I gave them 4 stars only because it's a very simple looking place with somewhat limited parking and seating. The menu is very simple, and is made up of just good old home cooking. The portions are generous and the prices are modest. Service is excellent! Just a good little meat, taters, and gravy joint with eggs, bacon, sausage, and decent biscuits. Check out their menu, but a full order of sausage gravy with biscuits along with hash browns comes as a giant plate running over. Stopped in today at 1:40pm to grab late light lunch knowing it doesn't close until 2:00pm. After unloading my 2 yr old daughter and entering I was informed by staff that they were no longer taking orders because it was too close to closing. There was no notice posted outside. I've eaten here many times before and the food is okay. Not great but okay. It is irritating to enter a business that is open til a specific time but yet refuses service so they can leave by closing time. If you want to be gone by 2 you should only be open til 1:30 or whatever time allows for the clean up time. I have recommended this place before to folks but now I will be sharing this experience instead. The 3-4 star consideration I would have rated plunged to just one because this is a terrible practice. Came to Marion for a graduation at IWU today, 12/17. Arrived at 10 mins before noon for lunch, or had hoped. We were getting out of the car and the wait staff came out telling us that they were closed at noon. Seems odd for a place that doesn't advertise that the close at that time. After we were leaving the parking lot, a few more cars should up for the lunchtime disappointment. Won't go back and for the drive over there, quite the disappointment. read more

Husband went for breakfast (eggs, pots, sausage patties, & toast) and I had a pattie melt with french fried tator tots, all was cooked perfectly and arrived hot! Sid our waitress was super. Ninth street café is hard to find, but worth looking for. The Western Omelette was very flavorful, cooked just enough to blend the flavors, but not so much that they were indistinguishable. The toast was buttered perfection and even the hash browns showed a delicacy of taste that is unusual. The prices are reasonable. My only regret is that they don't have more omelette choices.
