My favorite coffee shop I've ever been to by far. The baristas are so kind and know their stuff too. The seating and atmosphere is great, never too crowded. Their menu is perfect not too complex but enough drinks to get what you would want. They also spend lots of time and effort into making every drink perfect. Far worse experience than my first time here. The staff wasn't welcoming or friendly or knowledgeable. A coffee shop without any specialty lattes? (Maybe don't be open as a coffee shop then). The 1 star is for the size of the space and the atmosphere. When asked for the drinks to be served in ceramic cups and glass cups, the staff refused! The house favorite iced latte was terrible beyond measure. The caramel latte was bitter to the taste and was corrected after adding 4 more pumps (Is a good caramel latte that hard to make?). Overall, one of the worst local coffee shop experiences. Don't recommend this place. read more

After a long drive from south of Indy up to Marion, I decided to refuel with a cup of coffee and something to eat. I saw the great reviews here on Yelp and decided to stop by. The Abbey is in a strip mall that all strip malls should aspire to! Not only was the place well maintained, but there was also a common room that allowed for overflow seating for the Abbey, plus a stage and extra restrooms for holding events. Inside the Abbey, there are high ceilings and the wall on the left is filled with art work. The wall on the right is a glass wall that overlooks that common event area. The order counter is at the back of the business which lets you walk passed the different seating options of tables and comfy spots. Note that plug in stations are along the walls if you need those. (Didn't see anything for the middle tables.) I ordered a tasty and ready to drink drip coffee and selected a biscuit (cream cheese, cheddar & chive) that was also really good. For the coffee, they offered a paper or ceramic cup option (less waste). All the staff were friendly and the place was somewhat quiet even though there was a decent sized crowd. I was disappointed that there weren't more options for things to eat (especially since the neighboring restaurants don't offer breakfast choices that I could see.) This is our first time here, traveling through Marion so we picked up two of the recommended Cafe Miels with almond milk (1% milk or almond milk were our choices). Interesting but not my fave drink although I believe they made it just fine. (Cafe Miel: coffee with honey and cinnamon,I think. ) My husband liked it better than I. It's in a small strip mall right on highway 9 with lots of parking. The shop is even cooler than I expected with interior garage type doors open to the nice bookstore and the church sanctuary on either sides. With the upstairs loft and outside seating with firepit they've created an inviting space where I wanted to linger. We'll definitely stop on our next trip through. read more

I wish I could visit this location more often, although it's a bit of a drive for me it would be well worth it! My husband and I stopped in here on a Saturday night, it was dead because IWU had just had a game. So that was a bonus for us! We spoke with the barista, took our time ordering, and then got our choice of seating because the place was pretty much to ourselves. Abby is connected to a Christian bookstore and a large event space. It's a huge area! I also have a fire pit and outdoor seating. We tried a nitro cold brew and a latte, both were great! They roast their own coffee right there in the store, they have a small roaster out front behind the counter. read more

I traveled to Marion for the day for work and needed a caffeine fix before I settled in for my drive home. I love trying non-chain places so had to stop by this coffee house. Immediately after walking in, I loved the open modern feel with comfortable looking couches and tables. I decided on a vanilla latte and a lemon poppyseed scone. The coffee was fantastic! One of the best lattes I've had in a long time. The scone was still soft and delicious even though I ordered it mid afternoon. I love the feel of this place, music was great, and it was just a nice vibe hanging out for 20 minutes before heading out. I'll definitely be back if I'm in the area! read more

I don't know how we've ended up here all the way from Indianapolis. Bored over the weekend and decided to visit Ivanhoe in Upland, IN as a sort of road-trip to find the best milkshake in the state. The interior is very clean and modern, definitely a nice place to relax and read a book, or do some work while you drink their spectacular coffee. Speaking of... We ordered iced lattes, and they were perhaps one of the best lattes I've ever had. I'm not sure what it was - maybe the unfound elsewhere creaminess of the milk they use, or the nuttiness of the espresso within. Either way, we were very pleasantly surprised. I feel like this place could give Sparrow Coffee a run for their money, and that's something I never thought I would say about another coffee shop. Very good. Delicious coffee, sparkling tea, cold brew on nitro, clean hip branding and all the roasting is done in house. There's an open loft with seating commonly used for small private events like art shows. A book store and larger venue space neighbor the shop on either side. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting with plenty of natural light. Be sure to make a stop. The atmosphere at The Abbey is incredible. Super modern and classy. They have a really neat upstairs area where you can read/study/sip coffee while overlooking the rest of things. In the summer they open up the front wall so that you can enjoy the weather from inside. The fire fit out front is a cozy touch that people really enjoy. The Abbey is also connected to a book store. Although the atmosphere is really fun, I just don't care for their drinks. The coffee has a very distinct flavor that I just can't get past. And as someone who cannot drink dairy or oat milk, I wish they had a coconut milk substitute. I have heard really good things about their pastries. The only gluten free one that I can eat is the granola bar, which is phenomenal. Overall, The Abbey is worth the visit. read more

This is a very neat spot! Definitely my new favorite as far as local coffee shops go! I have been two times, and in both experiences the coffee was excellent. I had a medium roast pour over and the next time I had a decaf Americano. They were both very rich and smooth. No bitter aftertaste. No coffee sludge like I have had elsewhere. The baristas were very accommodating and friendly. The atmosphere was very neat. Fairly quiet. Relaxed atmosphere. I went on a Saturday with my little sister and we were able to sit outside on a couch next to the fire and enjoy the atmosphere. So overall: super neat! I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Another little gem in Marion. Great coffee and a really great vibe. I was there early morning so it wasn't busy at all. The interior space probably sears 30-40 and it is next to an overflow space for even more seating next door. The reviews on Yelp made me think this was going to be a really cool coffee experience. I love coffee and new coffee shops. But I like them without bunches of the white fluff from the cottonwood trees floating in and on everything. Why was this happening? Because the garage type door was completely open with heat and allergy producing floaters free to invade. It was 85 degrees out. Coffee with plenty of heat and sneezes. Not even close to what the other reviewers promised. It's just some mediocre coffee next to a Christian book store that doesn't have enough sense to close the doors. Pretty icky. read more

This place is huge! So spacious! I never feel like I'm just another person to shove in a small space. The atmosphere is amazing and I've never seen a coffee shop with a lofted seating area and all the cool decorations. I had to take away a star, because their Coca-Cola machine was out of ice and well over half the drinks. :-( Other than that I love this place!!! I'm going back, today! Free wi-fi and space make it a great place to meet people to catch up so you can actually hear each other or for business meetings. Our PTO met here and it was awesome! read more

I love the open layout here. There are plenty of seats downstairs and I see there is seating upstairs too. I've always had great experiences with the baristas. They answer my questions on what is their favorite coffee. The other day I had a pour over. It was very fruity and different but I liked it. I'll definitely be back when I'm in Marion. Best coffee around. You've got to try the iced latte or the iced ginger plum tea. I love sitting upstairs to read or do some work.
