And they only provide one small cornbread muffin, but it's very tastey. The pork chop was prepared well, but it's hard to remove gristly edges when it's all buried under the gravy. It could have been a better cut of meat, and that would have helped. There are certainly nicer porkchops available for purchase at Costco (and even HEB) if they want to upgrade the quality of ingredients. There are limited beverage options. They were out of coffee so I had unsweet tea, which was nice. The staff seemed to have something unusual going on. Maybe someone hadn't shown up for their shift or maybe they were training someone. But from greeting to seating to taking my order to checkout, it was just awkward. I don't expect it's normally that way. Lunch special was $12.99. Other meals were in the $20+ range. White meat chicken isn't available on the lunch menu, only dark. But even on the regular menu, it's dark meat only unless you pay a $4.95 upgrade. So basically, this creates a large (2X) price between different variations on a fried chicken meal, which fine, I guess, but for me, it's a strange pricing strategy that I haven't seen anywhere else. But mostly, to me, it feels like I'm eating in a city rec center with a staff of community volunteers. Friendly enough, and tasty enough, but not quite restauranty enough. I haven't given up on it, but I'm not quite sold yet. Wishing them well. I like having a soul food restaurant in town.

He takes your order, and when he's free'd up he walks around the dinning room and introduces himself to everyone. Generally and heartfelt with your experience with his food and dining experience. I've come here a few times, and it's 100% consistency with service, care, food, cleanliness, and it's not easy, this place is always packed, always a dining room full of people, friends, family, just an amazing vibe here. I take my out of town friends here every time they come to visit. Normally I get the catfish, cause I love it so much, and I just crave it when I come, but this time I forced myself to try something new. Let me tell you it didn't disappoint. Their wings are outstanding too! Perfectly seasoned. Hot fresh, seasoned like an old family secret recipe. I also got 2 sides with the 3 piece chicken wing order. So I got Mac & cheese, of course. It's so rich and creamy, really one of the top 2 best Mac & cheese I've ever had. My second side I got was their yams. I can't explain it, but it just smells like Christmas and tastes like Christmas. They're a food group on their own. You have to, no you MUST get their yams. They're just epic. I'm already thinking about my next visit to Whip My Soul.

Our waitress was so sweet and made sure to check on us while managing the front register as well. Shout out to her for working double and I loved her hair (lol side note).
