latte was tasty and very easy to drink but not a refined brew or a balanced beverage. Aroma could be fine for twice a year treats however there are much better options between me and Fort Wayne like Cosmo in Flora and Black Dog in Logansport.

I wanted a jelly donut but instead got a squirt of jelly filled. I wont be back, i don't support people who only want to rip off the public. This is disappointing and the owner should be embarrassed.

While passing through Peru, I decided to give Aroma Coffee a try since it was getting such high ratings. The staff was friendly and the selection was good, but other than that, the place wasn't anything special. First, the space is small. The owners have the coffee shop on the left, a cake shop on the right, and a donut/bakery in the back. The space behind the counter is stuffed with supplies and the doorway between the bakery in the back is open, so it looks a bit industrial (not in a good way.) The dining/seating area is really small, so it could get full quickly. It just doesn't feel like the kind of coffee shop where you might bring your laptop and work for awhile like most of the new coffee shops in more metro areas provide. Maybe the owner doesn't care for that atmosphere, but visitors from out of town might. They do sell baked goods from the other business which offers a nice selection. The other missed mark for me was that the coffee was piping hot. I could barely hold the coffee even with the paper sleeve provided. Too hot to drink without scalding my palate. It wasn't burned, but without adding cream to cool it, it was just too hot to enjoy until later. Review #3070

I got an iced almond milk mocha, it had no coffee taste whatsoever. When she handed it to me it was so white I thought she forgot to put the coffee in.

Great variety of coffee and amazing prices. Not only do they have coffee, but fresh donuts as well! Worth the trip to downtown Peru.

Nearly three years later, I hoped a second try would go better. Nope. It was worse…read more It's a snowy day. I noticed there was a lack of floor mats at the entrance, meaning none, so I took my time standing on the one (only one) toward the center of the small front space as to not add to the mess of tracks on their nice floor. The counter and walls were less cluttered than before. There were two large brown menu boards on the wall behind the counter which were easy to read. Pre-printed and not handwritten with chalk. I greeted the woman who came out from the back. I waited, but she never said "hello" or offered any assistance. She initially didn't return any eye contact. I asked for a medium (16 oz) decaf with coconut milk with a "please." I was in an especially chipper mood. The woman finally spoke to ask if the woman behind me and I were on the same bill as she wrote on a pad. I told her we were separate. She gave me a total of $5.75, I believe it was. That gave me pause, so I asked about it. A medium cup of coffee was clearly $1.25 on the wall with a 50¢ upcharge for plant milk. "Oh, you just wanted a cup of coffee?" or something to that effect. She looked around and said I'd have to get a K-Cup and motioned to a bin which I thought were for purchase for home use. I said "No, nevermind" and proceeded to leave. The woman said something else where I responded it was too expensive. "No, the K-Cup is..." $1.75 I think she said. I replied I didn't want a K-Cup and left. The lack of greeting already had me instinctually not wanting to stay, but I thought I'd give her a chance, and it just kept spiraling into worse service. It's just absolutely perplexing. I know this is the same woman I encountered before. As stated in my first review, she was argumentative with everyone in line that day, not just myself, about what we wanted to order. Today, yet again, she was confusing and insisting it had to be done another way. I simply wanted a cup of decaf and specified the type of milk. Last time, I was forced to get a latte which cost much more than what I actually wanted - which was just a cup of decaf on ice... Truly a baffling experience, and I wasn't willing to just go along with this nonsense again. I hoped my first experience was a one-off bad day or that she wouldn't be working there anymore. Word of mouth recently told me a man owns 6th Street Coffee Company. It's small and not really set up to sit and hang out, but I wanted to give it another try. They're not open late just like most Peru businesses but were open today unlike the competition around the corner and some other shops. After some searching, I found a really good cup of coffee with refills and poured with smiles elsewhere in town. I wouldn't come back to 6th Street if it were free at this point. I'm really not sure how they're still around. I'll go where I'm appreciated and receive what I ordered for the advertised price. A greeting, a smile, and words of thanks are basics which go a long way.

I'd heard of this place through an acquaintance and her posts online even when it had a different owner and another name but was also a "nutrition" shop. Most seem to take things to-go here. There are some stools where you can sit at a "bar," but it's lacking in ambience and decor. Unfinished might be the right word. The turquoise stools with backs are the most comfortable but aren't always available. Those are more functional and cuter than the backless black stools which don't match. It's not much of a hangout but has potential. I made more than several regular visits here. Jenny was particularly friendly. My stamp card is almost full. I'm disappointed though because I explained my dietary needs more than once and didn't realize until I bought a product for home use that I was consuming things that I not only don't want to ingest but also give me health issues. While I was able to bring it in for a refund from the individual person whom sold it to me, (Kayla?) I had to go through that particular lady. She was more apologetic and sympathetic than the owner. The lemonade mix contained gelatin, dairy, and was labeled bio engineerd. The girls had done a good job steering me away from caffeine, but these other ingredients were bothersome. The aloe "shots" which were the only vegan item at the time, it turned out, also contain artificial sweetener, the same chemical in Splenda. While I had fun here for a while, enjoyed the drinks, and the proprietor said they expected to get vegan items in around Saint Paddy's Day, I'm not too thrilled about returning anytime soon if ever now. I could get past the drinks not being consistently made depending on who was available. Ingredients were also sometimes out, such as the graham cracker stuff that goes in the bottom of the blueberry cheesecake protein shake, which was my favorite along with the berry lemonade, and mango aloe. I can't get past not properly being informed of what the drinks contained. Considering the pretty high prices, I didn't feel valued in the end after all my visits. While I have no issues with multilevel marketing per se, it has a bit of a shady feeling as to how it's not really openly talked about here. I'd found out it was an Herbalife MLM online. It's also why I had to deal with an individual for my home product refund. The owner was going to take my bag and leave it for that person with a note, but I chose to take it with me and return another day because it felt odd. The interaction lacked any customer care. This is yet another business in downtown Peru which sells beverages but offers no public restroom to customers. This and the early closing hours of this business like many others nearby is odd to me still. I'd also asked if it was okay to leave some of my business cards on one of my last visits and was told it was absolutely fine. The next time I was in, they were all tossed out and no longer next to all the others. I'm not sure if it was someone at the business or a competitor. I didn't even ask at that point after my discovery about the ingredients when I bought that lemonade and saw the label at home before I opened it because I'd become uncomfortable being there. Lesson learned on asking to see labels and not just ask, to be more informed on what is in consumables. This review would have had quite a different outcome and amount of stars back in the beginning. I'm not sure how nutritional this all was in the end. Again, lesson learned. I just wanted to support what I thought was a fun local business and regretted this one. The shop also has protein balls and fitness classes, neither of which I tried myself.
