The restroom looked neglected, and the sink was partially detached from the wall. When customers see maintenance issues that obvious, it raises questions about the overall upkeep of the restaurant. How this place is in business is beyond me. Walked in and my 8yo daughter begged to leave saying how bad it smelled. We continued in, ignoring the dust and sat down at a booth. Our server was sweet, she was happy to help and attentive. After ordering my daughter had to use the bathroom, "OH MY HEAVENS, what is that smell?" She said. Yall the bathroom, it is SO bad, the sewage smell is unbearable. We had to leave without using the bathroom and didn't even wash our hands as we felt we would get dirtier somehow. My daughter said they should use an air fresher, I said honey I saw one, she said well then they need 10. I don't know that 10 would help, there is for sure something wrong with that plumbing, that was not normal. I was so grossed out I wasn't sure I could eat. After you pull into the steep and potholed gravel parking lot, you can step back in time to a building filled with old relics which adds to the charm. I did read through several reviews before coming here, but nobody mentioned that they have absolutely no craft beer or wine, just the usual domestic offerings. Not even Shiner! We started with the sampler platter appetizer which was underwhelming and small. The hush puppies were clearly previously frozen out of a bag and of ver poor quality, skip those nasty nuggets. After 5 PM, you can get the baked potato, but I would definitely skip their salad out of the bag. For the main course, I got shrimp and fish and the wife got hers baked not fried. The beans and slaw were ....meh, fries were ok. I hate to say it, but there's a lot of yelpers slapping down five stars on what is just 2 to 3 star grub. Part of the ambience here is dining on styrofoam plates and cups with a roll of paper towels at the ready. The service was friendly and attentive. The catfish actually wasn't too bad and it was the highlight of the meal, which isn't saying much. For the money, this place is a pass for us. So if you're looking to sit down to some great quality seafood, I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you have little to no expectations and like the vibe, this place is for you. And if this place is for you, they do have some dining areas set aside for private parties, although you may wish to avoid using the bathrooms, especially the women's. Decide to stop in and do a takeout order after work. Put my order in and waited 20 minutes for it to finish. Took three people to take the order and to bring it to me. When I got home, I realized they overcharged me by three dollars on my meal. I called them and asked them what this was about and they said it's a takeout fee. So basically you drive there use your own gas your own vehicle and you put the order in and then you wait to take it home with you and there's no table service and they still hit you with a three dollar fee. This visit had a family of 7 with the parents and children aging from infant , toddler , 5, 7,8. The parents just let the 3 older kids loose at the buffet. The dad fixed his plate then told the kids "it's a buffet get what you want" I couldn't believe it. They were too small to reach up and get items so they were reaching as far as they could to get food. Dragging their arms across and scooping up what they could. There was Mac and cheese in the potatoes, potatoes in the gravy etc.. the parents weren't paying any attention , too ignorant to care. Management really needs to put signs up that kids under 12 need to be assisted by parents and hold them accountable. No hidden fees please! I have ordered take out from this restaurant a couple times. Both times I ordered a 3 piece catfish with fries. The wait was fairly average, about 20 mins. The fries were cold BOTH times. I thought it was a fluke the first time but when I received the order the second time, it was the same. They were skimpy with the tarter sauce. Given the size of the fillets one would assume you would ATLEAST get two sauces. Ultimately the food was decent however, what perturbed me was the "to go charge" that is not openly communicated. I noticed it in the difference in price when I checked out. The first time I did the math in my head and realized I couldn't have gotten to that amount unless the actual price of the dish was incorrect. NOPE, when I ordered the second time and received the check, I asked why there was a price difference. The young girl didn't know so I asked her if there is a charge for "to go" orders. She eventually said yes. I was diligent in looking all over the menu, at the "to go" order station, web site and anywhere else it could be posted but nothing. With the cost of things rising, not cool to not be upfront about there being additional charges, for water, to go, sauces, anything! Not sure I will return, and if so, definitely not for "to go"! They've got all the foods associated with the south like fried catfish, hush puppies, boiled green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes, and even fried gizzards! Went here for lunch and WOW from 11am-2pm they've buffet and it was really good. When you think buffet you usually think of meh food but everything that I ate at this buffet was on point. Went for lunch on 10/2/17 The place is set way back from the street and could be easy to miss. The inside is a little country and a little on the old side. I was seated quickly and a server came over in just a few minutes. I decided not to do the buffet because I really don't like to over eat if I can help it. I ordered the 2 piece Catfish plate. The fried catfish is awesome and they have chicken enchiladas. The delicious green beans are fresh made with diced onions and bacon. The ambitis very much a Texas restaurant with feed store signs, tablecloths with local businesses on them, etc. My girlfriend and I went there for dinner and she had the fried shrimp dinner and I had the catfish and shrimp dinner.
