I recently ordered from Burnett's Food for the Soul and paid $52 for my meal. The food itself looked good, but I was disappointed that I couldn't see the menu beforehand. If I had known what was offered, I probably wouldn't have spent that much. The plate I received had oxtails, cabbage, and greens -- tasty but definitely overpriced compared to what I saw later. Another customer got two full plates for $35, and their portions were generous. That's a much better deal for the same type of food. The flavors were solid and the sides were well-seasoned, but the pricing felt inconsistent. First let me say this: the food is pricey, but you do get a lot of food. I had the fish and shrimp and they both were okay. I'd probably say they both needed a little more seasoning. The greens were okay, but needed more seasoning. The sweet potatoes were the same; they needed more seasoning. Now the dirty rice should be completely removed from the menu. I always like trying out new places especially when they are small hole in the wall kind of restaurants, and when you consider that having southern food as a lure, I am 100% down to try. Now that being said, unfortunately, this place was not for me. The pictures of the food on their adverts did not match the quality nor how the actual food even looked (and I think a lot of the pictures are not even food from the restaurant). The prices are way too high for what you get (comparing to other restaurants in general). I received the fries along with the wings. The service was great. The place is small so consider that when going. The food is cooked to order for the most part. When we entered the restaurant had a couple others waiting for their orders, we sat and looked at the menu which is on Google Drive, while doing that the aromas and his conversation with one of the other customers hyping the food were reassuring to us skeptics but sadly misleading. Ordered the 3 wings & tenders and 3 catfish and fries which totaled $47.50 needless to they are severely overpriced, pics coming to show why. For the price I expected whole wings instead we got wingettes, canned yams and mediocre Mac & cheese. The fish also small pieces, overcooked and lacked flavor accompanied by unseasoned fries. Found this restaurant almost by accident because it was in the neighborhood. Ordered the pork chop dinner with collard greens and cabbage on the side and peach cobbler for dessert. Everything was delicious but the pork chops and cobbler were clearly the BEST I've ever had of each one. My staff and I were told about this little out of the way soul food spot from the staff at the Plantation house so we came to try it. You'd never know this was what people thought of this place! I'm shocked. They were so nice, the staff gave us recommendations of things to do in the area. Conversation was polite. Now the food.. the food was nice. I personally came for the catfish and it didn't disappoint. The fries I had to ask to be hardfried because they're a little lite for me.
