Let me tell you about my FAVORITE salad! The western bbq steak salad is one of my favorite salads EVER! I always get the salad and the urban fries. The only reason i don't give 5 stars is because the size of the salad varies on the person making it. I've had amazing big ones like the one in the photo but I've also had sloppy ones that are lacking in toppings and smaller in size. They always taste good but the consistency in size can change. This Jack's is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes I have no issue and it's perfect! But more often than not, there's an issue. I hate to write a bad review but this has happened at least 5 or 6 times now. I get the same salad every time and about half the time one of the toppings is missing. I ordered through Postmates today. We are only allowed 6 toppings and they didn't put any egg at all (which happens to be my favorite part :/ ) so I only got 5. not only was there no egg and a pretty big lack of all the rest of the ingredients, but the dark meat turkey I paid $4 extra for was practically inedible. It was either overcooked or old, it was rock hard and I had to pick it all out. I'm close to Jack's but love Postmates for its convenience and I tend to stop ordering from places if they can't consistently get it right if I'm not there to monitor them making my salad. read more

So I got in my car and went to Jacks to get my salmon so why did the guy with the earrings in both ears give me the smallest burnt piece he could find. I'd been wanting to come here for a while and it did not disappoint! They offer ample variety of salads, sandwiches, and plates with a great mix of protein options, veggies, and sides with a twist! My salad was actually one of my favorites I've ever had at a restaurant! The corn tasted freshly grilled, the achiote chicken was something different from anything I'd had before and was super juicy and flavorful, and the roasted chickpeas were so delicious! The roasted jalapeño dressing was a tad spicy and such a great complement to the chicken I love that I can come here and try a ton of different variations of veggies, potatoes, sides, etc and still have plenty of healthy options! They also have delicious sandwiches and a build your own sandwich option. Count on them for great sides like their macaroni and cheese, fries, etc. They also have some baked goods like giant cookies but save yourself from dessert and walk over to Devines on the next street for gelato nirvana. This place used to be my go-to when in college for a healthy meal, usually a big salad full of toppings. I ordered a create your own salad to go and paid nearly $15 without adding any protein. I was OK to pay this given I enjoy eating healthy and have enjoyed Jack's portion sizes in the past. But, I wont be going back. The price for the salad I got was honestly a disgrace. I was so disappointed and will be taking my money elsewhere next time. Not worth the price anymore - they were skimpy on my toppings but give you two jugs of dressing when you only need maybe half?? THE SIT-REP I have always loved JACK'S URBAN EATS because they make some of the best meat-carved sandwiches - Steak or Chicken sandwiches, all made to order. But of late, I have been making "feinted attempts" to eat better and Jack's has some ABSOLUTELY AMAZING SALADS! STEAK SALAD = NOT AN OXYMORON HERE Steak salad and a particularly spicy buffalo chicken salad if you request it. So when my "lovely former spouse" (she pays me to say that) blitzed in from the North Carolina Reich this past weekend, she called me and said she wanted some "face time". (Actually, it was a fun time catching up). THE FARE She's become a vegetarian (good for her), whereas I still consume the flesh of helpless domestic livestock on occasion. Jack's has a very clean, compartimentalized food preparation environment that permits the wonderful creation of completely vegetarian selections (with utensils and items that do not come into contact with meat), such as their huge salads and a delicious grilled PORTABELLO MUSHROOM SANDWICH that we shared along with a meatless CAESAR SALAD. In the past, I have gotten the aforementioned steak (almost a decent tri-tip like cut if you ask me) sald, and also chicken added to my Caesar Salads and have also gotten their SPICY BUFFALO CHICKEN SALAD (which is my fave salad). But previous trips to Jack's I have also gotten the CARVED TURKEY SANDWICH which is absolutely delicious when served with sandwich trimmings that make you feel like you are celebrating Thanksgiving any time of the year. We had dinner last night at Jacks and it was better than I expected, so here's the update: The regular tri-tip sandwich and chicken BBQ sandwich were very good. Both had good portions and were fairly juicy and flavorful. The pickle wedges were big and crispy, I loved the pepperoncinis, the service was fine, a medium wait in line, but then the food was brought to us in a few minutes. We had a macaroni side - it was bland, but a little salt and a little more pepper made it taste great. My only complaint was that the bill was too high for a good value meal from a counter style restaurant - $25 for a couple sandwiches, one side, a black-cherry soda and a beer seemed a bit much. Also I noticed that the outdoor tables were bolted down - so a group larger than four couldn't sit together, except at the one or two tables that will seat six or squeeze in eight. I get why they bolt them down, but maybe they should figure out a better situation for groups. For the same type of fare I still prefer Pluto's at Arden, but Jack's is a good place on the grid for a quick tasty meal at an okay price. read more

Kind of an interesting cafeteria style operation they have going here. Set in a borough of Sac-town at the corner lies Jack's Urban. They form one line and put together your food once you order. Given the length of the line, it went through faster than I expected. Dishes that take longer to prepare are brought to your table. Ate the Certified Angus Tri-Tip plate. Came with mash potatoes & seasoned vegetables (green beans). I had never heard of pesto mashed taters prior to coming here. The plate tasted like a home-cooked meal.The mash and vegetables were the perfect complement to this dish. The tri-tip alone was A-okay. But pouring the chipotle-mango sauce really elevated the meat. That sauce is bottle-worthy. Coming here during the lunch rush and was pleased to find ample seating. I think the number of takeout orders contributed to that. The group I was with split the Urban fries. Seeing a presence of chili flakes in fries was certainly a first. The blue cheese was a good balance to the mild heat from the chili. I didn't detect the chili oil but guess it binded the chili flakes together. It's worth a try. read more

Had a great salad for $8.50 last night. You have a choice of spinach, mixed greens, or romaine plus a selection of six toppings, with an assortment of dressings to add to your salad. The magic for this salad is that it is tossed in a bowl until everything is coated with dressing and mixed up. I also had a tomato bisque soup - a little sweet, but still good. The soup added another 4.50 to my bill, for a total of $14.07. Not bad for this day and age of eateries charging thru the room for a simple meal. I have been to most of Jacks Urban Eats and would recommend them to anybody. Be careful of over ordering the sides, etc. they add large price points to your total cost. read more

I really think I was giving this place too much credit because I crave their urban fries. I am bummed and turned off by the salad I got. It was 3-4pm on a Saturday. We found parking immediately on the street. Thank goodness they have good AC here too. There was a line, but it wasn't as long. So here's how to order, you wait in line and figure out what you're going to get. Then the employee writes down your order, example: I ordered the Lemon Chicken & Chicken tenders and fries. -that employee hands you a copy of the slip & you continue on your way to the cashier. That cashier tells you if you have any sides, or would want a side (mines came with 2 sides): So I told her I wanted mash potatoes with gravy and the lemon asparagus. She also ask if you want anything to drink. Then they'll ask for here or Togo. You pay, she hands you the drinks & a number to put on the table. Trust me I didn't know how to order the first time, I was so lost and confused. The food didn't take long, maybe 8-10 mins! & lemme tell you about the food. It's was GOOOD, and the sides they are not skimpy with. Even the barbecue sauce was good! It was $26 well spent. If you eat for there, then there is a place where you grab your own utensils, napkins, and ketchup! The place was nice & clean also. Let me emphasize this location is way better than Arden's! Extremely disappointed. I have been going to Jacks for at least 15 years. So I know what to expect and I didn't get that at all. I ordered a "side" of Tri-tip and a "side" of Mac n cheese. First I am not sure why I keep ordering the Mac n Cheese. I am never happy with it. It totally lacks flavor and I even salt and pepper it! Typically when I order a "side" of tri-tip they give me a regular size portion on a plate. This time somebody assumed I wanted just a small piece cut up into child size pieces! I am past 60 and do not look like a child! I was so disappointed that I will not be returning any longer as the food has gone downhill anyway and not worth my drive or money. They messed up when they stopped creating the food in front of us as we watched what they gave us. They still have a good clientele because it is in a great location, but the food is no longer worth it. I am always disappointed when I visit a Jack's location. DECOR: Always super cute. I love the hipster vibe this place gives off. This particular location is located in a very cute part of Sacramento. FOOD: SMH. Literally everything I get here I hate. All their salads sound yummy but I end up not liking what I get. On my recent visit I tried the Santa Fe Chicken salad. Hated that so then they brought me the Western BBQ Steak salad. Beware this salad is drenched in BBQ sauce...hated that too. So in the end I nibbled my fiances urban fries which is the only thing I actually like at this place. SERVICE: The service here was really great. As I mentioned I did not like anything I ordered. They actually let me try two different things then when I did not like either of them they gave me my money back. All three stars I gave them are based on their customer service. OVERALL, since they gave me such great customer service and for someone reason everyone but me loves this place I am going to try it again. on 9/14/2024 i order my food to go. i waited a good amount of time. which i understand they are busy. when i got my food. my food in the back was just all messed up. food was on its side in a clam shell. when i get to my office to open my food. Jack's and I have great history together. Wifey and I used to eat at Jack's before we became wifeys...I'd look forward to driving out to sac just to get my hands on a tri tip sandwich. Awesome stuff. Similar to pluto's? Yes...but better. The tri tip is always cooked perfectly...the bread is soft and toasted...I love the urban fries and the sides they offer. Urban fries are my idea of perfect fries...garlic, blue cheese, and chili sauce. Delish!!! Mashed potatoes with the skin on, broccoli with cheese, Mac n cheese...you name it. They're all good.
