It was ok. I wouldn't order it again.
Melissa S.

Today was a day to celebrate!! My girlfriend had the car for a few hours and she choose to pick me up and take me to lunch. What a treat. She has tons of friends so she could have easily chose another one, but today was my day. I chose Jack's Urban Eats as it's close to Capital Park and I could have walked there if I wanted to, but she offered a ride and it being 80 degrees out already I couldn't say no. Parking is a pain in downtown and especially near the restaurants. Luckily someone was pulling out in front and we snagged a spot. Unfortunately, it was still a paid spot and the downside was you have to use a app. That was a challenge. My husband has the app already on his phone and makes it look like a breeze. It's not. I miss when the side streets used to be free parking. I like eating at Jack's Urban Eats. They serve fresh, made to order salads. I almost ordered the blackened salmon cobb salad, but at last minute read the sign that said Chimichurri Steak Bowl next to their checkout counter. I went with the new offering as it hasn't been put on the menu yet. The Chimichurri Steak Bowl has the following in it: Chargrilled tri tip, arugula, cilantro lime rice, pickled onions, tomatoes, and sweet potato with fried shallots and chimichurri for $15.95. Two dollars cheaper then the Salmon salad I was looking at. The salad was ok, but I wouldn't order it again. First, I'm not a fan of arugula. It gets caught in my throat and makes me cough. It's also hard to eat as it's so long and pieces stick out of your mouth when you're trying to get a mouthful. It's just not a pretty sight. The cilantro lime rice was a really good touch. I enjoyed it so much more then the arugula. A bite of anything and the rice was tasty. The tomatoes were only a few, but they were really good. I don't recall any fried shallots on my dish or maybe those were the grilled onion looking things. I expected them to be fried like when you top the green bean casserole. The tri tip was ok. A bit on the tough side, it was hard to chew and got swallowed in one bite. Overall I'll order a different salad next time, probably the blackened salmon salad as that was my first choice. She also ordered some garlic fries that we shared. they were tasty, but limp. I'm not a fan of limp fries, I like mine crispy. I usually order crispy fries and they fry them twice or leave them in longer, I'm not sure what they do, but they come out crispy. Timing is everything. We arrived at 11am when they opened and got the last parking space available so we picked the right time to arrive. We were second in line when we arrived and ordered quickly and got our meals brough out to us on the patio. When we left at Noon there was a long line to order and lots of the tables were taken with people eating. They have a really nice patio to eat at, but by noon it's all in the sun. When we arrived we were partially shaded and it was pleasant, but by the time we left the sun had moved into my eyes. There were several other people enjoying the spring time weather we are having. I'll be back because I really like Jack's Urban Eats, but I will be ordering something different.

Kids Plate - Turkey with Mac and Cheese
Courtney O.

My husband was craving Jack's Urban Eats for dinner last night so we stopped in for take-out. It was pretty empty inside minus a couple of families, but the inside was nice, spacious and clean. We ordered a large Jack's Urban Fries with added Chicken Strips, the Kids Turkey and Mac and Cheese plate and the new seasonal Turkey Brie Sandwich. Jack's Urban Fries are honestly the reason why my husband craves going there and I agree with him - they are so simple, yet pack such flavor. I actually really enjoyed the Turkey Brie Sandwich, but there was a bit too much lettuce for my taste. My daughter liked her Kids Plate and the Mac and Cheese was nice and cheesy. Overall, Jack's Urban Eats can be pricy like most places nowadays, but it is a great choice for a healthy fast food option.

My friends were hyping up the steak salad at Jack Urban Eats so much that my friend and I haaaad to try it out ourselves and see what was up! We arrived around 6:20pm on a Wednesday night, sat down, and got our food within 10 minutes! I did the build your own salad and I got: mixed greens, roasted corn, cucumber, croutons, bleu cheese, oranges, and red onion with tri-tip and balsamic vinaigrette. I was craving a salad for a while and this definitely hit the spotttt! I was a bit iffy the first bite since i rarely get balsamic (i'm usually a ranch or caesar girlie) but it just got better and better and my friend and I both thoroughly enjoyed our salad!! Yay for trying something new and liking it :D

Had an amazing meal here the other day with a friend! I'd never eaten here before, but really enjoyed it! Great service and ambience! I'll definitely come back!

This location is all right. Parking can be a little tricky being that it's downtown. You should be able to find street parking, of course you have to pay for it at all times now. Maybe it's because of this location that it's tends to get busier. The service is decent enough and there's an available seating inside and outside. I do find this location a little bit smaller compared to the Loehmann's plaza one. Every time I've been here the food tasted good. You should definitely check out Jack's urban eats if you haven't already.

Great tasting food. Fast service. Staff are very nice. Comfortable atmosphere. Parking can be a bit of a challenge but worth the walk down the block. $$

For the umpteenth time my delivery order from Midtown was wrong! Tonight: not a single piece of orange on my Asian chicken salad. It is a main ingredient. Last time: salad double dressed at restraunt. Dressing has always been on side. Salad ruined and leaked in my car. Before that: ordered 2 sides. One came in normal container, which was sitting in the midst of my vegetables which were not in a container at all. Filthy! Time before that the wrong dinner was delivered and there is no one to contact! Tonight they did not answer the phone even tho they were open!!! They used to be good. I am trying to eat healthy but they are incompetent and don't care!!! And they are expensive, delivery especially so. BEWARE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.

Watered down Buffalo chicken saladsalad

Terrible customer service! The chick at the register looked us up and down when we asked a question about a sandwich. She never greeted us and acted like it was a bother. I ordered a Buffalo chicken salad, it tasted like wet lettuce and the dressing was watered down. I asked for a different salad dressing and the same chick at the register acted like it was a problem again. Never going back to this restaurant! Elk Grove Jacks Urban Eats has far better customer service and better tasting food

When I want something made and not prepared. Freshness is key and Jack's Urban Eats hit the spot, and my craving for properly made food. Service always follows with a smile and a thank you.

This location is in the heart of midtown and the perfect location for lunch in any given day. The food here is always fresh. Great variety salads and sandwiches. Food is made to order. My son loves the chicken tenders, my fiancée loves their salads and u love ordering their specialty sandwiches. Always a good time with awesome food here.

Banh Mi Sandwich - Better than expected. Not truly authentic but they tried and it was pretty tasty.
Corinna T.

Jack's is definitely a go to spot for me whether that be with family, friends, or coworkers. They have such a huge variety of options to please any palate. The location is just 5 minutes, walking distance, away from where I work downtown. It's convenient, they're always providing quick and efficient customer service, and their food seems to never disappoint - most of the time. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Half of that outdoor seating is under the shade too which is always a plus! Last week I came with a coworker when the summer weather was tolerable for a change. We sat where the sun beamed on us giving us that much needed warmth after being in a freezing office all morning. I ate the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side of urban fries (these are a must!). I will say the buffalo chicken sandwich was meh, I missed that crunchy exterior. If I have to wait 10 or so minutes for this sandwich my expectations better be met. I won't be getting this from here anytime soon. However, this week we went again and I tried their Banh Mi sandwich. This was much better than expected! Not truly an authentic Banh Mi but Jack's is trying and did their thing so I was pleased and would happily order again. This is coming from a gal who isn't a huge steak fan. I truly enjoyed how tender the steak was piled underneath crunchy carrots and daikon. These were a great contrast to each other smothered in the sriracha lime mayo. Yum!

Can get busy We had: Good Neighbor Chop Salad (5/5): This was what a composed salad should be. It ate like a real dish, not a side project. Creamy avocado, sweet dates, tangy goat cheese, and a pear vinaigrette brought everything together without drowning it. The cornbread croutons stole the show. Crisp, buttery, and loaded with flavor, they added the texture most salads are missing. The meat was cooked properly and gave that subtle reminder this place understands BBQ Steak Frites (5/5): Straightforward, done right. The hanger steak was cooked with precision, with a proper sear and clean beef flavor that didn't need to hide behind sauce. You could tell they respected the product. The peppercorn sauce supported without taking over, and the fries were crisp with just enough softness inside to keep things balanced. It was simple food executed at a high level, which is exactly why it worked

Every dish we ordered was flavorful and memorable, and the quality of the food was easily the highlight of the evening. That said, given the restaurant's reputation and price point, we expected a more elevated dining atmosphere. The seating consisted of simple bench-style arrangements that felt more casual than anticipated, and the smaller layout made the restaurant quite loud and crowded during peak hours. Since every table was full for the holiday, conversations carried easily throughout the space, and the lack of high-backed seating offered very little privacy between tables. We had also anticipated a slightly more upscale ambiance overall. My girlfriend and I dressed for what we expected would be a fine dining experience, but the atmosphere leaned much more casual, with many guests dressed in jeans and T-shirts. Of course, this is more of an observation than a criticism, but it did contribute to the experience feeling less refined than expected. In the end, the outstanding food ultimately made up for many of the atmosphere-related shortcomings. While the ambiance did not fully align with our expectations for such a highly rated restaurant, the quality of the cuisine absolutely stood out and is what we will remember most.

It felt like we're in some amusement park, 5 minutes later we got a text that we had a table ready for us. Inside the restaurant felt very cozy yet rowdy (in a good way). We ordered their Famous French Toast, Eggs Tower, Thai Steak & Eggs, and the Madame Cristo. Everything in our meal was delicious, and hit in all the right places. It's been years since I've been, mainly because of the long wait times and no reservations on weekends. As a planner, I gravitate toward places where I can make a reservation. However, it was a special occasion, so we committed to it on a holiday weekend. The wait was estimated at 1.5 hours for a party of 7, but it ended up being closer to 40 minutes, which honestly wasn't bad at all. The patio and waiting area are gorgeous and make the wait worth it on a beautiful day. Great shade from the trees, solid service, and a really nice ambiance overall. The menu is massive with a little bit of everything and huge portions, so it's quite hard to decide. I settled on the Madame Cristo because it sounded decadent and somewhere between lunch and breakfast, which felt perfect for brunch. And decadent it was. The cheesy ham and béchamel blended into this super rich, fatty bite balanced by the French toast it was sandwiched between. The eggs on top were almost overkill, but still a welcome addition for some protein. The chipotle raspberry jam was surprisingly good too, almost like a smoky raspberry salsa that added sweetness and helped cut through some of the richness. The potatoes were standard and nothing to write home about. It was definitely a lot, but pretty good and exactly what you expect from a brunch spot like this. I'm not going to say the food is mind-blowing, but it's solid and they have unique dishes, great vibes, and something for everyone to enjoy. Nice to see that Tower Cafe is still doing well after all these years and remains a great place to celebrate special occasions.

This is a funny place for me as I've been here more than a few times, yet I don't have a favorite beer or food item but not because I don't like the food or the beer but because the more things I try the more things I had to my favorites list at this incredible brewery. This particular visit was on a Tuesday and they have a great pint beer special on Mondays and Tuesdays with $5 select pints all day. On this day we decided to go with Weird is the new Normal-a West Coast IPA($5.00) & a Luna De Miel-a Mexican Amber($5.00). Both beers were very refreshing and went down super easy and I've added both to my "will order again " list. For food I ended up ordering Brisket Tacos ($14.00) off the appetizer list and a Pulled Pork Sandwich($17.00) off the sandwich list. I upgraded my fries to Garlic Fries for an additional fee-I think $1 but not sure as I was being treated that day. This is the kid of place where u walk up to counter and place an order for your beer and food then they give u a number and will bring your grub out to ya at whatever table u can find. They have both indoor and outside seating-I prefer outside seating this time of year. Food was delivered very fast-in under 10 minutes. Brisket Tacos were super simple but still wonderful -really soft tortilla with a nice chew and flavor topped with their famous juicy tender perfectly flavored brisket with onions and cilantro as a topper-they are excellent because of the quality of the brisket. 8.8/10 Pulled Pork Sandwich was the item that stood out that day-pulled pork was smoked perfectly and smothered with a perfect amount of their BBQ sauce and one of their famous onion rings is in the sandwich also topped with BBQ sauce. The bun they use was so soft and meshed perfectly with the soft tasty bite of the pulled pork. 9.4/10 I really do love all of my visits to Urban Roots as every visit has been positive-I've recommended this place to many of my friends who visit from out of town for a high quality yet casual dining experience & if that isn't enough of a recommendation, the day I visited was my actual birthday and this was the place I choose to celebrate-I love this place that much.
